  • Mona AKA Sadgirl, is a Japanese artist who has been featured on New York Times and is internationally recognized. She has a great passion for Chicano culture and was humble enough to do an interview with us. In this interview we look into how Chicanos here in the states and people who embrace our cultura in Japan have some commonalities.

The same people who hate on our japanese peeps(who btw have had good relations with mexico since the 1600s!) who dress this way, are the same people who cant even speak to our paisanos down south. Who cares what those sensitive weirdos say, they actually know the culture and are not disrespecting it, much love to them!

What was it she said at 18:30 about "I was born in Japan but I love this culture", it sounds like a huge piece of my life I have missing, I've always felt like it was inappropriate to deviate from my culture, but this is making me feel otherwise, and I'd love to know if that's a term that represents that! Yani Modo, perhaps? I'd love to know, please comment if you know!

I think it’s perfectly fine to embrace other cultures. I strongly encourage it actually.
Ya ni modo is Spanish, something along the lines of “oh well. it is what it is.”
