Couldn't agree more! I loved the PF 1 size and was disappointed they moved away from it. And that's why I choose not to upgrade to the P9F2. Great content as always Shane!
I'm thinking you had the Surface Duo before too? I love my Duo but I think it's us Duo users who have the affinity to the passport size.
Companies hate Innovation apparently
@96bulls2k Yes I did but even more than that, the PF1 (to Shane's points) was a form factor they had to themselves that many thought was perfect. To change it just mimic the OnePlus Open size was just disappointing.
I agree. I have updated from the Pixel Fold to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. I preferred the old form factor.
I'm right there with you on the form factor. Pixel Fold is a better looking phone too.
The Pixel 9Pro Fold doesn't upgrade enough to warrant an upgrade for me unfortunately.
@@JediSteele I allow that not everyone feels compelled to upgrade every year. The form factor not withstanding, has updated it changed virtually everything. It doesn't get hot. Spec not withstanding, the camera is Carly improved. Screen brightness is greatly improved. Though individual calls on AI may not Garner great attention, what does is the continued and improved integration of AI. I simple talk to my phone far more. I'm a horrible photographer. But in the last 3 weeks I have produced jaw dropping photos. Can't convince me it's not worth it. You can convince me it is expensive. If Price is a factor, you'll get no arguments from me. Just make sure you say that... Because 'not worth the upgrade' just isn't accurate
Same here Shane. I prefer the form factor of the pixel fold. Not sure I will advance to the next one. Maybe their next fold will be shorter/wider?? One can hope! 🤞
I do miss the "uniqueness" of the PF1. It would've been really cool to see that aspect ratio with this design/improvements. I get that what they went with was more practical in terms of apps and stuff like that. But man that first Pixel Fold was so different and fun
I follow you since Surface Duo times. Loved always the passport format, perfect Multitasking.
Maybe our feedback will bring this format back 😊
OG Pixel Fold owner since launch day... Ive been battling the notion of upgrading.
But after seeing how big it is IRL in comparison to other phones - i just cant justify it.
The OG form factor is king. Amazong one hand device that folds into an actual tablet.
Your thoughts mirror mine exactly. I just printed out my return forms for the Pro Fold. I ordered an S 24 ultra to try out. I also have a Pixel 9 Pro XL but I’m getting some weird eye strain when I use it.
I love the form factor of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but prefer the camera design of the original Pixel Fold. To each their own. 😀
Been waiting for this ❤️
In my opinion P9PF is amazing. Switched from z fold 6 and don't regret it. Camera and batter life are better than the Z fold 6.
I do love my Pixel Fold too now over a year. I love all the new software running Android 15 beta.
@@bad65dad how is it ? Major changes?
I don't miss the original Pixel Fold...because I returned the P9PF after two days in my possession. I'm thinking I will use the original Pixel Fold until it's tapped out...
I am keeping my OG pixel and using it as a secondary work phone 📱, and I am daily driving a Fold 6, this combo has been unbeatable, I have the best of two worlds, and believe or not, there is days that I put my main sim on the OG as I love the form factor.
Which u recommend getting the Z fold 6 over the pixel fold?
@@bigdrews4360 yes, overall it's a more complete package, not to mention a smaller phone and that alone to me is very important, cameras are consistent and not as bad as many TH-camrs claim them to be.
For me like my pixel fold 1 ❤
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, to me, seems like buying an uglier OnePlus Open, with a worse screen, with a wider and deeper crease, with bigger bezels, for a much higher price, one year delayed.
It's got the best screen on foldables currently in terms of colour, readability, brightness and accuracy. What? Also the software optimisation works great with the chip. The crease is barely noticeable when looking at it, too. Oh and the bezels are the same as the Honor Magic V3 so...Not really an issue bar maybe the front screen? Maybe? I agree the price is too high though.
I've felt the same way, since first seeing it. It looks like a worse open to me. It's not as refined, visually, to my eye.
For me, the most important thing is multitasking, though. I use 3 apps at the same time regularly for various reasons and for an 1800 dollar second gen foldable only being able to do split screen, is actually ridiculous. I disagree with Shane so much on this. 😂 The fact that it costs as much as the top end options and doesn't have at least parity with its competitors is crazy. I don't care if most people only need 2 apps split screen. It can't do what its competitors can and it costs as much or more! The software Google is offering just doesn't mean as much to me, personally, as open canvas or hell, even one ui. I personally think the way Samsung handles 3 apps doesn't make sense because 2 are basically unusable, they're so squished. Open canvas makes way more sense on a traditional foldable setup. If you had a tri-fold with an actual tablet sized screen, then it wouldn't matter as much.
Sure, if you leave out the good stuff lol.
