I have a couple of pairs of glasses and hearing protection. Because I'm old, I carry a small bivy in case I have to sleep somewhere unexpectedly and a space blanket that's bright orange on the back side for marking or personal use. My big secret is that I have a freeze dried ice cream sandwich with my mre. Man, that makes you love life when you're getting your butt kicked.

That amazing feeling of using fresh wipes to clean out all the dirt and ashes out of the nose after the fire👃

Very interesting from an Aussie perspective. We don’t use shelters as we are more vehicle mounted operations, and will usually return to a base camp each evening for the longer campaigns. Our day packs are usually kept on the vehicle.

Also I blended spray bottle of ballistol that it's good for cleaning cuts lubricating equipment, and maintaining gloves and leather

I like the emergency electrolyte packets to add to the water. Vitamin c helps with heat tolerance
Also put glove clips on the harness so I don't lose the gloves from a pocket
And I always carry a tourniquet from SAM

The roll of shit tickets is definitely a must. Keep it on the DL or you will quickly become the most popular one on the crew. I also keep fusees, a multi tool, hammock and sometimes bear spray.

Have you ever wished you had extra layers…ie a rain coat, hoodie, etc? Or are you typically pretty close to your energize where you can keep that kind of stuff. I’ve found that less is typically more. For structure protection especially, since you can keep a tote bag with all the extra goodies, and a cooler on the engine, and keep some weight off your back.

I forgot add it in the video, but yes, I did carry a very light weight poncho that was issued to me. I never ever used so I think I took it out at one point. I do keep a hoodie and some other layers in my red bag so I don't have to carry it all day. I was on an engine crew so I just left my red bag on the truck and was able to access it very easily.

@@wildlandfirefit that makes sense. No point in overloading your pack with layers, when it is 85 out and you are dying from the heat, and you have access to the rig with extra layers should it get cold.

All great stuff. I legit laughed out load when you pulled out the entire role of tp. I was already thinking, why would she have two full roles of flagging, instead of two half way used ones if you don’t use it much, but clearly you are set.

hahah you can never have enough tp! LOL Ya my flagging is over kill. I could cut it down to just one for sure.

@@wildlandfirefit lol, never hurts to have too much unless you can’t carry it, and it seems like you are more than capable of carrying your pack.

How do you wash your hands if there is no water around? i would imagine you wouldn't want to use your drinking water.
