@@REAPER1818666 It also had some great David The Robot scenes, and the last 20 mins were pretty much a remake of Alien (done worse of course). Try rewatching the actual shit in the alien and predator series. I loathe AVP Requiem with passion.
What's sooo bad about covenant??? Yes it wasn't the best alien film that's always the first one but I think it done a smashing job at introducing a new generation to fear the xenos or endomorphs. I felt the pace was spot on and the chest burster scene literally had me screaming in the cinema the med bay ost had ridley Scott written all over it very tense stuff. It had this great sense of dread and had enough information dumps in sensible places to keep it from going stale. If you don't enjoy it for its tensions and horror it's story should have sold you at least because it was soo interesting to me filled in some gaps I've had over the years it's atleast an 8/10 imo and the ost was 10/10 soo much suspense.
I love how the predalien has so much potential but in the end it only ends up with two people in crappy rubber suits beating the life out of eachother, a bad expansion pack, or a disappointing boss fight
With all the pointless remakes coming out recently someone really needs to remake the first 2 AVP games. Probably be a licensing nightmare but I'd buy em.
@@MasterCrumble I actually enjoyed the game for what it was, even though it had a lot of flaws. I know generally it is regarded as a mediocre game but I found the campaigns pretty fun, and some of the online modes were decent.
@@lordthruxawe504 Yeeeeeah, it wasn't really doing anything offensive so get your blood boiling, but it could have been so easily fixed with some retouches (or just more work put into it). The same could be said for Colon Marines. :P
What I loved the most about AvP (2010) was the Infestation mode in the Pyramid in a full lobby. That was fun, especially when you were with a group but the walls separated you, shots were fired, then a scream from the Marine character and no longer being able to hear your teammate who was now on the enemy team.
You criminally understated the multiplayer, especially the improvements made to it in Primal Hunt, such as lowered energy cost for pred cloaking, predaliens getting headbite (they lacked this in the base game), stun only reducing movement speed instead of paralyzing you and arguably the 365 motion tracker for Corps. The new weapons (dual pistol, energy flechette and deployable turrets) were pretty fun too, with the former two actually being viable primaries in MP. Multiplayer was definitely the lifeblood of this game, as it was for the base game, which is still going I believe. Sadly the source code for PH was never released, so they couldn't mod a new master server when Sierra killed it. RIP Primal Hunt MP, best Predator game experience to date.
I just happen to have re-watched your Alien vs Predator 2 review some days ago and finished both the original and Primal Hunt yesterday, well at least the "human" campaigns because I couldn't bring myself to play the other campaigns more than 5mins without getting bored (or a headache). I was really pleased overall with the game (especially when you recognize that "NoOneLivesForever" style) and I would argue 90% of the fun came from the quite impressive arsenal which is given to you : a Pulse Rifle that FEELS just right, a Grenade Launcher with multiple rounds types, a SmartGun that will save you more than once... I just kinda felt like the game was totally unbalanced : considering waves of ennemies constantly rush at you, the best answer is usually the Flame Thrower or the SmartGun (no need to aim at each target individually) while the Pulse Rifle remains your primary thanks to the abundance of ammunition...oh and the mini-gun against armored aliens. Which means you'll pretty much never use the Rocket Launcher, neither the Sniper Rifle (unpractical and given WAY too late). You could even argue the Shotgun isn't that great since it's almost impossible to avoid taking damage when fighting at close range and even the Grenade Launcher is hard to make good use of considering that when you hear aliens, it's already to late to start firing grenades at them (exept with you wish to hurt yourself in the process). My guess is that these weapons where a lot of fun to play with in Multiplayer, which, sadly, I couldn't try.
To be honest, I enjoyed this expansion pack for what it was. I was so much of a fan of AVP2 that just having an expansion pack was a nice bonus. And I liked the characters (Dunya, etc).
Remaster? AvP2 will never get one due to the whole Monolith and Fox shenanigans. And now even more so due to the rights to both Alien and Predator getting into the hands of DISNEY.
Loved this expansion pack. Always wanted to play as Predalien and prefer it over the regular Alien. Had the game all in French though, so it was a bit difficult to understand everything.
