Video fares better, but still... Buy this game people, support this developer and marvel over the looks and feel of this fantastic world they created!

@Raios Rogue Aint gonna help abit lol you can see and hear from the explanation that on PC at least its an engine issue. VRR only helps to match the refresh rate to the gpu output it wont correct stutter caused by engine streaming for example. Ive also read that VRR freesync on Q90R only works between 40 and 120fps so even more bad luck for you. The consoles do appear solid 30fps locked though. Good old juddery 30fps lol
I was so shocked when knowing this game isn't using Unity or Unreal Engine or CryEngine, and uses in-house engine instead. Granted, Asobo already have quite a track record, but still, a very risky move by a AA development in this day and age, if you ask me.
Welp that's Asobo studio, the people working there are all genius and I'm not even joking. They're making Flight Sim 2020 with the exact same number of employees, a real world in full 4K native.

Really glad to see you guys cover this. Beautiful game. A remarkable achievement by a relatively small studio. Game also has wonderful HDR support! One of the more remarkable HDR games, IMO.
They did such a great job with their inhouse engine. Such a shame they decided blur the image with this insane amount of post-processing (bokeh, chromatic aberration, blur, vignette, etc.). You can disable it under "[User]\Documents\My Games\A Plague Tale Innocence\ENGINESETTINGS", though. So if you have the choice, you should definitely buy it for PC.
I think they did that because that blury look fits wqith the whole atmosphere of the game. it gives it that cinematic feeling it needs. Things looking grisp isn't always the best when it comes to an artistic atmospheric environment.
I was on TH-cam last year and a long 16min advert popped up on a video I was about to watch. It was an early gameplay demo, from the area where the rats errupt from the horse. I watched the whole advert, and even saved it under 'watch later'. I've been keeping an eye on the game since, I'm happy to see that it performs well on PC & console and seems to have reviewed positively.

I do enjoy Focus Entertainment's willingness to find, and fund, interesting AA titles like this - I've really enjoyed a lot of them even when they have some jank. Plague Tale is pretty much jank free which is even better.
Hey Alex! Chromatic aberration is not only related to depth of field. It can be (longitudinal CA) but also it can appear on objects in the focus plane mostly visible on high contrast edges and in the corners of the frame. Otherwise a great analysis as always!
Ah ! Do you have a good visual example of that you can tell me how to find? I was watching some camera footage before posting this video looking for CA in the the DOF of the camera :D

Asobo Studio. After making Fuel, the largest open-world racing game of its time, it comes as no surprise that they make a state-of-the-art game like this one.
Game is absolute gorgeous and has great great personality, with very good pacing and scripting!!! Really great great work from asobo!!! I would love to know the production cost from this game... This type of different themes with this narrative driven experience is really where I like to see the industry go... But it's rare nowadays!! Amazing work asobo!!! Crazy how this game used to be insanely demanding, and GPU tech at the time struggled to run it, but my 3080 can now run it at 4K - Ultra at 100 fps + in most scenes and it doesn’t even look that impressive anymore even maxed out. Also insane how much Requiem made this game look so outdated/bland in comparison as they made the sequel way more detailed.
kiop901 Only 1080p on the Pro ! Seems to be getting a regular occurrence, the pro is showing it dosen't have the graphic grunt and is not handling the latest more strenuous games well At all. 1440p on the X is good as the Xbox X can output directly to 1440p whereas the PS Pro can't.
@@rinaa6865 yeah I started to notice early on when the x came out that developers were not trying to use checkerboard on the pro and just opted to run at 1080p with better textures, shadows, and draw distance. Sony games look freaking amazing though, God of war you could barely tell it wasn't native 4k. But games just dont look good on a 4k TV if they are 1080p. 1440p is literally as low as they can go before it starts looking bad to me. Rage 2 was a complete letdown for me. It wouldn't be such a big deal but I have yet to see a 1080p TV have support for HDR and that definitely makes games look way better if done right.
A photographer spends thousands on good lenses to eliminate chromatic aberration. A gamer spends thousands on a rig that adds it back in. We humans are mad.
Excellent video, I never even considered the eye geometry you find in other game characters in other games as a thing. 9:38 not to be a stickler, this kind of lighting is what PBR excels in definitely but it's not just when it looks good. Worth bringing up though as PBR came about with Wreck-It-Ralph as a system that is consistently good rather than the older methods which go awry when the lighting setup changes

WH250398 not really. Since last gen there have been some fantastic AA/Indy titles. Though this one could compete toe to toe with AAA titles which is not so common.

