- Far Cry 4 is now officially nine years old as it released on November 18th, 2014. Far Cry 4 is my favorite game of the series and it's unbelievable how well the game holds up in 2023. I just wanted to quikcly revisit the game and talk about what I love about it for it's 9th birthday...

This was my first Farcry game and the first game I bought with my Ps4! This game will always have a special place in my heart!

The addition of the grappling hook, vehicle take downs, huge animals, the multiple layers of the map, the Himalayas, and the fortress’s have made me love this game and put it slightly above 3

Don't forget that vehicle shooting also appeared in this game for the first time! The biggest "Far Cry" thing of them all!
Multiple layers and verticality actually wasn't that good in FC4, you literally need like in 90% of times to make the longest possible way to reach your target around a small mountain or hill and even grappling hook doesn't work except a couple of hidden or far locations. And once you have helicopter there is like pure joy of saving hours of your time, free roaming and ejecting yourself on top of the towers or elevated locations.

With the Himalayas and that ambient background music during exploration was something else...my all time favorite
Kyrat in FC4 > FC6.
Mass Effect > All Ubisoft past and FUTURE games combined.
This game holds a special place for me. South Asian cultures were so underrepresented in US media at the time, and Far Cry 4 was so refreshing in that regard.

It’s really amazing how well it holds up against other games like far cry 5 and 6. It may be 9 years old but it still looks amazing today. Happy anniversary to Far Cry 4
After I finished 2 and 3 I wanted to play 4 but I heard people mention how it's literally far cry 3 with a new coat of pain. When I played it that was not the case at all, I was expecting minimal improvements in graphics and gameplay but God damn the graphics in this game hold up as well as Unity. No wonder it became my favorite of the series

yes, this game came out well into the years where games had been looking good for some time.
Baked path traced scenes. Mirrors edge held up well too for a 2008 game
Far Cry 4 was set in my homeland so it'll always have a special place in my heart for how immersive it's world was.

I remember getting this game for Christmas, that’s crazy it’s that old. Probably the best far cry in my opinion
It's the best FC game.
What I love about Far Cry 4 is when in the beginning after the accident you are alone with just a machete. And a search party comes looking for you to finish you. That's where my Far Cry 3 experience kicked in. 😉😎

Pagan Min is the only thing that made me continue the story.
Both the leaders of the Golden path were manipulative AHs, and Ajay was soo gullible to even realise that.
Ajay's father was the true "Villain" in Farcry 4 and succeeded by the new Golden path
A similar arc to fc3 where the Rakyat make you think you should follow them, but with a different setting. The end where you find out Pagan just goes away and gives you his throne kicked hard for me.
Don't forget Yuma (the true villain beside Mohan), she told Mohan about Ishwari and Pagan having a daughter and the rest is history ....
Pagan Min is still very iconic even in 2024.
Far Cry 4 would have to be my favourite Far Cry game out of the series. The world and location, Shangri-La, the story and the amazing soundtrack/music, and most important to me, the amazing stealth and the character of Pagan Min. All of these factors make this game feel so amazingly special to me.
Not to forget the Shanath Arena.
That alone is a game within the game.

It always stunned me with Farcry 4 and 5, both game were filled to the brim with action and violence, yet there were giant stretches of peaceful/serene exploration that I look back on most fondly. This experience has been very hard to find in other game franchises.
rise of the Tomb raider comes to mind , i still enjoy playing that game with all bells and whistles now ...
just finding all the challenges and boxes is a joy ...
playing these older games on a 69'' projector screen in 2K feels amazing ,
find myself just staring and looking around the world with my jaw on the floor most of the time , that these games looked So good
Is FC 5 any good? I'm on the fence on whether to get it or not. I know I'm late but 6 doesn't interest me until I've played 5. I've played every FC game apart from that stone age one.
@@54356776 I really enjoyed 5, it had a very fun exploration element to it. There was some mixed feelings for a lot of people on how the story was set up, but I thoroughly enjoyed play the game.

You either pick soulless cashgrabs set in another time period like ac origins and far cry
They don't feel different at all if you subtract time period change
Then place them near titles like Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Zelda that created trends and entire genre as Fromsoftware did
Or RDR2 level of detail that no game can match
No one talks about ubisoft,ea games because they are bland

I mean it’s fun but the story is kind of bad. Both sides are bad. Pagan uses child labor and the golden path distributes large amounts of heroin.
As a Far Cry fan my first Far Cry game was Far Cry 4. To this day I still remember when I bought the game, and how excited I was when it was downloading on my PS4. It introduced me to the rest of the Far Cry series, and made me fall in love with it even more. And it will always have a special place in my heart.
Ubisoft should combine far cry 2's physics, far cry 3's story and far cry 4's gameplay and also open world both in far cry 2,3,4 are great. So combining them and make a Masterpiece far cry that will make our dream come true.