Lots to like about the Open. Faster charging, Open Canvas, floating windows, less visible crease..
Besides floating windows and Canvas, Pixel takes software in every conceivable way for me. Assistant typing, Now Playing, Grammar Check, secure Face Unlock, Circle to Search, Magic Editor, Call Screening, etc, etc. Heck, general look and feel of the UI. Chinese ROMs always feel so sterilized to me. Pixels feel homey. Camera is more consistent, battery life has been a wash, Qi is nice to get back, Open screens should be bright, but they just aren't. (Z Fold 6 is brightest, which is weird lol).
At the end of the day, both phones are tremendous. I just don't think it's helpful to strawman things like this. Things are a lot more nuanced than that.
@@scaryifliteral I'll grant you "software" is the only front where the Pixel has something better to offer than the Open. However, it's mixed as the Open has the Canvas feature and plenty of other nice aspects to its software. So it's not a clear win for the Pixel in my opinion. So no, I just disagree with you. It's not even a straw man argument, what I wrote are factual aspects that I care about. Maybe to you these aspects don't weigh as heavy, and that's fine, to each their own.
I had a fold 3, 4, and 5 before this pixel 9 pro fold. Know what though? I'm not asking if I'm missing any of them. What I miss is the surface duo line. Every damn day I miss those things.
I agree that the original Pixel Fold looks like a better device. If they had kept that footprint then I would have been tempted to buy the 9 Pro Fold instead of buying the ZFold6.
I sold my 9 Pro fold. Loved the OG fold, just couldn’t get on with the 9PF
i have to agree i do like the short more compact version rather than the taller model. for me personally i think phones are getting to long. to have a smaller phone that folds out would be great.
Man, this video caught my attention so quickly lol. I got the 9 fold (since returned and got the 9 XL) because I just couldn't get over the thin front screen as I use the front screen 95% of the time and I missed the original width of the original.
I think google had the chance to keep that thickness and missed the mark to be different.
It seems to me that Google followed what the others were doing size wise rather than staying with what they had. Too bad they didn't keep the same form factor with updated and more features.
Yeah I agree with this take. I had my sim in my original fold yesterday and the difference is just so obvious. The only thing I don't like is how certain apps aren't rotating in landscape but I think they will fix that.
I mainly open my fold for gaming video consumption and browsing desktop sites on the web , all stuff that naturally works better in landscape. using a portrait opening phone. I find that I'd have to rotate my screen 90° essentially every time that I open it, so I don't see myself moving from the fold 1 anytime in the foreseeable future
On the contrary I prefer browsing the web in portrait mode and I was rotating my original pixel fold 90% of the time so I significantly prefer the new form factor as I can just open the phone and use it for most content.
Both the OG Pixel Fold, and the zFold6, are at the extremes of portrait or landscape viewing. The best overall view will be the choice in between, which has already been answered with the OnePlus Open.
Don't miss my pf1 at all after trading it in. I much prefer the form factor of the p9pf and I always hated how heavy the pf1 was and how it wouldn't fold flat
If the fold 1 had a better battery, I would have totally kept it. The passport design was amazing. with that said I am really loving the pixel 9 pro.
I've had the Z Fold 4 and 5. I never had the pleasure of the PF1. I did get the P9PF and I'm loving it. I'm enjoying this phone way more. I do miss the Secure Folder tho. I split screen two pokemon go accounts and it worked flawlessly
I suggest that Google should make another pixel fold in the same phone factor passport size with the use of style on both sides, 5 multi taysking and flowing windows capability
I wished they kept the same formfactor. I may still buy one to put Pixel Experience custom OS on it once the support is done.
Despite the few nitpicks I have about my Fold, the form factor makes a lot of sense. It's unfortunate Google decided to imitate One Plus rather than stick with a refined version of the original form factor. Most all companies do it though...
i have the original pixel fold and not planning to upgrade anytime soon.. i just like the size of the original and thats why i ditched my fold 2
hi shane. as usual, gr8 video. keep 'em coming 👏🏾👏🏾
I bought the original pixel fold at launch. and I absolutely loved the form factor.
weight aside, it was brilliant. having said that, quickly got used to it.
unfortunately, I couldn't justify shelling out another £1700 for the P9 fold. but managed to get a good deal on a P9 pro.
to be honest, I'm not too keen on the size. I feel it's too slim & tall. I know it's generally the same size as the iphone & samsung, but I think that was the appeal of the pixel fold's outer screen.
I'd love it if, next year, Google would change the form-factor back to the original fold.
I was so hopeful that Fold 2 kinda fix some of the gripes I had with the first fold and it's literally worse at all the things I was hoping it would address 😭
I love my 9 Pro Fold. Never tried the Fold 1. The only thing I don't like about mine is the inner screen aspect ratio. Which leaves a ton of empty space when watching full screen video.