One of my favorite quotes from multiplayer gaming came from a guy in AvP2. "lol praetorian" For context I had just joined the server and picked the alien praetorian as my class. For more context I proceeded to turn into a one bug wrecking crew, destroying both enemy teams. lol praetorian indeed. (For those of you who played the game and want an argument as to why anyone would pick the one alien without wall climbing or leap, when you actually break down what the the praetorian has it becomes an obvious engine of destruction in closed spaces. While lacking leap it runs faster than a drone, has the melee damage of the queen, and has enough hp and armor to tank through any small arms fire. The only things I found that could stop me were miniguns and sniper rifles, everything else was effectively food if you kept out of wide open spaces which was easy if you knew the maps.)
@@necromancy5032 A back pedaling pred with a plasma caster was definitely one of the things that could reliably bring down a praetorian. The secret to dealing with them is to run away, if they chase you into an air duct then they earned the charged tail whip that's come'n to 'em.
I remember when playing the AvP2 multiplayer about a year ago or so I was on the Predator team and it was a full lobby. I was a light Predator while 3 of my other teammates were Assault, Normal, and heavy. We were all on the ground taking out the aliens and marines that were surrounding us. We had each other’s back so well, we became untouchable for the entire match. It was a truly badass moment, even nostalgic. I would love to play the multiplayer again sometime soon when I fix my laptop.
I agree, we do need a remaster of AvP2 asap. Im still kinda shocked that after 20 years all we got is AvP 2010 and Colonial Marines... Evac Alley(even tho it was a community map) was hands down the greatest multiplayer experience that ever existed.
this is what so many games are missing today that lore deep detail, gameplay that reflects your favorite cinima/book. Starfield recently was described as -It's a mile wide and an inch deep . I miss that era of good gaming and I read everywhere people also miss it. This game along with/multiplayer, 2010 AVP was amazing, however this one wins in that dark 90s fps shooter, I remember sweating even as a predator cause it was so damn scary haha wait im the monster
I'm surprised AvP2 hasn't been remastered and put on Steam by now. I have all three games on their original discs (AvP, AvP2 and Primal Hunt) and loved them back when they were great (with the exception of PH, of course).
Everybody seems to love playing as the Predator or Marine, but I've always preferred the Alien. He's my favorite of the 3, and scaling walls, sneaking through vents and inner-jaw punching through people's heads is too BADASS!! Alien all the way!!
AVP2 was dope when it came out, we use to play it all the time in 7 v 1 matches (one predator vs 7 alien\marines or mix like 2-3/4-5) There was one really cool mutliplayer mode, in first game I think, where you play as marines and wait for reinforcement and you get attacked by bunch of AI aliens, Starship Trooper style.
small correction Gman, the alien you evolve into in the base AVP2 alien campaign is a warrior, not a drone. The Xeno from the 1979 film is considered a drone.
I loved the Predator campaign, the plasma caster was given the weight it deserves as a weapon, something super rare in the predator games I've played since.
I LOVED AvP 2 the original. I remember jumping at everything in the first level of the marine campaign and when that pipe breaks through the ceiling I yelped and put a burst of pulse rifle rounds into it. I gotta fire this up again.
In the gameplay of the background i see good FPS skills, use of space, prediction of enemy attack patterns and good knowledge of the weapons behavior, after long time playing a lot of FPS games one start to notice and learn these things wich is also a design and mechanics lesson.
I played the base game god knows how many hours and had totally forgotten about the expansion. thanks for the memories even though they weren't so good.
Thank you gman for this, just set up AvP2 and played few rounds... it felt like nothing compared today ;-) AvP1 scares me till today, AvP2 was a cake walk compared to it :-)
Just an FYI about the mouse problem, I bought an old PS/2 optical one off eBay that eliminates the zigzagging completely as far as I can tell. Now you can download the server patch and have no excuses to not play online
the first avp fps game won game of the year in gamespot. its sad fox was bought though because this was a big earner for them. the game saved the whole series so its gonna be coming back soon enough. some of you never played it dont even know bro, its a BEAST ass game. like if this shit came out for phones..the first one, and had multiplayer even for 50 dollars i would buy it. gamestop said it was the scariest game ever made. its so scary you just get tired of being scared after like 3 mins and dont give a damn anymore.