Far cry 4 was my first far cry. I will never forget how beautiful kyrat was.
Things were good when this game came out, it was my first Far Cry experience. My cousin pre-ordered it and I was visiting, so we ended up going with him to pick it up one day. That day, the whole trip, I won't forget - we had chicken burgers while watching him play the new game on the Xbox 360. He got bored after a while and I was left home alone, being the youngest, and I spent that night messing around in Kyrat. I'll sorely miss those days.

I played this game as a 14year old - 3 years later i was in Nepal helping with water supply in a village in the 2015 earthquake relief effort, in 2018. This game helped make a big part of who i am now. And yes, in the North of Nepal it absolutely looks like this, only more diverse as the mountains are spaced further, allowing for valleys of lush rainforests in the shadow of befrosted peaks. I both left and gained a piece of myself there. Please visit - you will never forget. Trust me.

I got this game bundled with a ps4 in 2014. It’s hard to believe it’s been 9 years already. I loved riding elephants into bases and wreaking havoc. The game also had multiplayer which was extremely fun.
I recently purchased FC5 which I’ve heard good things about. The thing is though, once you’ve rode atop an elephant with an LMG in hand, trampling and shooting everything in sight it’s extremely difficult to top that that gameplay experience. FC4 is incredible.
Far Cry 5 removed a lot of classic features such as the towers, skill points and crafting menu which automatically makes it much worse then 3 and 4 in my opinion.
This game has one of the best worlds I've ever seen in a video game. It's truly Amazing
Not even AC MIRAGE can match Far Cry 4 thats for sure.

I completely agree with you. This FC4 improved the gameplay formula of FC3 well and has a fairly good story that did not have time to degrade compared to the next games in the series. This makes it special and worth mentioning/discussing. Would definitely like to see a big retrospective of Far Cry 4 for its tenth anniversary.

Personally, my favorite Far Cry game. Loved the scenery and loved Pagan Min as an antagonist (?). Favoring either of the rebel faction leaders regardless means you've screwed Kyrat either way.
Kanan Matsuura and Riko Sakurauchi both also a big fan of Pagan min.

I started with Far Cry 3 on Xbox 360 and it was one of my most favorite games for a very long time, the fact that it’s multiplayer was also a perfect mix also meant I came back to it with friends in my living room having a ball of a time, when I finally received far cry 4 it was a few years after it’s release and it blew me away, while I wish I had the opportunity to play all the DLCS at the time when I was younger it’s still a great game and is one of the best games every for me personally especially how great it looked on a console like the Xbox 360.
You awakened my FC3 multiplayer moments, haha. It was great tbh.

I remember getting this on the 360 the year it came out. Time seems to have gone so fast after that year.
One thing that makes me sad is that most of the ambient music during free roam is gone. I turn music off in every other game that i play but the Himalayan setting in the game and the background music just went along finely.
My first PS4 game. There was nothing to play when PS4 came out. Most games were remasters from PS3. It's unbelievable that it was 10 years ago. Feels like yesterday.
FarCry4 was my first ever FarCry game. Bought it for my PlayStation 3 when I was visiting Russia. To me at that time, FarCry4 was one of the best Far Cry games EVER. It was a huge journey, gathering up with my best friend and playing it. I've played FarCry4 with Russian audio + subtitles and I loved it. Ofc it is because I speak that language, but still sometimes I think that the Russian audio is better in some places. Generally, it was a fantastic game.
This game still looks and plays awesome. Finished it like two years ago, so not much have changed.

