I didn't realize how translucent the hollow form is until those last pictures - pretty cool. I started with pine - from old 4x4 fence posts that had rotted at the ground that we replaced. The wood is light, very dry, and cuts easily. The wood was free and great to learn with. I'm simply a hobbyist and still have much to learn.

The resin chunks reminds me of Brach’s hard candy. So colorful and vibrant! Lighting it up was great too, it created a completely different look and showed the beautiful shimmer in some of the pieces. It would look great in a modern design setting. Great job!

It is beautiful Jim. They always pop when you put on the first coat of finish. Enjoy your time with your family, it is precious. We are visiting my son near Paris for the first time in three years at the end of next month 🌞

Jim: when I started turning, 30+ years ago, I made miniature things out of pine. I wanted to see if turning was anything that I would like. I made spinning tops and small toys for the kids. I graduated to larger forms in hard woods. Your info is a good guide for beginners. The hollow form does look nice. Lots of colour. Take care and stay safe.

I've turned some beautiful spalted Beech, it was dry (sat outside in a woodpile before it was given to me), and I just left it to dry in my basement workroom for about a year before turning. No cracking!

I love watching those ribbons of epoxy flying around!! On some of your videos you are explaining to some people (who don’t like it) that you chose to do talking after the fact (voice-overs) to explain what you are doing. I thought I would mention that I do really enjoy that format you’ve chosen. Sometimes it’s fun to hear the noise of the turning, but I also like being able to hear you without the distraction of that noise. I don’t turn wood and never will, but I really enjoy watching your videos and learning about it. Your pieces are beautiful!

That turned out great and an excellent use of the waste material. I have purchased at every dollar store I go in, the different shaped silicone ice cube trays for various seasons. Any excess mixed resins I have from a project, i pour in the ice cube trays and pop out the various shapes as there is always a chance to give away the small shapes to the kids or for your sales table at shows. Placing some of those shapes into a resin bowl might be fun too! Keep up the great work.

I love all the lovely colors and the gentle curves of the urn. I wasn't sure I was quite sold on you putting in black tinted resin, but after seeing how it turned out, it's spectacular. It needed that tinted resin. I loved the lustery golden look of the wood pieces too. And all the banged up resin color pieces are shimmering. It looks like a real treasure. My favorite piece overall is that gorgeous red and green resin australian pinecone looking thingy you made a long time ago. Looking forward to see what you make next week.

After you put the finish on it, now I like it. I wasn't sure if I would like it. Very colorful!

I like this hollow form; it is colorful, and it is a good way to recycle your leftover resin.

I made a small bowl like that but I used cut offs from pens. It really tire out great. I also made one with just small pieces of lumber. Have fun at 77 yrs old.

Hi Jim, That is a wonderful piece. It reminds me of when I was a kid and looked thru my Kaleidoscope tube and turning the two halves and seeing all the different color patterns. Ron USC RET
