    • @Danniedorito
      @Danniedorito ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There are situations today's youth would feel similar about as you do for them, that is as far as newer artists/musicians/etc. It's so much more complex now with social media, TH-cam, tiktok, and etc. Really parasocial relationships are even more of a thing now than they ever were with how cameras are so accessible now. I'm 36, born 87, I've learned about Sonny & Cher and I get what you're saying. They were a strong act but they were more than that. What they did was something big for the time. I assure you that enjoyment you got exists still for those younger than me and even my age group. It's not lost ❤

      @@Danniedorito Media was so limited in those days you were stuck with broadcast TV, VHS, or movies not much else. I remember when this was on late night, I was 20 years old get home from work about 10pm stay up watch late night and go to bed. Sonny and Cher were mostly disco years also late mid to late 1960's so people today who were fans in their late 70's. Sonny and Cher had a very public divorce everyone was surprised to see them perform again. Neither one really could do what they were able to do together. Sonny was 28 years old when he hooked up with Cher who was only 16 years old. That's why later did their TV show she looks amazing she is so young 24 years old.

      They were an iconic duo and helped to transform music/entertainment! It was sad what came to light after their divorce but they were able to rise above and reunite for what became their last performance together and produced this amazing piece of both television and music history! Absolutely an INCREDIBLE/AMAZING performance! Thank you for posting this awesome piece of history!!! ❤❤

      @Sophiedopey98 People seem to forget that Cher had her own flings according to various accounts. It was reported by various people on the movie set "Chastity" that Sonny wrote & produced , Cher was seeing her lead male co-star. When she left Sonny in Nov 1972 at a Vegas hotel, she was with their lead guitarist Bill Hamm. They both made mistakes in life (who hasn't...). Cher said in a Nov. 2018 interview promoting The Cher Show play on Broadway that of all the men she's been with over the decades, she loves & misses Sonny the most & if he were to walk through that door right now, "we would be Sonny & Cher again in about 2 seconds". There are several interviews on TH-cam over the years where they both have said they still love the other. As Sonny once said "just not the marrying kind". Bottom line: These 2 were great together no matter what obstacles they had to deal with!!! We watched them as a family affair when their show was a hit in the 1970's. Our family now watch the shows on DVDs.

      Barbara Lee Interesting that you mentioned both of those Couples ‘cause those 2 divorces really shook my little world. I still feel like I grew up in Norman Rockwell’s Little Hometown, and it seemed to me that ‘Divorce’ was virtually an unheard of thing the whole time I grew up, until I left to go off to College. But, seeing those two
      Couples, who seemed (on TV) to be SO in love that nothing could ever break their marriages apart…actually dissolve their marriages & FAMILIES (‘Cause each Couple even had a Child & ,…that should’ve been enough reason all by itself to work things out),…I think made me realize that if THEY couldn’t make marriage work, then what little change did the rest of us have! Oddly, I’ve gone through 2 divorces in my own life. I think I’m gonna blame Ricky & Cher for all my failures, & heartache! 😩😜😉😁

      I was lucky my parents got along and were "soulmates" for 43 years. My mom passed about 7 months ago. My parents favorite thing to to together was just to sit and talk or my dad would sit paying his guitar and my mom would read the newspaper. Very low key easy going. They still held hands when they walled at the park or when we were on vacation at the beach. My dad was worried my mom would fall because she had dizzy spells. It was cute he was shy about it. Music like this from the classic rock era brought them together and they later on realized they were at a lot of the same concerts in the NYC area before they met.

      My parents first started dating in London during WW2 at 14 years old, although they’d been friends for several years before. They got together after my Dad’s then girlfriend was killed alongside half her family when their whole street was taken out by doodlebug bombs from an air raid during the first few days of the London blitz. I can’t imagine what my then 14 year old Dad went through expecting to pick his girlfriend up for a trip to the swimming baths only to find a crater of rubble where her street had been. He instead spent that day helping volunteers sift through the rubble for bodies. There were only 4 survivors, 17 were killed. Among them were Dad’s girlfriend, her sister, mother and grandmother. After my parents got together they were married for 64 years until my Mum passed away suddenly. Dad was inconsolable, he was with us for another ten years but he missed his sweetheart every passing moment. I’m happy that they’re together again. Some people are exceptionally lucky to find their soul mate, I haven’t in this lifetime….maybe next time. Time is but a grain of sand.

