I LOVE Blackbeard's introduction. In a way, it is telling the audience, "Yeah, these two are very similar... but cannot be more different." Their attitudes are the same towards the meals and for dreams... but their opinions and ideals are vastly different. Blackbeard is the PERFECT foil for Luffy.

I love how Oda chose to let Blackbeards eyes remain round like Luffys. Most of the time the eyes of serious characters or villains tend to be more narrow like a predators, but not for Blackbeard.

Personally I like the introduction of King Bradley from fullmetal alchemist brotherhood because at first he seems like a good guy he is a central figure in the story nobody suspects him to be evil while he is secretly working for Father. I also like Undertaker's introduction from black butler because when he first appears he seemed like a creepy side character who is obsessed with coffins wants to laugh but later on he is revealed to be the strongest grim reaper being able to make Sebastian scared and has a past with the phantomhives.

King Bradley's introduction is so good. I was suspicious of him at first just because of what I associate his title with, but then I started to like him and think "this guy isn't so bad," then the anime was like Sike! This guy's evil.

The reason why Aizen is my favourite villain is cause he's not in just one of these categories , He's the crazy calculated guy , he showed the true levels of power and how he's miles stronger compared the protagonist , he tricks his own former captain as his part of experiment , he is a crazy guy , he doesn't care about any relations he had for centuries , he doesn't care who it is , he's obsessed with changing the functioning of the world , he ruins lives of people just cause he's bored or as a part of experiment , Ichigo bluntly put is his experiment to create a transcendent being who could challenge him when he himself succeeds , as said by ichigo himself after aizen's defeat is that he was lonely since he was a child , all Aizen wanted was someone to challenge him and his ideology on his way , the only man who was greater than him in intelligence (urahara) was laid back and never came back , he wanted someone else to challenge his ideology and be equal to him in strength , that's why he created Ichigo , he oversaw ichigo's whole life to see his growth, he was crazy obsessed with his experiment like a mad scientist while also doing everything to fool Soul society for years

I’m writing an anime-style story, and the villain introduction was something I worked very hard on. Throughout the first book, the protagonists are introduced. It focuses on a romance plot, but something is off about it the whole time. The girl’s grandfather was an incredibly powerful mage who had nearly succeeded in taking over the world before he literally died from being too powerful for his physical body. It sets this unusually dark feel for a high fantasy romance novel, and even drives the girl to near suicide. Then, book two comes around. The girl’s father figure reveals he’s been trying to resurrect her grandfather from the dead, and he uses her magic to make it work. With all the set up from book one, it’s a moment that inspires fear. The girl’s first response is to try and kill him, but he basically shrugs it of and gives her a slap across the face like he’s a parent instead of reacting to the fact she tried to kill him. He then takes her boyfriend hostage and steps outside. The following scene is one where he decimates half of her home town all by himself. Then, he points at the other half and tells her, “Your turn.” By far one of my favorite intros I’ve made, and I’ve made a few.

This was a cool look into how a villain makes an introduction and how villains are written, this gives me a good relook into just what these villains are like. I got to say I always enjoy it when a villain displays their skills and shows off why the characters and us the audience should fear and tremble at their might. I can't wait for your future villain videos and it would be cool to see videos on stuff outside of anime as well. Awesome video Axel~!!

You know I'm going to say. villain characters are about as interesting as hero characters. I think what makes it even more of an interesting trope for a villain. is using that villain as a main character like overlord for example the main character ain't a good guy he's a pinnacle of the undead. he torments humans for nothing more but selfish ideals for his own purposes. villains are a very interesting concept.

