I used to have a manager who was a UK national, if I would be working till 7 pm, he would ask me if your time is over, please go home, his line was "finish your work within billable hours", then I had an Indian manager soon, and the line was "I don't care for how much hours, the task needs to be finished".

I had similar experience in Mumbai as I worked in a 5 star Hotel and i was on job trainee i had 1 experienced Sr. Chef he use to say "finish your work as early as possible and leave there is no need to work for long hours no one is going to pay you high or value the extra work/time" but the next bakery (in Mumbai itself) i joined was a nightmare for me it was just a startup (only 2 employees under her one me and one more female) and the Head female Chef was micromanaging me, they used to gossip about me , she had no cleaning staff we only had to make recipes and we had to clean everything utensils used and deep cleaning of the kitchen, extra hours of work, she use to expect us to do her personal work which many times i did too but one day she bought her pet dog to the kitchen and he pee, so just for being in good books of the Head Chef the other employee cleaned the floor were else i din't , many a times they use to not involve me in the discussion related to work , they were interested in my personal life gossips more which i don't like it to be discussed at workplace. luckily i left the place with in 3 months but happy... being there was very much toxic.

And they logout at 2:30 AM IST (9:30AM to 5:30 PM AR timezone). There is no such thing at overtime for them. If someone from India asks them to stay late, their HR will immediately escalate this. I wish we have the same work culture in India.

I was working in wfh format and they had 8-10 hours of working. But the twist comes they had put the policy to reply at any time and anywhere no matter what u are doing. And i m telling my personal experience. If i couldn't reply immediately irrespective of what I'm doing whether in the washroom or eating or doing any work, you have to reply. My manager fired me by saying you have a casual attitude towards work for not replying on time they would expect a reply even late at night even if u r asleep. Although I'm not working because of the touchwood of my family i have my family's financial background support but lots of my colleagues are still there suffering because they have to meet their financial requirements. And they can't quit. This burn out culture is very toxic. Only if all employees go again of this culture then only this will stop. Not everyone wants to go beyond a boundary to sacrifice their health and happiness to earn money. There are people who have other priorities as well. Our government should bring some strict registration for this

Last company me office working time tha 10-7 lekin daily 8 or 8:30 ho hi jata tha work load ki wajah se,
Manager had se jyada toxic tha, office me enter hote hi office time end Tak torture karta tha,
Jo work milkar karne se easy ho sake wo kam 1 par thopkar chale jata tha, aate hi complete kyu nhi hua bhasan chalu,
    Dantna, Humiliate karna,
Bathroom ke liye jake 5 minute relax Karo to question itne time kaha rehte ho, lunch ka fix time nhi 2 baje Jane ko milta khana khate hi turan pc pe bethkar kam chalu, aaram ke liye 5 minute bhi nahi,
Khudke senior ko politics khelle nikal diya, fir mujhe Diwali festival se pehle majburi me job quit karni padi, lowest salary pe dusri jagah join karna pada, middle class ki majburi, ghar pe koi aur kamata nahi hai jyada,
Office pe complaint karne par bhi hamari hi galti nikali jati, office member bhi khudki safety ke liye support nahi karte,
Unko sirf full day pc pe bethne wale log pasand hai, kisiki mental health bigde usse kuch lena dena hi nahi

      1. Laws are strong on paper but not in real life.

      3. Cheap Labour as we can get the maximum output possible with minimum cost.

I worked for my previous company from 10 AM to 7 PM IST. It was a mid-sized company, and I’m grateful to have had such a positive experience there. I joined as a fresher and worked for three years. I assumed that most companies would have a similar environment, at least during billable hours.
Later, I joined an MNC and started working for US clients. The working hours shifted to 11 AM to 9 PM IST. I found it puzzling that my colleagues would often stay until 10 or 11 PM IST. They even expected me to work these extended hours and would literally call me to stay late. I often wondered why we were required to sit for so long, and I doubted whether the US clients even expected us to be available that late. However, our Indian managers didn’t seem to understand this.
I usually don’t stay beyond my hours, unless there’s something urgent. At times, I feel compelled to join, but most of the time, I refuse. This behavior has caused tension, and I can sense that my colleagues don't like it. But honestly, why should I be concerned with their expectations? In the end, this feels like a toxic work culture. "SAY NO"

