I think it essentially comes down to how plausible a character's strength will be in a fight. When you get introduced to a concept you expect the same rules apply to everyone. You can either have a inherited power from your lineage but you can just become stronger out of your own strength you build up.
While maybe not as important, Ido think how much a system works narratively and thematically is pretty important too. Probably kind of a no brainer, but still. In MHA, quirks aren't just there for the sake of cool fights. The entire world is built around the very idea of people being born with super powers. Every single character is shaped by their power of lack thereof and the overall society formed around these superpowers. Then you have FMA and Avatar TLA where basically every single facet of the story ties back to the power system. Also, if anyone wants to see what an absolutely abysmal power system looks like, just check out rwby.
I was just about to comment something similar, but yeah this is a very important aspect. How well the power system fits into the themes and what it represents is my key factor in determining a good system. Like in both FMA Undead Unluck, where basically all of story, world building, characters, and themes are built from and around the Alchemy and Negator systems respectively. And especially in Undead Unluck, where the way the characters use these powers that were thrust onto them and deeply traumatized them to help other negators master their powers represents using your own experience with pain and devastation to reach out and help others experiencing similar pain. It’s really fucking good
This reminds me of a power system from A certain Magic Index's, which is actually my favorite power system. It completely revolves around narrative, world-building and verse. The plot follows the conflict between science vs religion. Within a highly technological city, there is the Esper power created in the laboratory, each Esper has a power linked to science and there is an entire level system (0 to 5) that classifies them. Level 0 being the weakest as it was unable to awaken its powers (just like Mha where people can be born without powers) and level 5 being the strongest as it has countless ways to use its power. The issue is that most Espers in the city are level 0 for narrative reasons. The city is self-sabotaging the program that turns children into Espers and preventing them from awakening their powers because... Outside of this city, there is magic that consists of relying on real historical and mythological figures to create spells. Therefore, the entire verse is based on our world, which provides various types of religious tales and myths. 99% of magical side characters consist of an existing or mythological figure with all of their lore introduced and explored. Among them, the greatest example is Aleister Crowley, the British occultist and creator of the Thelema belief. I would say that Thelema is the most important thing in the series, it is not just one of the magical systems, its concepts and principles "do what you want for everything is the law" shaped the entire series, from the narrative structure, to the evolution of both sides to character development and the writing of the protagonist. I love how the author creates 2 power systems, Esper and Magic, which should be completely different but are actually sides of the same coin because the Esper power, although completely based on science, quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's Cat, etc... it it also contrasts with the principles of Thelema. And hell, I love the Avengers style of combo attacks that RWBY uses in his fights but really, his power system sucks.
I believe power systems should be creative and simple. For instance, I love One Piece powers because it’s really easy to follow, even with its set of rules. Devil fruits gives the user said ability while spicing things up with learning the other potential power known as Haki.
@@Nooby_2D there are no hard rules to the df ability. this means there is no limit. an island lv attack has no drawback other than "taking years off their life", but how is a real consequence when it doesn't affect the story? luffy has taken probably decades off of his life by now, and where is the consequence of that? he is still fine. if he had gotten more exhausted throughout the journey, and it also affected his fights, then i would've agree with you, but we don't see anything.
@@Dave_of_Mordorno attack has luffy done that has taken years off his life. Dfs have their hard set rules therr are three categories and each ability of each categories have things they can do and can’t
FMA is the only with the best power system. It's consistent and the only way for them to get a power up is either a sacrifice or through the philosopher stone. These seem to be the rules of the series. The others you listed gets their dbz power up through strong emotions.
@@Archaoen0jojo has 2 power systems, hamon and stands. As a power system, jojo isn’t that good. Stands themselves are cool and all but they really are just another random ability power system. Hamon is good as a power system though, but not as good as other anime
Great video but my only issue with it and other power/magic system videos like this is that the title, and the content in the video, seem to suggest that there's only one way a power system can be "perfect" when, just like magic system, power system's have two types: Soft and Hard. And depending on the type of shonen being written, either have their own version of "perfect" "Hard" meaning the system has a very strict set of rules and limitations all of which should generally be completely understood by the reader and can't really be broken as the series develops. Usually, more and more rules are introduced as the series goes so the grading in how good those systems are usually based on how constantly written they are. These have their strengths; Fights and Matchups will always be more interesting when the system is hard because every reader will know exaclty what every combatant has to offer with their skills making conflicts believable and filled with hype. The problem with this vid you've only really tackled Hard Power Systems in this video, which are all very great systems in thier own right, but to set these precedented standards as the criteria for a "perfect" power system, when on the other side of the spectrum lies "Soft" power systems, kinda disrespects the things other power system's achieves that these lack. Where Hard systems strengths lies in fights particuarly, it feels like that's all it really strengeths: The fights. "Soft" systems usually do better at showcasing the Characters, Story, Themes and Worldbuilding. "Soft" meaning the powers don't need to have lines of explanation, explicit rules and consistant writing. Generally some aspects of the power's are left open to many implications. However, because the system doesn't need to rely of overwhelming the info to be apprecaited. Time is spent more on how these powers effect characters emotionally, how they play into the themes of the overarching story, how they effect the general world they belonging on a day to day basis. Two great examples are My Hero Academia(Quirks) and Chainsaw Man(Devils). Both series' systems heavily infleunce society and how the world play's into the story. With Quirks, they aren just super powers people are born with, thier a phenomenon when, in its inception, caused civil unrest around the world, breeded new forms of segregation, caused specific people to be casted from society but also did things like inspire the innocent and literally play into indiviuals entire identities. Both the Worldbuilding and Story are directly impacted by the very nature of MHA's power system and has constently so from chapter 1 to this current finale. I'm not in anyway saying Quirks are better written than Curses, but i've found myself enjoying Quirks more recently becaise of its connection to the bigger picture of the story being Devils from Chainsaw Man is similar to Cursed energy, but alot more simpler in the fact that a Devil's strenght is accurtely compareable to how much humans fear its name. Unlike JJK however, everyone knows that devils exists, and they have been since their inception, Thus, they've relatively had an effect of how society is, in turn how characters act and come to conflict and in turn, the narrative and world building. Now that begs the question? Which is better? Hard or Soft? Which is more "perfect". Well that kinda thing is usually up to the reader's prefrences and what thier trying to get out the story their experiencing. One thing that's inarguable is that both have strenghts which the other lacks, I'm hoping you can talk about some of these topics in the next video Once again, great video, sorry for the essay
This is like the best comment and my main issue with this video as a whole. Nen and stands and quirks and alchemy and cursed energy are amazing power systems because they fit the overall themes and motifs and aesthetics of their series. If you swapped any one for the other (quirks in FMA, stands in JJK, etc.) then these series would completely fall flat or be completely different because they're all structurally and fundamentally different. You can't just say CE would be better if it were more like Nen or Stands. That's not really how writing works.