Man, so good of you to say this. It is really a very underrated game for no reason at all... It is fantastic, as you said, even compared to many of today's new releases... I still do a lot of gameplay's on my channel of far CRY 4, and besides Chess, and Forge of Empires online, it's only game I play.... I wanted to become virtuous in it, so I OBS-s myself in finishing the hardest outpost just with knife takedowns, or silent kills with bow and arrow... and Also I doscovered a map browser with a bunch of great maps and missions... so its really a game you can play for a long time and not get sick of it, and always come back for the experience! You said it right, Pagan rules, Kyrat rules... and I didn't shoot him in the end, or take down his helicopter with an RPG, even after he called me a monkey that is throwing around his shit... He was still a villlain with balls and soul, and I let him go.... And also, if you just wait for him in the beggining of the game, you get to share kingdom with him and you pass the game without even playing it,... that is also a fun fact! Cheers!
Graphically it was mind blowing at the time and still I think it is. Somehow the graphical improvements in the games have slowed down not sure whether it is because we are already too close to realistic graphics or laziness (I think it is the latter).
FC4 and FC5 are my favorite FC games. FC3 is pretty good too but there is just something about FC4 that makes me like it more, I think it's the setting!
And also Pagan Min. Ayumu Uehara and Shioriko Mifune both still have Pagan Min's photo on their handphones.
I remember playing this game when it first came out. It was selling out most places in my town within the first few days of releasing. Also, was my first farcry game. I loved it! A classic for me!
My favorite far cry and one of my favorite games in general. My stepdad just got a PS5 and i plan on replaying it on it soon.
Gameplay wise and depth of story and character development Farcry 3 is best
But Farcry 4 has a special place in my heart because of its stunning visuals, Himalayan environment, animals, local Hindi speaking environment, Bengali-Hindi songs etc
It's debatable. Far Cry 3's story is simple-hero-type and easy to grasp, but feels more rewarding. FC4 is far more complex and deep but the execution was a bit underwhelming due to the annoying characters - Sabal and Amita. Still after playing both multiple times, I feel Far Cry 4 is basically Far Cry 3 perfected and the peak Far Cry.
@@DeepteshLovesTECH complexity does not equate to better. there is a reason why people have more fond memories of WAW over other Cod's with better gameplay. Simplicity with good atmosphere just trumps Gameplay. For me Far Cry 3 hits all that sweet spots over 4, 4 is just too pretentious for it's own good. 3 is the World at War of the franchise, may not be the most complex, but like World at war, it's simplicity made it superior to 4 in everyway in the Heartstrings, it made players FEEL things...
@@princeofdarkness4711 He said that Far Cry 4 fell short compared to 3 because it fumbled execution, he wasn't necessarily saying that it having more complexity makes it better. I wouldn't exactly use WaW as a comparison here. You're right on it being looked back on fondly, and was praised when it released, but compared to previous games (exception of CoD 4) it still has more depth than its predecessors, and even some of its successors.
If you wanted to use CoD as an analogy, your better options would have been Modern Warfare 2 and 3, or MW 2019 to MW2022/3.
@@Pelayum I'm not sure what you mean, my statement still stands, complex gameplay is meaningless if the story itself doesn't make players FEEL a form of "incentive" in their goals. A motivation. Something Far Cry 3 and Waw Mastered compared to the rest of their respective franchises, you may dislike how simple their gameplay is, but man... that feeling drive them to be beloved games.

I was introduced to this game by an old friend of mine when I was in 6th grade a few years after its release. I am still grateful that he introduced me to it, even though I haven’t talked to him since I changed schools
The setting is definitely the best. And I liked the gameplay the most as well from the ones I played. It added just enough to keep it fun after 3 with the shooting out of vehicles and gyrocopter. The missions though are lacking big time. I would still put 3 above it. That game was lightning in a bottle back then and I'm glad I was there to experience it.
This is the first ever far cry game I ever played
This was one of the first FPS games I ever played and I put so much time into exploring and having fun. Even all these years later I’ve come back to it multiple times and it’s still just simply enjoyable.
Forgot to mention that after all these years comunity maps were recently deleted, it was big part of the game
This was my introduction to the franchise. I lost my father the july before launch. The setting this sandbox provides is amazing. I just started up a new game tonight.
I think since FC3 all Far Cry games misses world believability. I felt convinced to the FC3 world, characters, their motivations etc. Later in FC 4 & 5 I missed that feeling and game become more like 'go there and kill these guys'.
After this video I might give it another chance.
replayed it, objectively enjoyed the better gameplay buuuut... well, why do people Choose WAW then any other Call of Duty? The feeling. which Far Cry 3, despite the jank, just hits the notes better. 3 is the world at war of the franchise, you don't need complexity of 4 to be loved, you just need to be 3 and i dig that.
Ah yes, Far Cry 4. Also my favorite in the series. I totally agree with the notion that it's not just a copy paste of FC3, but it took everything FC3 did great, and expanded, evolved and improved on them. The atmosphere.... just magnificent.... also it would be worth mentioning the sound design and the majestic music design that supports this amazing atmosphere. The gameplay is a much more refined and polished version of FC3, and if someone like FC3, I can't understand how one can't like FC4. Now in terms of characters and story, although I mostly agree, I don't give that much attention, as the experience itself is very rewarding of itself. Glad to see more people share these thoughts.
When I played Far Cry 5 I was disappointed how less towns or villages are in the game.
When I played Far Cry 4 again, I was bafeled how many villages are in it. Far Cry 6 exceeded that with little towns, a number of villages and even a beautiful capital city.
I don't like fc4 because story sucks. And I think it did some things worse than 3.