@oxqvvs Doflamingo is a pure psychopath. No matter what kind of backstory he had, he would’ve turned out as some sort of serial killer. His reason is justifiable through no morally good perspective. The others have a bit of good intent in their reasons, but Doflamingo, nah. Still, he’s an absolutely phenomenal villain, I ain’t saying him not having a justifiable reason makes him a bad villain, not at all. It doesn’t lessen his character in any sort of way

    Great Video!!!
One thing to this day I will never understand, is how someone who is master class in writing antagonists, Kishimoto, could screw up Madara so badly.
While how he went out, was resonant with his themes of distrust, and inability to lead, its the execution which was the issue. Had we known more about Black Zetsu and there were hints to him having alternative motives, the scene would've been completely fine, but we didn't. It was revealed after the betrayal, so it felt retconned. Including Kaguya, there were very few issues I had with the series, but it is still in my top 5 manga, even though I didn't grow up with it. I will never regret picking it up, and how there is so much hate surrounding it, ironic given one of the key themes of the story being hatred, is beyond me.
I will never get an answer to whether Kaguya was on Kishimotos behalf, or the publishing company's for wanting to continue the story for money, since Kishimoto isn't allowed to speak bad of Shueisha, because he still works for them.

One thing I do love about the Madara fight isn't all the super combat or that awesome fucking "What will you do about the second one?" line.
It's just that moment where he looks back and forth a few times to analyze what's going on. Which kind of shows he's not just some magical entity with infinite ability to know everything and avoid moves by near future sight. But it shows he actually is still trying. It seems effortless but I think that moments shows he still have to pay attention to everything that's happening around him to still succeed.
I just thought that part was pretty cool to show how he still has to keep his senses about him rather than being so strong that swords just deflect off of him and he doesn't even have to really try.

I adore the Blackbeard introduction. For everything you mentioned and more. Blackbeard is the antithesis for every character he fights in some way or another. Ace vs Blackbeard, ace is the brightness of fire, Blackbeard is pure darkness; Blackbeard Vs Whitebeard, black Vs white; spoilers for what’s happening recently in the manga, but now the fight between law and Blackbeard, where you have a crew with only one devilfruit user, vs a crew where everyone is a devilfruit user. As well as, they all have something in common, for every fight Blackbeard had, it’s all against members of the will of D. it’s so interesting when you start thinking about all this opposition and connection, Blackbeard is such an amazing villain

Love the mention of the hero vilian! Working on somethings like that for the jrpg part of the big game I'm writing.
First, and antagonist, is the leader of the church. If you choose to not commit genocide on what he calls "demons" you will defeat him.
Second is the hero of legend, (not you. You aren't that special) who you can challenge to win the title hero, but dying here will have a game over instead of a death.
Third isn't an antagonist, you can never really defeat it, just manage its influence over others. Top 3 inspirations are Flowey from Undertale, Hylean/the crystal from FFXIV, and the Ideal Masters from Elder Scrolls. This is part of the horror aspect this game has, and I'm super excited for!

Two villains I'd like to mention are garou from one punch man and zagred from black clover. Black clover has a few really good villain introductions but I'm gonna go with zagred because he's appeared in the anime. Garou's introduction was just brutal and badass. He shows up out of nowhere, says he's gonna be a monster and take out the heroes, and then slaughters everyone in the room. The scene where he ripped off the blue fire guys arm was just incredible to show how dangerous he is.
Zagred's introduction was truly amazing though. Him being the cause for the entire elf massacre and pretty much everything leading up to that moment was a complete curveball. From the moment the elf he was impersonating started acting off, everything was tense. There was such an unnerving feeling, and then he got his body and the design alone gave me chills at first. It just screams "evil". And then he immediately reveals one of the most op powers we had seen up until then. He could say anything and it would happen. Two really great villains imo

You know, I typically like the way they introduce the next villain in DC Conan. Now, the problem is that the story is so slow that it takes several years for these stories to be resolved, but it's always done well. The way they introduced Vermouth for example, playing a prank on Gin who is the face of the organization at this point. Or just the way they introduce Kir just by her calling a number. Or other organization members in the same special episode (which is more like a movie) where it looks like they are assassinating someone etc. I really hope that at some point, after it ended that someone will take that story and re-release it with actual pacing. Because it's really well done when you don't have to wait for years for the next thing to happen.