What I think makes a good power system is an explained set of rules (such as restrictions/requirements) to how things work in a way which there are little to no moments where you'd ask " how'd they do that?", and where the users can be creative with how they can use their powers (for example someones only power to shoot fire, and that's all the can do with no creativity twist to it). Some good examples of series that I think really show this off are Skeleton Double, World Trigger, and The Law of Ueki. If those series/HxH, JoJo, and UU are S-A tier, then I think I'd put JJK in B to B+ tier just cause I feel like tho they do have rules and structures to their abilities, I feel like alot of their abilities are either very restricted in what they can do (Todo, Nobara, nanami), they have moments of skyrocket in energy/strength that you wouldn't usually see in more structured power systems, and things happening that feel like they go against what was previously stated. It doesn't help that it feels like it tries to make things seem more complicated then it actually is with how they explain/word certain things.
I like the way you ordered these rules. When you were going through the first few rules I was thinking to myself "this feels like the minimum for a decent power system" but the later ones as you said are what separate the good from the great. I know you have a part 2 in mind according to the video and whatever that might be I hope to also see you try applying this criteria to other series that weren't included in the video. Fire Force & World Trigger have some great ones that I'd like to see analyzed under this lens as they are among the best outside of the ones you mentioned in the video. There was another comment that mentioned they liked Demon Slayer & CSM and while those power systems are not as interesting to me, I guess they can be included too. Of course all these are well fleshed out series. If you wanted to toss in maybe some lesser known series I would suggest Skeleton Double or Gachiakuta which have promising but less developed at the time power systems. Maybe this could be the community question where you ask what series power systems people want to see evaluated.
The way that everyone in border has access to the same tools (with notable exceptions) yet still manage to apply them all in unique ways is one of my favorite parts of WT. Side Effects are dope too.
I think cursed energy ranks in my top 10 and works even better than how it's shown in YYH, also besides the 3 you show in the thumbnail. The magic systems in Fairy Tail, BC, Magi, and even Frieren work really great to me. How adaptable or how the characters' powers get an upgrade is cool.
I wish this video wasn’t so JJK centric, makes the title super misleading. You’re really just talking about why JJK’s power system is worth looking at, which is part of watching it.
I think it os important to say - JJK's power systems do actually have a lot of potential due to: 1) Binding vows 2) One's own understanding of the world We can see how Gojo can use a binding vow to change the rules of his domain, how Nanami saves extra cursed energy for when it's needed, MeiMei sacrificing the crows and everything else - all of it is out there for each character to grasp and manipulate for their own gain. As long as there is a need, any ability can be changed/enhanced due to a binding vow. We also see how Sukuna can utilise Mahoraga's adaptation just because he has the skill to do so, as well as we see Yuji being able to damage souls just because he understands how to. Deeper understanding of the world allows characters in JJK to evolve their powers, and that is a great thing for any power system. (I personally assume that Jogo's maximum meteor would also come from just understanding more about his technique, considering meteors are not usually something one would associate with volcanoes, earth or fire, but is a very reasonable addition to his arsenal)
I personally just don't like the dense paneling that is used to explain how everything works, taking out the pages where it's basically all text would really make the fights flow better
My favorite part of JJK's power system is that its actually built on *the illusion of rules* rather than actually having strict rules for everything Now what i mean about that is how in the Shibuya Arc Kenjaku and Mahito talking about how their techniques completely clash and contradict each other so Mahito puts out the idea they work on entirely different systems *then Kenjaku, the oldest and most experienced sorceror in JJK, agrees that cursed techniques are basically personal micro power systems under a general umbrella instead of being bound to one set of rules* We also have it literally said and or showcased multiple times that Jujutsu higherups keep a very strict handle on what is and isn't proper in their traditionalist mindset which is literally stated when it says the heigherups don't like Kugisaki because her technique is outside of what they consider proper of their system So its not a lack of creativity on the writing part its *a literal in universe stifling of creativity from the top down by a traditionalist government* And we see this even more because the top tiers are the ones that actually think enough to go outside those norms, hell that is *literally Sukuna's entire fucking thing and why he's the strongest* But we also see that with characters like Mei Mei, Kenjaku, all the special grades, and almost any other top tier sorceror or cursed spirits as well because with cursed spirits they were never beholden to societal restrictions or expectations in the first place 😂 Also my guy did you really say Todo and Jogo can't do much? Thats literally your lack of creativity my guy holy fuck 😅
Cost: It has to cost something significant enough to where characters have to use it sparingly and with a lot of thought. Source: Create a believable source of magic that's compatible with the cost, maybe there's some sort of moral dilemma to using "dark magic" because even though it may offer some sort of advantage it ultimately benefits something malevolent. Potential to create conflict: Make some way for it to cause conflict beyond just: "I wanna kill this guy." For example: Maybe the characters have to rely on someone else as a conduit for their magic and overuse of them could seriously hurt or kill them, they could be held hostage as bargaining power even against the coldest most heartless people because losing their conduit means losing their power. Diversity: If everyone is throwing the same generic energy blasts at each other, fights quickly become stale. Create unique variants of it with different strengths and weaknesses and don't spam it so much, make use of rare magic actually rare so when it's seen it's special.
@@stargoldinum3798ye the only thing that bothers me is that, like why can't Shinigami use stuff like Cero? Clearly it's powerful, and it is just very compressed Reiryoku, so why can't they do it? Or do they just choose to ignore a howitzer?
@@itzwizory9556 I think its because they're sort of the opposite to Hollows. related but functioning in divergent manipulation of reiatsu. Humans produce it, shinigami seem to direct the flow of reiatsu, Hollows consume it, and Quincy destroy it upsetting the balance. I could be off though. if the whole world were arteries in a body reiatsu would be blood. Hollows represent blockages in its flow and Shinigami release it while Quincy punch holes through organs.
@@itzwizory9556Shinigami can’t use Cero because they simply haven’t tried, also because it doesn’t fit their artistic fighting style. This was shown when Kisuke saw a Bala once, then immediately did it himself. I could be missing something, though
The best power systems have TWO components, the highly personal/specialized abilities that are based off of a common system, and the more generic applications. For One Piece it is Devil Fruits and Haki. For HxH it's Hatsu vs Ren/Ten/Zetsu etc. And with JJK it's Innate Techniques vs Barriers/RCT/Domains. I believe the perfect power system would have a well explained and balanced Personalized side like Nen's Hatsu, and a more flashy and versatile Generic side like JJK's . Nen's generic side is visually boring to see used and often just boils down to how much aura you move around your body and where. Meanwhile JJK's innate techniques are cool... but they are also really random and unbalanced with no real structure. No matter how hard you work, you probably can't contend with Gojo because his ability is super hax with absolutely no drawbacks. TL;DR: Personalized system should be balanced and structures, while generic counterpart should be tactical and flashy.
reading further into HxH manga, I've started to see the lack of inherent "flashyness" in Nen. Not many of the Nen categories allow for spectacular moves, but as the story progresses there are more and more characters with cool looking skills and it feels as if Togashi has to stretch the system just to allow them to exist.
I am an aspiring novelist, creating my own superhero universe and I have something called superpowers. These superpowers come in four types. Magic- a power that you create, weaponry- a power that you draw from an object, control- a power you can control at will, and upgrade- a power that upgrades you or others. There are subtypes to every single one of them but those are the four main ones
I do like awesome limitations and clearl rules on powers. It makes it feel even more deserving when a smart character utilizes the power system to its fullest, taking into account the different tricks to getting around limitations. Not being strong just because you have more power but you earned the power, from knowing how it works.
