Probably the only time I’ll ever say this but I wish there was VAR there
Var can’t rule out a penalty even if it’s a dive , it’s not the most reliable technology.
It depends on the referee that is seeing the images so there always be nonsense decisions which happens a lot .
I prefer football without var , it would make sense if it was only used on clear referee mistakes but that’s not the case.

Yep. Not a dangerous tackle, attacking player had a foot and a half to change direction.
It's a foul
its coming home for this
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shocking decision. I have watched this a million times and still 100% convinced it’s not a penalty. A defender does have the right position on the pitch. Contact was Grosso on Neill not Neill on Grosso. I’m not saying Grosso could necessarily avoided contact but contact does not mean it’s a foul. Watch 0:55-0:56. Grosso left foot had made contact with surface and before his right foot makes contact with surface his left foot moves left while his body is leaning right. That is not a natural reaction. That a reaction to manipulate a penalty and referee fell for it. I don’t necessarily want to say Australia was robbed because we hadn’t really tested Buffon at the other end and no one know what would have happens in extra time. Italy had defended very well limiting Australia. Plus could easily argue Materazzi was wrongly red carded. What I do wonder about is if Kewell and Emerton were available could that have made a difference? Add Popovic who was also injured. His height may have given Italy problems at set pieces.
But also the falling can be intently he ran into Lucas Neil and had like 8 seconds to avoid him but didn’t and that’s what fifa says
Obstruction in box. Penalty.
Neil went on Grosso without even touching the ball. Clear penalty
See the left hand of the Australian defender against the left foot.

There's no way that was ever a penalty.
Grosso literally ran into Neill, looking for contact. Those who claim a penalty should consider if the foul would be given had the contact occured outside the box. There's simply no chance a referee in this day and age would give a free kick for that, let alone a penalty.
If that's not enough, at 0:45, Iaquinta (Italy no15) clearly looks up to the referee as he congratulates Grosso for winning the penalty. Psychology will tell you that's a dead giveaway that they couldn't believe their luck.

Gus Hiddink was the coach of Australia. He was also the coach of the corrupt South Korea team in 2002 who put out, with ref assistance, Portugal, Italy (canceling 1 goal) and Spain (cancelling 2 goals) in particular criminal fashion. It was a bitter defeat for the roos but this result was karma against Hiddink and his participation of theft in 02
I'm Korean, and I have to tell you that there were no single evidences that Korea bribed refrees. I have to admit that the game vs Spain had some serious misjudgements of referee, however, has nothing to do with the scandal. And other games were made completely legitimate judges, which don't deserve to get criticized. Totti obviously dived himself, thus deserved to get a card. No matter what other people say, Hiddink is our hero, and he developed Korean football team from 5-0 loss against France to the 4th rank of world cup 2002, which makes us still pay tribute to him. The miracle of Australia in 2006, although blocked by a cheating of Grosso, also proves that Hiddink is an outstanding coach. He always emphasized effort, willingness, passion, and even RESPECT, therefore your assertion is completely absurd. I don't like generalizing a particular group of whatever it is, but I think Italian football fans need to practice accepting the result. A club of Perugia even dismissed a Korean player just for scoring a goal against their country. Not to mention the intimidation toward him and vandalism to his properties in Italy. How brazen they are. I don't know which nationality you have, but if you're Italian, think rationally about what you guys are believing in related to this topic.

there was never a report performed by fifa for any evidences to be exposed. There is absolutely no way that S Korea progressed having their opposition disallowed 3 legitimate goals, 1 from Italy and 2 against Spain, without underhanded help from referees.
But to help your mind understand better, the referee for the Korea - Italy game is a convicted drug dealer. Thats the kind of referees fifa used to help Korea.
@@user-wj4et6gh5n dude you're just assuming that there was a bribery talking that there must have been an ulterior help by referees. If you wanna prove this, just bring the evidence. If referees wanted to make Korea go through by themselves, that's a problem of referees' fault, not a fault of Korean football team. And I know that Byron Moreno, a referee played at the match vs Italy is a drug man, but that shouldn't become an evidence of bribery. Drugging is drugging, and bribery is bribery. Those should be separated. You're abusing one's personal flaw to justify your opinion.
By the way, I will acknowledge that there were no obvious evidences that Korea didn't give a 'single' black money to the referee. I will apologize about that

Could easily argue it was an indirect free kick and not a free kick and thus penalty for impeding. Call me paranoid but other way around and I highly doubt that decision would be given. But it happens in all sports. Bigger teams will get more favourable decision.
