In Kansas,US a cna will have 16 to 18 patients per cna. Night shift will have 20 to 25 residents for the night .the company is only after money. If state is coming to inspect there will be extra help everywhere. The office will all come out serving food and answering call lights
I know of terrible nursing home care,I work at home and did my best because I followed State regulation I was calling miss State, and one of my family members was nonverbal and left to suffer and when she was almost to die she had the worst bedsores, and she was almost to die when she was removed from the rehab and nursing home and never recover when she went to the hospital she had bedsores and she got sepsis and other complications and socome to her death all because of lack of care, I will not put any one in a understaff nursing facility it's best to leave the home, most of those places the workers only come to work to get money to pay their bills they don't care about the people who caused them to have a job RIP my dearest auntie you will be always, love for you caring heart 💜❤️☮️🙏🏽
Your videos are always insightful. Key lessons for me; never accept a job when patient to nurse ratio is unacceptable don’t play the saviour and the nice person. Additionally when I see a poor condition of a patient care do something about intervention is key, don’t just document and not do nothing. Never trust your colleagues thinking they would stand up for you when you in trouble. Thank you keep on enlightening your viewers.
I once booked for an agency shift for night and discovered I would be the only nurse on shift with 38 residents I cancelled immediately despite the agent trying to persuade me and increasing the pay , I told him that amount will not sort me out if I loss my pin ……
That is so true when the Dept of Health Inspectors come in to do the survey everyone will do the job But as soon they leave it’s a different story. How can a CNA give 18/20/25 residents care that’s means someone will be in their mess for 24 hours, someone will be fed, someone will be given water for dehydration someone will not be able to asked for help they should send all of them to jail period
Thank you for this video, the message in the video applies too everyone working in health Care sector even housekeeper, security and kitchen staff etc. You can't be too careful indeed.
Am not surprised because I went to a rehabilitation center to work for a patient privately and they were 17 patients to one nurse and 2 CNA so you would be calling a nurse for hours and no one came😭
Our Senior Carer Keeps prompting me to always keep doing things right listening about incidences from you today makes me wanna strictly adhere to guidelines. God bless you Nanelle
Working in a nursing home is one of the most challenging ever. The resident to patient ratio is ridiculous.. imagine Working where the ratio is 20 resident to one carer.Sad on the resident more than anyone else
@g8ful4ever93 it's ridiculous. I work in a care home on the over night shift and can attest. They preach quality care but how can that be when ratio to carer is that amount. Burn out is an understatement. Forty resident resident to two carer is horrible.
Nanelle, you’ve come very far. I still remember when you said on your channel that you were going to put in more work and be consistent with your content. Look how far you’ve come. I’m proud of you.
I was on a night shift with a senior carer and other carers one night and one of my residents was quite poorly. He was communicating normally, trying to prove he’s fine, still enjoying his wine but I could see clearly that he’s not well. I quickly did my OBS and his temperature was extremely low, heart rate high. Provided him with blankets, warm drinks and a warm teddy to keep in his bed warm but it still didn’t come up. I rang the paramedics who came just before I finished my shift and guess what the senior carer asked me, “is it that serious to ring the paramedics, he’s absolutely fine”. I said to her, I’d rather get someone out to see him than to leave him alone. I was off shift for a couple of nights, came back and heard from handover that he passed on the toilet 😮. I instantly went cold😢. I kept asking myself so many questions. I always say nursing is very rewarding but a great trial.
I always like to listen to your videos because I always learn new things that are very helpful to me especially in my clinical pratice as a medical student. Thank you so much. Keep it up!
I use to work in the NHS at one training the guy told us whatever you do always cover yourselves first inform the person in charge and record everything you do and I always remember that.
Great hook! The editing is top-notch. The background music is perfect for the content. Try not to let your gadgets block the entire screen. Also, a subtitle will help you reach an audience that finds the Ghanaian accent challenging.
Thanks for this video, your videos are just top notch, thanks for the pieces of advice, it keeps us as healthcare workers on our toes. Lesson; over react than under react and always leave a trail.
This is NOT the only nursing home that should be investigated. State needs to be investigated because they allow a lot of these nursing homes to pass inspections because they want to keep them open. Shut them all down and hire people who wants to work more than for a dollar there is no compassion
This is an excellent video! You have saved lives and jobs with this! Nanelle, you should be in Management, even Risk Management for Healthcare!! Such valid points raised!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 🎉🎉🎉
They were arrested because the UK / Europe has to maintain standards, unlike in the third world where gross negligence is common. Nursing is a calling, there is no reason to mistreat patients when you are being paid.
Third world? Wow...go to nursing homes in what you call UK/ europe and even USA and see what is going on there before you come and make comments. You will be very surprised.
