Man, I played this game since I was a kid all the time, custom maps, mods, hundreds of hours in multiplayer. As ya said, I hope they figure out the legal issues one day and get this game back on store, maybe even little remaster with options like Widescreen and FOV.

You can feel that this game was maded preaviously to the movies. They used original sounds from Predator 1 and 2 and Alien 1-4. They even have an alien resurrection map tribute. This is by far the best AVP.
They also called it "Pilot technology" instead of "Engineer technology".
Of course it was. If it was made then the only finished campaign was marine's game had to be always online, there would be useless cosmetics for the broken multiplayer. Battle pass out the ass, road maps, buggy alien campaign you have to PAY unless you want expirience ungodly amount of grind and abamdoned paid DLC for predator campaign

As a game, I'd love to see it remasters remastered with today's graphics, like the quality we saw with Alien Isolation.

One of my favourite games. Still install it once a year and play through. Great story and atmosphere. Even with old graphics it's scary as fuck!

I love how in every other shooter after you've killed half of the planet your commander still thinks you won't make it.
I had hundreds upon hundreds of hours in the AvP2 multiplayer scene. Still the best multiplayer experience I've had.

i really want a cool predator campaign in the style of hunting grounds but with some insane story
This game was part of my childhood 😢 it brings back good memories, installing it on my dads work computer back in 2001
I played this game a year after it came out and continued for the following few years. the player vs player online community stuck together and created many skin and maps to play above what the original game provided due to the publisher releasing the code along with the toolkits to edit things. a few years went by and the game announced pulling the plug for online servers. The comunity again rose up and made a downloadable patch that would allow the game to continue online. i have been away for a few years but i bet there still may be some servers left running the game.

"AJL mod is one of the first mods for AvP2 that heavily edited the game's source code. By doing so, the mod introduces vastly different gameplay mechanics from the original game. Some players love the new gameplay mechanics, while others hate it. It definitely takes some getting used to after playing the original game. AJL mod attempts to be faithful to movies by introducing new weaponry from the source material and it does so rather well. If you can get past the learning curve on the new gameplay mechanics, there is fun to be had, but it is unfortunately a multiplayer only mod. It removes the single player aspect of the game altogether. AJL mod has had several updates over the years. Fans of AJL mod are split between playing AJL mod R2 and AJL mod R3, which are the different release candidates. Often times AJL mod fans will play both so keep that in mind."
I still have my orig CD case and dual discs for the game and the handbook and of course my cd key, man that was so fun in the golden age of AvP2. This game is lightyears head of those horrid movies although they were good in their own respect to some sense I suppose. I remember I was very fond of Alien Lifecycle servers or reverse infection, also had a blast with TDM with strictly just USCM and Corp factions.
I would have liked to have seen a sequel to this story, whether in another game or even a novel.
This is my favorite AvP game of them all! I would have been happy to fork over money for this game almost intact but remade with a new game engine.
This has to be the best Aliens game ever made because they nailed everything!!! I know it's probably nostalgia talking but I played this almost everyday back then when this cake out. Aside from the single player i also played multiplayer alot and i remember even in 2009 there were enoug people on the servers and it was so much fun. I know it probably won't happen but I still hope that one day Sega releases a remake of this even tho this is still playable thanks to the community patches.
Great review with editing that must've taken ages. It's a travesty this hasn't got more views. I've subbed and liked anyway so hopefully that helps with the algorithm a little bit.
@19:53 - If you look up in the ceiling you can see the Predator cloaked and cycling his vision modes with the flashing eyes in his mask, great details added to this game indeed
I purchased my first laptop in 2002 just to play this game! Didnt understand why it wasn't released on console back then. Played the crap out of it. Good times.
I still have my physical copy, man the hoops you need to jump just to get it working on windows 10 :S
I wish the movies had been more along these lines.
This game was so much better than the first game. It's also better than all of the movies. This game took the best of every franchise and put it together. You can't hate on the graphics too much, because it came it in 2001. The graphics were not an issue when it was released.

I wonder if Frosty was modeled after some relative the Marine campaign's writer hated, maybe some bully from their childhood, or someone who hooked up with a person the writer was attracted to? They really seem to hate him for some reason.
AVP2 is definitely my favorite of the franchise. Dang shame it is not available on any current console and pc platforms. I'd 100% buy a solid remaster like Turok 1&2 got.
2001 was such an excellent year for FPS games: Halo CE, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, AVP2, Red Faction, Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon all in one year. Dang...
Yeah was a pretty good year for FPS and so much variety in the style of gameplay.
Better than the movies? Yes. I have only the fondest memories of AvP 2 (the game). First game I ever played online with a 56k modem (my ping was never lower than 9999 and I never got a single kill, but I was 11, I didn't care, I had fun), first time I ever downloaded a mod for any game ever, all 3 campaigns were extremely well done, the graphics were amazing for their time, and AvP 2 was the best game in the Alien/Predator franchise until Alien Isolation came out 15 years later and in my opinion is STILL the second best game in either franchise (with Isolation being #1).
Oh and I still have my original disk copy from 2001. Unfortunately the big cardboard box + manual is lost, but the disk in its jewel case remain.
Yes it is better. Plus there’s multiple ways to get it running on Windows 10 now

I'm so glad I experienced the first movies and games before all those nonsense movies came out. I remember renting a Jaguar from the video store just to play the Alient vs Predator game, which was lackluster and a big let down as a kid. But when AvP came out in 2000 again on PC, it was pretty fun, even if it was just mindless frantic gameplay mostly, which wasn't as fun as playing No One Lives Forever or even Soldier of Fortune around that time. But when the same people behind No One Lives Forever made the sequel, AvP 2 - I was so excited, I even reserved it at Electronics Boutique. Hell, I still keep AvP2 and all the old Monolith games on an SSD that I have all my favorite classics archived in a playable state with any widescreen and FOV fixes preinstalled.
.... Pretty sure I could make an AvP story somewhere on the level of the game. It's not really hard. Create a believable scenario why all 3 groups, Humans, Aliens and Predators, are on the planet and create a Story that matters to the Protagonists of all 3 Species.
Edit.: I really wish AvP 2010 had the graphics and gameplay of itself but the level design and story of AvP 2.
I mean given enough time. This game had hundreds of notes/pages/logs that supplemented the main story. There are several subplots explored in these notes. For example the last stand of the survivors of the POC (Blaney). Subplot around the Iron Bears smuggling artifacts on the black market. Murder of scientists who asks questions. Snippets of everyday life in the pods. Logs from Eisenburg's first expedition to the planet. The fate of the White Team Marines who stayed at the POC. Those are just what I can remember off the top of my head.
