Coming from a Scottish Rugby fan, Brussow is my favourite and the best open-side flanker in the world, possible the best I've ever seen. Fantasic little player, like a pitbull terrier.
brussow is hands down the best 'number 7' in the world atm. he competes faster than anyone else on the floor and he clears rucks more than anyone else. He doesnt drift in and out of games like someone such as Haskell or Chabal (just examples) he is always involved and is able to jackal best when players are knackered. GREAT VID.
It is interesting how he tackles.... Look at 26, 1:05, 1:27, 1:38, and 2:04. He sets it up to poach the ball. It amazes me how he get players turned. Defiantly a good flanker Brussow.
@SportsViids Yes he was injured did u see his first game back against NZ - he dominated every breakdown. For a guy to come off injury and play like he never left is something special, he is still at the top of his game and getting better.. He will make oaks squirt
absolutely love SOB running style, i watched him ireland v springboks in 2009 didnt see too much of him though.. saw some highlights recently on youtube, he is an absolute monster with the ball. Exciting times for rugby, NZ should be following everyone else and blood our best new flanker talent into the All Blacks(Matt Todd/Luke Braid). Heinrich is a monster too, and i want to see him do a number on AUS, pocock but most importantly, quade cooper.
@Thejsmith1892 just tradition i guess. i'm from england and as far as i know 6 has always been blindside and 7 has always been openside. i have heard that south africa are traditionally less rigid in the two roles than other sides though (sometimes playing left and right flanker rather than blind and open), which may be how the numbers have ended up the other way round
@JW4991 I know that in Aus the openside wears 7 (Phil Waugh, Pocock...), but in SA it seems different. Brussow hear is wearing 6, but don't also Burger and Smith play openside sometimes? Do SA sometimes play left/right flanker rather than openside/blindside?
@icyitscold Actually all the law states is that you must release the tackled player and get to your feet before attacking the ball, they don't have to go through the gate as the tackler creates the gate when first attacking the ball.
I have a lot of respect for McCaw, he is a great player. But, Brussow was outstanding in his first year, out playing even McCaw. If Brussow can play the same next year then he deserves to be the best 7 in the world.
Fantastic player, although will be interesting to see how he copes with the new breakdown interpretations when he comes back. Many of these turnovers would not be allowed anymore, as you now have to release the tackled player before competing for the ball.
Can someone explain this to me... In the Northern Hemisphere the openside flanker wears 7. Is it the other way round in South Africa, or do they just play with left and right flankers rather than openside and blindside?
@SportsViids he's just played a part in the last Bok victory against the All Blacks and probably in the same form he was back then. Our 6's are openside fetchers, and I doubt SOB could run over Brussow - but anyway we'll see quarters hopefully - let the talking get done on the field I say!
because in south africa their opensides wear number 6 and their blindsides wear number 7. i think its the same in argentina but not too sure about that one
@DLR1274 The Six Nations 6 times. And since 2000-2011 they've won the second most Six Nations games with only one less win than France. And 3 of Ireland's provinces have won the Heineken Cup.
Yeah, for sure. That is him as a whole. He is a good captain, and i agree with you. However, as a number 7, he doesn't reach the standard that Brussow was at this year.
@savundra92 brussow managed to compete with mccaw in 2 games. they were mccaws first two games in MONTHS. by the end of the season, even neutral british commentators were saying that brussow still had a lot of work to do if he wanted to catch up to mccaw.
@dbrooklyn1 O'Brien is a really good player. Brussow in 2009 was just astonishing, and will hopefully get back to that level again after his horrible injury. They're both fantastic and very different styles of flanker. Why the pointless vitriol from everyone?
SOB is a ball carrier and HB in a ball winner so they have very different games....still...HC hasn't experienced the wrath of SOB who would push him all over the park with his telepathic hand-off.....he is god
@icyitscold most of them are still legal as he released, got to his feet, and then went for the ball.. there are a few that would be penalised as he went for the ball still on a knee
People say he is too small.. I don't care if he is 5'11, he is simply built like a brick shithouse. As you can see from 0:30...is is simply immovable at the breakdown. Lets just hope he can adapt to the new rule interpretations.
KIwis and Aussies have no answer to the terrier like handling of Heinrich Brussow....with Schalk Burger and Juan Smith and Pierre Spies in support the Boks are once a formidable force
Nickname: The Badger or Ratel !!!! He is a primarily carnivorous species, and has few natural predators due to his thick skin and ferocious defensive abilities.
Notice all these clips were from 2009, that was when heinrich was the best in his position, but he's been plagued with injury the past 2 years and only really getting back to good form now. So nobody can call him the best in the world as an open side flanker, and those people talking about SOB, he plays 6 not 7 so they play different positions so you can't compare them. But i would say SOB would run over brussow easily.
@ChillFlood What kind of prediction is that? You're talking about it as if it had already happened. You do realise that there are actually other teams in the world.
@billybobjoli hopefully these 2 play each other at world cup and we will see if ur right or not. personally i go for brussow cos of his low center of gravity and the fact hes outplayed mccaw 3 times now. btw o'brien only got 10 pounds on this 'little child'.
I have a grá for the small lads who can compete and boss in the pack but something about Brussow just rubbed me up the wrong way. Unbelievable strength, grit and determination but a cheat who only had about 2 good years in the game before the rules caught up with him. In his 2 year prime he wasn't my favourite wing forward but if I was picking a world 15 I definitely would have had him ahead of McCaw, Pocock or Williams. Such a difference he made in a game... As much as I disliked him.
this guy and mtawarira are two great atheletes. . the only two guys i rate in the springboks. . as well aplon, de jong and hougaard. . . de villiers needs to pick these x factor players who can break the line if he wants to compete with the all blacks.
best out an out 7 in the world right now...mccaw completely different player..brussow is a ball stealer..u could see the panic in the irish players faces any time brussow was around the ruck..allbeit they dealt with him well he is an awesome ball winner
@DLR1274 Yes they did, but only one more than Wales. But I think the reason is that the team didn't have any unity. I mean, in every situation involving a South African and a Lion, another South African helped his teammate, whilst the Lions let their players get bullied.
@NefatiousK the bok victory against a weak new zealand team. Anyway what i'm saying is Sean is a number 6 blindside flank and heinrich plays 7 so therefore they are different positions and shouldn't be compared. sean is probably the best ball carrier in the world right now so i doubt little heinrich could stop him.
Coming from a Scottish Rugby fan, Brussow is my favourite and the best open-side flanker in the world, possible the best I've ever seen. Fantasic little player, like a pitbull terrier.
The Best and original jackal. Most under-appreciated Bok by HM who wanted to player bigger guys.
I remember the Lions tour 2009 and 2:08. One of my favourite moments. He just wants the ball. Moving 100kg of player like it's nothing.
this guy is awesome!he can almost win a game on his own!one of the best fetchers around..was the best fetcher in the world in 2009
Best fetcher ever in a springbok jersey
brussow is hands down the best 'number 7' in the world atm. he competes faster than anyone else on the floor and he clears rucks more than anyone else. He doesnt drift in and out of games like someone such as Haskell or Chabal (just examples) he is always involved and is able to jackal best when players are knackered.
GREAT VID.
Awesome. I can't wait to see him in action at Franklins Gardens. By god we need someone like this!!
Grayditch - this is an excellent video!!!
He is an awesome player and you did a great job showing his highlights!
Keep em coming!
It is interesting how he tackles.... Look at 26, 1:05, 1:27, 1:38, and 2:04. He sets it up to poach the ball. It amazes me how he get players turned. Defiantly a good flanker Brussow.
He took open side flanker to another level... i love the way he plays... which high school did he go too?
Best fetcher in the game. You watch him in games, he is like a hawk. Great vid Grayditch, you gotta make one for Bismarck man.
Great video. He has had a great season, what a super player.
What a fetcher!! 👏👏👏
Heinrich is a real Jack Russel. He's small, wants his ball, and will hurt anyone who tries to stop him from getting his ball... Fantastic player
great stuff. fantastic player, hope he keeps his form up ahead of the WC
@Thejsmith1892 Outside of South Africa the flanker numbers are the other way round. Brussow plays openside flanker, which elsewhere is number 7.
@SportsViids Yes he was injured did u see his first game back against NZ - he dominated every breakdown. For a guy to come off injury and play like he never left is something special, he is still at the top of his game and getting better.. He will make oaks squirt

