Marco brought the best of a 90´s Satriani with his own and unique melodic approach and with the Timmons vibe all over it (1:30) This is genius work!

+babarain99 Check out Angel Vivaldi,he does some really cool,melodic stuff with 7 strings.Unfortunately,most guys with 7strings are just useing them for monotonous ''chugga-chugga'' riffs.

I know Vivaldi. I discovered him four years ago in an Ibanez Premium commercial. His songs are pretty cool. However, my favourite seven-string player has to be Keith Merrow. The guy comes up with epic riffs!

If you want or have a 7 string i'd recommend you step away from scales a little and start getting into chord theory.
The biggest benefit to the extended range in my honest opinion is not the extended range but the extra chord voicings that you can utilize.
Check out 7 string jazz for examples.

True. but note how compressed his tone sounds. Andy has mastered the Analog sound while Marco is all about digital.

This is a great example of having a 7 string guitar and still using it as if it was a 6 string guitar. I don't think he used the top 'low' string at all. Such a nice guitar too!
Will B What I've noticed with most aftermarket pickups is that even if a certain model is available as a 6 or 7-string version, they're slightly different still, which effects the tone across the regular 6 strings anyways. For example, look at DiMarzio's specs, they make Illuminators, LiquiFires, Crunch Labs, D Sonics, and Air Nortons all in both 6 and 7 string versions, and they all differ from their counterpart in terms of magnet type, voltage output, and resonant frequencies.

Beautiful song, yes. Petrucci and Satriani inspired, absolutely, 7 string, sure... but does he even touch the low B string even once in the whole song? I mean besides the occasional brush of the right palm while picking other strings? I've watched the vid 4 times now. He never frets a note or even picks the low B string one single time. Great song but I feel he's giving viewers the wrong idea. Anyone can play a 6 string song on a 7 string but why?