Bleach has a interresting Power System, because how the Species/Races and their diff Powers work, is left hidden for the reader to pick up, instead of just explained - bcuz all the other extra details and mechanics don't actually matter for the plot. Everything we know abt the Power System in Bleach, is limited by what the character themselves have knowledge on.
@@Fake_level_5Yeah bro but still skills are not determined by your birth, and you don't necessarily need to make a skill based on your Nen type. Just remember Kastro, he was enhancer, but only used manipulation and conjuration skills
@@Fake_level_5blocke, that's not their powers, it is their category, we KNOW the category does not define how the real ability is going to LOOK AND WORK. Also, we know through Castro and Netero that the category does not define the possibilities.
I disagree with the notion that the aplication of the powersystem isnt varied. Like with the hunter hubter example, CE on it's own can be used in varied ways as well. Using the same todo example, in just two fights he used CE reinforcement, simple domain, black flash, and utilized his CT in a very creative way, like imbuing objects with CE and clapping with his opponents hand. With jogo, he can create traps with mini volcanos, create bugs, create a meteor, use domain amplification, and use a domain (though admittedly we dont know what it does). I think gege does a great job at making each charcter have varied applications of the power system.
I heard the kingdom hearts music in the background, and I instantly subscribed I didn’t even have to listen to the rest of the video but I’m about to!!!
Non innate techniques are more interesting than innate ones. Because it lets you see someone’s preference for a domain barrier, someone’s ability to balance their ct with Domain Amplification, and Cursed energy manipulation in general is pretty fascinating based on how it’s described
I believe Nen was pretty much the best we’ve seen so far in pretty much any shonen. The concepts are pretty simple and make sense - there’s just so many of them that you have to really pay attention anyways.
I feel like the best thing about nen is how situational it is. That is the only power system that I can remember that allows for a person of any level of power to win in a fight depending on circumstances. Just because nen is so incredibly specific, has such an insane variety and mostly is very restrictive for the user, that allows to create such bizarre concepts ranging from the door between two twin sisters to a guy with a bubble gum (that possesses properties of both rubber and gum). This is what makes nen fights so engaging - most of the time it’s very hard to predict a winner, and because abilities are so specific the way characters utilize them often feels like a chess game. It’s way less interesting to see a guy with ice powers fighting a guy with fire powers then see someone with a power to become an insect for 5 minutes being one of the most crucial pieces of a puzzle for the main character of the arc to become victorious (the royal selection arc slaps btw). Hisoka x Kuroro fight is honestly still one of my favourites in all fiction despite not even being animated yet. I just feel like nen allows for an insane level of creativity while making most of the characters pretty equal in strength, so that the winner is almost always becomes the person who was able to understand his opponent the most and create a strategy SPECIFICALLY against him.
Power system should be an important part of overall worldbuilding. Creating a power system that follows the universe's rules from start to finish of a story without pulling a Deus Ex Machina card should be encouraged.
if you like technical power systems watch hxh, nen is easily the most in-depth power system ive ever seen and the amount of stuff you can do with it is genuinely insane, its VERY applicable. like one thing i love abt nen is you could basically take anyones power from any piece of media ever and adapt it into a nen ability in some way or another. a simple one is todo from jjk, teleportation is under high-level emission so you could have him be an emitter and make an ability where the activation condition is clapping, and the self-imposed limitation is it can only swap positions (him or others) rather than any kind of teleportation, and it only works on something that has aura
Jjk cursed energy is pretty great, mainly because of how open it is. It is essentially a framework more than it is a concrete system. What exactly an ability is can be wildly different, and they are framed in a consistent system everyone uses(cursed energy, reverse curse technique healing, technique reversals, domain expansions). The one thing that drags it down is how static abilities are. They don't change, you get them at birth and that is it, or maybe not. I hate how the whole system is basically made on the go. Like, clan techniques show that they are passed down, but Hakari got his based on a gambling machine, like, was he born as a gambling addict or what? The only other way to gain a technique is to become the host of an incarnated sorcerer. Yuji is the only person who got new techniques and was still himself by the end, as he was unc's vessel for a while and then wasn't but kept the technique, while also eating the rest of the death paintings without having them incarnate as they were his brothers and the psychic connection between them and Choso means they probably understood why, giving him just the blood manipulation. I honestly would still rank it highly, but not further than a B. It also takes a lot of the good from other existing systems and isn't very original. Specifically Hunter × Hunter. Everyone and their mom bases their power system on nen nowadays, but jjk feels like it took things wholesale and git rid of aspects that made the series actually interesting, like nen types and the way they can shift over time based on the abilities you use and develop and having to actually create your abilities, with a static "you get what you get" system. I also love when a system introduces an ability which seemingly breaks the rules, but is explained later and actually makes perfect sense. If an author creates such an ability, intentionally or not, the system will shine through if an explanation can be given. Jjk didn't exactly fail at this, as abilities can do basically anything including breaking reality, but does it with the systems surrounding it, specifically binding vows. Like, how many did Suckuna make, and we never got an explanation of what he was signing away with them. Everytime the author needed to prolong the final fight with another death he would retcon in the ending, unckuna would just make a new binding vow. We never even got a solid explanation on how vows work, what counts and what doesn't and what triggers them to even be able to judge wether Sukuna actually made sense or didn't. Hunter × Hunter did this recently and it's so great that it just flows with the chapter it is in and you can even miss it in the walls of text. We were shown that Tserriednich developed a nen beast seperate from his seed urn guardian, and it wasn't mentioned again and seemed to just be a throwaway moment to establish him as a nen genius. Then he got a new ability during his training that let him rewind time and choose favorable outcomes while he was in zetsu, which should be impossible as you release abilities using hatsu and shut off all of your release with zetsu. But the explanation given in the last chapter is that the beast is storing nen, even when you cant see it, and the ability is used through it, with the going into zetsu being the condition to trigger its ability. The walls of text in H×H also rarely have anything to do with nen abilities. Most of them currently are inner monolog of the characters or really long conversations, which is because the current arc is a complex political drama with tons and tons of parties with different goals who are all working against the others but having to maintain some semblance of contact or pretend alliances. I honestly like how detailed it is. Abilities have also gotten pretty simple, usually needing no more than a little text on the page they are used or no explanation at all. Like, Benjamin inherits abilities when his soldiers die, Kurapika has a new chain that steals an ability and injects it into someone for a one time use, the guy with the air fist shoots an air fist, Camilla has a cat that kills whoever kills her and revives her, one guy has sentient blood, the girl with him can punch out your thoughts, the doll with the snakes is somewhat on the more complex side but pretty easy to understand. The most complicated thing introduced so far has been Tserriednich's time manipulation. Even existing complicated abilities like Kurapika's chains seem to have been simplified a lot, as we barely see anything other than the dolphin/injection and the truth chain. Simplification in general is a thing that happens a lot in h×h. If you don't use something, you don't. Gon comepletely stopped using paper after developing it. Netero's numbered hand abilities seem like a multi-layered ability, but they are just variations of the same thing with one suicide attack with zero. Genthru's bomber seems like a good ability, but other than the psychological aspect he is essentially putting his strongest attack behind a condition and having to use a weaker one for his actual fighting, which, while it does damage, is being used in a game where you have a card that instantly heals everything in circulation.
