they'd be screwed if they get independence, they depend so much on denmark, the minerals are very hard to get to, they'll have to give china and russia more contracts (so they grow stronger while the u.s. aka nato grows weaker), then they maybe sell of parts of their country just to get by, and they still only have 56k people trying to keep their country the size of alaska and california put together safe (enough coastline to wrap around the earth), if they become a U.S. state then it makes things much easier, like another alaska, I'd love greenland to sit there untouched and beautiful but that's not being realistic, it's a liability for our security (including denmark's security), it's going to get taken advantage of, the people aren't happy, greenland has the HIGHEST rate of suicide in the world
fun fact, greenland is nearly identical in size as the louisina purchase and about the same distance from the u.s. as alaska is from the u.s.

When you report on Greenland, please don't mangle the name of its capital, Nuuk. It's actually very easy to get it right. Avoid saying "nook" (as in nook and corner), and don't pronounce it like the English word "nuke" either (as in "he is threatening to nuke his enemy "). Instead, say "Nuuk" as if it were a combination of "new" and "ook" (not unlike the "ook" in "nook"). So, it's "New-ook", phonetically speaking. Even Danes who have lived here in Greenland for years and don't speak the language can generally pronounce the name of the capital correctly. So you can, too. Incidentally, a "nuuk" in Greenlandic refers to a headland or the tip of a peninsula. Now you all know a little bit of Greenlandic! Next lesson: stop talking about the US "acquiring" Greenland. It gives us the heebie-jeebies. 😅

I am Danish and there are so much misinfortation circulating. Greenland will never be independent. We Danes fully understand that the US will never allow Greenland becoming completely autonomous. That would mean that Greenland could make deals with Russia or China before the US. That is not in Denmarks, NATO´s or the US´ interest and of course we Danes would never allow that. The US already has free access to Greenland via agreements with Denmark. Denmark is a close ally to the US and our soldiers fought and died along side American soldiers in many conflicts since WW2, so this recent rhetoric from Trump and his supporters is very disappointing to say the least.

They also have a lot more personal freedom being with Denmark. The US rank 17 on the personal freedom index, while Denmark ranks 2.

Greenland definitely needs to be an unincorporated territory. The problem is, they can't possibly defend themselves. The only way to ensure that is to become a territory of the US. Imagine how well they could progress if they received the same kinds of tax credits every year to its citizens like Alaska, and had the USA's ability to built out real infrastructure. It would be far greater than what they get from Denmark. Operating autonomously, their quality of life and recognition of human rights under US Constitutional Law would be far superior than being treated like subjects under an outdated monarchical system.
