    that is a beautiful knife. and a beautiful sounding harp, I love my Glazyrin, I got a lighthouse, and I would love to get one of each harp in the whole line, that would be kind of a neat thing to have.

      Harps do tend to sell out fairly fast. We just got a restock of half of the Glazyrin varieties. Which harp are you looking for?

    The more I hear the Star, the better I like it.

  • @enfielddnepr
    @enfielddnepr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hi There!The potkin is indeed a nice beginners harp..mellow sound, it does everything more or less and is forgiving for mistakes, good value for money and it looks nice..If you want a good, melodious harp for such a price, the Glazyrin (yes, again) sail (higher) or frigate is a nice choice, the sail is quiete melodious, the frigate is a 'little big' harp. But all glazyrins have the same metallic-by-sound..The second brass harp you take at 2;38 sounds shrill, like the reed has too much play between the frame?I've had the Uranus and star together, sold the Uranus, the star is more powerfull, has more balls.I hope you are not dissapointed by the star..would feel a little guilty..My tip, take the star out in nature, find a nice spot and play it! loudly!

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy back at ya. I am not disappointed by the star. I like it better than the rainbow, but the two do feel very similar. I have one more Glazyrin coming in the next week, "The Phantom." in addition to a 3 blade khou xian. After that unboxing I should be done with the glazyrin's for a bit and will be moving on to another maker for a while. It is interesting that you say that my old P. Potion sounds like there is extra room on one side of the reed. I looked and it turns out that one gap is wider than the other. I think it was from when a long time ago it got slightly bent and was clanging. I bent it outward to remedy the noise and I must have bent it a tad too far outward. Will be making a video in the future of me trying to fix it with a bench vise. I have seen on the Varganist.ru page of him putting cheap harps in vises and shrinking the gaps down. In addition Mark Poss from Mouthmusic.com has told me about vising down cheap harps to make them better. Should make for a couple of good videos. In the future I'll be buying a couple of cheap lower quality harps and seeing if I can modify them into better instruments. Should be a lot of fun. Also will be buying some more simple tools and trying to make some harps. Thanks again for all the excellent advice

    The Star and Rainbow will be my next harps. But which one? 🤔

  • @enfielddnepr
    @enfielddnepr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, yesterday i took a harp which i left alone for a while, after playing with the glazyrin sail(if you want to choose between the frigate and sail, choose the sail, it is more crisp and pure)I took the Volgutova streamlet- i bought it because of curiousity to this maker..(ordered a more expensive one, polus 'another'one for the sending fee and.. just because..)The sound is not pure- like the Tatar- at all.. But it is clear, yet rustling, alive(like a streamlet?) and.. very nice to play.. very responsive with a distinct sub-sound..It screams for a jamsession with a bonfire...goes for about 1200 roubles..

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will have to check out the Volgutova you speak of. A jammin harp for 1200 roubles is a good deal.

    • @enfielddnepr
      @enfielddnepr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, i took it as a 'side order' but it pleased me more then the 'main order'' Haha!

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      arie sams Heck ya. It's nice when that happens. I looked at pick of it and it looks slick for the price. The next harp I'm looking at right now is a Munneharpe by Svatovsky. Also what is your opinion of the Glazyrin Uranus. Someone on youtube asked about the Uranus compared to the star and rainbow. I said I liked the star better but couldn't comment on the Uranus.

    • @enfielddnepr
      @enfielddnepr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the Uranus, its between the star and Rainbow....not very different or 'more'.
      I myself have some curiousity for a Latvian jewsharp but.. expensive.. I've learned that price and quality is not linear..
      The Christophorov's are expensive due to distance and bad infrastructure for instance..The Tatars are phenomenal in this way, in sense to pureness and overall quality in response..
      and the dan moi series.. well they just cheat!
      I will look up to that Munneharpe!

    • @enfielddnepr
      @enfielddnepr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm i cannot find svatovski instantly.. khomus.ru is chaotic, we both know Oberton -pro, guimbardes.fr is very expensive and he praises every harp.and danmoi.com.. well, can you give me a hint?

    85/100 rating? seemed as though you really enjoyed this harp. what harp has your highest rating?

