- In this video I show you how to tame a Snow Owl. These are some slippery butts, I wasn't expecting them to be able to get out of the bird cage trap that I normally use. However, their collision box is just small enough they can fit though gaps that are smaller than a foundation, but larger than a door. In the end I had to formulate a trap, and I think that I did fairly good on it; I made a design that worked and refined it to make it smaller and use less materials. I can already see the comments saying that I made a crappy version of Captain Fatdog's trap. I am already aware of this, I checked on what other people had made for traps after I finished my design. I'm actually glad that I came to something close to what he made, it just means I was on the right track.

There was a patch sometime in Jan 2021 or Feb 2021 that changed something which makes it so railings can no longer attach under ceilings. This component of the trap isn't necessary, but it was convenient.
There is a workaround by stacking railings up then putting the ceiling in place before removing the excess railings.
I don't get it... what do I have to do?mcan I not use the trap anymore?
Ty for this pin, cause I thought I was derpy. I tried to put the railings and nope... It did trap and keep fine... it's just a small needle to thread sometimes... or R-Snow Owls are 10x more a pain in the butt. If you redo a build on video, I'd for one appreciate it...

So effectively it doesn't work at all and is still a top video tutorial with it not working at all.
I literally tamed 2 snow owls today using argy trap and it worked perfectly fine
and now i see this
I tamed my first one today, man it was a struggle, I tried on 3 different owls and the 4th one I finally got trapped then my bow broke so I had to make another one but I got it, it was a sh*t show but I’m pretty new to the game so I’m happy I got one eventually
The argie traps work fine, you just made the space between the gates too wide. Also, you don't run out of the gates as they're closing, you run back to the small gap you left in the gates after the doors are both closed.
Or just do what I did. Bring a pteranodon that you don’t care about, set it to passive, use it to get the owl’s attention, and leave it in the trap with the owl while you tame it. You also might want to have a sleeping bag and a box with all your taming stuff in it nearby just in case you die.
In my case, the pteranodon, and I both survived, but your results might vary on that depending on your pteranodon’s health and the level and melee stat of the snow owl

How bruh when I do it it doesn’t go inside
I just had him right behind me ran under the platform and he flew right in maybe I got lucky worked first time.
I’m surprised that In none of these clips on these taming videos that I’ve seen, he’s hasn’t been attacked mid tame by some small creature like a dire wolf or a raptor

I love that the developers paid so much attention to animal behavior that they remembered that owls regurgitate their food in pellets when done digesting.

I recommend going up a cliff somewhere and look for a snow owl from there. Shoot one with your rifle and it will go for you while you prepare the net projectile. After you shoot it down it will stay with you on that cliff harmless and you just have to tranq them

i made this one trap for like 300 stone and its really good I tamed five good highlevels easily
why can't i place the second railing underneath the first one i mean works with just 1 but still I'm a bit confused about that anyone got any ideas
i’m not exactly sure why cause I had the same question but i’ve noticed that the snow owl can still escape easily when trying to close the door and even when it’s closed I think it’s still possible for it to escape

I spent 2 hours looking for a lvl 140+ snowowl, then I just spawned a wild 140 one in, then I spent half an hour trying to get it into my trap, then I closed the trap, then I shot it with my crossbow with tranq arrows untill it was bleeding, then I spent 20 minutes looking for a small creature to give to it so it would heal, then I spawned in a dodo, then I tried getting it to eat the dodo, then it escaped my trap, then I spent 10 minutes trying to get it in the trap, then I turned on creative mode and spent another 20 minutes trying to get it into the trap, then I crossbowed it untill it was bleeding again, then it finally landed and stopped moving, I opened the trap because I thought it was knocked out, then it flew out, then I gave myself an ascended longneck rifle and shocking tranq darts, then I spent the next 30 minutes shooting it with my ascended longneck with shocking tranq darts, then I realised that it was bugged and it didn't gain any torpor, then I forcetamed it, then I cryopodded it and flew back to my base with my tapejara, then I spent 5 minutes dying inside while looking at it, then I turned on creative mode, killed it, turned off creative mode, left the world, turned off ark, turned off ps4, now I have no emotions, motivations and no will to live
I can place the top railing, but the bottom railing get's obstructed.

I was lucky enough to get one down with a single well placed arrow, and just happen to have just enough prime meat on me for taming.

@@yazXVIII Both Gen 2 and Extinction. im not sure with egen 2 but exctinction 100%
they spawn in the snowy area/dome so its located at north east of the map

You can turn on the show creative mode on single player or your own server. It'll show on the pause screen

will the snow owl trap work for argies?
The design I showed will not work. Argies are too big to fit through a double door frame, and they are too big to fit into the space of a triangular ceiling.
They can fit between two walls spaced a foundation width apart, so you can get it to work if you use square ceilings instead of the triangle ceilings. You would also have to leave the spot with the double door empty until the argy is in the trap and only then place down something to block the argy's exit, preferably a regular sized doorframe. The opening is kinda small compared to an argy, so it may take a few attempts before it gets into the trap.
