George was a genius. He added so much, and I think doesn't get the credit he deserves. And he usually would hear the songs after L/McC had time to write them. George was in the studio under that pressure. A vastly underrated achievment
John himself wrote that it took lots of time for him to consider George a true member of the group, or more than just a kid who would come along and play with the rest. Ironically Ringo and George were the ones who most regretted the breakup of The Beatles.

The Gibson J-160E is actually an acoustic-electric guitar, and it was played through an amplifier on many of these songs (most notably on "I Feel Fine"). I’ve seen some people opine that the J-160E is more of an electric guitar that can be played unplugged than an acoustic guitar that can be amplified, if that makes sense.
Spot on description! If I may respectfully compliment you on your thumbnail: You are as pretty as your comment is sensitive. You're doing the D chord on John's part wrong. If you watch old footage he plays a normal D chord but puts his pinkie finger on the F# on the D string. So a D with an F# bass I guess. He uses that D version a hell of a lot, I believe it was down to him learning banjo chords when first starting out.
Hey mate!! Nice video. I wanted to ask if in the second chord of the opening riff did George actually place his pinkie on the 2nd string of the 8th fret. Thanks by the way!!!
Great video! D7 is the correct chord, as it is the dominant chord of the key (G major) Here’s a theory question: One of the most distinctive chords in the song, the C minor, doesn’t normally belong in the key of G major. Normally it would be a C major. What’s the deal with the C minor? It sounds amazing!
It's the 4 chord but minorized, very common in a lot of songs-- especially early Beatles. Nowhere man, Till there was you, Hold me tight, in my life. Basically that sound that goes from major to minor that you hear in a lot of songs. Works well for tying a slight melancholic sound to a tune.
One of the MANY wonderful things that made the Beatles so great .. throwing out rule books of the day just enough to tug on the ear, and reinventing modern music in the process.
Middle 8 Music They didn't invent that. It's a very old technique used by songwriters many years before. It would've been considered old fashioned by most rockers. The Beatles' songs, in terms of melody and harmonic structure, had more in common with pop songs from the 1930s-50s than rock music of the 60s. On the final Yeah of the intro, they're singing a 6th chord. George Martin asked them if they really wanted to do that because it was like Glenn Miller music and old fashioned. "It's new to us" was their response. They weren't afraid to take ideas from the past or from other genres to mix with rock to create their own unique sound.
D7 not "Banjo" D major with the F# for John? How odd. That Banjo D was a John staple.