I’m watching this in 2021 after we whipped the B&I Lions. Rugby was much more brutal then.
cant wait 4 this guy 2 get bac on the rugby field...he is without a doubt the best "out and out" fetcher in the world.
he's gonna play for Bokke this weekend! welkom terug!!!
Sweet Vid, Like it lots!!
Keep em coming.
Go Bokke!!
@savundra92 yes at grey college along with Richard Strauss and Francois Steyn, must have been a massive team
he is a great player and plays well he played well against the highlanders today
now that Brussow is out it might be an oppurtunity for Deon Stegmann to step up to the plate
Him and pocock the two best back rows at the moment
@SportsViids looking forward to watching him and ireland, along with brussow and the bokke and of course, the all blacks
great video!! whats the name of the song??
must help being unbelievably strong and built so low to the ground
@Thejsmith1892 just tradition i guess. i'm from england and as far as i know 6 has always been blindside and 7 has always been openside. i have heard that south africa are traditionally less rigid in the two roles than other sides though (sometimes playing left and right flanker rather than blind and open), which may be how the numbers have ended up the other way round

Do SA sometimes play left/right flanker rather than openside/blindside?
Wow. Great Vid. South Africa uber alles!!
great tribute man but is there any part 2?
@icyitscold Actually all the law states is that you must release the tackled player and get to your feet before attacking the ball, they don't have to go through the gate as the tackler creates the gate when first attacking the ball.
@dnny4
yes I'm serious, break the team down by rucking and tackling big, not by eye gouging and dirty punching
I have a lot of respect for McCaw, he is a great player. But, Brussow was outstanding in his first year, out playing even McCaw. If Brussow can play the same next year then he deserves to be the best 7 in the world.

