    HERE in the US we have some that's been converted to burn oil instead of coal, Big Boy is one of them that was made in 1941, towards the end of the era. Sure can tell the difference, the coal burner bellows out so much black smoke and the all you see from the oil burners are mostly steam evacuating.

      That's like our local 59 class locos of 1952/53. They were made by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton as oil burners. All but three would retain their oil burning facilities upon withdrawal in the 1970's. Cheers!

      @@DP.NSWRAILFAN Same in East Africa, all Garratts were built as dual fuel. The place for the coal stoker motor is in the gap behind the cab.