The pixel fold form factor is excellent. I wish there is a g4 chip inside, reduced weight and 9 pro fold hinge
the bright screen is the biggest go for me, I think the hinge is also worse it might open flat but has less angles throughout the hinge compared to the 1st
Love the pictures the 9 pro fold takes… the videos? Not so much. Still relying on an iPhone to take videos
What about oneplus open vs pro 9 fold which one u prefer

The bottom line is that if you get the 9ProFold, your getting a handicapped phone:
** "9to5Google" states the 9ProFold to have the SLOWEST Charging speed.
**Also, The latest tests shows the 9ProFold's battery life as the WORST:
th-cam.com/video/7n_ZwLsSsfU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_jXBn6b_ks5U2Cc1
**It is also the HEAVIEST foldable out.
**The 9ProFold's inner screens are TOUCHING, due to loose screen flex.
** The 9ProFold runs the HOTTEST, and it Tensor G4 Processor is hotter and slower than last year's 8gen2 processor.
**According to the "JerryRigEverything" review, it was shown that the Google's design pushes the heat towards the inner screen, instead of the rear, so it's inner screen takes on heat.
** It also fails the "dust test", and the "bend test"!
**It also does NOT have stylus support, on such big screen.
**The 9ProFold Does NOT have multitasking beyond 2 apps(!).
So the 9ProFold clearly is NOT the best, or any better than any foldable out there, and not the biggest. Even the Vivo has a larger screen.
Google's 9Pro Fold is actually the WORST of all the new Foldables.
Add to that, Google's lockdown of the home screen with TWO permanent widgets that cannot be adjusted ("At a Glance" & "Google search bar"). As they want to control your search results & what you see.
If you're in the US market, there is no choice but the One Plus open, to get away from the monopoly of Samsung/Google, which the OnePlus Open best in every category.
There is a heavy Propaganda created by these two monopolies, to create the illusion that their "software" can make up the difference for their poor technology.
In reality, software is the EASIEST to replicate and make on any phone. The OnePlus Open already updated its software beyond what has been shown in past reviews.
Only those that know better, know the OnePlus Open is still the best viable option in the US, over the Google 9Pro Fold, or the zFold6:
**Both It's screens are higher resolution.
**It's thin and lighter than both making it most useful for one-handed use. **It's Crease is invisible compared to both the others.
**The battery superior and fastest charging.
** It's Expandable ram to 28GB RAM.
**It's 8gen2 processor is still superior to Google's latest Tensor G4 processor.
**It has Stylus support on BOTH screens.
** It's also having an IR Blaster remote.
** It's updated software UI is now as good as the Samsung, with more useful larger multitasking views, desktop(Dex) mode
**It's still having the best cameras.
**All at L0WeR price!
So yeah, The year old OnePlus Open is still the BEST, and will put the nail in the coffin once the OnePlus Open 2 comes out... 😮🥲
The ones calling the Pixel 9 pro fold haven't held and had one yet I've had mine for 3 days now the bezel doesn't bother me at all. And the screen looks better than my iPhone 15 I just switched from imo
I sold my original pixel fold I wanted to try something different and with better battery life and fast charging.and now I currently using the OnePlus open apex edition. The fast charging and battery life is fantastic compared to my pixel fold i used for the past 10 months but I do miss the form factor of the pixel fold.
oh and another nice, not so much a feature of the new fold is it fits in my trucks cup holder now lol
If they could have kept the form factor... but just made the bezels thinner... improved the (horrible) battery life... and made it lighter... the 2nd version (with the same form factor) would have been great. But oh well...
Totally agree. Now I'm even sadder that I traded mine in
Surface Duo 2 vs Pixel Fold 2 comparison when? 👀
I know people hate when you compare new and old things but I think it'd be fun to see how the idea of a folding/dual screen pocket devices have changed since the Duo 2
I'll think on that one.
maybe even SD 1/2 current state of the Pixel experience rom (duo-de on github) vs one of the folds?) @@scaryifliteral
Agree i miss my fold 1
I also loved the form factor of the og, especially the camera bump shape is much better looking than... uhhh... Why Google why
I'm okay to switch to regular form factor, but I don't think I can deal with the bump shape, everything else on the 9 fold is not bad at all
Maybe they'll go back. Maybe they were seeing which one got more attention or sold better and waiting on reviewers feedback. We can hope, right!?!
