@@scalebuildersguild All I found, was it looks like storms are coming to the north east, flagstaff got a bunch of snow, and the south is still feeling the heat!😉
I like the windshield effect. Now you need to add the water spots from the sprinklers that hit the truck on the one side as it was parked on the street.
I did this once with a proline 78 Stepside. The paint under the lexan was a mix of copper and silver. The top coat was white. I took it to my regular spot, drove like an idiot and let the rocks scrub off the white. I can tell you, there is nothing like real rock rash. Your rust pitting looks awesome!
Really cool to see someone doing this from the factory. I've been using the dual paint method (And your other methods) on my trucks for years, they are very convincing.
Nothing I love more than watching my Precious rub through some paint. And then he drilled and ground some holes, busted out the rust, and blew my mind.🤯😎 dude that looks really cool.
Sweet! Love it. Love my original Trailwalker, but it’s definitely a shelf queen modelled after the pickup we had when I was a kid (with the optional canopy on the bed). FYI, the original Trailwalker did come with the roll bar in the spare parts bag. I like the 1.9" tires and the aggressive trimming on the Black Edition. Will definitely pick one up and make it my first weathered body. Hopefully the inner fenders still fit those wheel wells. This is why I love Element RC. Every release is like, oh wow, I didn’t see that coming. They keep finding novel ways to iterate on a proven, capable chassis.
I feel ya on the patina advice! My first batch of Patina C1 chassis (looking back) were a bit much! BUT! Im glad people liked them and supported our creativity! Ive defiantly made progress since then. Great vid as always SBG!
Great idea by a manufacturer to get someone into customizing their truck via actual modelling, not just buying slap on accessories. Love how the quick weathering turned out.
This is awesome. I have been building WW2 RC planes and my favorite part was taking a brand-new shiny kit and weathering it up. Especially carrier-based Hellcats that have salt spray all over the front of the wings. Weathering WW2 planes helped me transfer into scale-building RC crawlers/scalers. It's relaxing putting in the work on RC cars since I know I'm not going to crash it from 100ft high at 90 mph into the ground.
I used to do this on my first scx10 that was converted to leafs by RC brothers parts. I just used a slight silver color under the body. Run the truck for a bit and do some rust where the scratches and scrapes occurred
Thats how i painted my crawler a couple years back, a mixed metallic silver and red primer underneath for a rust effect, then metallic silver then primer then top coats on the outside to pick up authentic paint damage and weathering on the trail ...... not cleaning it helps as well LOL :)
The original Trailwalker was a really cool truck, I'm glad I was able to get one after they were discontinued. It's too bad this one doesn't feature all of the nice updates from their previous release, excluding all of the cost cutting moves.
Good old fashioned steel wool is always a great start. Personally I've always wanted to have a little run-time on the truck before I start weathering, a little trail rash is always a good place to start
Thanks to you I paint all my trucks and cars like this. Then when they get scratch from rollover or horrible lines and tumbles I don’t worry. I weather by using. I must remember hit the high lines. All around good sheit!!!!
Thank you Matt! This maybe simple to you and many others, but its a great guide for me. I mainly focus on the mechanics and suspension aspects of my builds and keep the bodies clean and simple. But I want to try these tips. Hopefully Element will sell the body only. If not I'll buy clear and paint the inside and out. Thanks again!
Awesome video as always. Nice to see the manufacturers are still trying new stuff it is great to see. I think this is a great move fron element. Thanks for the content.
Roll bar in bed, same as blue one. Love my blue Trailwalker And the body mounts on Vanquish exactly as Josh did it when running with John Shultz, just need to trim Wheel wells for 1.9 tires.
Great job on the weathering Matt! The rusting/weathering was awesome, but the windshield wiper technique was a whoa idea as it really looked liked a vehicle in the elements...Element lol. This is the same body as the original blue version, but with body cuts around the fender and rear bumper lips. It also has the rock sliders from the red flatbed version. The original blue version looked more scale with 1.55 wheels, but yet you really made this version very unique. As far as capability, Element is legit with Team Associated DNA...no joke legit. Thanks for the video!
i mean its not exactly a new technology, i remember stuffing up a body or 2 like 15 years ago before i new about tamiya paint remover (best stuff ever) and just painting them flat black on the out side (masking the windows of course), also id say the indented and more fun way to use a body like this would not be to sit there and carefully sand the "lexen" body like its a highly detailed hard body would be to just charge up some batteries and take it for a spin, your going to acquire ware and tear over time just like in real life
Happy new year, great little tutorial especially for the beginner and enjoy watching you show some simple techniques. What a great RTR - ready to customise and make it your own straight up. Would be keen to see what it looks like with the optional flat bed tray. Thanks for sharing.
Have you ever tried cinnamon to make the heavy rust look? I would brush on paint or clearcoat and while it was still wet I sprinkle cinnamon on it. When I really want it chunky I spray clearcoat over the cinnamon which darkens it and then springle more cinnamon around edges to give it real looking depth
Looks great! Would adding streaks to the windshield be over the top? Could be as simple as a swipe with the rough side of that kitchen sponge. Would really add to the age appropriate wear and tear I think.
Very interesting idea for RTR, but I think the grille badly needs a wash to go with the weathering. I wish there was something to do to the plastic cage and the sliders too. I really like the elements though I'm starting to prefer portal axles You got the overdrive wrong, according to their website optional gears are 12% overdrive and stock is 6%, just like other enduros (except SE)
One blue fender or something. On another note, when you were masking the windshield, I thought you would put the super fine scratches in the section of glass that the wipers wear on over the years. However, that light coat of "wiped away" dust does look really real. Nice work.
Very very cool...thanks for the tips and secrets of weathering....I have not artistic ability but with that body I may be able to give that some weathering, thanks again for the tips and supplies for this technique!!👍👍