Few months back I was working in an export house in Gurugram where the work hours were 9-10 hours and 6 days a week and they might give you work to be done from home. Taking a break felt so much guilt and if the company founder is working late you are obliged to sit in the office until he leaves, as a mark of respect. Our computers were under surveillance the whole time and if we would switch tabs even for booking a ticket the HR would come to warn us. The manager would come late and still till late in the office and asked us to be in office till night to prove our dedication for the job. Thank you for making this video and I'm glad i left that job

I had joined a company in 2019. Initially the work was taking up pace. Then the pandemic hit. We were given work from home but were called to office in 3rd month after lockdown started. To make up losses to the company we were asked to work on Saturdays. I used to go to office at 9 and leave office at 9 due to workload. In this no increment happened no appreciation given. Later next year the increment was like peanuts. The leaders started micromanaging. I tried to talk about this to the leaders and told how small things are impacting work and efficiency. Instead of "empathising" they started blaming me for their own mistakes. Finally in 2022 I left the company, took a career break up, upskilled myself and now I am in a better work environment.
The thing I feel bad about is even after giving multiple chances and conveying the pain to the leaders they didn't address. I hope they don't face such micromanagement and stress in their life (because I know how it breaks you from inside). Even though they did bad with me I wish they never get to see this hell, not their next generations as well (everyone deserves the best work environment).

In an IT career, there is a lot of pressure. In my 10 years of IT experience, I’ve seen so many toxic managers who just offer dry promotions, giving you a title but keeping the salary low, making you work more by saying, "You're a lead now." Recently, I experienced a situation where I told my manager there was too much work on the project, and he responded by saying, "I'll transfer you to another project, then you'll realize that people there have even more work." This is no way to handle things by comparing workloads. Eight hours should be enough, but they take up 5 hours with meetings and still expect you to deliver 8 hours of work. The Indian IT culture makes people work like slaves. I have to spend two and a half hours traveling to the office every week just to say "Good morning" to the manager. Besides the 12 to 13 hours of daily work, I’m expected to train the team, take my own training, get certifications, meet quarterly goals, and still provide 40 hours of billing every week. It leads to extreme burnout.

I'm currently in 2nd year so I don't have any experience to share regarding jobs but I've about my coaching institute.
I finished my 10th in 2020 and I took PCM then Pandemic hit and lockdown happened. I joined a local coaching institute because my dad's business wasn't that great due to lockdown so I continued in that coaching for 2 years. In those 2 years we studied some momths online and rest offline. During those offline sessions my classes used to be scheduled from 7 in the morning to 7 or 7:30 in the evening no matter what the weather conditions were and we used to have just one break of 30 minutes which was for lunch. I started feeling burnt out and stressed because of majorly 3 reasons. 1). Low quality and less sleep, 2). Couldn't complete homework at time and 3). No self studies.
All this went straight for straight for 2 years because we started attending offline classes from August 2020 in the basement of the coaching and the main gates of coaching were locked from outside by some peon. We felt like trapped and we can't get out. In june 2022 I gave my first mains,in july 2022 2nd mainsand August 2022 Jee advanced. In all of these exams I wasn't able to focus at all. I couldn't solve questions, I was feeling a sort of fear for something I don't even want to think about. I took drop year, I went to kota and it took me 2 months to fix my mental health. I got my confidence back, I was able to focus, I was not afraid all thanks to the best kind of people I met there. Those 10 months were the best of my entire life. I couldn't get a seat in IIT but I aced Jee mains and currently in a IIIT.