I saved a crapload of files for AVP2. I picked up a redone dell computer with XP for 58 bucks on Ebay. Its just for the game. I got it loaded. Ive got many mods and maps and a ton of single maps. Ive been getting them all loaded. I got my mod manager running as well. My id here is 9thcmd our old AVP2 clan. Our Multimod and multipak work. Ive got the Pilot mod, Redmod3, Armageddon mod, Star Wars mod, Projam, Utter Chaos and more. Xenocommand single player was always a blast. I got my crab cracker mod for the pred dart gun running today. I forgot its like a dart machine gun. I play mostly hand to hand against alien AI as a pred. I never was big on campaigns. Ive got hundreds of maps. I tried saving all I could back in the day. Im not doing any update stuff except i had the 109.6 saved too. Its going to stay as is now that its going. Im not putting any patches in. Running in its original glory.
I 200% agree with a remaster... I loved the hell AVP2. The first time I ever went through the alien hive near the start was one of the most stand moments for me in my formative years of gaming.
When this came out in Germany, one of the bigest PC review magazines quotet it as "das Abzock Add On", which means "the rip-off Add On". They were especially angry about the value for money you got out of it. About 4-5 hours for 20 Euros. They didn´t go like "hmm...jaaah, bad game, extremely short, big publisher/dev, lets give it 60/100. No, they rated this as scam, and gave it an extreme low rating (can´t remember how bad it was). What a good time back than, were even the print media destroyed your game, when you try to scam gamers...long gone...
its just the usual... gmanylives bitching about things that was accepted and common in that time, hard enemies with the same weapons as we have and whitout nerfed.
I've actually got both AVP 2 and Primal Hunt installed off the discs, it works just fine on Windows 10. Only drawback is on the cinematics long dialogue always cut in half, so I use the subtitles. I didn't have to make any adjustments to the game at all.
Wait. Only one sentry? I distinctly recall getting a total of three at the time... That aside, yea. It really wasn't up to par with the core game. It did have some neat ideas, like being able to use and place your own Sentries (even if they overheat).
AVP 2000 is definitely "playable" but the default 120fps cap is way too high. Everyone moves around like they're on amphetamines and often times you can accidentally push enemies 30 feet when just trying to melee them.
This game was downright amazing, and took up a good amount of time when I was at college. It even somehow managed to hook in two of my roommates after they watched me play it for a bit. Of course, none of us played the single player stories.. but we all jumped on a server with other people and had a good time of it for hours. We even got the expansion, but we only got it for what it added to the multiplayer.. which was.. I forget what. I sucked with anything but the marine though.. or the mercenaries, I guess...... the two human groups. Loved the minigun and the fact you could walk around with the barrels pre-spun.. didn't care if it was noisy. Loved the rocket launcher. Loved prox mines for the grenade launcher. Loved the shotgun when using slugs.. screw buckshot. However, I remember thinking it was kinda cheap that the mercs had a 360 radar while the marines were stuck with 180. Regardless.. good memories, man.
This doesn't just make me miss Alien vs Predator game, but licensed games in general. I am sceptic but looking forward to the new Terminator for that single reason, thx for video Gman!
Had no problems launching this game...what are you talking about? Couple of patches and done! People are still playing AvP 2 multiplayer...and it is still lots of fun!
Hey Gman!!! this was an awesome review. So listen i have to ask you how is the turok evolution review coming along???? are you still making it??? or you just gave up cause you could not take it anymore and it was making you feel sick????
I remember back in HS I installed AVP1 and Q3A on quite a few of my school computers just so me and a few of my buddies would jump on them during lunch and go against one another. It was fantastic.
YES AvP2 IS where it's at! It had so much action and atmosphere AND the quasi James Horner soundtrack, it was utterly perfect--all it needed in this day and age is better AI and a graphic upgrade.
Also to spam more comments.. but I feelt one thing that shines is how all the 3 campaignes in both Classic and Primal hunt.. Are side by side.. As you meet eachother character.. Reason why The Primal hunt predator Is a prequal is cause the Facehugger that takes him is the one you play as in the predalien campaigne.. You burst out of your own self more or less.. ^^
Completely have to agree on everythign you said about AvP 2 ! It's serioulsy the best Movie to Game Adaption I have seen in my whole life ! Just played it again a month ago, was absolutely no problem to run on my PC :)

Primal Hunt is like AVP (the movie) and AVP Requiem of the AVP series. >_> Covenant wasn't even that bad.
