Great song written by a man who had lived those lyrics and more. I have listen to Kris Kristofferson sing his songs for 50 years...and never get tired of listening to him. God bless you Kris.
What a great song! 5☆☆☆☆☆ for Kris Kristofferson for writing. A wonderful performance by the GREATEST stars of country music. Mount Rushmore right there!! RIP JOHN RCASH and Waylon and Reggie YOUNG/CD
RIP KRIS For the good times and helping us through the Night many times and the odd Sunday morning come downs but Hear comes the Rainbow again and Don't let The Basterds get you down and there is always a moment of forever
No it's not a sad thing. Everyone listen what they listen, it's not like anything is taken from us. I listen music from black metal to rap.. So I give a change to every song by what is it. If it's good its good. No matter genre.
YOU SO MUCH GUYS FOR THIS INCREDIBLE HEAVEN !
Everyone has their favorite Kristofferson lyric. "Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose." "On a Sunday morning sidewalk. I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned." My favorite lyric of his is "He's a walking contradiction. Partly truth, partly fiction." It reflects what Waylon once said about Kris, that he brought an intelligence to his songs that cut against what people expected from country music. Other songwriters suddenly realized that they had to raise their game. That is saying something since Waylon, Willie, and especially Johnny also could be said to have raised the game for Country songwriters.
I have to admit that I didn't really appreciate Kris until I started reading the lyrics to these songs. What a brilliant writer, his stories illuminate his music. Mix that up with Willie's twang, Waylon's bravado, and Johnny's rumble and you get some of the greatest music ever made.
You are a teenager and your Dad always play this songs on the record or radio. While you listened to Pop,Rock ect. with your head phones. Soon you sort of started knowing the rhythm and the lyrics of the songs. Then you went on TH-cam to search for those songs and you listened to them every day. You started singing these songs with your Dad and fell in love with these amazing singers while other people laugh at you for listening to these beautiful songs and not listening to Trap, Pop, Techno, Hop. County music is the most unpopular music listened by teens. They just have to give it a try.
What a great performance of such a great song. I can really relate to the lyrics. Practically no one else but Kris seems to have put such great lyrics to such catchy tunes. Or at least it is a very small club.
What a song !!!!! Is this about you Kris or me ????😂😂😂 its about us i think thats why you could connect songs to us down and outs !!! brilliant song writer youll be missed my friend so much
The brochure which accompanied the dvd said that when Kris finished singing this, he pointed to each of the other three to show that they were all a brotherhood. Notice Waylon laugh and point back at Kris. These guys truly loved each other. They weren't just doing this as a career move; they were doing it because they just loved singing together and having fun and teasing each other. Kristofferson later said if he had known it would end so quickly, he would have cherished each moment more.
Making it more touching is that Kris often said he had a hard time at first feeling that he deserved to be up there with the other three, because they were the guys (Cash especially) Kris himself idolized when he came to Nashville. I think it is safe to say that Kris more than deserved his place. Today's generation of artists would likely agree.
When I think of Kris I think of a young man who drank 2 too many one day and decided to land a helicopter in Cash's yard to meet him but never a young man who earned a BA in Litature and then a Rhodes scholarship to attend Merton College at Oxford. A true poet for sure and a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. They all are.
Imagine if they introduced a fifth Highwayman.......MERLE HAGGARD! All five perform a song together. It would've been the greatest moment in country music.

You'll never find anymore like these 4, especially today nothing changed in Nashville...telling the artists how and what to sing ...these 4 told Nashville to "stick it"
Iv seen this song with kris and Waylon on the sue brewer special yrs ago and Waylon done the last part of the song and harmony as well on the chorus. Even kris was taken by waylons ability to go from bare tone to tenor almost instantly, in fact Waylon did a lot of his own harmony on his studio recordings. Great singer!!. Also Waylon and Ricky Nelson were together a lot , early on.
that was not Kris, though he was singing lots of harmony to this and to other songs. Guess this was Danny Timms, the one with the hat at the keyboard. He is from Kris's band The borderlords. But it might also be the guitarist
There is no group of performers that can even play in the same league as The Hywaymen. If the human race lsts for 100 thousand years, they will still be on the op of the pile. Consider yourselves lucky that you lived whilst they performed. Kris and Willie are the last of the best.
Yes, they are all geniuses. The word genius means 'to bring forth.' But when we 'get back home' we certainly are not lonely as eternity has become clear to us. We make the "subtle" realization, which I call Self-Other-Realization, that we are not separate from each other. We realize by seeing and knowing what has been in front of us all along . Up until now we have been too blind to see that each of us is part of ONE " Spirit" or "Soul" that is eternal. We are many parts of "ONE-Spirt-Soul-Body." Native Americans pray, "Make us ONE." Make us ONE means make us "see" and know that we are interpersonally and/or psychologically connected to each other within our universe, that is, make us "see" and know that we are connected to everyone and everything, that is, make us see and know we are part of Universal Consciousness. The next leap in our evolution is our blinders being taken off so we have the collective SoulSight of our connection to each other and everything.
Its sad to hear Kris laugh. Knowing he was having the moment of his life, surrounded by great friends, his heroes. And thousands of fans. While having fun. Its sad to thing of all the old times and know that, that Kris is dead, those moments are now stuck in the past and in memory. His friends are gone, times have changed. American isnt American, Country music isn't Country Music and people just seem more gray and less family loving.

But places of amusement and of all other kinds of entertainments, not sacred in rites and ceremonies, are situated external to the Place of the Holy Covenant. 29. The multitude responded: May I remember Thy LINE OF THE SACRED CIRCLE, Jehovih, and comport myself within it for Thine honor and glory forever! 34. Within this place am I about to covenant myself to Thee forever, as a laborer to fulfill Thy kingdom on earth for the resurrection of man. 35. Response: May I remember the little ones within this SACRED CIRCLE, whom Thou hast given into my charge, for whose welfare on earth and in heaven, I am about to covenant myself unto Thee, to make myself an example and sacrifice before them during all my life. 36. Together: In remembrance of the pillars of light in heaven, that surround the throne of Thy Son, God of earth and heaven, we build here a hedge and a fence, as a lasting testimony that we dedicated to Thee, Jehovih, the enclosed PLACE OF THE SACRED COVENANT.

He's still alive, you know.

The Traveling Wilburys might have something to say about being a Supergroup ;)
Always thought the narrator in Dukes of Hazard was Uncle Jessie but it was Waylon
They are all geniuses. Genius means 'to bring forth.'
Whoever brought them together is an absolute genius. I cannot and will not compare them, just really think they were a superb group
Marty Stuart had a role in bringing them together.

They all came alive when they were together in a Magical way!! Don’t get me wrong, each one on his own is a Dynamo!! But Together - WOW!!!!!

In my opinion this is one of the best songs ever written. Strikes me as a musician, because every single line in this song describes myself too
This is absolutely beautiful, it's sad that not everyone enjoys this kind of music let alone try giving it a chance
Let other people have other tastes. Doesn't matter, does it? Good job, we enjoy it.