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I did enjoy this harp quite a bit. My rating scale is a bit strict when it comes to the upper end. In the beginning I judged harps with the, "Bebbcorp Seal of approval," or not. This was a problem because I found that harps are a spectrum and not just good or bad. Many different strengths and weaknesses can be found in different harps. My rating scale is 0-60 garbage. 60-70 not great. 70-80 good. 80-90 very good, and anything in the 90-100 range would have to be excellent in every way. Not just in fit, finish, feel, sensitivity, sound, how fun it is to play, but also a range that I deduct or add points is value. If something is expensive it may lose up to five points or gain up to five points. The star harp lost about 4 points due to being higher in price and minor fit and finish. It is a very good, sensitive, loud harp. I have only recently adopted the 0-100 grading scale, but if I had to rate all my harps, probably the highest rating would go to my Tatarstan harps. Not only do the sound and play very well, they are incredible value at under 30 bucks. I would give them a 90. Some of my favorite harps would be my Masko average I would rate at an 88 and my Svatovsky munneharpe that I think I gave an 86 to. The thing keeping them from 90= scores are price.

    Which harp do you find best to get sound out of by just blowing with no plucking. I have not been able to master that technique with any of my harps? thanks. Peace

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zed Zed I am in the same boat with you. I can sustain sound by sucking air in, but I can't air start a harp. Something I might work on. Ariesams do you have any input on this?

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After some trying I have managed to consistently, "blow start," one of my harps. It is a glazyrin phantom, but I have had little success in blow starting any of the my other harps. I found it out by drawing air in to sustain three after a pluck. That air movement and feeling is the same rate and speed you need to draw air in to start the harp. I exhale all my air, then start drawing air in and feeling the reed beginning to start moving and make sound. It needs to be, "Controlled," and, "felt out." from the outside corner of the mouth. I talked to Nicoli Cornelius and he said a Rhombus Murchunga is an easy harp to do this with and is an all around good harp and cheap as well. I will be doing a video at some point demonstrating this. Good luck.

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truth is that they are a bit pricy and that they are one type of harp I have not yet gotten around to trying. For right now there are quite a few harps from all around the world that are more reasonably priced, that have my interest. So for now I will be concentrating on other harps. Maybe some time in the future I will have to try one, but for the price of one yakutian harp I can get several quality harps from some other region.

      Was the reed offset and it clicking often? Sometimes this happens. Hold the harp up to the light and look at the gaps through your dominant eye. If one gap is closer or touching, apply slight pressure to reed until gaps are even.

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also what did you not like about it? Also if you go from playing a toy harp to this it will be difficult as the harp requires precision.

  • @existingconsciously6369

    Hey, thank you for sharing this video. I am deciding between the rainbow, star, and uranus. I am wondering where you found the star harp for that cheap? the cheapest i can find is for $85, where the rainbow, as you mentioned, is $48

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem and there will be plenty more unboxings and reviews to come this winter. I have found that when ordering Russian harps, they are found the cheapest out of Russia at this site. www.oberton.pro The site can also translate from Russian to English and excepts PayPal. If I was choosing in between the rainbow and star I would go with the star. I like the sound a bit better over the rainbow, but the difference in between the two isn't huge. As for the the Uranus, I haven't tried the harp, but arie sams might have some insight on the Uranus. Arie Sams any thoughts on the Uranus?

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I talked sams and he said the uranus falls somewhere between the rainbow and the star. Not a ton of difference in between the three.

    Hey, new subscriber here. I was wondering which harp you would recommend to a beginner, but something I can really work. I am a musician and I'd love to know your opinion. thank you!

    • @bebbcorpharpery7331
      @bebbcorpharpery7331  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      xysmiles Thanks for subscribing. A good harp for a beginner would be a Szilagyi chancellor. The learning curve might be a little steeper because the gaps are decently tight, but once you get it figured out it will keep you busy for a while without getting bored. It is a very decent harp and plays and breathes well, in addition to being loud. Sometimes you can find them tuned although most are not tuned. I request them with solder ball triggers as well. They normally run about 25$. A noteworthy mention would be an altai khomus by Paval Potkin. You can get them directly from russia for about 8$. Not quite as good as the Szilagyi Chancellor, but as cheap as they are not a bad buy. My suggestion would be get a Chancellor. Happy harpin.
