Thanks for sharing the information. For me, I think the sweet spot for frequency of trades and the number of top 50 prospects traded feels like it’s probably between the defaults and the changes you tried. Now I just need to figure out the trade settings I need to thread that needle!
I totally agree, somewhere in the middle is the sweet spot. I prefer the adjustments I made over the default, but please report back if you make adjustments that move us towards a more ideal solution!
Nice to see some data on it. Just from a gut feeling perspective it seems high. I only did one season so far so it’s not enough to form a conclusion, but the high prospects trades were crazy. If they were traded for all star level players it would be one thing as those do happen. But teams were trading top 100 prospects for barely league average relievers. That shouldn’t be happening. Obviously lopsided trades happen in real life but usually they’re more undervalued player breaks out surprisingly. Not usually that a top 100 prospect is traded for nothing
Thanks for all your tutorials. I am new to the game and I watched your videos about settings and this video about trading being broken. I have set AI trading on low at the start of the season, but I am now on July 3 and there hasn't been a single trade between AI teams. Is this normal or should I change the setting to a higher value? Or could it be because of some other setting that I might have changed incorrectly? Also, do you still recomend the 45/30/20/5 settings for player evaluation? It seems OOTP has changed them by default, maybe in a patch, because the values were different when I first started a game than the ones you showed in your video. Sorry for all the questions, hope to hear from you. Thanks!
No trade by July seems weird and I think they did make tweaks to trading frequency in a recent patch. But I've kept mine at low and been happy with it. Yeah, I did notice they changed the default eval settings, but I always play with the 45/30/20/5, so am sticking with that.
Hey Paul! Let me know how the settings work for you and if you find further tweaks that help. I don't think my tweaks are ideal, and I'd love to see them improved upon.
Thank you for posting this. I thought I was going insane on my playthrough. You focused on the AI trades but I also think the amount of trades sent TO me as a GM is kind of insane. I've marked half of my starting lineup "untouchable" just because I was getting so sick of the AI offering crap trades for them. I just didn't really think this was broken in earlier versions of the game. Trading seemed fine to me. Seems like an odd thing to focus on this year.
What I've noticed in my sims so far has been the AI refusing to trade with a player except when they are getting way more in return than the player whereas the same trades between AI happen regularly. Definitely think the trade system needs some tuning but adjusting sliders has helped in the meantime
First comment somehow did not post, but...thanks for this info. I've been concerned about starting anything except experiments with 24 partly because of this circumstance. The other part is the loss of the international leagues (and scrambling of past saves). On that score, I'm seeing what I can do to organize some kind of mod board, but thus far have not attracted a lot of interest. This may be my last go-round with OOTP as a result...we shall see.
have you noticed anything weird with war calculation in ootp 24? aaron judge has a 172 ops+ in my sim but only has 1.1 war through 40 games and is on pace for only 4.3 war on the season.
@@pfholden no i didn’t think to do that. i guess he could have been really bad with defensive metrics, that would be surprising though with his defensive ratings
I'm definitely feeling like 'valuation' affects both the quality and the number. Because.. correct valuation keeps certain trades from occurring. I'm convinced that's what is 'broken' and if it can be changed with a weight change, fantastic. I just did a 40/40 I liked better, but it will be a matter of dialing it in until I can just ignore it and enjoy it all at once.
Did you or do you intend to fiddle with the Trade Preference slider at all? I'd be curious how much impact it has, especially in conjunction with tweaking/not tweaking Trade Frequency. I think historically most people (myself included) would move that towards Favor Prospects but I wonder if moving towards Favor Vets + Low Trade Frequency might be a good equilibrium to create a more realistic total # of trades while still opening the doors for an occasional top prospect trade. Of course, that might be too exploitable by a user team. But maybe *that* could be countered by bumping trade difficulty. Or maybe I have it backwards and Favor Prospects + Default Trade Frequency would create a better balance, where the trade total would drop to a more reasonable number with AI GMs less determined to jettison top prospects for scraps. I dunno, just spitballing. Thanks for the video!