Thank you so much Nanella. I have been following all your videos and I have learnt a lot from you as a carer. Your videos have saved me countless times. Thank you again.
I work in a nursing home one night I got 8 patients for the night for the whole night I was like I am on a tracking field in the morning my eyes were swollen I never work back in another nursing home again
I have said this before, the government needs to do something about nursing home staffing ratio. For e.g All of the suggestion she made about managing wounds sounds good but nobody can consistently accomplish this due to the work load. I would never work in a nursing home.
God bless you for this video. I believe that extra duty of care must be observed by everyone no matter what occupation you're in. It's scary to work and then end up in jail based on someone else's errors.
Thank you so much for this video, from what i learnt from this video, now i understand somethings. I dont know what the normal ratio of staff should be but i knw of someone where on a floor with 18residents who all needs help, there are only 2 of them as carers. One must always make research so you are always informed o
May God save us from such situations 🙏. See how their daily bread landed them in custody 😢. May our quest for a better life not put us in trouble in Jesus Christ mighty name, Amen 🙏. Sometimes even if one is careful, you can’t be careful enough. It’s to always pray for God to help you to always do the right thing because trust me, nobody knows it all.
Genuinely, you are a target when you are a good worker. I just relocated to a 😢different state Shocking, the care there is very poor. You can’t even find face towels to wash the residents. From the state I had moved from it’s a must. I couldn’t help it, I added my two scents. I told the floor manager, you guys are in the 19th century. She was shocked. The state is to blame here, if the state is controlling everything.
Wow 😯 18 employees.. all I can say is for healthcare staff to be careful and sincere everyday in work and document things to cover yourself. Like Nanelle said it's better to overreact than underreact. I work in a Nursing Home and I can confirm that the tiniest thing can put anyone in trouble, problem is we tend to get lost in the routine of things. Elder abuse, Restraint issues, safeguarding.. the tiniest error in these and more could land one in trouble.. and it is always their word against yours EXCEPT you have documented proof. Stay Safe and be Careful.
Pls pls check on ur elderly family member even if u go for 30 mins. Always change the day or time that u visit, it will keep the workers on their toes!
There was a nurse that was stabbed by a patient in a hospital in England. She is 50 and the patient is 37. This incident happened at 11.30on on Saturday.
What happened in that case?? Some residents or patients are very challenging and threatening even with capacity...what do you do?? You resort to behaviour chart?? For how long?
I tasted such at a nursing home where I went to agency shift. 4 nurses and manager, we were arrested and bailed but never to work for 3months till investigation finishes . I was dumbfounded, but God came through for me ! We were referred to the NMC but NMC didn’t conclude the investigation as they didn’t see any reason to continue due to no evidence. I can’t wish that to any one . I love the NHS. We are acquitted after 2months
One of the reasons why you don’t only go into NURSING for the money, because no amount of it will be enough for the work you do, but for the love of caring for the sick.
I think we have to reevaluate nursing homes. They are no longer facilities for the elderly and mostly stable patients. It's starting to look like mini hospitals. Some of the residents look like they should of never been discharged from the hospital. They need to change the nurse patient ratio.
My dear, i really applaud 👏 you and your fellow nurses who are working in these nursing homes. I'm not in any way to put myself in you guys shoes, but can imagine how tough and challenging it's for you guys dealing with people, especially an elderly 🤦🤦🤦🤦. I salute 🫡 you guys
Hi I do hope the Dns an nursing supervisor an manager was arrested also 😮because they are the head of the facility many of those names mention do not care for the unit to cover with nursing assistance and they are that ones that carry the huge work load especially the day staff
The work is hard however, people are not staying on the job they' come for orrantion and before the day is finish they go home and complain job is too hard yes its a hard job and short staff makes it worse therefore you have to love what you do and want to do it to stay in it
14:48 aways try to call the police, when its home health. Find a reason to call them. At least they will witness that the patient is the one asking you to leave. Or call paramedics and tell them she appears unwell but is refusing your assessment and you'd like her taken to the hospital 😂😂😂. It's extreme but you get them to witness since agency is not answering. Tell them nobody else is at home with the patient 😊😊😊. If you manage to stay full shift, YOU BETTER NOT ACCEPT THAT PATIENT AGAIN unless you want to be in a situation where you will get wrongly accused of something
The DON was charged for a reason. She falsified documentation. That patient should have been sent to the hospital. She became and RN in 2019. Terrible care. Never make the excuse that you cannot see each patient. You should know who in your facility needs to be watched more carefully.
The owners of the facility are responsible for not providing adequate staffing or care. If the staff patient ratio is too low, the remaining staff are forced to do the best they can.
I tried nursing assistant work 42 years ago and lasted only 4 hours and quit. That line of work has to be a calling. It's something else.
4 hours 😂😂😂
@@NanelleGriselda😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂
Yep, and those senior folks are not for the faint, they’re so difficult to deal with too.
😂 works 4 years I ended quits