Imo i like Narutos Powersystem Its very simple and easy to understand Not only that, it does have its own categories like Gen-,Nin- and Taijutsu It can also create unique, diverse and strategic battles despite its simplicity It gets slept on imo
It used to be top 5 for me but then all the wacky shit started happening by the final ark and the powers system has brought so many plot holes to the anime
Naruto's magic system is heavily underrated, and I see that the people that talk about it really lack understanding of it because they always stay in the most superficial aspects of it: nin, tai and genjutsu. In naruto's world the magic is inherently interwoven with genetics/physical prowess. That's how you have special techniques that only one person have and will ever have, or just one bloodline: Sharingan, byakugan, Haku's ice powers, and the "best" of them all, the Hashirama's cells. It also gives characters unique characteristics, like the Haruno clan having a special aptitude for manipulating chakra, the Uzumaki clan having a larger pool of chakra than others, etc. But that's not all, the ninja arts also are interwoven with science. Orochimaru's curse is the result of experimentation with the genetics of one special individual, then transforming that genetic power into a substance/technique that shares that same type of genetic unique ability with others. Or the Akimichi clan's special pills, basically chemicals and other substances having a direct impact in the body/chakra and producing unique results. But THERE'S MORE. Then you have PACTS. Yes, like in Chainsaw Man one can make a deal with a devil to obtain their powers, Naruto's world is a multi dimensional world, where creatures that inhabit their own realm (toads, snakes, etc) can be talked into a deal and share unique abilities and knowledge with a ninja (hat's where Naruto's sage mode comes from) or they can be summoned to directly engage in the fights. Even "normal" animals can make deals, the Aburame clan is famous for letting insects live inside their bodies and feed from their chakra, and in turn they provide help during fights. Naruto's magic system is amongst the best, and it's kinda weird that all its ins and outs are widely unknown..
I think one of the things that makes nen so good is that a character could in theory use only the general applications of nen without ever creating a technique of their own and still be a serious threat in-verse if they master those applications.
Pursuit of Heaven Power system: “Pursuit of heaven” takes place in a world where samurai utilize an energy known as “Prana” to fight against each other and other worldly beings. Vibrations are the essence of Prana, and depending on a person's soul/spirit, their prana will either be low frequency prana/low vibrations or high frequency prana/high vibrations, the vibrations an individual has will dictate their Magical Affinities/Associations. Prana/Atman/Nadi systems/Shindo: Prana is the most important component for beings in the world of “Pursuit of heaven”. Prana is the energy that allows Samurai to perform many techniques that aid in fighting against opponents. Vibrations are the essence of prana and when an individual learns how to manipulate their vibrations they can learn how to use prana in various ways. (Prana is what vibrations are) Everyone in the world of “pursuit of heaven” has prana. It just takes practice/skill to learn how to manipulate. There are two types of Vibrations that can be potentially used: Physical/Soto/out: Physical vibrations. Spiritual/Noto/In: Spiritual vibrations. (Soto/Out) The utilization of Physical vibrations/prana allows an individual to strengthen their physical bodies for combat. To actually utilize Physical vibrations a samurai must know how to extract prana from their (atman/soul) by using the Nadi systems which are essentially networks in the atman that carry/hold prana. One must practice “Yama” which is a type of Meditation technique that allows an individual to extract prana from their atmanic pool, with the Nadi systems, and then to the Physical Body. By doing this an individual can boost their physical bodies power and speed drastically, the better an individual is at utilizing/flowing prana into their physical bodies, the stronger they can become physically. (Soto/out). The stronger an individual is physically the more endurance they will have while Using prana/Fighting, this is the primary reason why (Soto/out) is so important. (Noto/in) The utilization of Spiritual/atmanic vibrations is much more broad in terms of ability. To utilize Spiritual vibrations an individual just like (Soto/out), must know how to move prana through the Nadi pathways, but they must also know how to vibrate their (Atman/soul). (Noto/in) has two techniques that are essentially the umbrella factor for every power that can be used spiritually: Source prana/Riyu: Pure unchanged prana/varies from person to person. Shake prana/Shindo: Prana that has been changed/molded into magic by vibrating. (Riyu/Source prana) Riyu/source is essentially pure Prana/vibrations that an individual can materialize out of their atmanic pool with the Nadi systems. There are many techniques an individual can use with this pure prana (Riyu Techniques), this is the energy that allows every other spiritual technique to be used. (I’m not really done explaining “Riyu” as I hope to make it much more complex in the future.) Usually warriors that prefer to indulge in Hand to hand combat rather than Fighting from a distance will use “Riyu” (prana/vibrations) in its pure form more often than “shindo”. “Shake prana/Shindo” is a technique that a warrior can use to turn their Prana into a type of magic for fighting. Shindo: when a warrior vibrates their soul and connects to a synonymous realm with their prana, they can shape their prana into magic that the realm holds. Shindo is essentially the process of an individual vibrating their prana/atman and while resonating on the same frequency as an elemental plane, molding said prana into magic/the elemental power that the realm represents/holds. (So warriors are able to connect to a sub realm synonymous with their atmanic path with their Riyu/pure vibrations, and turn it into magic from the realm that they are resonating with.) More advanced explanation Shake prana/Shindo: Vibrational range/Vibrational magic/Shindo: The vibrational range of an individual is based on their atmanic path (where their atman was when it bloomed/up realm-(pengala) or lowrealm-(ida)) and also what elemental plane their atman is synonymous with. When an individual vibrates, (at the correct frequency as a sub realm their atman is synonymous with), (Noto/in) their atman connects to a realm/subrealm inside of their vibrational range, and allows them to mold their prana into magic that the realm holds, by vibrating their atman and connecting with said realm. This Technique of vibrating and molding prana is called “Shindo '' which means “vibrating”. There are many more techniques that were developed during the “warriors wind/Kaze period” which was a great era of pranayama technique development. “Shindo/Shake prana” and “Riyu/Source prana” are just the basics of the system. Blossom Form This is the ultimate power of pursuit of heaven that’s only achieved when an individual's vibrations are able to connect with their “Soul plant” and extract their atman into the real world by getting it to blossom. A blossom form in the world of “pursuit of heaven” is the form an individual reaches when they achieve “divine resonance/Kogoshi grade samurai”. In the world of “pursuit of heaven” atman is created when a “soul plant” from the “Soul wreath” binds to a suitable body on earth. This connection of the Soul plant and a body is what creates/links atman to an individual. To actually achieve a blossom form a warrior must achieve “divine resonance” which is the hardest power to acquire in the series. Having divine resonance is essentially the ability to resonate at the same level as your “soul plant” allowing an individual after many years of practice/vibrational mastery, to extract their soul plant and Blossom their atman into the real world. Blossom forms are extremely hard to achieve, only a handful of great warriors have been able to Become “Kogoshi Grade” warriors. Although it’s hard to achieve, everyone has the ability to achieve a blossom form. The entire system is about growth and self realization, the more in tune with yourself the higher your power.
