I was in Florence, Italy the night the Italians won the Cup. One of the craziest and best nights of celebrations in my young life. Car horns honking, fireworks shooting off all night. Went to the bar across the street from my hotel and people we're cheering and singing "We are the champions" by Queen. There was also a huge cake. Great summer!

Italy actually is not able to allow young players to grow, they have too high expectations and too early on them when they reach top clubs being still not ready for that (the only one who is making a good progress is Barella while Kean and Chiesa are on a good path but still far from maturity)... I think England and France have the best selection of young players at the moment while Germany and Spain are struggling to renew the team after a decade of huge results... That Italy was full of 30-years-old players that were all fundamental members of the starting XI of their respective clubs while many actual players struggle for gametime in their clubs... it will take many years to build another selection that will be almost nearly comparable with that one...

this and spain 2010 were the last time teams were truly units on the international stage. after this it was individual players and duos. Lippi is one of the best coaches of all time; he won the world cup and the champions league, he left out certain stars for role players who fit the system better. what a coach and what a team

No, I think current Italy has found a Replacement for Totti in Nicolo Barella. Now Italy just needs to find one/two clean effective Forwards.

Totti was a forward who had to play as an advanced midfielder in that tournament because of his lack of physical shape and rithm caused by a serious injury occurred in February that year from that he was miraculously able to recover while Barella is a central midfielder who is able to defend and to attack as well thanks to his strength and resistance but he lacks Totti or Pirlo's quality in passing the ball (Jorginho and Sensi are actually deputed to do that, as Pirlo was), so it's better not be so focused to find a player that can now replace THAT particular Totti, in that month he was physically forced to be a very atypical player so this makes the work nearly impossible... Barella can probably be considered a Gattuso with much more quality in shooting and passing in his feet, but this quality cannot be compared with Totti's one...

Italy actually is not able to allow young players to grow, they have too high expectations and too early on them when they reach top clubs being still not ready for that (the only one who is making a good progress is Barella while Kean and Chiesa are on a good path but still far from maturity)... I think England and France have the best selection of young players at the moment while Germany and Spain are struggling to renew the team after a decade of huge results... That Italy was full of 30-years-old players that were all fundamental members of the starting XI of their respective clubs while many actual players struggle for gametime in their clubs... it will take many years to build another selection that will be almost nearly comparable with that one...
