    Thank you for posting.👍👍 In my lifetime in the UK, I have had the pleasure to be able to listen to technicians like the gentleman in the video, and learned "How to do things properly" on a number of occasions. I've some experience personally of dealing with Hewland racing transmissions for example. This video shows the difference between technician and mere fitters! Thanks again for posting!

    Rebuilt my Guzzi gearbox over30 years ago on a bike I had purchased new. The factory had not assembled the bike withing spec leading to the needle thrust bearing failure. It does take time as the video shows and you need quality measuring devices. Great fun though. Take your time check recheck. Never been back inside box and still have bike.

    Thank you so much for this valuable art of video and explaining years of knowledge and work! You people should have a grammy for this! I'm driving a Moto Guzzi California 3 from 1992 with 180000 miles and this information could be really helpfull for a rebuild some day. Thank you for the knowledge! Cheers from The Netherlands, Niels Veron

    Great video, gents! Nothing like it on the web to my knowledge, and difficult to learn from a book. Always wanted someone to walk me through the job, when I finally take one on, I’ll be much more confident!

    On clutch hub, I didn't quite catch why conventional grease causes the o-ring to burn. Also, as a side note, those clutch hubs from HMB and Stein-Dinse vary in machining quality. Make sure to polish the outer diameter where the seal rides to prevent leaks and seal wear. I also had a hub that didn't fit onto the splines. It was way too tight.

      I think from memory Bill was referring to grease on the oil seals. It can burn the lip of the seal at engine rpm. Bill uses a silicone grease on assembly.

    Very Helpful Video.I'm rebuilding a 73 Eldorado Transmission currently and I'm using this video as a Guidline.When you mention using the 28 Ball Bearing instead of the 18 Ball Bearing are you referring to the Bearings at both ends of the Mainshaft or just the Rear one?

    • @PeterMurray-su7ex
      @PeterMurray-su7ex 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Cota, there are 2 28 ball bearings, one on the input shaft and one on the output shaft. The type Bill refer's to is a NTN brand 3205AC3 double row angular contact bearing. ZKL also do a cheaper 28 ball version but it has a slightly lower load rating than the NTN. The ZKL is still higher rated than the 18 ball types.

    Great video. I might have missed it, but I’d appreciate any specific recommendations for gearbox oil.

      Here are Bill's recommendations:
      "MY preferred oil was always Pennzoil 80/90, but it's not easy to find. Currently I am using Valvoline full synthetic 75/90 or Eni I-Ride 75/90 which is the OEM oil for Guzzi"

      @@MikesMachines thanks mike. So I guess he feels GL5 is fine for 5 speed gearboxes. People give so many opinions on Guzzi internet groups regarding suitability of various oils, it’s head spinning. While I’m asking oil questions, what are your thoughts about engine and final drive oils? Fwiw, I have a 1990 LM V similar to yours, but I think a year or 2 older. I’m putting it back together after sitting unused in my garage for the past 15 years. Really enjoy your content. Please keep it up!

    Just wondering, if you do not oil the gasket.
    Never put it in dry, it will leak.

    Do these issues apply to later 5 speed, big block? Mine's 2009. Thanks