I created a power system called, Zai and Oshi. Basically, they both rely on each other. Zai is energy, used to create, destroy and power. Oshi, is imagination, life force, amd the soul/spirit. Oshi is used to craft abilities, each representing the user in some way. If you have strong Oshi, your mental and physical training. Oshi requires Zai. Zai can be used to enhance physical abilities and manipulate matter, which is a basic ability of Zai. Thoughts can create a sudden change in Oshi - say you can turn any form of energy into flames, if you REALLY want to cause harm, those flames will be everburning. If you don’t have a care for anyone else, it will also spread endlessly. With a high potency release of Zai, you can cancel out abilities like that. Oshi is also a sort of energy able to interact with spirits or the human soul. People can have special mutations of the soul, causing their oshi to give abilities. Theese abilities can be already awakened or not. For example, i’ve already created a gift called 'Heaven’s eye'. This, mutates one of their users eyes, allowing it to view the entire course of history. It doesn’t require Zai either.
W description for the power system if you have a character with psychopathic mindset he will be broken but can I ask why is it called heavens eye if you’re able to view history I feel if it would make more sense calling “History’s Eye” or something along those eyes or is it a reason for It to be heaven’s eye ?
I disagree. In defense of soft magic: Soft magic basically magic with no clearly defined rules. From the example you used, Lord of the rings. I love soft magic because it is able to capture a sense of wonder that hard magic can not. The less we understand something, the more magical it feels. So yes, I think the magic in lord of the rings is fantastic and if you want my personal favorite example of soft magic read the first law trilogy.
I think the best magic system I saw was in Mistborn. I starts out pretty typical but later on in the series, it is used in crazy cool ways unlike any I have seen before.
Ima be real the best limit is kinda realistic: actual training, and a capacity to output; this way you get tons of variety but not anyone can do anything, this and a few other smaller or larger rules can be a good basis.
my one *MAJOR* gripe with not just the power system but worldbuilding of JJK in general, is the ubiquitous use of the term "curse" to such a degree that it becomes confusing, even when you *do* attempt to consider the word in the context it was used at the time. so frustrating, cos its so unnecessary
100% agree with you, what I really love about JJk and what makes JJK great is it's cool fight and power system and they have those edge / cool moment like bleach. and gege pull it off beautifully as JJK power system is great I agree what it misses is category of CT. example is gojo CT have Curse technique reversal while if we think about it what is geto curse technique reversal will be? but geto have maximum technique and yet sukuna didn't have both yet he have flame still like it but it would be nice if gege split CT into category like 1. Reversal technique CT in this category can use reversal technique and imaginary pros: learn reversal is easier compare to the other 2 category with a follow up of imaginary cons: weaker compare the other two category e.g: limitless, and gravity 2. maximum technique: pros: stronger than reversal technique cons: less versatile than reversal small to no drawback on cast e.g: curse manipulation, blood manipulation 3. divine technique: hardest of all probably harder than domain pros: super strong to the point you win if you use this move cons: huge drawback e.g: sukuna flame and mahoraga sukuna flame drawback: super long to cast short range and slow projectile, to be useful you you need something that will spoiler the series so I will not comment here mahoraga: you basically need to beat him first before you can use it and after that summon and mantain his form require ton of CT and mastery of Curse energy efficiency I know both are not stated to be divine technique but both got divine in their name and both super strong technique with huge drawback so if I were to categorize CT i will put both here
Jjk does have the best power system in my opinion, cause executed very greatly... unlike Hell's Paradise (in my opinion) is cool but they rushed the story too much that the system is getting more blurry for me to catch up on.
Yeah, those ones on the thumbnail are 100% imo the best HXH is complicated, but balanced Jojo gets an INCREDIBLE amount of use out of even seemingly insignificant powers And I’d say JJK is a mix of both, in that it’s pretty complex and is also used incredibly well
the perfect power system in all of anime/manga: Claymore (though, got to read the manga of course, to really get into all of its power system fully) nothing comes close to it at all, absolute perfection
For me,a good power system is a tree of power and it has branches.the power system should give limitstions and drawbacks to Busted abilities drawbacks and limitations that tone the broken technique of it down, and the weak or powers with bad use get not that much of a subtraction to their powers.the powers between the weak and the strong should be looked at and observed a lot
I think powersystems are best when they connect to the themes of the series, i think of recent on a large scale, my hero’s quirks and black clover’s magic have been the best power systems we’ve gotten. Both power systems make sense within the world and also add to the narrative i.e : quirk discrimination and bc’s magic tying into character development.
Another thing is variety and expansion of abilities within the system, we have the vermilion family who all use fire magic but all in different ways that reflect their character.
I think that’s where jjk falls flat, the abilities aren’t expanded on much. What you see is what you get and even with shared fighting styles like yuji and todo there isn’t much variety when similar moveset are available
And I don’t think jjk works as an energy system either. The psychological aspects of the system hold both back. Cursed energy is basically negative emotions yet that’s pretty much forgotten almost instantly by seemingly no one par yuji actually powers up because of negative emotions and the whole mathematical way they try explain cursed energy.. yeah… it makes no sense either practically. We have other energy powersystems like nen and chakra visually show us how the powers work while we see no demonstration of rct despite being shown how basic ct works in the body
Its not the power system thats the issue. Its the fact that Gege bluballs us with exploring his system outside of a few characters. I would have liked to see CTR from a lot more of the cast. He basically kills off everyone he can show that with.
Jujutsu kaisen is a more story driven manga than most so i can understand why gege wouldn’t add a bunch of ctr just for the sake of it being Cool and im pretty sure we will be seeing ctr again with Sukuna soon
@@s3eriousbl9ck26LMAO this is why nobody should take seriously the opinions of kids that have only watch children cartoons or read kids comic books. HxH is not a focused story, that's what the other guy was trying to say. The goal of HxH is "find your dad". Where's Gon's dad? Who knows? Gon has to wander the planet looking for him. HxH doesn't even have a central antagonist, the antagonists appear on the road while Gon is wandering looking for his dad. JJK is not like that. From the very beginning we all know what is happening, what will happen and how: Yūji ate Sukuna's finger, higher ups at Jujutsu world want to off-ing him, Gojo convince them to wait until gathering more fingers and then delete them for good, and we also know who the central antagonists are and what they want to do. There's no need nor justification for Yūji wandering around and Gege exploring the Jujutsu underworld and other powers. Everything is set up to begin quickly, unlike HxH where the very nature of Gon's quest allows Togashi to show the world..
