If they have too many jars of unsold sauces, instead of throwing them out, they change the expiry dates. So we had to use alcohol to rub off all the expiry dates on the old jars of sauces and then pass them through the conveyor system to get the new expiry dates printed on them. So the sauce is the same but the expiry dates on the labels are different. It's all about money. When you buy a jar of sauce, you could be using sauce which is already expired.

When my grandfather got very sick and couldn't work anymore, my sweet grandma worked her way up in the ranks at Heinz in mid-late 20th century Pittsburgh until she eventually got a job with the Heinz foundation. She worked to help get funds to projects at schools, community centers and the like. She even helped organize the Heinz foundation ball every year, which was attended by many A-List celebrities. She's a true inspiration to me!

Glass also breaks (lost revenue) and is heavy so more fuel is needed for transport...and as anyone who has ever used a glass bottle to pour ketchup knows, it sucks trying to get it to come out...

On the white cap for a bottle, check the printed numbers... they will start with either MU or FR. Those numbers tell what year, day, time that particular bottle was made. Fremont plant makes about %90 of North America's Heinz ketchup and is the biggest Ketchup producing factory on the planet.

I worked in a hospital where we would daily get the smells from the exhaust stacks of the Heinz plant. We could tell every day what they were making - if it smelled like chicken or beef cooking - they were making soup. Tomatoes - probably ketchup, vinegar smelled like vinegar and pickles smell like vinegar & spices. Our patients frequently complained that the smells were making them very hungry.
YES! I work at the Fremont, OH Heinz factory where they only make ketchup.. Every time I approach the area you can smell that 'pungent' smell of the vinegar in the air from a good few miles away. At the Massillon, OH Heinz, they make a lot of the frozen meals and appetizers there, so most of the factory and the air around smells like cooking pasta. OOOh so good! I love it when I 'have' to go help out down there

Eh that's not bad, hell I burn about 500 to 700 gallons of diesel every week. I know other people that use about 12 to 1,500 gallons every week.
