SOLVED! HOW TO FIX NOISY FOOTAGE from the Sony FX6 in Low Light

In the video, I share how I fixed an issue where the footage coming from my Sony FX6 camera was extremely noisy. I reveal the answer at the top of the video, and then I do some tests to see how Standard, S-Cinetone, and S-Log3 footage will look in low light. I also test out some phantom LUTS and share my feedback on how they look.

800 'base' ISO is where Sony have decided you get the best possible image balance between dynamic range and the usable noise floor in Slog3. So yes, the base ISO is 100% 800, cause Sony said it is. This is all a base ISO is. You know this from the fact it's locked in at 800 in Cine EI. Of course it will be less noisy if you rate it at 400, but you do so at the expense of 1 stop of highlight retention.

Yes!! Sony have always stated that the Fx-6 is NOT dual base iso but have indicated in the manual that its dual base ‘sensitive’. After digging a little further I discovered that the 12,800iso has an internal NR applied.
The FX-9 and Venice are the only true dual iso cameras, that is there’s no difference between these settings as far as noise is concerned. All other cameras in this line use some closely guarded NR technology to recreate what the 9 and Venice do.
Everything you’re saying is true but just to add s-log by its very nature has less data allocation to its lower end values so noise is a concern. For green screen s-cinetone is a great choice and will give you a cleaner image all round due to the way data is spread across the dynamic range and there’s no need for S-log as you don’t usually need highlight retention in a controlled studio environment.
BTW I also set my camera colour temp at 4,400k in mixed colour environments as it’s exactly half way between 3.2k and 5.6k allowing for lights to cool and warm up naturally.

EI 800 & 12,800
