  • This is not a paid advertisement. I really like this laundry soap! If you are busy and don’t have time to make homemade laundry soap, this one is a great option. It is a reduction in the amount of plastic we bring home, so that is a plus. Every little reduction helps our planet!!!

    Thank you for your review! I have the same problem with being allergic to a lot of detergent and want to try Nellie's

    Got my Nellie's laundry from Costco, much cheaper. I am trying to avoid Amazon if possible as they don't pay much tax.

      I didn’t think to check Costco. We have a Costco in our area and I have never been in it. I found Nellie’s at Natural Grocers though, so I am no longer buying it on Amazon. I am actually trying to get away from buying so much online. This push for people to buy online is making it so less and less can be found in stores. I am doing my best to support local businesses. And small businesses especially are being hurt by the COVID lockdowns, so I am buying what I can at small businesses right now, even if it costs a little more. I don’t live an extravagant lifestyle and don’t need a lot, so I sink more money into the things we do need. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you for commenting!!! Merry Christmas!! I hope you have a blessed holiday.

      @@naomimay82 it's only from Costco online shopping. I asked the employee and learned they don't carry in store.

    Excellent review. What is the cost difference between Nellie’s and Tide powder?

    • @naomimay82
      @naomimay82  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christina Harrison Nellie’s costs $18 for 100 loads. I am not sure about how much Tide costs. I am allergic to Tide so I never buy it.

    Hey Naomi, thnx for the tips! I'm not into making any kind of soaps yet, but I may see myself there someday. You know a LOT so I have a personal request for a recommendation or opinion regarding buying a good unscented body soap and a similar facial soap but for sensitive skin? I was just looking and find Neutrogena and other popular brands have both critical and positive reviews. I've been using cheap, regular body soap for everything and want to get away from anything harsh and scented. Cheers!

      Amy Joyce I love Dove personally. They have a sensitive skin bar that is unscented and is phenomenal. Toms of Maine is another good brand. As for face soap, I haven’t used any soap on my face in a couple years. I just wash with water. My face gets dry easily and I have found it seems to stay healthier if I avoid soap altogether. I hear a lot of people love Ethique brand though. They have bars made for the face (and for hair and body). I may try that brand myself one of these days. On Amazon they have an Ethique face sampler. Might be worth trying.
      When I eventually run out of my bar soap (I have a Prepper size stash! Lol!), I plan to try Ethique body bars. I have a ton of Dove, as well as some Kirk’s Castile soap, Burt’s Bees, and even Yardley. I actually like Yardley even though it is scented. Their oatmeal bar is awesome.

      Maybe I will try a bunch of face bars and do a video review of which ones I like best! An idea for a future video!

      @@naomimay82 Great advice, thanks so much! On Amazon a couple of the negative reviews referred to Dove as being great but I thought, "hmm maybe they are just there to promote Dove" (brain's can work against us at times). I'm probably be ordering some body/Dove tomorrow and check into the Ethique when I do.
      Maybe you will never run out your stash but not if you keep replacing it like I do with other stuff. I used to work as a cashier and customer service, handling a lot of money and with the occasional sweat could see money dirt as I wiped it away. No longer, but it got me obsessive, so as long as it doesn't dry my face out I'm going to continue. PS. A couple "reviewer's" of diff products mentioned that they just use water. Maybe it was you? lol.

      Amy Joyce If you see reviews on products on Amazon and wonder if it is me, check the name! I use an alternate name online when I don’t want my identity known. My alternate name is Whyn Willow. All Amazon reviews that I do are done under that name.

      Deborah Cook I do a mix; sometimes I make homemade and sometimes I buy. I am planning to make a batch of laundry soap soon; on a weekend. Buying definitely saves me time when I am super busy. Making laundry soap saves me money though; I have a teenage daughter who somehow goes through more clothing than everyone else in the house combined. I thought that would stop when I started making her wash her own laundry, but nope. She has too many clothes.

    Have you read the ingredients? Cheap water softeners, salt (a filler), and a synthetic nonionic surfactant, linear alcohol ethoxylate, so it is not ‘all natural’.
    You were never making detergent because the only surfactant was bar soap.

    • @naomimay82
      @naomimay82  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Frank Gutowski Can you recommend better options? I am always searching for better and more natural options.

      Naomi May - Sustainable Prepper
      Better is subjective. Products can be judged better than others in many different ways, depending on one’s preferences. Since the surfactant in this concoction is nonionic, I’m not sure why it would need to contain what appears to be a large quantity of water softeners. Maybe because they’re used as fillers to create bulk cheaply? Like you, users probably don’t bother to read what it’s made of, focusing instead on marketing slogans about what’s not in it.

    • @naomimay82

      Frank Gutowski I read the ingredients when I bought it. The ingredients list is much shorter than most of the big brands of laundry detergents and it lacks the fragrances that cause my skin to break out in rashes. That is a huge plus for me.

      OK. Well, that’s good. It is simple. Fragrance convinces some that laundry comes out fresh and clean. Others buy a brand because they prefer its fragrance.
      Detergent products are formulated to suspend dirt, rinse cleanly, and minimize potentially irritating deposits. Whether fragrances are responsible for irritation, I don’t know. Fragrances are commonly included in consumer products. A famous synthetic organic chemist I know once investigated the fragrance responsible for freshly baked bread, the objective being to incorporate it into packaging or diffuse it in stores. Unfortunately, the substance oxidized easily, so could not be used as planned.

    Hypoallergenic is a marketing term devised by clever personal care products marketers. It has no scientific or medical significance. People repeat it however, erroneously believing they’re saying something meaningful.

      Frank Gutowski As someone who breaks out in hives because of laundry soap, I am extremely thankful for hypoallergenic laundry soap that isn’t loaded with fragrances. I am highly allergic to many laundry detergents. I will continue buying my “hypoallergenic” laundry detergents that are free from common allergens so that I can live a normal life.

      OK. I assumed you were obsessed primarily with packaging you didn’t approve of.
      Here are more meaningless phrases, in case your viewers come across them:

      Printing objectionable ingredients a product doesn’t contain on the package, as does Nellies, is another clever marketing trick.