I had join a new company because my current company was shifting its base to North India. But the new company was very toxic, the co-workers were very unhelpful, even juniors. They have formed their own inner circle. I spoke about this to my boss but it didn't help.I had to leave the company in 10 days and I am looking for another opportunity.
Sometimes a company doesn't understand how difficult it will be for employees to get through all these, especially when he or she is the only earning member in family.
Please do not fall for the companies just because they are paying you higher.
The sign for toxic companies are
    1) They are always hiring.
    2) they will force you to join immediately or with a very short notice period.
    3) They will be reluctant to give you an offer letter or anything in writing.
    4) Look for the company review on the ambition box.

When working in India is need to ask for my Manager's permission for leave. If they say no we cannot approve please plan your leave later I had to change my plans. Now a days, most of the Indian citizens are facing these issues related to unfair work practices, and they are eager for change. In my opinion, the Government of India should establish strict laws that clearly define the limits of work culture, not only for large corporations and MNCs but also for small and medium-sized firms. Although some laws exist, they are fail to cover all types of employees. However, Same Multinational companies often have more reasonable and employee-friendly policies outside India because labor laws in those countries are stricter and prioritize employee rights and welfare. And also same these companies may take advantage of gaps in labor laws or inconsistent enforcement. This situation highlights the need for stronger and more strictly enforced labor regulations in India to ensure fair treatment for all employees. 🙌🙌

So they are "dedicated" employees. In reality, when they came early and stayed up late, they used to gossip about everyone in the office and go for long breaks. On the other hand, I used to complete all the work within my shift and used to leave the office on time. But I used to get lectures for not extending shifts.... During my internship I faced this same toxic situation, adults getting more than friendly with me, mocking me when I completely stick to my 8 hours times. According to them even as an intern I should stay on office after 6pm even if I dont have work.

I worked in a startup where we barely had time. The culture was that worse where seniors were fired because they needed to offer high salary, and completely rely on juniors for work. Sometimes coping with such high priority and quality work would require us to stay in midnights for the next day delivery. The micromanagement ruined my entire work life balance over there.Being one of the ambitious students who never gave up in any sort of work I took, I turned out to be self doubting myself when I used to handle things alone without a proper team. Finally resigned my job for the sake of my physical and mental health. This issue needs to be addressed seriously and the Government should implemented strong rules to copeup with such toxic work cultures. Work should be the part of life, life should never be a work😢

I worked in a startup in my first job and the work culture was good for namesake but they do smooth talk and inject pressure like slow poison at the same time they paid me peanuts in the name of being a fresher and the worst part is it was 6 day work week also my manager counted number of hours I worked and asked me to work more thank God I left that shit hole.

Once, when I was new at a company, I used to often work overtime. When I raised my concern and requested overtime pay, as per company policies and laws, my colleagues and everyone on the floor laughed at me and made fun of me. They said it's normal to work overtime without getting paid. It's a common belief in India that working overtime without compensation is normal, and many employees are unaware of their basic work rights. It's disheartening that there is little support for those who speak the truth about this issue.

On the first day of his return, I was told to teach 02 periods instead of regular 05 periods. On the next day, the process continued. When asked the difference in behavior the school Director told me that the students of the school don't understand my teaching whereas since last 25 years I have been teaching in various schools. Actual fact was the local teacher who returned back after resigning two months back agreed to continue on the previous salary which is about 50% of my salary. I was told to leave my job on that day and to leave the campus within two days whereas if I had resigned then minimum of one month of notice period to be followed.

I'm a 42-year-old guy from Delhi, working as an Assistant Manager at a software company in Noida. Even though I’m in middle management, I still deal with judgmental attitudes and perceptions. I prefer keeping my personal and professional lives separate-I’m not into late-night parties, drinking, or cracking inappropriate jokes. But somehow, this makes my colleagues and manager view me as uncooperative or having a bad attitude.
On top of that, since I live locally, there’s this unspoken expectation that I should take fewer holidays and adjust for others because most of my team is from out of town. All these factors-perceptions, attitudes, and expectations-have a serious impact on my career growth, and it’s frustrating.

