Thank you for making this TH-cam channel! ❤ This will be my first season and your videos have been sooooooo useful for me ! Because of your videos I feel a lot more prepared for this upcoming season. I’ll be working on an engine crew with the BLM in Ely NV this summer. So excited for this journey ! I appreciate you again 🙏
YAY!!!! 🎉 That is music to my ears!!! I am glad they have been helpful to you!!! Congrats, tag me in any of your posts! I love seeing you guys out and about througout the summer!
Awesome video! You’re really going to help out a lot of people that are looking to getting into wildland Fire!! I would also suggest volunteering for Team Rubicon. They offer free sawyer training for their volunteers. This is a great way for people to get the feel of operating and maintaining chainsaws as well as getting experience in felling snags in post wildfire mitigation operations.
Passed my pack test yesterday. We also had to do a 1.5 mile run immediately after with as many push-ups and sit-ups in a min after the run. The pack test pass/fail is the only part that was required, the rest is to gauge fitness beyond the bare minimum.
Hello Ronnie I am Mike from California. I have all of my certifications I just need to get my arduous pack test and i can't wait! Definitely like watching your videos very informative. However I am looking into Volunteer Fire for the time being for experience and I was told I need a CPAT card
Ronio thanks, just what I needed, a beginning introduction. I'm a new volunteer firefighter @ 63 in northern New Mexico, our fire department is the smallest in the county. Just did the 3 day academy in the fall with a focus in structural and the Wildlands will be in the spring. Woot! Thanks again, have a great life!
S-110 wont get you onto the fireline or hired as a WFF. S130/190 , L-180, ICS-100 and IS-700 are the needed classes to get FFT2 on your redcard. There's also a field component that is required, finished my training yesterday. My training crew cut 800 feet of line, laid 1/2 mile of hose and did structure protection bump and run drill. Also shelter deployment drill. Before all that did a lot of fitness training. Oh I'm 62 years old...If you study and train hard you can do it!

I'm looking to get my red card has a contractor hazardous timber feller. If I'm not going through an agency. Who do I need to go through to obtain the red card?
Do I need an instructor to get the I-100 IS-700(NIMS), S-110, S-130, L-180 certifications? I have 1 season as a Type II Initial Attack. GS-2/3 I can’t remember. 😢 Thank you for this video! It really motivates me and reignites my passion for Wildland Firefighting. ❤
Great video! It will definitely help me get through some things to get my Red Card, especially the workout plan for the Pack Test. Thanks for the great video!
So if I got my S-110 in 2001 is it still good? I went to a minimum security prison and I got to go out and fight fires with Washington State DNR I had to a test and get into my emergency blanket in under an minute. I learned about the fire triangle and the terminology and fundamentals of a wildfire. So how do I find out if I am still valid or not?
I’m glad I found your Channel, I’m going to get into wild land firefighting very soon, I’ve talked to a couple captains already but I was curious. What is the difference between hotshots and cal fire ? Do you have a video on that by chance ?
Cal Fire is California’s wildland fire fighting operation. Hot shots are specialized teams of self-sufficient firefighters. Some are smoke jumpers. They eat sleep and work on the fire line in spike camps.
Am i able to do this without being hired onto an agency yet? I'm am trying to apply for positions that require my red card but i can't make an account on the website without being already apart of an agency. i just want to have the certificates so that i am prepared and can apply to these positions.
I joined the National Guard and they where asking if I was interested in becoming red card certified I kind of expected it to be a multiple week course. This seems like something that can be done in a day
It typically can be done in a day. You just have to knock out the training portion and then a pack test. I don't know if the National Guard has any other requirements though.
I use to be a volly in Co and we had to have S-110. I live in NC now and a guy in my construction crew is looking to get into in. I'm trying to give him an idea of the pay. I've heard some stories if folks getting 40-50k for a season. How true is this what kinda rookie pay ranges would he be looking at?
Thank you for the video it definitely helps figure out a starting point, just not so much to the "already be working for a fire agency portion. i had my first fire season 2021 in northern california on the dixie fire as a contracted heavy equipment operator. Just finished everything for FFT2 (online & field) except the pack test (will be taking in May) and will turn 60 tomorrow. I live in the Sierras and want to be able to fill SOME role during the wildfire season. Can/do people like me find roles in the vocation or are we just considered too old? You'll have to take it at the beginning of each fire season, however it will be a refresher training called RT-130. I know that is kind of confusing but techincally once you take S-110 you won't ever take it again, but it turns into RT-130... hopefully that makes sense.

Is there a certain age you have to be to get your certification for the S110?