I fundamentally disagree that cursed techniques are limited on creativity. the examples you brought up, gojo vs todo/jogo, are a direct application of the power system doing as it was designed to do. Gojo's technique is limitless, which by default gives him Blue and Infinity, the reason he has Red and Purple are the application of him using the reverse of Blue for Red, and combining them for Purple. Todo and Jogo could very well learn a reversal of their cursed technique, allowing for a Red/Purple of their own. The reason they dont have these are they simply arent skilled enough, and following the same train of thought thats why Jogo, a skilled disaster curse, has a domain expansion while Todo doesnt. It isnt limiting creativity, in fact its bolstering reader input by allowing them to think of what a characters reversal/domain expansion would be. What did Hanami's domain look like? What would Yuta's reversal technique be? its not as cut and dry as 'gojo do more than these guys', its the fact that hes blessed and skilled enough to be able to do more than those guys, who have the capacity to learn similar things to him if given enough room. anyway good video 👍
I think early on it’s kinda annoying because it lacks basic shared basic techniques we know and then can understand in every fight. Later on he does this and it’s great. Once rct and other techniques start to be used by the cast it’s great.
yeah, I don't like the notion of a perfect power system. If it works for your story and you know how to used to your advantage (as an author), then it's good.
My power system is called balance basically everything in this world has balance if there's a stron boy there's a weak boy if there's fast boy there's slow boy that's just balance and the reason it stays in balance is because of the cancel of equality these people put things in balance because in the universe when things are not in balance it allows these godly entities to shift balance in their odds and enter the universe so the cancel have to stop that so people in this world have something called ratio energy and they are hired the cancel to fight these entities and bring balance ratio energy can be used in various ways and it takes mathematics to use it very well like you can use ratio energy to shift mathematical balance in universe to do amazing things you can make nuclear explosions run faster than the speed of light run give yourself power buff my power system os really mathematical more mathematical than jjk so the mc was the weakest student in Japan but one day the strongest ratio energy user died the universe shifted giving the mc access to ratio energy so any suggestions on things to make the power systems more sensible and good
This sounds super cool, I’d love to see a manga on this! It’s super logical I could figure out what would happen when the world’s strongest ratio energy user died! 😊
You did not just call LOTR's power system 'Nonsense'. In writing, there are 'Hard' and 'soft' magic systems, both systems come with their own pros and cons and each has its strengths and reasons for use over one or the other. Any writer worth their salt understands this fundamental and can explain it more eloquently than your flippant comment. You are not qualified to be making videos like this. Instead, educate yourself further. Watch this series, hopefully, you can learn something. th-cam.com/video/iMJQb5bGu_g/w-d-xo.html "On Writing: hard magic systems in fantasy [ Avatar l Fullmetal Alchemist l Mistborn ]" th-cam.com/video/ZVrnfniQiS8/w-d-xo.html "On Writing: soft magic systems in fantasy [ Tolkien l Game of Thrones l Harry Potter ]"
i think jjk is at the same level like those two cuz one domain expansions and simple domain to survive in those domains can make up the type categorie thing and the technique to personality interlinking Ness make the characters shine more ,one power has layers like cutting tech. has cleave, dismantle and fuga or blue, red and purple. The power system also introduces additional mechanism of getting power like heavenly pact, binding pact , so in general S+ for me that also why it gotta the best fight i hv seen or read in any fiction
Jjk power system almost copy of hxh. Few difference is you have born with technique you can make it. Second difference is if you don't killed by curse power you become curse. Third difference is heavenly curse or pledge you can make to become stronger in a short time. Its way too easy to nake pledge in jjk compared to hxh. Fourth difference is there is no 6 type of nen. Jjk techniques are overpowered but hxh on the other hand has better balance and you have to work hard to earn it.
Fromm 10:30 forward, you stopped speaking logically and started to disguise your opinion as fact. I agree that Todo's clapping ability is overhyped both inside and outside the show, but that is more on its execution and less on the ability itself.
Fairy Tail power system bugs me. Example. Would Zeref be able to beat those random dragons that came out of the portal? I mean, you would think so because Dragneel thought that Acnologia was afraid of him and Zeref's magic is affective against Erza's mother. But, he doesn't use Dragon Slaying magic... so does that mean normal magic can indeed affect dragons? And, if so, is it just because of a power difference? And what about Demons? Why did Alteer need to use Iced Shell on Deliora when normal magic is enough? I mean, we see it with Erza literally beating the fuck out of Kyoka. And why is Demon Slaying magic affective against dragons?
Cursed energy as a system itself is probably second only to Nen in how expansive and nuanced it is There are so many theories and possible scenarios that can be made using these systems but JJK just doesn't explore these nuances enough that makes it lag behind a lot of other systems like Spiritual Pressure, Chakra, etc...
Hiro Mashima is pretty productive cuz he spouting out trash one after another, his story is bad (cuz too much Nakama Power) and also weird or just down right bad power system (Fairy Tail is just superpowered people punching each other)
I have a love - hate relationship with MHA’s Power System. On one hand, it has very clear defined limitations. On the other hand it feels very restrictive since most characters can do one thing. At the same time training a characters power is an important part of anime power systems, and MHA includes this very well. But on a 4th hand the downsides really don’t really every happen, yet they somehow restrict people from other things. There is very high accessibility and understandability. MHA’s whole power system is just a double edge sword. Every amazing part of it has a horrid part of it. I think that is more good than bad, but what does it mean to you?
Where would you rank cursed energy? How does it compare to other power systems?
B tier
Second to Nen only
number 5 in all animanga for me
the best
It's better than Stands and Nen, because with Cursed Energy you can actually throw hands, and not just exchange moves.
It’s really fucking good
Is aura even a power system? I never saw it as such
@@raindancejam9466 Yes, it is. On top of like 5 other power systems that are all poorly defined and do basically the same thing.
What is rwby?
I believe power systems should be creative and simple. For instance, I love One Piece powers because it’s really easy to follow, even with its set of rules. Devil fruits gives the user said ability while spicing things up with learning the other potential power known as Haki.
One piece has a terrible power system. There are no rules other than not being able to swim after you eat a df. everything else is asspull.
@@Dave_of_Mordor I disagree, there’s still limitations to one’s DF ability even when they’re awakened.
@@Dave_of_Mordor Yeah I feel ya on that. Maybe it’ll happen during the end?

1. BLEACH
2. HXH
3. JOJO
4. FMAB
5. JJK

Great video but my only issue with it and other power/magic system videos like this is that the title, and the content in the video, seem to suggest that there's only one way a power system can be "perfect" when, just like magic system, power system's have two types: Soft and Hard. And depending on the type of shonen being written, either have their own version of "perfect"
"Hard" meaning the system has a very strict set of rules and limitations all of which should generally be completely understood by the reader and can't really be broken as the series develops.
I'm not in anyway saying Quirks are better written than Curses, but i've found myself enjoying Quirks more recently becaise of its connection to the bigger picture of the story being
Devils from Chainsaw Man is similar to Cursed energy, but alot more simpler in the fact that a Devil's strenght is accurtely compareable to how much humans fear its name.
One thing that's inarguable is that both have strenghts which the other lacks, I'm hoping you can talk about some of these topics in the next video
Once again, great video, sorry for the essay
This is like the best comment and my main issue with this video as a whole. Nen and stands and quirks and alchemy and cursed energy are amazing power systems because they fit the overall themes and motifs and aesthetics of their series. If you swapped any one for the other (quirks in FMA, stands in JJK, etc.) then these series would completely fall flat or be completely different because they're all structurally and fundamentally different. You can't just say CE would be better if it were more like Nen or Stands. That's not really how writing works.
amazing comment i have a question . what is your favorite anime?
