You're definetely better at the game than me and I've been playing on the hardest trade difficulty and have found it really easy. Mostly just because it's so easy to fleece certain quality players off the AI though, so if you can limit yourself from clearly undervalued players (I cannot) it would probably be fine
Ha, I wouldn't assume I am better than you at this game. Are you playing with hard mode on? I agree without hard mode, bumping up the difficulty was necessary, but so far have found it fairly reasonable to leave default with hard mode turned on.
At some point when I have inclination, encouragement, and my voice (which I've lost to a cold), I should do a tutorial on making changes to the game world and league structures as well as the settings. I've just finished the inclusions to the world_default.xml and schools.xml files; the next part is to generate the players that populate my fictional world. There's often a Thanos-style finger snap at that point, as the game usually generates too many players...
One thing I switched to for injuries a couple years ago (probably around when they split into Short- and Long-Term settings) is to keep Normal for Long-Term but use High Realistic Modern Day for Short-Term. I find its a nice mix of testing the depth of the roster with minor injuries at a realistic pace without quite as many major injuries that can sideline a season (or career!).
Only other thing I add is roster limits in MILN. AAA and AAA 28 players and no pro limit, A+ and Single A 30 players and 5 years max pro service limit and Rookie and DSL 35 players and 4 years max pro limit.
Oh dang, good call. I actually play with limits too and didn't think to include this. I do 35 players per level and limit rookie ball age to 21, A 23, A+ 24, AA 25.
forgive me for a dumb question but where can you set these limits for each level ? All I find is under rules a generic overall active roster size /40man/expanded. Any help will be appreciated. Love the videos and will always support
@@88badfish88 When you are on the rules subsection, go to the right side of the screen and change MLB(there is a dropdown menu) to whatever league you want to make changes to and you will get the correct menu. Hope you find it.
A "use hard mode for trading" tale. I started a Rockies save with that turned on. If you do the Rockies then you know you have zilch in money and a pretty nasty roster. I had shopped some players early with no real results but by June we were sitting at 22-27 so I decided to trade CJ Cron. The Yankees offered Oswaldo Cabrera so I decided to make the move, decent player for budget room. Submitted the trade. Yankee replied Almost. I check the list of players they would consider and resubmit. Almost! To shorten the story, this went on for 9 emails and eventually lead to a 9 for 2 trade. I continued as an experiment. The AI in the end started asking for Veen/Romo. So, that feature is pretty much not workable IMHO.
Ha that sounds like a giant pain in the ass. I thought they had changed the issue with AI telling you in email what player would complete the trade and then not accepting when you add that player. I've found that to be fixed this year but looks like it's still an issue!
I set the Generate International Free Agents number to "Few" since the international leagues are no longer an option. I still get some really good players but most of them are average to well below-average.
middle setting is much too easy on trading difficulty. I have landed on 2 clicks off far right for when I start my longer playthrough plus/minus 1. The reputation system is flat out broke right now from my initial playthrough to test 24. Even if you just "reject" a trade from another GM your rep goes down which is ridiculous. I like your suggestions on batter/pitching aging/development and think I will try that out too
I think 2 clicks to the right is the default as of now, yeah? I've found it to be reasonable but admittedly need to play more before deciding for sure.
Gotcha, thanks. Do you have hard trade mode on? With hard trade mode on, and changing the AI evaluation to value ratings more than stats, I've found the default to be decent so far.
I don't at the moment. I started with it on for a while and now with it off just to see the differences. Default might be the setting with hard/proper trade mode on for sure
Yes I was waiting for your thoughts on settings before starting! From what I've read most people seem to be playing with trade frequency on low or very low, but very low in the off season. Also read people playing with favour rating instead of stats, with rating at around 60. It looked like some crazy trades were happening without this. The last thing is trade difficulty and favour prospects, I'm not sure about, keen to see what others think is best. Currently torn between starting with: Cubs - favourite team, know the org etc. Angels - get Trout a ring. Mariners - first WS. Any thoughts!
Yeah, I actually decided to change my rating weights after recording this video. I should probably do an update just about trade stuff because it seems really broken at the default settings right now. I vote Cubs!
Right now I am trying 45/30/20/5. I'll post/pin a comment here later tonight or tomorrow with the trade settings I've tweaked over the last day or so since recording this.
@@pfholden how you getting on with ratings and trade difficulty? One other thing I've changed is turning off inflation as it quickly went a bit mad, which is probably realistic, but the AI couldn't keep up.
@@dankent333 still kinda figuring out the trade settings but most of the issues seem to be with AI so I am playing around with turning up favor prospects and turning down the AI trade frequency. If I find anything worthwhile, I'll do another video. And yeah, I've seen some of the crazy inflation stuff, probably best to turn it off.
For the Options section under League Settings there’s a category for Milestones. I noticed that quite a few of them are wrong for the Career Milestones. - Hits is set at 2,000 instead of 3,000 - HR’s is at 300 instead of 500 - K’s is 2,000 and not 3,000 - Wins is set to 200 not 300 Do you often leave them alone? Or do you change them and just forgot to mention it? I wasn’t sure if it would mess with any of the gameplay or records players may have reached or are close to reaching. Thanks! Awesome video btw! Love the channel! You have a new subscriber…
Not really the area of the game I know a lot about, but online league or perfect team may be what you're looking for. The OOTP forums or reddit may be helpful to guide you.
Free agent suits isn't new, love that one! Trade logic is not good IMO, def worse than 23. Also needs to be turned down. Foolish Bailey has a funny/sad video of it simming out. Curious what your opinion is now. Reputation is also implemented poorly per your explanation. I definitely got a lot of value from your suggestion to move the draft in the past.
Ha, I have never noticed the option on the suits before. And yeah, something is jacked up with the AI trading. I'm actually in the process of working on a video about it, trying to find settings that calm it down a bit.
Another great video and answered my question from the other video post about what you change from the default.
Always my go to for settings on a new release. Thanks for showing GM over ride option. Did not see that.