Shockingly enough the most memorable villain intro for me was from a damn sports anime. Revealing Akashi for the first time in Kuroko no basket was surprisingly chilling mostly because you’re seeing it through the lens of an ordinary freshman meeting the most impressive players who we’ve seen in action the past seasons. It made seeing the leader of these ridiculous characters, who responded to his summons immediately and without question, far more impactful. The character himself did not disappoint, straddling the line between impressive and borderline insane. That line is where I like my villains, not crazy but outside the borders of common sense.

I think Digimon did a good job of introducing their villains, especially in early series! The way Devimon seeps out from the shadows, how Etemon loudly and bombastically whirls onto the scene, the dark mystery of Myotismon, then the overwhelming brute force of the Dark Masters! 02, Ken's manipulations, forcing good Digimon to do his bidding before creating his own abomination in Chimeramon, which we later learn is jus maintaining the cycle of Milleniumon's birth through his jogress with the Dark Master, Machinedramon, and then Arukenimon and Mummymon and Aikawa, although MaloMyotismon was out of nowhere, they did do a fine job teasing us with Dagomon and it's only a shame we never got more out of Daemon! The 12 Devas were more antagonists than villains, although, tell me how you could do it better than a giant winged armour-clad tiger who kicks Kyubimon and Gargomon to the curb! I would say that Frontier doesn't get as much love as it deserves, but the buildup of Lucemon as this great ancient evil that the 10 Legendary Warriors could only seal away, only for him to manipulate not jus one, but two Royal Knights into serving him and aiding in his return, only for him to kick seven bells out of everyone who dares stand before him! Kurata was more cartoonish, but we enjoyed him getting his comeuppance all the same! And then we have Bagramon, the Leviathan and the Great Catastrophe from the next three series... I haven't gotten round to Ghost Game and I'm near the end of Adventure 2020 and I still need to finish Appmon!

i truly want to talk about the great build up that is to one of the best villian (my opinion) from the great (my opinion) manga Megaka Box. And that is how like through all the character growth and adventures that Medaka had early in the series - this powerful and unstoppable women, that is always this absolute menacing memory of hers about the only person that she couldnt help, and who really brought the worst in her. I want to mention Kumagawa Misogi. Throughout the first two arcs he is a nightmare from the past, and when he comes into light - when you see the face of Medaka in fear and shock and then his absolutly stupid happy-go-lucky smile, at that moment you feel how truly monstrous he is.

Another one interesting thing about Bondrewd. He is not a evil, thing he does to childrens is fucked up yes, but this experements are actually helping to save lives. You can call him a monster, but you cant just trow away a fact, that he found a way to deceive the Abyss rules from floor under him, with those containers he created humans can actually climb back without turning into monsters.
He is one of most memorable characters really, he is scary, he is interesting, and he is in a leage of his own

I wish you would've talked about my goat kizaru. Who arguably has the best introduction for a villian in a writing stand point. The straw hats were at the highest high, as you kept mentioning for others. The strawhats just beat another warlord, about to travel to the new world, and even punched a celestial dragon. The admirals have been hyped up so much through out the story, even meeting one which only let the straw hat pirates go, because he wanted to. Kizaru shows up to the island on a cannon ball, before demolishing the supernova who are portrayed to be luffy's rivals/equals. Then he targets the crew, Kizaru completely overpowering the crew, pinning Zoro to the ground seconds away from killing him. Until the right hand man of the pirate king stops him, Kizaru is the first time luffy and the crew tasted aboustle defeat. Luffy was even sobbing, pleading his crew to run. But ultimately one by one, with the help of sentomaru kizaru and kuma luffy at that moment thinks hes lost his crew. All of this ultimately lead to the admirals eventually killing luffys brother infront of him, which completely changed luffy. They stripped luffy's will from him, and only thanks to jinbe was he able to get it together. Kizaru is also the reason why luffy had to train for 2 years.

