That type of praise is learnt by heart: Praise to all; NEVER say a bad word. He would have said almost the same if LR had won. It's called "managerese" and driven by corporations. He's a great athlete but he is part of a syndicate called LRPP unlike Ineos who are ONE as a team and belong to a syndicate called Ineos. example: he talks about letting the "stars of the future come through and hang up his gloves" - it's just a corporate way of saying that HE is the current star and without HIM nothing would have been possible. Don't get me wrong: He's been brought up and trained like that as are all the youngsters nowadays. in it, it's all ego. INEOS own a team and have a great captain, a REAL captain in Ben Ainsly and he has coached (is coaching) a definite successor: Dylan Fletcher. That is what the difference in the team is, the rest is sailing skills which are up there, but just below Ben's. What is unfortunate is that him (and the other youngsters have no idea...) INSIDE: They are all saying - This is MY moment, I am the best, I will win - there is NO team Go watch junior tennis at yr local club. The young are yelling and punching the sky just like 25 year olds who are tennis superstars and are well and truly at the pinnacle of their sport. It's TV and what the public are fed and gobble up. He had a good run, but found better than him to bar his route.
Jimmy has always been a true sportsman in pressers and interviews but you can hear it in the live comms as well. He acknowledges mistakes without looking back and always picks up his teammates. He is gracious in defeat and not a braggart in victory. Great respect for you, Jimmy and whether you really are retiring I hope we get to hear from you on the shoreside going forward.!
Jimmy as a Kiwi I've been mighty impressed how you have conducted your self with the media and your humble views towards your opposition. It hasn't always been this gracious, A very nice style has shown through the interview s and you have been a pleasure to watch Thank you.
Theres another interview where he says in any sport you always want to play against the very best and the kiwis clearly in a lot of sports are the very best what a humbling thing to say about a rival.
Love ya work Jimmy, inspirational sportsman, loved watching how you the whole LRPP team have shown so much grit, spirit and amazing team work. Thanks for being such a legend in this sport, will miss not seeing you next time round
Well done Jimmy and Team Lunar Rossa for putting on some of the best racing ever seen in the Louis Vitton challenge series! Look forward to seeing you return in the next challenge! 🙏
It's a pity more sports don't follow this example. Total commitment and competitive instinct with respect and admiration for your opponents. Well said Jimmy and all the best for the future.
Thank you for providing such a fantastic display of sailing skill and keeping it such a tight wonderful display of match racing. Huge respect from an Ineos supporter.
Well done Jimmy. As a kiwi ETNZ ran you’ve always been such a fierce and respected competitor. Some bad luck this last week kept you from what you really wanted, but kudos for many years of amazing achievements and total respect and appreciation for the competition and sportsmanship. Well player fella and all the best for next phase
Sportsman in the best sense. So enjoyable to watch and hear the on water athletes and talent, and the off water talent. Wonderful spokespeople for their game.
Jimmy and Francesco are four eyes in one brain. Those regattas have been fun to see and learn. It´s impressive to listen them both aligning the next move. Jimmy, you´re an impressive sailor and here you show the impressive man and teammate behind, respect and all the best (hopefully in the AC.... even if you say today, that the younger are pushing).
As a kiwi I massively disliked this guy in 2013 when he broke our hearts beating us for the Americas Cup when he was skipper for team USA, but I have to say what a great and talented athlete, fierce competitor and classy guy he is, have a great retirement Jimmy, he will be remembered as a legend in the sport of sailing
I really thought Luna Rosa was going to win. The British have really upped their game. Ben has really matured and is finally sailing with consistency. If the Brits win I hope the next cup races will be in GB. That would be truly historic after 150+ years.
Well said jimmy very humble honest and enlightening ,look out for the next round this will be epic, some close racing coming up,let’s hope the kiwi upgrades have given them that extra advantage they will need it for sure
Mate you are a F##### legend you are one of the Greatest sailors on the planet and a credit to the sport I’m 60 years old and constantly tell people that young gun is my hero
Your a legend. At the end of the day the faster boat won you’ll be back probably in a different role. Best wishes for the future win loose or day you did your best.
When you look at the times, all the races that were close were only seconds apart, they had a couple of nose dives but for the most they raced nose to nose. Breakages on their boat shouldn’t have happened but their comeback 24 hr recovery ability was unequalled. They might have lost but they lost in style, the Italian Way 😎👍
I hated Jimmy when he beat us in 2013 in San Fran , only because he was cocky, but Deano did fold . But now, boy this guys is just such a legend! This guy is a mega class act , nothing but respect for him, its gonna be sad to see him go! Respeckt sir!!!!
Your a legend of the sport Jimmy sorry to see you go I’m a kiwi who was cheering for Italy I wanted to see you go out against ETNZ I hope to see you in a different role in the next AC
As a competitor he is your worst nightmare and the ultimate ice cool hard man having shown he can pull off the near impossible against team NZ some years ago never to be under estimated Once the gloves are off an extremely humble and intelligent guy who is a master at his craft and a guy you would love to have a couple of beers with Well done Jimmy and all the best for the future, deserves the ultimate respect as a great sporting icon
Jimmy, give it another winter. I think you'll be back out there. Look at ole man Ben Ainslie still going at it. You can come back in a few years and still be as strong as ever.
I’m sorry, Jimmy, I was really hoping you’d get another rematch but it just wasn’t in the cards. Looking forward to seeing you mentor SailGP Italy next season!
Why Hasn't "Jimmy Spithill" Been "KNIGHTED" & Been made a Knight,, by the kiws, Australia, Italy, America, Sweden, France., The Brits Gave a knithoodm to the British guy for some reason?????
Really well said Jimmy, you are a great sportsman and very generous in your praise of others.