I didn't move the sliders. I might when I play, but I wanted to leave settings as close to default as possible for this test. I was going to tweak towards favors prospects if I needed to, but prospects trade seemed was less frequent with the adjustments I made.
*sets trading as hard as possible* *routinely gets teams trading legendary players for absolutely nothing minor leaguers* I thought this was supposed to be hard. I got Sandy Koufax for a 20/20 player.....
This is massively helpful! Thanks for the research. I've started a season with 55/30/10/5 and haven't seen any crazy trades but I'm not at July yet to be fair. I had been playing with frequency on very low but think with your research I'll change it to low for July and leave it at very low for the rest of the time. Maybe I'll house rule myself into only trading in July unless it's an emergency. Trade difficulty I'm still figuring out, I've been using 18/20 difficulty which seems mostly fair. Not sure about favour prospects scale. Have you had a look at this at all?
I've just kept it on default so far. I'll probably bump the difficulty up a bit at some point, but ever since they redid the trade AI (in 22 or 23) I think the defaults are much better than they used to be.
Fantastic video and observations. Trading has been frenzied so far in this game. Hopefully, it gets fixed. But def gonna try your settings. Also...Lets Go O's.
Great content. The trade balance is bothersome so far. Both things you mentioned, the amount and the balance seems off. The amount where all the top prospects are traded is definitely irritating. The other with the balance, where AI seems to trade either superstars/top prospects for a middle reliever is bothersome. Watching the AI trade Tatis or Ohtani for peanuts isn't good. The other one that is hindering the enjoyment in both of my saves is the imbalance with the international prospects and drafts. There seems to be little to no talent in the draft, where high level international superstars come every year. Was really hoping the new international system would fix that, and it does to a point where all teams dont just bid top dollar and it is random on where they go, but the draft often provides a lot more talent that represented.
Quick question, about to buy ootp24 but am hearing the financials are broken and people are saying they are waiting for the patch because the patch may not retro fix current game saves. Have you noticed any serious issues. Love your channel, can't wait for your next playthrough
I simmed 1 season and the trades (set to normal default settings) were so spastic insane in volume, number, and frequency that it was impossible to keep up. This was all capped off by the AI trading Shohei to the Philies for Andrew Painter and some random CF. I started over and I'm now trying it on the low setting for trade frequency.
Tbh, if Ohtani is traded in real life this season at the deadline, and the team acquiring him is only getting a half season of him before he hits free agency, I don't think the headliner of the return will be as good as Painter.
@@pfholden The really odd thing about that particular trade was that the AI gave Ohtani a 1 year deal after he got injured, and then the AI of the Phillies traded for him with that deal in the offseason leading up to the Winter Meetings. I had more of an issue with the crazy numbers of random trades going around the league than I did with that specific trade. It was impossible for me to keep up with. I want to try your settings to see if it's more fun with less trades.
Fascinating research and i do love a graph 😅. Did any further patches make any changed to this and has it been improved in 25.
Yeah, this was for 24, all good with 25
You didn't know that OOTP24 is the Jerry Dipoto version?
OOTP 24 default settings: If every GM is 50% Jerry Dipoto and 50% AJ Preller

Sure, but worth noting with the setting changes I made, no top 50 prospects were traded in the first year through the Rule V draft.
@@pfholden oh for sure yours are much better. I meant the base settings
Ah, I gotcha. Yeah, year 1 on default settings had too many prospects traded for my liking, and like you said, the returns were often pretty bad.
i have barely played 24 so far but i have had this happen in previous years. i never messed with trade settings though

Great stuff, I've definitely been seeing this around the community and at times in my sims. I'll be applying these settings to curb it for sure

oh huh, I actually haven't noticed a difference in the amount of trades proposed to me. I'd guess lowering the trade frequency may help.

yes, imo it has been improved

Yeah, i think the change in default AI valuation settings was causing a lot of the issues.

Folks. Just manually create valid trades. Always make sure the AI slightly wins the trades to make it fair.
This is about AI-to-AI trades. You turn trading off and manually create trades between AI teams?
