I was in Newport Beach, California many, many years ago, just enjoying chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. Then, like a bolt, I heard the tastiest live blues ever! It was Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers with Junior Watson on guitar. I have been a fan ever since...
lovely playing from all....superb relaxed and swinging groove with classy solos from these great guitarists....love the mix of jazzy melodic ideas with their blues licks...and a touch of humour..... Junior has been doing this for years...deserves much greater recognition.... imagine seeing this master on the Crossroads festival & the like....weird how guys like him, Chris Cain & others don't seem to get a shot....strange...
The instrumental Junior said he couldn't remember the name of is his famous early tune called Butter Cup which begins at 28:55. I love it, and learned his studio recording on guitar. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform and meeting him in Portsmouth, NH this year. Extraordinary player and person. 🥰

Amazing show. Gotta be in the room; it’s a completely different experience. I could feel the air being pushed around the room 😮💨

Did junior Watson play guitar in Canned Heat at sometime.
Yes, in the '90s he played with Canned Heat.
@@jhoskins5630 Thanks for that I saw Canned Heat play in England a couple of times in the 90s Junior Watson looked different then so I wasn’t sure.
What is the song at 39:00 ? I remember Nathan James playing it too
It's Johnny 'guitar' watson "Love me baby"

Not an easy tune to play - but a great one :)
Seems like Dean Shot brought a solid body to a hollow body gun fight. Junior has the tone.