I like something in the middle. Just enough flexibility to let strange things happen whilst other things have clear rules
I love Fire Force's power system, it's so unique! Would love to see a video include that.
That is the KI difference!
Hahahahaha.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Some of my favorite powersystems are JJK, Bleach, Hakusho, HxH, and Naruto(before it got all whacky)

Yu Yu Hakusho is another good one

@@ShonenOuji if you think about it YYH definitely has a soft power system
I wish this video wasn’t so JJK centric, makes the title super misleading. You’re really just talking about why JJK’s power system is worth looking at, which is part of watching it.
I think it os important to say - JJK's power systems do actually have a lot of potential due to:
1) Binding vows
2) One's own understanding of the world
We can see how Gojo can use a binding vow to change the rules of his domain, how Nanami saves extra cursed energy for when it's needed, MeiMei sacrificing the crows and everything else - all of it is out there for each character to grasp and manipulate for their own gain.

My favorite part of JJK's power system is that its actually built on *the illusion of rules* rather than actually having strict rules for everything
Now what i mean about that is how in the Shibuya Arc Kenjaku and Mahito talking about how their techniques completely clash and contradict each other so Mahito puts out the idea they work on entirely different systems *then Kenjaku, the oldest and most experienced sorceror in JJK, agrees that cursed techniques are basically personal micro power systems under a general umbrella instead of being bound to one set of rules*
We also have it literally said and or showcased multiple times that Jujutsu higherups keep a very strict handle on what is and isn't proper in their traditionalist mindset which is literally stated when it says the heigherups don't like Kugisaki because her technique is outside of what they consider proper of their system
So its not a lack of creativity on the writing part its *a literal in universe stifling of creativity from the top down by a traditionalist government*
And we see this even more because the top tiers are the ones that actually think enough to go outside those norms, hell that is *literally Sukuna's entire fucking thing and why he's the strongest*
But we also see that with characters like Mei Mei, Kenjaku, all the special grades, and almost any other top tier sorceror or cursed spirits as well because with cursed spirits they were never beholden to societal restrictions or expectations in the first place 😂
Also my guy did you really say Todo and Jogo can't do much? Thats literally your lack of creativity my guy holy fuck 😅
That's what i'm sayin. Todo has one ability, but he uses it creatively and very well. And jogo has like 3 different techniques, wtf
Potential to create conflict: Make some way for it to cause conflict beyond just: "I wanna kill this guy."
For example: Maybe the characters have to rely on someone else as a conduit for their magic and overuse of them could seriously hurt or kill them, they could be held hostage as bargaining power even against the coldest most heartless people because losing their conduit means losing their power.
Diversity: If everyone is throwing the same generic energy blasts at each other, fights quickly become stale.
Create unique variants of it with different strengths and weaknesses and don't spam it so much, make use of rare magic actually rare so when it's seen it's special.

The lotm pathway system is definitely one of the best power systems in fiction
Not many of the Nen categories allow for spectacular moves, but as the story progresses there are more and more characters with cool looking skills and it feels as if Togashi has to stretch the system just to allow them to exist.
sukuna is straight up the strongest and his ct is basically just slashes.
OP and good power system doesn't go well.

I'm starting to write my dream manga and I've been stressing about the power system, this video actually helped a lot
What's it about?

10:36 hxh nen abilities are made, not decided from birth
Yup, characters themselves forge those NEN abilities through their understanding of it and the contracts they make and how they bargain getting power.
I mean, you don't choose your Nen category. You take the test to find out which category you belong to and from there, you create your powers.
@@Fake_level_5but just like Kurapika, you can make Nen contracts to go around that limitation of what you're born with.

Non innate techniques are more interesting than innate ones. Because it lets you see someone’s preference for a domain barrier, someone’s ability to balance their ct with Domain Amplification, and Cursed energy manipulation in general is pretty fascinating based on how it’s described
Making the power system simplistic makes it so much easier to understand. You can really go crazy on what abilities can be made after
I believe Nen was pretty much the best we’ve seen so far in pretty much any shonen.
I prefer more technical powersystem in general like JJK, but i love abstract abilites and crazy sceneios like Jojos.
if you like technical power systems watch hxh, nen is easily the most in-depth power system ive ever seen and the amount of stuff you can do with it is genuinely insane, its VERY applicable. like one thing i love abt nen is you could basically take anyones power from any piece of media ever and adapt it into a nen ability in some way or another.
a simple one is todo from jjk, teleportation is under high-level emission so you could have him be an emitter and make an ability where the activation condition is clapping, and the self-imposed limitation is it can only swap positions (him or others) rather than any kind of teleportation, and it only works on something that has aura
Bro did not need to Diss LOTR like that
Jjk cursed energy is pretty great, mainly because of how open it is.

@@abdooljackson1399 bro I love Naruto and I've watched so many vids about it. There's a ton. Nothing very story breaking just annoying.
Can you talk about soft power systems
I really like the power system in a manhwa called unordinary
we all know parkour civilization has the best power system
I think one of the things that makes nen so good is that a character could in theory use only the general applications of nen without ever creating a technique of their own and still be a serious threat in-verse if they master those applications.
Pursuit of Heaven Power system:
“Pursuit of heaven” takes place in a world where samurai utilize an energy known as “Prana” to fight against each other and other worldly beings.
Vibrations are the essence of Prana, and depending on a person's soul/spirit, their prana will either be low frequency prana/low vibrations or high frequency prana/high vibrations, the vibrations an individual has will dictate their Magical Affinities/Associations.
Prana/Atman/Nadi systems/Shindo:
Prana is the most important component for beings in the world of “Pursuit of heaven”. Prana is the energy that allows Samurai to perform many techniques that aid in fighting against opponents. Vibrations are the essence of prana and when an individual learns how to manipulate their vibrations they can learn how to use prana in various ways. (Prana is what vibrations are)
Everyone in the world of “pursuit of heaven” has prana. It just takes practice/skill to learn how to manipulate.
There are two types of Vibrations that can be potentially used:
Physical/Soto/out: Physical vibrations.
Spiritual/Noto/In: Spiritual vibrations.
(Soto/Out)
The utilization of Physical vibrations/prana allows an individual to strengthen their physical bodies for combat.
(Noto/in)
The utilization of Spiritual/atmanic vibrations is much more broad in terms of ability. To utilize Spiritual vibrations an individual just like (Soto/out), must know how to move prana through the Nadi pathways, but they must also know how to vibrate their (Atman/soul). (Noto/in) has two techniques that are essentially the umbrella factor for every power that can be used spiritually:
Source prana/Riyu: Pure unchanged prana/varies from person to person.
Shake prana/Shindo: Prana that has been changed/molded into magic by vibrating.
(Riyu/Source prana)
Riyu/source is essentially pure Prana/vibrations that an individual can materialize out of their atmanic pool with the Nadi systems.
(So warriors are able to connect to a sub realm synonymous with their atmanic path with their Riyu/pure vibrations, and turn it into magic from the realm that they are resonating with.)
