This movie isn't just sad. It's a tragedy. Dealing with grief and trauma in a very deep and dark way. And someone who is mentally unstable going through that is a recipe for disaster. The psychotic breakdown as the story progressed is something very few actors could pull off.
It’s a unique trend at the moment with these more "grounded and realistic" re-imaginings of the DC universe. It really started with Nolan’s Batman trilogy, which placed Batman in a more realistic setting, depicting Gotham as Chicago, stripping away the more comic book-like elements, and trying to situate Batman in our world. This approach continued with Man of Steel (2013), and now with The Joker. While these films are great in their own right, I wouldn’t recommend viewing them as canonical takes on these characters because so much has been removed to fit them into a "realistic world." Instead of adapting the DC universe to live-action, they’ve adapted it to our reality. This film is basically a backstory the Joker from the comics would make up while in Arkham Asylum. *Joker Age Gap:* In most renditions, the Joker is only about 5 to 10 years older than Batman. Bruce leaves Gotham around the age of 18 to travel the world and train, returning at 25 to become The Batman during his first year. So, during their initial interactions, the Joker would be between 30 and 35-not that much older. Before he became the Joker, he was known as the Red Hood. His transformation into the Joker occurred during a botched robbery at Ace Chemicals when Batman showed up, leading to the Red Hood falling into a vat of chemicals, resulting in his iconic look. I can’t say for sure when this happened, but it was early in Batman's career, likely during his first year. The Joker doesn’t wear white makeup; his face is actually bleached white, along with his green hair. In fact, it’s often the other way around. He sometimes wears skin-toned makeup to hide his identity and dyes his hair back to its natural brown. Additionally, the Joker has no connection to the death of the Waynes, so this film puts its own spin on the character. *Gotham Lore:* Gotham is indeed its own city, often depicted as being located in New Jersey. It consists of three main islands, with everything beyond that classified as Gotham County. There’s also Blüdhaven, a sister city to Gotham, similar to how New Jersey relates to New York City. In terms of its location on a map, many sources place Gotham in the Great Bay, just north of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Imagine three islands in the middle, connected by bridges. That’s where Gotham City is situated according to some interpretations. While each rendition of Gotham can vary, it is very much rooted in New Jersey. The reason some people may think of Gotham as essentially being New York is that films like Nolan’s trilogy depicted it as a more typical, everyday city, lacking its unique Gothic Revival and Art Deco architecture. The layout didn’t change much either; Gotham in The Dark Knight resembled Chicago, while in the Joker it's very much just 1980s New York City. However, if you watch films like The Batman (2022) or the earlier Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), or play any of the Arkham games like Arkham City, you’ll quickly see that Gotham is very much its own distinct city. @charcoalberries819 thanks but MOS 2013 was Canon and start of DCEU ( DC Extended universe ) which has just closed with Aquaman 2 and now we are waiting for a new Superman movie under DCU ( a new shared universe ) as well under DC Studios however Joker 2 is under Else world ( Story ) universe
In the comic book called "The Killing Joke" the Joker says "If I'm going to have a past I'd prefer it to be multiple choice." Great reaction to this movie! Please react to The Batman (2022)!
@@hearts4b1llzo I have already seen the film, I came here to see her reaction to it. Joker 🃏 (2019) is one of my favorite Joker with Joaquin Phoenix with a true ending. 👍🏽🃏❤️ I’m glad Joaquin Phoenix won the Golden Globe, SAG Awards, Critics Choice, BAFTA, and an Oscar for his performance as Joker. Imagine if he played a different version of Joker in Matt Reeves’ Batman with Robert Pattison (Bruce Wayne/ Batman), Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman), Paul Dani (The Riddler), Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth) and Colin Ferrell (Oz/ The Penguin) no sequel ruining it existing 👎🏽
The Batman with Rober Pattinson is not set in the same world as The Joker, the Jok3r is its own world not connected to other Batman Films, it just uses the Characters from The Batman world
Yeah, it's idiotic. So many avenues the story could have gone down if they had set it in the present or much closer to the present. Just aping Scorsese films from the same period too much. Lame.
I have a recommendation. It's a very deep and well written anime. It takes place in medieval times. And it has some "horror" to it. Like people want it cancelled kind of horror. Its called Berserk 1997. Normally I would say watch the Japanese version with English subtitles but this show has an excellent English dub so watch it in English. Here is a summary. It's about an orphan named Guts who gets raised by a mercenary group. They teach Guts nothing except how to fight. As a result, Guts has no life purpose, no goals, no dreams. He just earns money as a mercenary for survival. Guts ends up becoming good friends with a man named Griffith who is his opposite. Griffith knows exactly what he wants in life and is very ambitious and working hard for his dream. I think you can tell just from this summary that it's a deep show.
The Batman starring Robert Pattinson is worth the watch. It feels more like a dark, gritty detective noir. And, we get more good acting from Pattinson.
Every time I watch Joker 2019 on my laptop I follow it with The Batman 2022 to make believe that they are connected though they are not. Although next month, there will be a sequel to Joker and it will be about him and Harley Quinn.
That was great. You and the movie. Keep it up. Won’t break my heart if you never do another superhero movie… but I might watch, just because you make me laugh. You amuse me. Like a friggin clown. 🙃👍😬
Whatever you do, please DO NOT react to that God-awful, disturbed, nasty, depressing, hard-to-watch, lazy writing, so-called “sequel” . That terrible, inappropriate Too-much-nudity-in-The-Hangover-Installments director Todd Phillips did my man Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) so dirty in this throughout the film. I really hated the ending of it and the whole film. Not because it was a musical. I understand why. I prefer the standalone Joker 🃏 (2019) the true ending of Arthur Fleck’s story.
How often do you comment mysogynistic demeaning unkind and unnecessary comments on videos of women? Holy shit you’re so insecure and honestly cruel. Get over yourself and accept people and stop with your impossible standards on normal innocent people who are right jist the way they are

Exactly. Joker may be one of the only characters to not really have a "canon" backstory. So fascinating. :)

Camryn: "Joker" is the saddest movie I've ever seen.
"The Green Mile" (1999): Hold my cornbread...
"We Need To Talk About Kevin" (2011)

Like Dandelion Dust
OR
Funny Games (the original, preferably)
