    Just applied for Wildland firefighter. Just completed Wildland certifications through my volunteer fire department. I'm excited!

    First fire I was assigned to was to deliver supplies to the fire camp. I arrived in the evening and was put to work right away until 2200. I was then told to be back at work at 0600. In the afternoon I asked what time will I take the truck back to Olympia. They said you are assigned to a wildfire, you are a resource on this fire until you are released. “I don’t know what DAY you will be released let alone the time. “ I had no experience with fires until that 1985 fire. Now I am retired from wildfires after 30+ years and I have had a lot of experience plus training thousands of others including but not limited to Yakama Nation, National Guard 2x , inmate fire crews, annual Fire Guard Schools. My “red card” and IQS has lots of qualified ICS positions listed. Including Fireline Explosives and High Angle Fire Crew plus 10 years on Incident Management Teams.

      Same here buddy! Class training/pack test is end of April for us, field training is early May. I'm quitting a stable secure job I've held for the last 10 years to start something completely new, and very useful. Here's to making a difference🤝

      How’d it go?

  • @dutchmans
    @dutchmans 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Well I was a wildland firefighter 1975 to 1985 back when there was a lit of limited resources. I thought about writing a book about my experience as a hotshot and engine grunt as was as loading air tankers

    • @dutchmans
      @dutchmans 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was on the Angeles national forest in California and worked at several stations. Hots shots were bearbdivide and fox tanker base in Lancaster. Also worked Valyermo , mill creek and monte Cristo

    I’ve been trying to get on with a veterans fire corps crew since I got out in 2021 still no luck I apply to every single one and always get an interview but ever time I get that email saying I haven’t been selected for it

    • @wildlandfirefit
      @wildlandfirefit  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah, I am so sorry! If you are getting selected for an interview, that tells me your resume is good. However, you may want to reflect on your interview skills. Can you walk me through a little how the interview goes?

    I just got a 80lb weight vest for 3mile test , do you think that's sufficient? It's adjustable as well

    • @wildlandfirefit
      @wildlandfirefit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes, that will be plenty of weight! You are starting out with a lower weight than 80lbs I hope

    I do have questions about eating. I am 135Ld and need 4 to 5 meals a day. how much room in your pack do you have? enough for a good amount of snacks?

    • @wildlandfirefit
      @wildlandfirefit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yeah, you will have plenty of room. I always kept an MRE in the bottom of my pack and then had a bunch of snacks

    • @december12ist
      @december12ist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wildlandfirefit how do the MRE's compare to freeze dried meals. are MRE's quicker to prepare.
