The NHS is shortsighted, they have lots of HCA’s that they can train to become Nurses but they’ll be setting conditions up and down, your visa this your vis that, imagine being eligible for study sponsorship under the NHS only after you’ve live in the UK for 3 years, but they are comfortable going to other countries to pull out their Nurses when there’s loads of people on ground that they could train for this roles.

People stay in jobs because of good remuneration, if they pay peanuts the workforce will just drain away to better countries. Thanks Nanelle 😊

Good luck to them with that, they tried to ditch the foreign in the past, but failed woefully. As far as nurses are concerned, their indigenous populace would be engaging those revolving doors within 5 years of being in the institution.

As an international nurse I find it very offensive when people make the argument that they are taking resources from other countries..... Do you think I don't want better for myself why do you think I would want to stay in a country that doesn't appreciate my skills, the salaries suck, lack many resources and in some cases nurses are treated like crap in their home country......... people are leaving their home countries for a better standard of life and no one should be allowed to dictate that

This is really concerning, as the NHS relies heavily on foreign workers to fill critical roles. In fact, according to the BBC, 34% of doctors joining the NHS last year came from overseas. I'm also worried that this is just another example of the government using someone's knowledge and then kicking them out. Brexit is a good example of this and how they have started treating central and Eastern Europeans.

Increase spaces? When I went uni we started with 200 students and completed with nearly 100. Once people see what the nhs is they leave. International recruitment is here to stay. Else, expect a lower quality of nursing. Finding an English nurse is like playing Where's Wally. It is not a great employer. Increasing technology to reduce the need for human resources... aaaah certainly.

    2) how long it takes to collect passports/visas after submission?

Not fair at all. I am planning to study in Eastern Europe due to lower tuition fees for medical school. I am a British citizen. They make the UK medical schools, dental school, pharmacy courses and nursing in the UK. Very inaccessible to locals and less appealing due to pay and working conditions. Most of these UK doctors then are recruited by posts in Australia instead or quit or drop out. Internationals have saved our NHS if we restrict the number of staff being recruited internationally so suddenly before fixing the issue of recruiting our local workforce then best believe this will worsen the NHS

I have gone through the comments and most people are asking about increase in pay. This is what l keep saying that so far as the NH S is free, it will be difficult , where will that extra money come from. Another thing they don’t take into consideration is how much waste there is such as medication wastage ( the NHS loose millions on medications that are thrown away such as patients on repeat prescriptions and end up hoarding them and when they pass away their relatives sends them to the pharmacy department which is then destroyed) patients being discharged especially to care homes with hospital gowns, blankets. Pillows disappearing, in fact the list is endless

That plan is a dream for the government and won't ever happen. International nurses are what's keeping NHS alive but currently they are not training them well to adapt to the UK system. They just want to fill the vacancy but quality of care has gone worst. Not good for new nurses and patients. Also international nurses are fast moving to UAE, Australia and USA. Lastly, the pay is peanuts.

90% of nurses and midwives are from Pakistan, india and africa bec british pays lower but it is far better miney for them. Now my sister in law is doing her special teaining and course in Pakistan and she will be soon moving to Uk to work as a nurse. It shocks me. Why cant Uk pay good salary and british people will study instead overcrowding Uk which already is overcrowded, with both skilled and unskilled migrants. Uk cant bear any immigrant and do3snt matter skilled or unskilled. I am now planning to move back to Norway with my kids as soon as i can.
