Watching this from the future, but that “ Gunner is a better defender” take sure aged like Milk 🤣
This was excellent but I sim and watch my playoff games, it would be nice to have known how you set up the presets for the CPU. Your info was helpful, so I was able to ascertain what is best. And yes, I was one of those guys running out 3 closers.
Where did you go!?
So basically Commissioner Mode is almost like Steve Cohen Mode? lol
Thanks for doing these! I am currently downloading 25 now. I've downloaded every version since 20. Then I get overwhelmed and uninstall without finishing a season. Maybe this is the year I get it!
But where is game? Where are players? Where do I hit?
The year is 2024 and watching bro skip over Jackson Holliday in the second round of the draft is super funny to me
hahaha
I just started playing OOTP 25, I had an older version, but it has been a long time since I played.
When it comes to Setting lineups & depth charts and Setting pitching staff .... which of these two would you say would be the easiest to take control of first - as a newbie to OOTP and Baseball (sort of) I have previously left both to manager but would like to give one of the two a go.
Hmm, I'd say take over pitching staff first if you're deciding between the two.
Would this work for Indy leagues?
Hi Pf. An improvement that I noticed immediately is that the outfielders now throw to the cutoff man. Thank heavens! Next challenge, a minor but annoying gripe with OOTP: they have had the same "cleverisms" for several years (since at least OOTP21). "Never give up. Never give in. - Jimmy Rollins" Really? With all of the 125+ years of baseball quotes, OOTP can't come up with better than these? At least refresh them. Many of the "Yogi-isms" OOTP uses are dubious at best, & are likely concoctions by sportswriters. Is there a way to provide one's own cleverisms, or wake up OOTP? Thanks!
haha yeah, some of those sayings have been with the game forever. I just assume it's not a high priority for the dev team.
9:24 there are some settings you can change off stars and some other minor tweaks on the home screen and then team settings. probably still not your cup of tea but it's there
Ahhh, good catch, thank you!
What have you learned from the lab after using it for six months or so?
Great question! A little long to type out here, but I am planning to have a video in the next week or so that'll cover this and other things. If you use the forums or subreddit, I think the advice out there is pretty much in line with what I've found.
@@OOTPaddy Probably. I followed Old School Sports idea of expanding the lab to 20. I have found that to be overkill, but I have been able to use that to learn a lot. I am still learning.
Ah yeah, 20 is more than I use. I've landed on 10 as a good spot for me.
@@OOTPaddy I was using 20, for mostly testing purposes. For example, I would try to add an extra pitch for 20 pitchers in my system and see how many were successful. As expected, it was very few, considering it is the most difficult program. I'm thinking that 10 is about right too. How did you settle on this number?
I probably spend more time on the first day of the offseason, than any other day. Sometimes, I spend a lot of time on the First Year Player's Draft. Winter Meetings, and Trade Deadline. However, I don't spend a lot of time on the IAFA Draft, unless things go sideways. I've also found that you can avoid arbitration by offering the player 95% of his Arbitration Figure - found on the Contract portion of the Player's Page. I just take their Arb Figure, multiply it by .95, and round up to the next 10K.
ootp does star players dirty. it is pretty rare for a star player to just lose it when they’re in their late 20s or early 30s.
seriously, either that or someone spiked the crab cakes when these guys hit 27 :D (such a random age for guys to start falling off a cliff). I mean, it's baseball and anything's possible, but ootp 25 definitely doesn't like sustained player success in my experience.
I think the current team is good enough that Gunnar could play every day for the rest of the season. What a going away gift for the player and the fans.
Awesome seeing Gunnar and Jackson still on the team.
more to come on that--it's been fun having them around
Man, what an awesome team. I bet they might even be able to win a game or two in the playoffs with that kind of talent ;)
I am going to give that 85-game wild card team a true test.
Love your content. Know it's a niche space but it's appreciated
appreciate you taking the time to say this!
Brown Kimberly Williams Timothy Robinson Jose
Davis Robert Miller Paul Perez Dorothy
Johnson Laura Miller Richard Martinez Mary
Much like the Padres collect SS's, looks like you're collecting 3B's :D
Haha, good call. I can't get enough of those 1b/3b dudes, apparently.
How do you have positive success with the development lab? It always seems to just tank my players (overall/potential). Is there something I am missing?
I'm not totally confident with the lab yet since it's so new, but here's my general approach for the players I pick: younger players in MLB or solid prospects who are AA or above. Target a skill the player does not have maxed our potential in. So, if a player has 40 overall/60 potential power, I'd put them in to work on power (I think that's generate batspeed). I might also consider favoring guys who have high work ethic/intelligence, but that's more of a tiebreaker than a determining factor. Hope this helps!
