I used to have an Austrian ozark in a, played it till the twanger broke, that was a decade ago.. So, recently I got one of these rainbows and I love it! Mine came loose in an envelope, though, lol!
I used to run a metal salvage business...we noticed that if a magnet sticks to the stainless, it will rust. I have a Glazyrin Alpha and a magnet does stick to all parts...I guess we'll have to use some oil still 🤷♀️ I really dig your video's!
The stainless used in Glazyrin is magnetic stainless as the harp frame has to be magnetic for Glazyrin metalworking machines to work. The frames don’t seem to rust, but the tongue will. The tongue is still a high carbon steel.
The wave, compass and lighthouse are the 'beginners models' of Glazyrin, the precision and tolerance of the parts are of lower quality, but despite that they are technically good. The Russians are the first a adapt Industrial precision in their Vargans.I also like the Models Sail and Frigate, which are small harps with big sound.. a kind of travel model as it were.Yes they are very good but all have the same metallic by-sound.If you want this kind of harp with a very good ground tone en good and clear reach in overtones, get the Batman by Hollnich, This one is not very expensive but has a very good reed, a step higher in quality then any Glazyrin!
Your videos are really informative and CERTAINLY appreciate your enthusiasm. You have a lot to teach my freind. I have a question. If it's ok. I have a few Jews harps. One a black fire DOROMB tuned in E, Bjorgulv Straum munnharpe in G, a Potkin Khomus in f and a Clayton Baily morning in a middle fange. Ive currently added the wave and sail vargen Jews harp. and a few others, about 14 harps You think these vargans are as loud as the black fire I have in E?
Many vargan are louder than blackfires, (which are fairly loud,) but not the wave or sail. Wave is a beginner vargan, and sail is made for melodic play, (where louder is counterproductive.). If you want vargan louder than blackfire, Glazyrin Magnum is really loud, as is all masko, Kniega miss are screaming loud. P.S. don’t ever get rid of your Straume as it is a killer open close harp, (and if you do let me know as I will pay top dollar for it.). Straume is on my list.
If you like this one, go get the 'star' from the same maker, that is a real powerhouse, and this one is more fluent, they make good addition to each other.also the 'sail' and 'frigate '-cheap- are good clear 'little big'jaw haprs frm Glazyrin.If you have these 3, you have a good all round set from this maker.
Good to know. Coincidentally I planned on ordering the, "Star," vargan tonight, and later in a week or two, "the Phantom." Will have to check out the frigate at a later date. After ordering 4 harps from Glazyrin I will be delving into some other makers and styles of harps.
Is this really Glazyrin's harp? Strange... Where is the brand? A stamp? Glazyrin's harps are easy to distinguish, each has an image of a hummingbird. Maybe not in 2016?

Some of glazyrin harps had the hummingbird starting in 2020 only with the skiff/scythian. A few others have it now as well
The price has certainly increased a lot.
