@@MikeJones-in3uk I did mine and it is now a white roof. I put two coats on it of elastomeric coating (Black Jack) which lessens the heat on it in summertime. When it dries on the roof it stays well intact even with heavy winds.
For what it's worth, and I would expect a contractor to know this, a shingle roof system is supposed to breathe through the keyways between the shingles. The proper approach would be to seek out any leaks and spot repair them correctly. Then, any coating applied would go on the shingles (to preserve them), without making a major effort to fill in the keyways. What you have done is created a situation where the roof sheathing will not dry (and thus rot), when you do have inevitable leakage.
i see this repeated a lot and i do know that is the way shingles are supposed to work, yet i see as many solid roofs as i do shingle roofs. so if you use roll roofing it doesn't breathe yet has worked for many years on roofs with little or no pitch, i see plenty of rubber type membrane roofs that don't breathe and they last for years, so it makes me wonder if it really hurts to seal your shingles or is it a ploy by the roofers to keep you from stopping a shingle roof from leaking instead of buying a new one.

@@MikeJones-in3uk Stuff I ended up using is white before and after it dries. This stuff in the video is elastomeric which is ok but not as good as using 100% silicone roof sealant. They don't recommend using these sealants on pitched shingle roofs but I did it anyway. I used Henry Tropi- Cool 100% silicone white on my 35° pitched asphalt shingle roof. Applied it last summer and it's holding up fine. It's incredible how much cooler it is inside. And all the snow just slides off after it builds up a few inches within a day or two. I used a 3/4" and 1" nap roller. Gotta be careful not to put too much on cuz it will drip and sag. There are a few spots here and there where the top shingles rests on the underneath shingles that aren't sealed, but pretty much everything is and water won't run uphill anyway. I may go back and seal those few places with the Henry 100% silicone thick patch paste stuff this summer. I got both from Home Depot. Costs $250 for a 5 gallon jug. If you buy eight of em you'll save money money 💰💵. The one gallon can of the Henry thick silicone roof patch is about $70 dollars. It's rain safe after just 15-30 minutes of drying. Fully dry and walk safe after a couple days. It's very slippery to walk on when it's gotten wet from raining or snow!! BE CAREFUL! When it's all dry on the roof it's much less slippery, wear a good grippey pair of shoes. Hope this helps 🙏
THANK you . A small part of my roof was leaking few days back. I ended up using Henry 812 roof saver clear from home depot . Rolled and painted on the shingles this morning . Lets hope no more leakes in that area. It goes on white and dries clear.
don't really want to get too involved because im certainly no expert on these products, but ive been looking for something to help on my roof and all i read says elastomeric will not stick to silicone and to never use either one on the other. i only read this on the instructions for the product, i did not use it and find out so haters pay attention to what i said.