      I understand what you mean by soulmate. A girl I went with in 1976 for 14 months was my soulmate. She said I was hers. Despite this, she chose to move on. That was OK. Heartbreaking at the time, yes. Through a mutual friend I would get pieces of information of her life and she about me. Now, all these years later, she's in her 60s and so am I. Being I'm retired now, I sometimes wonder about her life and the family she raised. Still in some odd way, I still feel a connection. No, I'm not still in love with her, of course not. They both thought there was time left to eventually say all the things they needed to say to eachother. Its easy to stay mad at someone when you think they'll always be there, be there to eventually say you're sorry, be there to eventually make amends, be there to eventually say I love you. When Sonny died that all vanished and you were able to see how Cher was broken up about it. Their daughter at the time said; When I told my mom that dad had died, my mom (Cher) became almost hysterical, something I never expected, and for the first time I realized just how much they really loved eachother.

    This is an iconic moment in entertainment TV. Sonny couldn't really sing, but he put his heart into this. Cher didn't want to do this, but Sonny directed her as she's flopping lines and singing beautifully. In the end, you see a couple that's not over each other and enjoying the nostalgia.

    I think sometimes in life two people meet who have a special bond. And I believe that even if it doesn't work out there's something that will never go away between them. Unfortunately we aren't smart enough to realize it before we destroy it for life. It's a shame. Many of you know what I mean.

      Laura White life sometimes doesn't work the way we want or think we do. I know others who would probably change what they did. And then life seems to speed up and leave us with memories and some heartache. I feel robbed in a way that l can't go back. But what we do makes us what we are.still I sure wish I was less foolish when I was young. Now it's hard to accept some things and still try to go on with a smile. I do have people that I am thankful for now. Life ain't easy and no turning back. They had something special.

      Laura White hey I have those days. Music is like the story to my life. Sometimes you just need the blues. But there's the bittersweet ones as well. I keep some music lists here as we as my computer. I have a catagory of happy songs to help the (pity) days. But when you have a really bad day better ones will come. Sometimes one good song can change your mood slowly to better stuff. Other times just listen to those blues and be thankful for the memories. I don't know. How about Kodachrome Paul Simon, or newer love so Sarah Barelles. Even some old fifth dimension stuff. Like drink my daddy's wine. A few I use. Sometimes one happy song can lead to others. But I definitely understand you. Good luck.

      Laura White You know I just realized you mention (yesterday when I was young) and I thought of that song a few weeks ago. Most people around me haven't a clue to that song. I remember when Roy clark sang it and my father loved it. I didn't fully understand what it meant to him. I have no doubt now. And I've always had good comprhension of songs. Ok I'm done.

    Such a wonderful and magical moment. "I Got You Babe" was my wife's and my favorite song to dance to in 1969 when we first met and all the way until we married in early 1972 along with Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence and To Love Somebody by the Bee Gees. Great times and great memories for this now 64 year old man. Where have all the years gone? What a golden era we lived in! Turbulent times, changing times, hard times but we endured and now we have been married 46 years. Grandparents now and tired but in my mind it is still 1969.

He was 27 and we both knew he was diagnosed HIV positive in 1987, but all we cared about was that we loved each other and wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, which sadly wasn't for very long, just four and a half years later. But at least I knew what it felt like to have an, "I Got You, Babe," love.

      @Ariel - my God, if the song/performance didn't bring up enough bittersweet memories, your post certainly has. I worked with HIV/AIDS folks thru to success of the 'Lazarus' drugs late 90's/early 2000's. Prior to that, many beautiful people were lost because of political weaponization of the AIDS pandemic. I guess none of that matters anymore, our individual stories shuffled under as new challenges emerge & older ones become chronic v terminal.

    • @lisagerman2111
      @lisagerman2111 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And - I am SO sorry for your loss of Tim. As we entered the 2000's, every death from AIDS was so incredibly frustrating - we knew bringing the virus within drug treatment neutrality was closer year-by-year. A lot of funerals & memorials but because of medical advances, last service attended was 2013 (also the most heartbreaking).