i think its the same in argentina but not too sure about that one
Best openside flanker in the world when he is not injured.
Pocock and this man Brussow are the best at the turnover..
aw cant wait for this years tri-nations.
when does it start?
That guy is a beast!
@dbrooklyn1 I'm an England fan by the way, and don't think any of our flankers are quite at the level of those guys yet.
he's so quick to get to his feet! really impressive. he's like a better version of martyn williams
He is like a little pitbull. Once his hands are locked on the ball he will not let go.
watch the video he is playing always on the left side of the scrum
like a 6 closed side flanker
@somerandomer Oh right, i didnt know that. Is there any particular reason for it?
@somerandomer just South Africa, here in Australia i play No.7 and im openside flanker : ]
ball retrieval specialist!!
@DLR1274 The Six Nations 6 times. And since 2000-2011 they've won the second most Six Nations games with only one less win than France. And 3 of Ireland's provinces have won the Heineken Cup.

Bit out of the loop but when did Brussouw injure his knee?
@Grayditch
He's ERC player of the year and would go through Brussow for a shortcut
@Grayditch dont you mean the super 14?
he would be on me dream team definitly , i ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament, its very shit. sad to hear he did.
SOB is a ball carrier and HB in a ball winner so they have very different games....still...HC hasn't experienced the wrath of SOB who would push him all over the park with his telepathic hand-off.....he is god
Good news is he will be back for super 15.he is training now and ready to go
@icyitscold most of them are still legal as he released, got to his feet, and then went for the ball.. there are a few that would be penalised as he went for the ball still on a knee
Heinrich Brussouw, DIE beste no. 6 in die werld!!!!!
he is currently the best at the breakdown!!
(but tore a ligament in his knee last week :S)
People say he is too small..
I don't care if he is 5'11, he is simply built like a brick shithouse.
As you can see from 0:30...is is simply immovable at the breakdown.
Lets just hope he can adapt to the new rule interpretations.
6 is openside in south africa and USA. Brussow is not a blindside
south africa is paying the price for not having him in the team right now....
KIwis and Aussies have no answer to the terrier like handling of Heinrich Brussow....with Schalk Burger and Juan Smith and Pierre Spies in support the Boks are once a formidable force
thumbs up if you replayed him lifting the lions player
I love this dude(and no not that way).Inspired
Nickname: The Badger or Ratel !!!! He is a primarily carnivorous species, and has few natural predators due to his thick skin and ferocious defensive abilities.
@bUkWiLd323 In SA 6 is "openside".......
@colm1234gt where did Ireland end up????
@poonageproductions well lets hope its only the super 14 and not tri nations as well.
2:08 don't mess with the bokke XD
he's back!! played last weekend cheetahs - brumbies! cheetahs won!
@gizarangi Don't think they had that rule in Rugby at the time of most of these clips.
@DLR1274 Which comments?
Notice all these clips were from 2009, that was when heinrich was the best in his position, but he's been plagued with injury the past 2 years and only really getting back to good form now. fair point.and the govt. gets way too involved in sport in SA it actually cripples it in a way
@MBAXMAN93 IRB European player of the year 2011 , can play 6,7 and 8. Devastating runner with ball in hand.
@mlaauli how so?
McCaw, Pocock, Brussow. The best flanks in the world
i have no idea
@ChillFlood What kind of prediction is that? You're talking about it as if it had already happened. You do realise that there are actually other teams in the world.
@billybobjoli hopefully these 2 play each other at world cup and we will see if ur right or not. personally i go for brussow cos of his low center of gravity and the fact hes outplayed mccaw 3 times now. btw o'brien only got 10 pounds on this 'little child'.
he's a "honey badger"

Calling another man a cheat with providing facts and statistics.
this guy and mtawarira are two great atheletes. . the only two guys i rate in the springboks. . as well aplon, de jong and hougaard.
. . de villiers needs to pick these x factor players who can break the line if he wants to compete with the all blacks.
@TheBruiser012 No, he's a fricken legend.
best out an out 7 in the world right now...mccaw completely different player..brussow is a ball stealer..u could see the panic in the irish players faces any time brussow was around the ruck..allbeit they dealt with him well he is an awesome ball winner
yeah Sean wasn't really a top player back then but last season he was amazing and runs over anyone
Saron Gas and HB - Lethal
@DLR1274 Yes they did, but only one more than Wales. But I think the reason is that the team didn't have any unity. I mean, in every situation involving a South African and a Lion, another South African helped his teammate, whilst the Lions let their players get bullied.
@colm1234gt Ok maybe you'll understand this? World Champions 1995 & 2007.
Ye Brussow will be out for 8 months and will miss the Tri Nations.Cruciate knee-ligament injury, very sad
springboks need brussow
@NefatiousK the bok victory against a weak new zealand team. Anyway what i'm saying is Sean is a number 6 blindside flank and heinrich plays 7 so therefore they are different positions and shouldn't be compared. sean is probably the best ball carrier in the world right now so i doubt little heinrich could stop him.
100th like!
@wigsa he doesnt actually play 7, but i know what you mean! Id say at the moment Pocock would give him a run for his money!