More advanced explanation
Shake prana/Shindo:
Vibrational range/Vibrational magic/Shindo: The vibrational range of an individual is based on their atmanic path (where their atman was when it bloomed/up realm-(pengala) or lowrealm-(ida)) and also what elemental plane their atman is synonymous with.
Blossom Form
This is the ultimate power of pursuit of heaven that’s only achieved when an individual's vibrations are able to connect with their “Soul plant” and extract their atman into the real world by getting it to blossom.
Triton in world trigger is a s-tier power system
My top 3 favorite shows in one thumbnail, perfection 🤌
based anime watcher,based explaination,based video.

I don't think the video clowned on soft systems did it?
Ima be real the best limit is kinda realistic: actual training, and a capacity to output; this way you get tons of variety but not anyone can do anything, this and a few other smaller or larger rules can be a good basis.
I wanna start my own manga but im really bad at drawing😔
But you are a good writer right?m
Then just start and you’ll get better.
We've ascended beyond ranking power users next to each other; now we rank the quality of their power systems next to each other
my one *MAJOR* gripe with not just the power system but worldbuilding of JJK in general, is the ubiquitous use of the term "curse" to such a degree that it becomes confusing, even when you *do* attempt to consider the word in the context it was used at the time. so frustrating, cos its so unnecessary
Could that just be bad translations?
100% agree with you, what I really love about JJk and what makes JJK great is it's cool fight and power system and they have those edge / cool moment like bleach. and gege pull it off beautifully
as JJK power system is great I agree what it misses is category of CT.
example is gojo CT have Curse technique reversal while if we think about it what is geto curse technique reversal will be? but geto have maximum technique
and yet sukuna didn't have both yet he have flame
still like it but it would be nice if gege split CT into category like
1. Reversal technique CT in this category can use reversal technique and imaginary
pros: learn reversal is easier compare to the other 2 category with a follow up of imaginary
cons: weaker compare the other two category
e.g: limitless, and gravity
2. maximum technique:
pros: stronger than reversal technique
cons: less versatile than reversal
small to no drawback on cast
e.g: curse manipulation, blood manipulation
3. divine technique: hardest of all probably harder than domain
pros: super strong to the point you win if you use this move
cons: huge drawback
e.g: sukuna flame and mahoraga
sukuna flame drawback: super long to cast short range and slow projectile, to be useful you you need something that will spoiler the series so I will not comment here
mahoraga: you basically need to beat him first before you can use it and after that summon and mantain his form require ton of CT and mastery of Curse energy efficiency
I know both are not stated to be divine technique but both got divine in their name and both super strong technique with huge drawback so if I were to categorize CT i will put both here
Jjk does have the best power system in my opinion, cause executed very greatly... unlike Hell's Paradise (in my opinion) is cool but they rushed the story too much that the system is getting more blurry for me to catch up on.
Yeah, those ones on the thumbnail are 100% imo the best HXH is complicated, but balanced
Jojo gets an INCREDIBLE amount of use out of even seemingly insignificant powers
And I’d say JJK is a mix of both, in that it’s pretty complex and is also used incredibly well
You know HXH power system is good cause every power in anime can be explained and done through Nen
the perfect power system in all of anime/manga:
Claymore (though, got to read the manga of course, to really get into all of its power system fully)
nothing comes close to it at all, absolute perfection
For me,a good power system is a tree of power and it has branches.the power system should give limitstions and drawbacks to Busted abilities drawbacks and limitations that tone the broken technique of it down, and the weak or powers with bad use get not that much of a subtraction to their powers.the powers between the weak and the strong should be looked at and observed a lot
Hxh is one of my favorite power systems. Very easy to understand when the teacher broke it down. My favorite is devil fruit powers and haki tho
Jujutsu kaisen is a more story driven manga than most so i can understand why gege wouldn’t add a bunch of ctr just for the sake of it being Cool
and im pretty sure we will be seeing ctr again with Sukuna soon

@@xiiir838wow looks like someone didn’t read Hxh 🙃
Imagine if combine between power systems from another it would make more destructive power
I think early on it’s kinda annoying because it lacks basic shared basic techniques we know and then can understand in every fight. Later on he does this and it’s great. Once rct and other techniques start to be used by the cast it’s great.
Could someone help with my manga I’m kinda stuck with the story
I can help you.
I think one key part of a power system is how it reflects the theme of the story and how the story uses it
yeah, I don't like the notion of a perfect power system.

Nen cursed energy and stands on top
Nah that's Nen from Hunter X Hunter, Jjk literally took inspiration from it
@@anishchoudhury8537agreed.
Great video .i think you coult talk about narutos power sydtem and compare it to jojo or hxh or jjk.
That dig at lotr seemed personal, which is weird because you seemed to have not even read lotr if that’s your take on how it’s magic works.
I like simple hard magic system like FMA,
yalls should tell me your power system (i alr did mine dont ask when or how)
The pokémons are perfect😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nen and cursed energy are very similar
Toaru Majutsu no Index >
Did you actually read lord of the rings? It's magic is very nuanced and grounded
This was all just about jjk
Watch World Trigger and check the power system
i think jjk is at the same level like those two cuz one domain expansions and simple domain to survive in those domains can make up the type categorie thing and the technique to personality interlinking Ness make the characters shine more ,one power has layers like cutting tech. has cleave, dismantle and fuga or blue, red and purple. The power system also introduces additional mechanism of getting power like heavenly pact, binding pact , so in general S+ for me that also why it gotta the best fight i hv seen or read in any fiction
What about dragon ball?
@@Maab134dragon ball is whoever gets the latest bs power up and boom your stronger than others
Plus I think he missed the fact that cursed energy itself can have a type.
Like kashimo's cursed energy (electric) and Hakari's cursed energy.
Avatar the last airbender has a perfect power system
Jjk power system almost copy of hxh. Few difference is you have born with technique you can make it. Second difference is if you don't killed by curse power you become curse. Third difference is heavenly curse or pledge you can make to become stronger in a short time. Its way too easy to nake pledge in jjk compared to hxh. Fourth difference is there is no 6 type of nen. Jjk techniques are overpowered but hxh on the other hand has better balance and you have to work hard to earn it.
Nen is easily the best, and Cursed Energy is watered down Nen.
give HxH jjk animation and it will be one of the best anime ever
not perfect but feels interesting
The amount of asspulling jjk has been doing lately puts it under dbzs ki system tbh
Fromm 10:30 forward, you stopped speaking logically and started to disguise your opinion as fact. I agree that Todo's clapping ability is overhyped both inside and outside the show, but that is more on its execution and less on the ability itself.
hxh make you believe that theres a way to become something like that, most of power sistems wont
3:45 ??
00:59 kakashi
And why is Demon Slaying magic affective against dragons?
when you talked about dragon ball, you had the opportunity for an ultimate dad joke. "that, is the *ki* difference"
just saying. or saianing 😂
I will be stealing this, respectfully.
Cursed energy as a system itself is probably second only to Nen in how expansive and nuanced it is
There are so many theories and possible scenarios that can be made using these systems but JJK just doesn't explore these nuances enough that makes it lag behind a lot of other systems like Spiritual Pressure, Chakra, etc...