BY GAWD LA KNIGHT HAS TAKEN CONTROL OF THE MINNESOTA TWINS
YEAH
Bummer. I always love the looks at team records and where the players from the sim end up on the all time list. But Cito Sucks so who cares. 😂😂
The only stud I see here is the manager 👀
Now playing OOTP25. I have a question. On the finances page, it shows maximum contract length. My is currently locked at 15 years. How can I change that? I am playing historical and starting in 1967. During that year, Nolan Ryan, for an example, is a rookie. My strategy is to lock him up long term BEFORE free agency hits in 1976 to a 20 year contract starting at his current salary and incrementally increasing him until he hits $1,000,000 per season then plateauing him. Great contract in 1986 and beyond. But I am limited to 15 years, meaning I either pay Ryan a ton or lose him.
hmm, not sure if that's in setting or not, sorry.
My OOTP experience is limited but I find that later into a sim you start to get more of those insane talent jumps. I have a VERY late Rangers sim (2059) that had a player go from a 40/55 to an 80/80 with a 170 WRC+ in the majors in a year and another go from an A-baller with a negative WPA to a 200 WRC+ major leaguer in two years. Though nothing will ever top me trading Simeon Woods-Richardson as a like 40/45 pitching prospect who had like a 115 ERA+ in AA only to see him immediately skip AAA, win the Cy Young, and then win the next THREE Cy-Youngs, all unanimously.
Haha wow, I have not seen Woods Richardson become a start before. That is WILD
Congrats on the new place. You still in the area?
Yes I am!
Can you tell me what the difference is between fielding and position ratings?
Yes but what do you mean by that?
Loved this. Informative and funny. Thanks for making it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Not sad to see Toronto lose.
It would’ve been really cool to see this team come together with all of that money and the current roster, but alas, dang computers. Looking forward to whatever comes next!
Tough way to end the series. Really would’ve loved to see the recap vids you always do to see how players panned out. Oh well, that’s computers for ya
I know! That's one of my favorite parts of a sim and I was bummed to not be able to do that.
Damnit man
agree
These comments are awesome and I've learned a lot of new things as a beginner. Originally I just came here to ask a question but after reading all these comments I'm excited to watch the entire video!
I'm gonna have a nightmare about that scary ending
same

Why is so damned impossible to find the manual for 2025? This game is turning out to be full of pitfalls. If it's not one thing it's a damn other. Forget them responding to your emails. They certainly won't do that. I'm 3 weeks in waiting. Can't even find an up to date manual. I suggest Zen Gm.
Gunner Henderson lol
The end of the season had 2021 vibes when the Jays entered the last day tied with the Ms and one back of both the Yankees and Sox for 2 spots.
Thank you to our Jays historian!
2026 Red Sox junior Marino is the #1 overall prospect at 50/55 con 70/80 power 85/95 eye. The next Aaron judge. Too bad Marcelo became a bust and is basically Gabriel arias bad hitting and good defense. All my coaches are excellent at least in development And mechanics. Roman Anthony was also the #1 prospect the year prior. I have the best farm system annually but Marcelo decided to bust. I’m on challenge mode and trying to build a home grown Sox dynasty. When I traded for Marino he looked like a bench bat in the future at best but now it’s Aaron judge if he couldn’t catch a ball because his fielding is crap.
Im using version 25. I cant find the scouting options for the life of me. The company won't email me back either.
what do you mean by scouting options? If you don't get email response, try the forums or the reddit.
@@OOTPaddy I'm a permanent Reddit ban. IP address... What I'm saying is that I can't find any kind of options for scouts or any way to change them or hire them or anything like that. The tutorial online where they show the page where you do it, it looks different from my version even though it says it's the same year.
if you're looking for scouts to hire, look under the league personnel page where you hire other staff and filter for scouts.
@@OOTPaddy I am not even sure where that is! I've looked.
click on the league menu up to, probably says "MLB" if you're playing in MLB, then transactions > personnel
The AI has definitely been wonky all year for this game in terms of DFAs and waiving players… feels less polished than previous games which I find strange. Been taking some fun out of my playthroughs and it’s somewhat frustrating
I find the 23 version better than 24 and 25
In my experience, this got better with more recent patches. I recorded this episode a couple months ago.
Tough loss, but happy it was to my Phils I guess. Sucks to see that your owner plans on cutting even more budget in the future