In bondrewd defense, the guy did nothing wrong according to his own moral compass, and anything he did to those children he would just as easily have done to himself if that had been an option: At that point in the story, he had already experimented so much on himself the abyss didn't even recognise him as human anymore
He genuinely considers them as his children and thinks he's giving them a fair (and enviable...) chance at being part of scientific progress, something he consider a true honour

Light's first episode was actually quite bone chilling to me. The lighting in the scene where he talks to Ryuk about his plan reminds me alot of a Shonen hero's "I want" speech, but he's talking about murder and wanting to be worshiped as a god. Also his quick dismissal of how his actions could possibly be evil because he's "a hard working honor student and one of Japan's best and brightest."
The full first episode perfectly establishes his motivations, philosophy, and character. He's the kind of evil who'd convince you he's good. He's everything society values and he's so twisted.
I know this is kind of basic, but I just love Death Note so much.

Exactly how you felt about Kaguya, is how I felt about Madara. (And kayuga though, but as soon as she was introduced I bounced because it was crazy bad) just because we had heard about him before doesn’t mean I acknowledged it as foreshadowing, especially since Obito was playing as Madara. Obito wa snot a crazy reveal because everyone suspected it, but I believed him to be a better villain or at least introduction. We saw him in the background whether we noticed it or not, we saw who committed those crimes and how they evolved the story, it was very very clearly planned and made sense. We never saw Obitos body when he ‘died’. For me, it was a better read then seeing Madara just enter a war and then die almost immediately.
I don’t believe he writes good villains with good reasons either. Pain, I’d say is more an anti|hero. And Danzo was just a waste of my goddamn time.

Always felt villains are much easier to work with in writing because you don't need to take care to alienate your audience as much as you do with heroes.
Villains can be uncompromising, brutal and irredeemable to an extreme. You can make them larger than life, a marry sue without the backlash and just the smartest person in the room, all because everyone knows on some level that they'll lose. For every cunning plan or asspull, the audience will almost always allow it in a way heroes could never get away with.
A villain I feel is where you can best see the writer let loose. Getting to do what they're normally never allowed to which is what I feel makes them so fun to watch.
Also why when I see a boring villain I tend to shut off with a series. It feels like such a wasted opportunity and until that villain is hopefully replaced I sort of tune out whenever that bad villain is on screen.

I really like the intro of both sir crocodile and hisoka, both are so great at convaying their danger and character.
An friezer i guess, he is such a good villain,
I think a good thing for a villain to have some trait, that unles they are a force of nature one, hae something human, positive or negative, like a villain can be human in being the worst way.
unless they are just a fun bad guy lik gouma , which i love, but he isnt the main villain and hasnt to carry that much thematic weight. Ok he dos fit very well with shinous tht tries to vcare an o seem cold and dos care whil he is the opposite, so i guess he is as that villain.
Its oppoing, aharing or mirroring the protags theme.

