I have this kit coming on Monday! I got it as a 60th birthday gift to myself on Feb 14. Last Tamiyas I had were a Falcon and a King Cab back it the late 80s!

Why aren't you using those parts you set aside? What are you doing with the calipers? Do the instructions say to use those or that is just something you know to do? Did it come with an optional front end brace or is that something you brought along? I will buy the steel pinion gear, thanks for pointing that out. And thanks for the advice on multiple screws. Why did you switch the motor? Is there something bad about the one that comes in the kit, or you just wanted more power or energy efficiency or something along those lines? Is the smaller tube at the end a different kind of grease or glue? I couldn't really tell what was happening there. I actually have not built a Tamiya kit, which is why I'm watching build videos.
It's nice that your video is chill and makes the whole thing seem possible. The kits are intimidating if you've never done anything like that.

Hi Celeste! Tamiya kits always come with extra parts. They manufacture the "Parts Trees" so they can use them for different kits, so there are almost always extra parts. The calipers are not necessary, but it makes it easier to measure/put together the steering turnbuckles and other parts. The front end brace is something I installed from other parts I had, I feel like it helps but it isn't necessary. The stock 540 motor is fine, I just wanted more power. The grease is just the standard Tamiya grease that is included with the kit. I hope that answers your questions for now. Please do not be intimidated by the Tamiya kits...they have the best instruction manuals in the hobby. Very detailed and explains almost everything! Let me know if you need anything else!

Been looking to get a Tamiya buggy.... hard to decide between Sand Viper and Neo Fighter... but I may have to get the Neo Fighter kit... partly due to the front shock tower....
Do you think the gearbox on these will hold up to decent power... like 19tor 23t brushed...on 2S lipo?
Don't intend to bash on it, but at least want the few Tamiya kits we add to our collection to be fun to drive around some, not just for shelf/display.
A lot of the racers have "pit mats" with RC co.pany logos on them.... they're yoga mats.... we use the $8 yoga mats amd theu work just great at home and in the pits at the track.... I'd like to find a few bright colored ones like that though...
    Cheers

The dt03 is more stable at high speeds due to the longer wheelbase but can understeer, the DT02 is more nimble but tends to oversteer. I have a Neo Fighter with the carbon shock towers, they definitely are a lot stronger. If your looking for durability I think the dt03 wins easily. The gearbox is the same for both, and yes they can handle a more powerful setup...I am using a reedy sonic 13.5 brushless. It's powerful and smooth. No issues with the gearbox...just use bearings!

Fast Eddy has gone bad with their quality, absolute crap.

I haven't had that experience yet, you have gotten bad bearings from them? The seals? Performance?

@@eekrc After few runs they feel clunky and don't last very long. Some had grease leak.
