This is not a battle between generations, but a real eye-opener for corporate HR functions to be able to develop sounds ways to build an effective multi-generational workforce.

I can tell you all, Gen Z gives zero Fvcks about these employers! My nephew is 19 took a day of work without asking. I asked "why you not at work" he replies "first of all it's the Superbowl and 2nd I just didn't feel lik working on a Sunday!". I said "you can't just do that, you don't have that privilege", he says "WHY NOT!!!!"

I am a senior officer on a ship. I ask one of my junior officers for something, anything, and the answer seems to always be "no". I offer to HELP and the answer is no. I totally don't understand.

I could probably easily explain that one to you, it’s because millennials and younger are very used to people not trusting them in any capacity. And letting them know that they’re essentially always going to be monitored by an overarching character in their life. They want to help themselves, they don’t want to help you, and they don’t want your help necessarily, because the attitude that many younger people get is one of frustrated “I’ve gotta teach you how to do this while I’m juggling my own life stressors”. Little to no autonomy combined with less reward for being essentially salaried due to technology, all while having some old school mentality trying to kick the can down the road?

Of course everyone is different. But what you have to understand is that people act, behave, speak, react differently to things in life based on their lived experiences and the era they were born into. I myself in regards to economics, I grew up in an immigrant household. Both of my parents were extremely poor and had no financial knowledge. And these are things I never learned in college until I took the time to spend my free time to work towards my own financial future. Not many Gen Zs do that yet. I'm also a Gen Z who tends to lean more in the realm of libertarianism (I'd say I'm more socially liberal, yet economically conservative). Some other Gen Zs may be way more liberal because they're millennial siblings are very active in the Black Lives Matter movement, while other Gen Zs are more conservative in terms of economics because they like the idea of a free market. Although we all think different, we all have the same processes of developing our ideas. We are probably the first digital natives to be entirely raised in an era where technology was available in some shape or form. And because of the problems that have risen in the times of Gen Xers or Millennials, a lot of Gen Zs are now trying to find ways to prepare themselves for the future at a very young age. That's what the whole concept of generations exists.