Ah, anime villains. I've seen some good cartoon villains, but for the most part, anime ones tend to be better-rounded. Cartoon villains nowadays try to emulate whatever is popular, some going the route of redeeming villains (My Little Pony and Steven Universe), some not giving the series any villains at all (modern Disney), or some where the writers are fighting each other so much that they can't make up their minds what they want to do with a villain (Miraculous Ladybug).
The same can't be said for anime villains. Yes, there are some sympathetic villains, but they rarely wind up getting redeemed (and in the rare case that they do, they usually become anti-heroes.)
I have a lot of favorite anime villains, so I'll break down my favorites by type:
-Anti-hero: Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh: Kaiba starts out as a selfish jerk with trust issues around everyone (including his own brother, his only remaining blood relative) who values winning over everything because he was taught by his abusive stepfather that "to lose means to die", only for Yami Yugi to make him realize (through the Mind Crush penalty game) that he has to remember what means the most to him (i.e. Mokuba). He still acts like a jerk who hurls insults at people (especially Jonouchi/Joey), but he respects people who earned it (i.e. Yugi and Yami Yugi), acknowledges a worthy adversary, and repays debts.
-Anti-villain: Zagato from Magic Knight Rayearth - On the surface, Zagato seems to be the "big bad" that the three heroes have to defeat to save Princess Emeraude. However, it is revealed that Emeraude imprisoned herself because she was in love with Zagato and Zagato only wants to defeat the heroes to save Emeraude because he loves her back.
-Manipulative villain: Akio Ohtori from Revolutionary Girl Utena - Much like how Kyubey deconstructs your typical "magical animal sidekick" trope found in most magical girl anime, Akio deconstructs the prince trope found in a lot of fairy tales. Akio starts out as a charismatic man who can have any girl (and guy) he wants at his finger tips and even manages to fool Utena (the protagonist) at first. However, it is revealed that Akio is the corrupt half of Dios, the prince who saved Utena as a child and that the only reason the duels exist is because Anthy sacrificed herself to save Dios...only for him to turn on her in the worst way possible. It's all a twisted game to him that is rigged in his favor (with the intent of regaining his god-like power) and thanks to his emotional manipulation of Anthy, he probably would have won if Utena hadn't come along (meaning Anthy would have stayed the rose bride forever and suffered at her brother's hands.)
-Tragic villain: Tomura Shiguraki from My Hero Academia - At first, Shiguraki seems like a typical anime antagonist and the second in command to All For One. However, it's revealed that he became a villain due to a combination of childhood trauma and manipulation on All For One's part.
-Secret villain: Drosselmeyer from Princess Tutu - If Sailor Moon and Yu-Gi-Oh were the two anime that got me interested, then Cowboy Bebop and Princess Tutu are the two that made me love the medium. Much like Revolutionary Girl Utena and Puella Madoka Magica, Princess Tutu destructs your typical magical girl and fairy tale tropes. However, it does so in a way that makes its own story and one of the biggest contributions to this is Drosselmeyer. The Raven is the big bad of the story that everyone is trying to defeat while Princess Kraehe serves as an intimidating rival to Princess Tutu who works under the Raven, but Drosselmeyer is the one pulling all the strings because it turns out he's the author of the unfinished book everyone is trapped in called "The Prince and the Raven." When Drosselmeyer seems like a funny old man, he is actually a trahedian, a sadist, and a puppet master who is determined to turn his story into the ultimate tragedy. He almost succeeds, until the characters defy their fates and this is largely due to him making the mistake of pulling Duck into the story in the first place.

It's a crime that nobody mentions Legato Bluesummers from Trigun (1998). The very second he appears on screen petting that little girl and threatening to kill her in front of Vash is terrifying, even more so after he just leaves a decapitated head in a bag and frames him for it. You know the show isn't going to be the same lighthearted action comedy it was up to that point.
Another great and more underrated one is The Hakumen no Mono from Ushio and Tora, the only thing we get to see from them up to that point is other Yokai telling Ushio about how scary they are through legends, but when the titular boy and Yokai duo travel a thousand years into the past during the Chinese dynasty, they see first hand from the moment the Chinese women contort and puke him up in this body horror type way before brutally murder all the swordsmiths, including Girou and Jie Mei's loved ones which Ushio desperately tries to avoid to no avail, which in turn sparks Girou's madness arc leading into the equally haunting creation of the Beast Spear, aswell as Tora facing it off in a fire-breathing contest for selfish reasons because a tiger demon couldn't care less about humans getting massacred.

Kaguya's sudden introduction kinda makes sense if you think about it. Black zetsu wanted to bring back Kaguya hence he planned it in such a way so that no one would suspect anything. Hence, Kaguya felt like such a sudden villain. Although, it is a matter of fact thather arrival was not a plot twist but a plot device/hole. Kishimoto definetly did not plan Kaguya's arrival. It's just me trying to make a little sense out of her arrival.

Kishimoto has quite literally said he wrote himself into a cor error with madara, panicked, and made kaguya. It can make sense, it's still bad.