@@MasterCrumble covenant was a generic horror film with xenos thrown in
@@REAPER1818666 It also had some great David The Robot scenes, and the last 20 mins were pretty much a remake of Alien (done worse of course). Try rewatching the actual shit in the alien and predator series. I loathe AVP Requiem with passion.
@@MasterCrumble yeah they are terrible
AVP 2010 already feels like a remake. And it felt too much like a console game of the time. Sweet graphics though.
@@MasterCrumble AVP was a terrible game, there wasnt much to do. No leveling or customization. Multiplayer was broken af.
Just ordered the original AvP2 cd rom to play on my windows 98 pc, can't wait! Schwack!!!
Remaster? AvP2 will never get one due to the whole Monolith and Fox shenanigans. And now even more so due to the rights to both Alien and Predator getting into the hands of DISNEY.
Fucking hell that's sad. Disney owns Alien and Predator. What kind of world is this...
@@Sgt_Glory Monolith and Fox shenanigans? what exaclty does that mean?
@@shagal2142 I'm sure @Commander Bohn can explain better, they're the one that mentioned it.
@ A good thing, but wouldn't that result in a even more horrid creature than the Mouse itself?
Plus Sega owning the rights to the Alien IP for games.
Loved this expansion pack. Always wanted to play as Predalien and prefer it over the regular Alien. Had the game all in French though, so it was a bit difficult to understand everything.
Am I the only one who finds the aliens arms flailing around when it attacks hilarious?
One of my favorite quotes from multiplayer gaming came from a guy in AvP2.
"lol praetorian"
For context I had just joined the server and picked the alien praetorian as my class.
Respect to people who could pull off praetorians. Bunny hopping runners on the other hand can still eat dicks, to this day.
CrutchCricket They’re easily disposable when you’re a Predator though.
AvP2 was one of my favourite games back in the day. Its great! The multiplayer was amazing also.
For some reason this makes me want to replay F.E.A.R. and it's expansion packs.
I have all 3 but I haven't played them yet. Still worth playing today?
@@drumyogi9281 It's been a few years, but the first two and the expansion packs are definitely worth playing. The third one... meh.
I was just playing F.E.A.R. today. So much fun, slo-mo jump kicking people! Make sure you fix DirectInput so it doesn't lag like crazy.
Makes sense since Monolith developed both base games.
The 360 / ps3 AvP game is underrated - it had the best Predator and Alien campaigns of the series
this is what so many games are missing today that lore deep detail, gameplay that reflects your favorite cinima/book.
I was a praetorian main here. I played the hell out of this game for so many years. loved being huge and so armored
The only thing I love more than good graphics
Is old graphics except the lighting is phenomenal and it runs as smooth as butter
Spent many hours stalking marines in this, I was a strange kid 😂
@Ian Robertson You seriously called them yautja? Lol bruh
@Ian Robertson Y I K E S @ you
Did somebody say remake
*takes out AvP for the Xbox 360*
Would like to see his take on it 😁
@@OverlordZephyros He recorded one five years ago: th-cam.com/video/y7c3U2cKFUE/w-d-xo.html
A remaster would be amazing to play. Completely agree.
small correction Gman, the alien you evolve into in the base AVP2 alien campaign is a warrior, not a drone. The Xeno from the 1979 film is considered a drone.
In the game those are called Drones. Even in multiplayer. Yes while the head design is clearly a Warrior this still call it a drone.
I loved the Predator campaign, the plasma caster was given the weight it deserves as a weapon, something super rare in the predator games I've played since.
avp2 + expansion needs a gog release soooo bad
I LOVED AvP 2 the original. I remember jumping at everything in the first level of the marine campaign and when that pipe breaks through the ceiling I yelped and put a burst of pulse rifle rounds into it. I gotta fire this up again.
AVP2 needs to be on GOG
13:24 I love the alien heads flying off in this game. My only gripe is that I can't kick them around.
In the gameplay of the background i see good FPS skills, use of space, prediction of enemy attack patterns and good knowledge of the weapons behavior, after long time playing a lot of FPS games one start to notice and learn these things wich is also a design and mechanics lesson.
"...a couple of assholes doing the dirty work..."
Yup that's what assholes are for...at least mine is.
I played the base game god knows how many hours and had totally forgotten about the expansion. thanks for the memories even though they weren't so good.
Keep this good content coming man!