Jo bhi points aapne discuss kiye wo sahih ai, lekin sabse bada important point hai humari population. Me apna hi experience share karta hun. Jab me interview keliye gaya tha tab meine overtime karne se mana kiya kabhi work hai to thik hai other regular nahi. Baad me pata chala ki ek ladki ko select kiya hai, luckily uska friend mera dost nikla and one day he told me ke meri girlfriend ka to almost mahine ke 18-20 days to overtime me hi jaate hai. In fact, mujhe apne senior ne ye bataya tha ki 5 saal tak Gadhe ki tarah kaam karo baat me puri life Aish hi Aish hai. AC office me aaraam se bathna hai Manager banke. And this is the reality. Humare desh me log manager ban ne ki raah dekhte hai fir wo apni team ki band bajate hai. Aur jo manager ye sabse zyadaa karta hai use company promotion deti hai. Basically, companies ko ek talented manager ki zarurat nahi hai lekin employees ko Hadkane waala ek Kutta chahiye to be honest. Even jab kisi manager se uske aise behavior ke baare me baat karo to uska kehna hota hai ki jab wo tha tab usne ye sab saha hai. Wahi wahi purana Saa-Bahu waala Rishta hai.

The concept of work-life balance in corporate environments has become a joke. My father works at the head office of West Bengal's largest school chain, where his official hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Yet, meetings regularly drag on until 8:30, sometimes even 9:30 PM. It’s absurd that they can't fit these meetings within working hours! To make matters worse, the same points are repeated daily with no real focus on execution, leaving little time for actual work, and piling on the mental stress.
To add insult to injury, team managers often come from completely unrelated fields and end up managing teams in areas they don’t understand. Our labor laws are so weak that toxic corporate cultures like this go unchecked, and there's no accountability. This broken system desperately needs change.

I used to work at a private University. There was a policy of assigning replacement in case someone wanted to take a leave. Assigning replacement was harrasing as one had to go and request the other person to take your replacement for the day. One day I got ear infection and it escalated over the week to such an extent that my ear opening got closed due to swelling and I could not hear from that ear. Even in that situation, the boss made everyone follow policy and told them secretly to not to take my adjustment. The staff was also following orders because they wanted to be boss's favourite. Besides, I was also from a different town so discrimination is common in Punjab with outsiders. Considering I can loose my hearing, I decided to quit and left the organization with immediate effect. I reported to the owner of Chandigarh University over email. I did not hear back from anyone. The boss and staff still work there. I wonder who's life they are spoiling now. But if someone has a similar incident, please dont be disheartened. Something better will definitely come around in some time.

@@Yash-choudhary123 Bro the 24*7 timing is for emergency situation only. It is not for normal days..for normal days there is working hours counted weekly that is how much should be the total working hour in a week.

Worst working environment is in BPO sector In india, they make people to work in the night shifts, don't allow phone phones on the floor, imagine any emergency occures at home he would know for hours, In BPO they don't allow to go washroom when it needed, if working hours 8 to 8.50 hrs, if someone left 10 minutes to complete login hours, they mark half day.

This is a big issue with which my dad is also struggling currently!!
The Govt. should bring strict laws and enforce them too so that work-stress can be controlled. I think Govt. as well as other EdTech. companies should make proper courses for labour laws so that employees can become aware of their legal rights to avoid any problem later. Even the colleges can also teach these laws in their last semester!!

The main reason for toxic work environment these days is poor mental condition of people at every level in the organisation. Specially the managers. Anyone who has power misuses it to harrass others. People are toxic, frustrated, cruel, corrupt and filled with every negative trait. All these characteristics make the office atmosphere counter productive.
There are HR policies, employee welfare schemes, but its just for namesake.
Powerful or influential people in the top management or in the industry or society have accepted this as normal and a part of the culture. So anyone who raises their voice against such system is labelled as not fit or over sensitive/ incompetent or whatever.
This toxicity has its roots entrenched deep into the society. No good work is being appreciated or honoured at the workplace. You just have to prove that you are also a corrupt Individual and a part if the system. Then you climb up the ladder.
It is least about the working hours or the quality of work being done. It is the mental or emotional harrasment which makes offices unproductive and unprofitable at the end.

