    What a gentleman Roger is. He would hold things for you and carry items for you without any hesitation or being asked. He looked so cute in the top hat! Should wear it for your wedding day! You got some great thrift finds but your best thrift find was definitely Roger!

    The big glass pig (about 16:48) was designed by a friend and colleague of my father. He was a design engineer in the glass division at Owens-Illinois in Toledo, Ohio. Probably from the 1970s. We used to keep coins in ours.

    I am a journeyman carpenter and i cant even count how many homes and concrete jobs i have worked on.
    I want to let you in on a secret. Your contractors are doing an excellent job! I can tell by your video that they havent missed anything.
    You see how neat and tidy they keep it? That doesnt “ just happen” that’s experience and professionalism.
    They remembered the anchor bolts in for the walls. They have kep clay and dirt out of your crushed rock. The crushed rock is to get rid of any moisture and if you have lumps and clay and dirt in there you can wind up with a musty smell.
    You obviously sought out a quality contractor.
    Lots of people go with the very cheapest and you get what you pay for.
    I look forward to more videos.
    You should be very proud of this addition. The contractor on the foundation is doing a fantastic job.

    Snow Shoes: In our area they get hung on the walls, with the deer heads and indigenous art. I just sold a set that was built with strips of dried rawhide lashing, to make the webs and hold the leather boot bindings in place. The wood is often ASH, since it has to be able to take the bends.

  • @brianhenry2385

    Tall foundations: as you mentioned they are good for water runoff and snow melt, but it also creates a barrier for wood boring insects like Termites and Carpenter ants. When they do try to create tunnels up the foundation, it's very easy to spot them. Which is why it's good to keep large bushes away from the foundation and siding.
    The next step will likely be the floor joists and sub-floor, then the walls. Having the sub-floor down before the walls provides a nice flat workspace to build the walls on. If the crew is big enough, they will often put the exterior sheathing on (plywood or OSB) the walls before the tip. Sometimes I even add the Tyvek house wrap before lifting the walls in place.. Keeps the work on ladders down to a minimum. There just have to be enough team members (or equipment) to lift the walls, once built. It's faster to do the work on the deck, but gets heavier to lift.
    Looking good!

    Silver Plated "Pill Box": It looked like it had a vertical slit on the side, so I suspect it's for holding a roll of Postage Stamps. I made one for Rose, many years ago, when we lived in Hawaii from their beautiful local KOA wood. She still uses it, but very few stamps go out each month.

    The tea chest most likely had crystal glass bowls inside. The weight of the glass inserts would’ve held it down. Often ignored by thrifters are plain, round or square vintage clear glass bowls. The tea box lovers (especially Brits) enjoy buying them up super cheap especially antique box restorers. Higher end Tea box dishes come in 3s - 2 small n one larger bowl in the center for mixing. Folks repurpose tea boxes n the glass dishes usually get separated.

  • @brianhenry2385
    @brianhenry2385 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Old Tea Chest: I agree that it's for tea, which used to have enough value to need to be locked. Used to see them at the antique vender market when I lived in Japan. Too bad it doesn't stand up, but if you kept it full of tea it might be more stable with the added weight.