Thank you gman for this, just set up AvP2 and played few rounds... it felt like nothing compared today ;-)
AvP1 scares me till today, AvP2 was a cake walk compared to it :-)
4:36 Looks like that alien is trying to go back into the goddamn wall.
AvP:2 is still one of the best games ever for me, multiplayer and all, this add on was erased from my memory as soon as i finshed it after 1 hour...
Primal Hunt was my jam back in the day. Then again, AvP 2010 is also "back in the day". God I feel old.
Avp2 was the best Monolith always makes the best movie licensed games
Based
I 200% agree with a remaster... I loved the hell AVP2. The first time I ever went through the alien hive near the start was one of the most stand moments for me in my formative years of gaming.
I really enjoy your reviews. They are hilarious!
Nowadays IGN would rate it 7/10 and say "there's a little something for everyone"
So much fun online with AvP2 and Multiplayer back in the days, in a cybercafé with friends, was the beat thing ever.
Can u play with controllers on that avp PC.
Aye Gman, been real excited fo dis one!
10:15
So you complain about shotguns being too strong but in your clip you have like 1hp
11:58 also
he's talking about the enemy shotguns there.
its just the usual... gmanylives bitching about things that was accepted and common in that time, hard enemies with the same weapons as we have and whitout nerfed.
@@Jesse__H Yet he plays a clip of an shotgun enemy shooting him while he has 1 hp, claiming they 1-2 shot you
Good call.Back in the day that was pretty common.Frustrating?Yes,but, pretty common. And most of us got used to it.Cheers.
Yup, that level of inconsistency is pretty typical of a GGGGGGGGmanlives review.
I've actually got both AVP 2 and Primal Hunt installed off the discs, it works just fine on Windows 10. Only drawback is on the cinematics long dialogue always cut in half, so I use the subtitles. I didn't have to make any adjustments to the game at all.
We need a remaster of AVP 2
Man I was obsessed with avp2. I had wildhunt but never played campaign. Couldn't pull myself away from multiplayer.
Wait. Only one sentry? I distinctly recall getting a total of three at the time...
That aside, yea. It really wasn't up to par with the core game. It did have some neat ideas, like being able to use and place your own Sentries (even if they overheat).
Primal hunt added some good stuff to multiplayer, but that's about all the good things I can say about it.
Dang, your gameplay footage looks so sharp.
AVP 2000 is definitely "playable" but the default 120fps cap is way too high. Everyone moves around like they're on amphetamines and often times you can accidentally push enemies 30 feet when just trying to melee them.
Why no one remaster only the online Mode of AVP2 in Unity or Unrale?
I remember play AvP Extinction that was fun too
I never got to play alien extinction but from the videos i saw it looks so fun to play too bad i din't get to play it ;-;
This game was downright amazing, and took up a good amount of time when I was at college.
Regardless.. good memories, man.
marines have 180 but 20 meters of radar, corporative have 360° but only 10 meters
O man, I remember the Alien campaign. An alarm went off, everything was red, and the base kept shaking... motion sickness to say the least.
The good ole days! Avp and avp gold edition were epic
AvP 2 man... What a MASTERPIECE!!!
I miss the AVP2 multiplayer so much.
Where can we buy this??
This doesn't just make me miss Alien vs Predator game, but licensed games in general. I am sceptic but looking forward to the new Terminator for that single reason, thx for video Gman!
Had no problems launching this game...what are you talking about? Couple of patches and done!
People are still playing AvP 2 multiplayer...and it is still lots of fun!
Is there a place where uou can download avp2?
@@Hexen_Jager just google for AvP2 online...they'll have the client, manual and patches
Hey Gman!!! this was an awesome review.
Nice review g-man
YES AvP2 IS where it's at!
Ahhhh man I miss playing this game online! Countless memories! 😃
My brother and I love AVP2.
Anyone remember playing the multiplayer in the demo of the first AVP? Was total chaos and fun.
I can still vividly remember the feelings of fear and panic those facehuggers brought on as soon as you heard that scuttling sound.
Facehuggers are by far the worst thing in Alien games. I just hate to see him all over my screen and the feeling you almost can’t take him down.
What is the software you used for widescreen fix? Cheers 👍
How did you manage to run AvP2 in proper widescreen mode? Could you please share? Thanks
Great analysis. I totally agree on your review. I hope I can play this again maybe on steam.
Can you review Alien Resurrection for Ps1? That was one of the best, most scary Alien games ever!