I am busy with this game on PC presently and I can attest that I am often bowled over by just how gorgeous it actually is. While technically not full indie, Focus Home interactive does seem to service a market that is often ignored with its story driven AA games which have all been, to me, a bit rough around the edges but all thoroughly enjoyable. I do think A Plague Tale: Innocence is the jewel in their crown As for it being linear, I can only be thankful for that. Their is a large market (like myself) who love games like this. Games that are tight, enjoyable experiences that fit nicely with our demanding life and work schedules. Not everything has to be open world. In fact over the years I have come to dread the term "open world" when a new game pops up because of the time investment required (also half of them being utter rubbish, you would think they would all follow The Wicher 3: Wild Hunt example but no most are still following the terrible Ubisoft blueprint). I have to commend Asobo on another thing. Whoever they hired to write this game must be kept on at all costs. It has some of the most rich, emotional and rewarding dialog I have ever heard sprout from a digital characters without crossing over into being maudlin or purple. The sister /brother relationship and the strain it is put under during the trying circumstances these kids find themselves in is ever so satisfying. I cannot wait to see what Asobo pump out next. I get the feeling A Plague Tale: Innocence could very well end up being their The Witcher moment that CDPR had all the way back in 2008. Look where they are now.
Just got finished playing the Demo on Steam and now I want to buy it! Sadly, I missed its sale which was two days ago. From what I've played so far, the game's definitely worth its original price. I'm just broke AF atm lol. The graphics and amount of detail in this game is stunning!
I dunno i was always critical of their analysis of God of War which had some pretty poor graphics in some areas. Water was often rendered really poorly. Also Uncharted 4 where waterfalls and the like suffered from stair stepping on Pro due to the way the resolution bump was handled in hardware. I don't remember them ever criticising these points though. I know they did say in God of war some shadows were rather low res but that was about it.
Beautiful game, I couldn't stop playing! It feels like a gift to get an amazing single player game these days. I hope the game does well to show the industry these games are very much wanted / needed!

Asobo studio? I remember I played the Sitting Ducks and Wall-E game they made, strange to see a developer I haven't heard about since my childhood making a high end game with original IP
I ran a mixture of high to ultra settings running an i5 9400f and gtx 980 at an almost constant 60 FPS at 1080p. Very impressed with what they have accomplished.

For a team of 40 odd people the amount of detail and work put in is incredible and the game itself is great too.
Especially since all they worked on beforehand were Pixar movie tie in games

What I liked is the lighting inside tents. (the shadows can be seen from inside and some light leaks into the tent. And it's colored.)

Also Uncharted 4 where waterfalls and the like suffered from stair stepping on Pro due to the way the resolution bump was handled in hardware. I don't remember them ever criticising these points though. I know they did say in God of war some shadows were rather low res but that was about it.
Beautiful game, I couldn't stop playing! It feels like a gift to get an amazing single player game these days. I hope the game does well to show the industry these games are very much wanted / needed!

I watch almost all DF videos, and I want to say that Tom Morgan should be included in the group discussions and should be recognized more. He is a great addition to a great team and I don't like how he seems to be left out of group discussions. It might be a decision related to his technical knowledge, but I really like his style and I think the videos that he makes are great. Please Richard, consider including the whole team in group discussions. You guys are awesome, and I love each and everyone in the team. Keep up the great work.

I ran a mixture of high to ultra settings running an i5 9400f and gtx 980 at an almost constant 60 FPS at 1080p. Very impressed with what they have accomplished.