We named our dog after this guy in 2013 and I always have some explaining to do at the vet about that middle name. Thanks Jimmy!🤩
This guy made the americas cup popular again in 2013 with that one line at the press conference. Respect from NZ

Jimmy your still the man … Luna Rosa remember you gave the pommies 2 race start and they only just got up ….. Viva Italia. … Go the Kiwis
Jimmy's got that "killer instinct" which all champions need. May be he'll return as the CEO of an Aussie challenger?
Amazing dude sad to see him go
I’ll miss Jimmy, great guy
I am saddened that this gentleman is leaving.
Good race
Jimmy your a man of great Character 👍🙏

Thank you Jimmy. It’s been fun. Except for that one instance 😂
You should be so proud, God bless
'Chapeau, mate!
Luna Rossa did bloody well. Just not quite bloody well enough well done anyway.
So Jimmy Spithill is an Italian ? Doug Ringholt Yarrawonga Victoria
He will "step away" from racing before he's pushed. I'm surprised the Italians have stuck with him for this long. No one else wants him.
What a well spoken and honorable man Jimmy is , and what am amazing career he has had
what an amazing guy!
Great guy
Class act!
Need to get him on the ineos chase boat next time round....
Only needs one word to describe Jimmy's response.......... Legend!
Jimmy and Brunni have thrashed the Brits to a fine edge. The Kiwis have their eyebrows up a bit.
You should retire on 22021. But well done Jimmy Spithill. Well done....All the best Jimmy. ❤❤❤❤

If he comes back to the Sydney-Hobart this year, he could break his own record!
@@zoepaulastrassfield2664 Shirley he will keep busy with something 👍
Jimmy has mellowed no as arrogant as he use to be
A few retiring Rugby Players should take note of how Jimmy handles himself,
Hes got nothing to be sad about he has won the cup with America i think he should go home and build a Australian boat ⛵ for the next cup race.
Yes your right build your own boat Aussie you have the sailors ask the Kiwis for help they will be willing to help you. ❤❤❤❤
Is that an Italian accent? 😂
So, you're retiring Jimmy? See ya later.
Thanks Jimmy, a true champion in every sense of the word.
Jimmy is everything of PURE CLASS . LUNA ROSSAA is also the team really great people . Sadly they seem to be the only ones .