@@Tater1722 never loose hope 🙏
and since the thought is thinner, is better for some reason!!! we will never see an Spen built-in on a galaxy fold then the pixel wins hands down, do to stock android and support for the device, Chinese phones might be better in some ways but I don't get a phone for looks, it has to function
The P9PF wireless charging issues are driving me insane
This is not even close. Prefer the old format. Everything else is most definitely v2.. if you like the OnePlus, fine. If you like the zfold, fine. This is about pixel fold 1 vs pixel fold 2.
Do you think anyone will make this form factor again? Imagine if we got a refined oppo n2 with flagship cameras...ah the dream
Probably not
Still love my PF, and (mostly) the software. But why do you think that Google did not take the opportunity, AI aside, to improve the multitasking? Or is 2 open apps at any given time enough for the majority of people?
While I generally only ever use two apps, I would like to see them improve things too. I have heard that floating windows are in some way attached to the desktop mode redesign.
If we wanted a foldable to be a phone...... we'd get a phone...not a device that cn fold into a mini tablet...
Maybe on the Pixel 10 or X or whatever they choose to call it, 😂, Google will release a Fold A and a Pro Fold. And the Fold A will be the form factor of the original fold. 🤞
Thie was my question😂
I'm not upgrading my original fold
Which would you choose if you could only use one? Oneplus Open or P9 Pro Fold?
Pixel
You are asking a Pixel fan which phone he would prefer?😅😅😅😅😅
Hi Shane , thanks for the vids.
I have an option in a month to pick s24 ultra or z fold 6 for a really good price, I really want to try a fold phone? Is the z fold 6 good enough?
Between those two, I would pick the Fold. But that's just me.
So for me I removed the screen on the inner display on my Google pixel fold and I feel it start to open more flat and also it's not reflective as it used to be
What phone case is that on the 9 pro fold?
iirc, either thinborn or pitaka
Can't you just rotate the p9pf so it's in landscape? Sounds like that would solve your problems with the layout.
One, I don't want to have to rotate my phone every time I open it. Two, it is so close to square that it still doesn't really hit the tablet feel as well as the original.
@@scaryifliteral I have the og fold and I am constantly rotating my phone to get the view to be better for most applications. Even Instagram and reddit just look better in a letter format. I really only like the aspect ratio of the og fold when viewing media or when using two apps side by side. I think, since most apps are designed for a letter format, it makes more sense to have the aspect ratio in letter when you unfold it instead of landscape. When you need landscape, rotating a phone shouldn't be too difficult. I feel like I'd have to rotate the p9pf less in its native orientation but media will always look better in landscape which can be achieved by just rotating the device.
Phone apps look better, tablet apps looks worse, regardless of orientation because the screen is basically a square.
@@scaryifliteral yeah I'm not sure why they did that. Lol doesn't seem as usable, there's always a black bar on the screen somewhere
Can you tell me which ring grip you're using? I have a v2 thinborne case and an Anker ring grip, and when the grip is attached, the front screen turns on and off when the phone is moving around. I'm wondering if the anker magnet is too strong. Alternatively, I'm thinking the placement of the v2 magnet may be causing a problem. Any ideas?
It's from Pitaka. I think that issue is more to do with the placement than strength.
@@scaryifliteral Thanks! If it's the placement, that's a shame, as the "correct" placement for charging is the problem area for accessories.
Those that think either the 9ProFold, or OG Pixel Fold, or zFold6 is best, are just not well informed.
For those that are limited in selection, as the US market is, there is only one clear choice that is superior to all of these others and is not mentioned enough.
It is the OnePlus Open.
It literally answers the all the requests of both Samsung/Google customers and still is superior to the 9ProFold & zFold6.
There needs to be new comparison reviews to enlighten users that they are actually handicapped with Google/Samsung Folds.
I have all three and prefer the Pixel. It's okay to have a different opinion, it's really silly to say that anyone who doesn't agree with you isn't informed though.
@@scaryifliteral I will have to agree with your opinion, as the choice becomes a personal taste. The reason I suggested ppl are not informed is because I believe the 9ProFold is a handicapped phone:

This is why I think personal preference doesn't outweigh the facts. 🙃
@@Maxx134a I have tried all foldables except the new Huawei, and as much as I like particular hardware and software things about them I prefer OG pixel as well as Fold 6, to each their own. I like seeing your different opinion I just don't like when someone wants me to have the same one!
Here's the thing though, I don't care about most of this stuff lol. Personal preference also means what features matter to you. There are also several of these that are either not true in my experience or not true at all. I've got a minute, so I'll go through them.
** "9to5Google" states the 9ProFold to have the SLOWEST Charging speed.
4 watts slower than the Z Fold 6. Not a big deal.

Yep, I'm used to heavier phones, so I'm not bothered.
**It's inner screens are TOUCHING, due to loose screen flex.

In raw speed, yes