Indian industries face some challenges, particularly in management practices:
    1. Unrealistic expectations are common among many Indian managers.
    2. Criticism and feedback are often met with resistance and retaliation, sometimes resulting in job loss.
    3. Hiring practices frequently favor long-time acquaintances over talented candidates.
    4. Managers are often hired based on personal connections rather than relevant expertise, impacting team performance.
    5. Employees working standard 9-5 hours are often undervalued compared to those who stay late.
    6. Recognition, bonuses, and appraisals are often based on personal relationships rather than merit.
    7. Mental harassment by managers is increasingly common, along with other forms of workplace harassment.
These practices not only damage employee morale and productivity but also hinder overall growth and innovation. Addressing these issues could lead to a healthier work environment and better outcomes for everyone involved.

    1. Not everyone in your office is your friend, just work, get paid & get lost.
    2. Always love YOUR WORK not your company, you might never know when your company stops living you.
    3. Not everyone person earning 1 lakh/month is successful.
    4. Do not stress your life for work so much that it becomes unbreathable for you.
    5. Your worth is not the hours you spend in working, it’s the time you take to finish that particular work.

Appreciate!! This is a very sensitive matter.... I have also heard about Toxic seniors, but personal development to manuever through challenging times, some times standing up for yourself, keeping your options open, playing smartly also important.
Think of it as playing football and dribbling your ball through other players and progressing towards your goal.

I'm not a MNC employee but a Government employee and sharing my story here with a heavy heart and I knw that things for me will forever be same and there will be no job switch..
    1. There's tremendous favouritism at government office not just in case of who does more work but who provides them money to spare them out of work...on the basis of caste.. Most of the upper level authorities are of "lower caste" and they keep making us feel horrible at our work place.. continuously targeting us, taunting us " are tumhi tar CKP aahat na tumhi tar bhandkhorch asta" I don't know what kind of mentality is this...
    2. There's no sense of respectfully speaking with any person whose standing in front of the upper level authorities they feel they are the gods. They can speak with anyone the way they want to speak and it's our responsibility to listen it without saying a single word even if they say "jast shanpana Karu nakos...tula akkal aahe ka?... Varishtani je sangital te krycha...uth bolala tr uthych, nahitr ghari basych"
    3. I'm a MBA passout and I have joined this respective office a year back and I have learned most of the things and everyone keeps on assigning more and more work to me as they know I can do it but after doing all my work one day my boss said in front of 2 more people "mhitiye kiti kam karates...Kay yet ka tula asach uthun aaliye barobar CKP na tumhi mhanun nuste bhandat asta...kam karta yet nahi" just because I complained against one person who was intentionally harassing me..I cried for 45 mins in washroom and 2-3 women came they told me asach asat aapan manala lavun gheych nahi te kahi hi boltat laksha nahi deych..
What I feel if you expect we to give you respect you should do the same...
Also the peons at our offices keep watch on us...whom we are talking to, where are we going it's nothing but mental torture...!!!
I everyday feel am I making a mistake by doing this job where my aim was to do this job to serve for this country...
Why shouldn't students/ people move to other country if the office culture not just of MNC's but also of government office are so bad...
There are students who waste 7-8 years to get a Government job and what they get is worst mentality people/authorities, election duties, maratha aarkshan duties and what not!!!
What a Government employees go through can never be explained by anyone coz they just want to glorify this one term to get more and more "SERVANTS"
there's alot but I hope that every person of this new generation try to bring that change and treat other people with kindness..

In a company I worked earlier, sometimes there was discussion about people logging in late. However, there was no question/discussion on late log off time. I think it has become common in many offices that if you are logging in late, you are skipping work and if you are logging off late, then you are over working. People should understand their situations and treat everyone the same professional respect.

Employees are compelled to do work of 2-3 people to run their families. Companies are forcing them to do this to book more & more profit & work-life balance? That is myth now.