This statement is totally true for most nursing homes
I know of terrible nursing home care,I work at home and did my best because I followed State regulation I was calling miss State, and one of my family members was nonverbal and left to suffer and when she was almost to die she had the worst bedsores, and she was almost to die when she was removed from the rehab and nursing home and never recover when she went to the hospital she had bedsores and she got sepsis and other complications and socome to her death all because of lack of care, I will not put any one in a understaff nursing facility it's best to leave the home, most of those places the workers only come to work to get money to pay their bills they don't care about the people who caused them to have a job

True, I went to clinical a nurse had 30 clients by herself that much.
sounds like the facility should be reported
That is so true when the Dept of Health Inspectors come in to do the survey everyone will do the job But as soon they leave it’s a different story. Thank you for opening my eyes. Caregiver from Nigeria
Most of the CNAs here in the U.S. that I see these days are from different parts of Africa. Seems mostly are Nigerian
Thank you for this video, the message in the video applies too everyone working in health Care sector even housekeeper, security and kitchen staff etc. You can't be too careful indeed.
You are doing a great job Nanelle. This our job is just something else. GOD HELP US ALL. This is an eye opener

Working in a nursing home is one of the most challenging ever. The resident to patient ratio is ridiculous.. imagine Working where the ratio is 20 resident to one carer.Sad on the resident more than anyone else
I discovered that too. The burn out it creates in staff is something I had never experienced anywhere else. I had to leave very quickly.
@g8ful4ever93 it's ridiculous. I work in a care home on the over night shift and can attest. They preach quality care but how can that be when ratio to carer is that amount. Burn out is an understatement. Forty resident resident to two carer is horrible.

I really learnt a lot! I watch till the end!
Thanks for sharing Nanelle ❤

Excellent video. Should be shown in every orientation class.
I think the problem is in nursing homes there is no resident Dr to check on these patients so what are the health workers to do.
Thank you very much for this video i have learned a lot from you God bless you
This is so sad. Larrysha please read. . This happened in a Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Colonial Heights Virginia.