Damn I didn’t realise it was that old man, I remember my dad playing far cry 1&2 on pc, he then got far cry 3 on the 360 when it came out, absolutely loved the far cry franchise as a kid, I’ve just started far cry 5 (only on Xbox series s and I was in awe at the fact it’s the best looking game I’ve played in a while and it’s nearly 6 years old) and it had me thinking about far cry 4 so I paused the game and came for a nostalgia trip and this was the perfect video to watch.

This game shows that game development is probably nearing as good as it can possibly look. The leap from 2004 to 2014 was day and night but this game looks like it could’ve came out last year and it’s 9 years old
Actually graphics feels dated if you look close, but it doesn't matter. The ART and colors of this game is what actually makes it look so decent. It has even that nice detail, when area starts covering in a shadow when clouds start covering the sun, and you can see the shadow moving.
Someone really nailed every little detail to make it so lush and fancy.

It is same for me. My first Far cry game. I played it on PS3 for 4 times, got everyting complete and it was just beautiful! Love this game. One of my strongest gaming memories.

This was the first far cry game I ever owned and played. It was at a time where I was going through many changes in life, and this game was perfect for the time I was going through as it was just as unique as real life. I miss this game, and am definitely going to pick it up again.

I remember getting this game as one of my first games on my ps4.. I remember making friends with people who I still talk to today on there..
I remember talking to my cousin and grandmother about playing this game when I was 14. I'm in my 20s now, my cousin is a manager of a store and my grandmother has passed away, but this game will always remind me of those simpler times.
Farcry 4 and Primal are my 2 favorites in the series, 5 had so much potential... I loved the story and setting it was just ridiculously way too easy
Love this game. Kyrat always holds a special place in my heart. I was a junior at the university of Alabama and kyrat was my escape.

far cry 4 was also my favorite far cry. I remember when we played it through with my friend when I was at his place over the weekend back in the day. It would be super cool if there would be new far cry in similar area. The Himalayas have such amazing atmosphere.
I got this game back in the day along side my GTX 970 Graphics card and its still my favorite entry in the series. People love to hate on it because "its just a Far Cry 3 reskin" but when you play Far Cry 3 and 4 one after the other at least I really appreciate the many refinements they made.

Man FC4 was my 2nd ever far cry game. Replayed it a couple times.
Only it and FC3 were the far cry games where I considered stealth approaches where as with 5, 6, and 2 I just went guns blazing.

Here because of Lukes mod. Only started to get into the Far Cry series only now because of VR. This one looks real good! Far cry is a blast in VR i tellya 🤙 Gonna def try this one next. Visuals look damn good for a 9 year old game.

This game is my favorite game or all time. I went through a very tough period in my childhood when I first played this it always made me feel happy, adventerous, and comfortable. Its such a beautiful game with phenomenal gameplay and story. I replay this game every year and it always makes me feel so happy and like i'm a kid again. Its my favorite game of all time and to me its perfect.
This game is amazing. The story is engaging, Pagan Min is fantastic, and the setting is just breathtaking. And let's not forget about the side activities - they add a whole new level of excitement to the experience!

9 years passed by like it was nothing, it feels like yesterday that I went and got this game for xbox360 and the funny thing is I remember my mom being mad because there was this part of the map that women were top less and she would give me the look everytime I played the game😂

This game deserves a remaster with more explorable areas and an alternative storyline when Ajay sides with Pagan.
I don’t listen to it a lot but this game introduced me to the song ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go?’ when I was little.
you nailed it! Far Cry 4 is my favorite as well. Far Cry 4 added new mechanics to the game that have now become part of every Far Cry. The location is by far the best in the series. We really need Kyrat 2.0

The Auto HDR and higher frame rate on the series X make it look even more amazing than it already did to me when I played it on the 360. The lighting looks amazing on the series X.
