I wanted to clear up some confusion about John’s J160e part: he was plugged into an amp, and his vocal mic picked up some of his acoustic strumming too Dom graciously recorded both his amp and his acoustic. So what you’re hearing here is a blend of the two. I hope that helps!
Man, George was truly a genius...When his guitar playing is isolated, you realize great he was...I'm a huge gigantic Beatles fan and all those years of watching clips of their concerts and listening to their music, you tend to enjoy the music and or watching how they perform on stage, you never think about the details of their playing, especially George's...With the advent of youtube, people are covering their songs in intimate details and you realize what geniuses they were...If only George and John was till here today.. Thanks Sam, for sharing..It was awesome..
It's like magic watching you play this and seeing the chords! I was blown away by this sixty years ago as a fourteen year old and among many other Beatles songs and the British invasion it definitely sparked my interest in the guitar. Thank You So Much!!
George’s playing on this song is so beautiful. All the little parts he plays are what makes this song so beautiful for me. I don’t understand why he didn’t like his early sound with the Gretsch, I feel like I prefer that a bit over his Stratocaster sound, and that’s saying something because I love strats.
This is the earliest Beatles song you’ve covered on your channel. And both of y’all really kicked ass here! Is it wrong that I’ve listened to it several times already? Congrats on the new Gent, too! I see good things coming in the future.
Эта песня Битлз сильно впечатлила меня и стала одним из моих самых ярких впечатлений детства. Это было лет 40 назад, когда мне было 7 лет. Всем счастья, с любовью из России ♥️☀️
Fascinating - the guitars have an almost surf-rock thing going, which isn’t at all apparent from hearing the track as a whole (could be significant that “Surfin’ USA” entered the UK charts a couple weeks before it was recorded).
I don't think John's vocal mic picked up the acoustic sound of the J-160E. I didn't even know until my teens that he even played it; I always thought it was the Rick.
Yeah I might’ve played with more emphasis than George on this. But what you hear is mostly Dom’s J160 into an amp. He included the mic on his to emulate John’s vocal mic bleed
@@sampopkin Would your next cover be CBML, ICI, IGY, Paperback Writer, or Rain with the Gretsch Country Gentleman? John used his Gretsch on Paperback Writer/Rain Single. In the liner notes, Paul plays guitar on his Casino on both Paperback Writer/Rain
You’re not playing the right notes on the 4 note run by George towards the end. It’s a run to E minor so your 3rd note should be E2 not E3. Only the 1st note is E3 because you are in G there. Also not enough emphasis on those strums into Em, Bm and D. I believe that’s Lennon doing those. His style. Listen to the isolated tracks to get the Lenno unique strumming right. Time for a complete redo over.

That riff George plays just before John and Paul come in is so cool and effective.
encapsulates the quiteessential sound of the beatles
Theres a live version where George play it with his 12 string and sounds amazing
Yes, as well as that descending lick that accompanies the line "and you know that it can't be bad"
That's one of the reason I picked up the guitar and own a Gretsch Country Classic/Gentleman and some VOX amps.
In fact it's Smoke On The Water!
George’s part after “you knoooow you shooould…” is absolutely the perfect lead guitar part. Hard to imagine it came from a pop band.
The Beatles were not a pop band they were a Rock 'n' Roll band
@@dominicgeaves5697my point still stands
@@dominicgeaves5697 Rock 'n' Roll was pop until the late sixties. Pop is short for popular music, isn't it?
It really illustrates the magic of 2 guitars playing different inversions of the same chords. Well done!

Everyone else has covered all the good stuff here, I'll just add I'm glad to see you have the "Lennon bounce" going while playing rhythm guitar.
Its kinda hard to play John's part on several songs unless you do the bounce!
wow, the gretsch sounds too perfect for me to like them

I was right there with you as a 14-year-old. An amazing time no one who ws not there can understand. Mind blowing, wasn't it?
Country gent looks amazing and sounds just the same! Keep up the great work Sam and Dom!
Outstanding Job fellas

Unless I'm mistaken, the only other Beatles song where the lead guitar echoed the vocal was She Said She Said.

see you’ve acquired a new weapon 👀👀 can’t wait for more videos with the Country
Congrats on the country gent! Sounds amazing. Also great to see Dom back on the channel.
I finally understood John's strumming.

I always love hearing such clear instruments on these earlier tracks where the vocals are usually so prominent in the melody and the mix!
Awesome cover, Sam! You guys did an excellent job, and I must say, what a nice guitar you have on your hands! Sounds killer too
It’s just beautiful. One of my favorite songs of all time even
Nice arrangement Thanks for sharing.
What a fantastic cover have a wonderful day also a good weekend
Brilliant, great performance. Thanks :)
Congratulations for this very nice acoustic and electric guitar cover, Sam !
Congrats Sam, that was fabulous!! Keep sharing!

Yeah I love the new Country Gentleman!
Oh yeah!
Absolutely great. I’ve discovered your channel about a month ago and I’m so glad i did!! I love your accurate work on each Beatles cover 👏🏻
Woaw, Gretsch Country Gentleman. I wish you would get Rickenbacker 325 and your beatles' gear will be completed.
Me too, but then I’d need a Gretsch Duo Jet, Hofner, Rick 4001, Jazz Bass, J160 haha
👏👏👏👍 Sam
Lmao, I'm Ina band and needed a reference video for this song. Perfect timing!
Need some more collaboration the 2 best
out of all the songs..
this is why I love your covers
👌👌👌
George! Hands down the best beatle
Great sound as always! Great job to both of you!
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!
Keith Richards will never recover from this ! These are chords man 👍🏻✌🏻
Amazing video!
Awesome, Sam and Dom!
Amo esa guitarra, y vaya que bien tocas, saludos desde México
Early Beatles guitar cover request: I Saw Her Standing There. 👍🎵
Superb!
Thank you so much!
Thank you!!
Nice cover lads, love the gent!
Oh that gretsch is looking amazing
And sounding awesome too
Mmm, *"That great Gretsch sound!"*
Oh, and the j160e is nice too!
Sounds great!
Great to see an early one!
Amazing as always!! :)
Amazing playing as always! It’s funny because I was just trying to learn this song too! :)
Great Video
Nice country gentleman, I thought you would cover this with your tennessean pretty unexpected.
2:07😊😊😊
Amazing!
Can you cover I've got a feeling next time?
❤

Photographs from the SLY and IGY sessions show John on the J160E
I might have overdone the acoustic bleed mic when mixing Dom’s J160, but I do hear it a little on the original
❤
I always thought it was Em to A7 at start. But I don’t know because it’s hard to make out the guitars on the song.
Yeah it was hard to decipher
00:59 Very nice..
I believe the J160 was not miked, but through an amp, and that George’s part was much more minimal

How did you avoid copyright?
Thanks! Including isolated tracks in the background instead of the actual mp3 of the song helps usually

What in the hell was that third chord from the end?🤯
You can see George doing that in live clips. It’s a C Major, C lydian with the F#, C Major again, then G
