One of the best runs of the Fantastic Four that went well with the movie, that came out at that era. When the MCU bring back this team , I think they’er going to build them up slowly because of the miss management of the last one. But this was one of the best run of this famous family of Marvel. If it wasn’t for the "FF" we would see the beginning of the Black Panther, Dr.Doom, Galactus, and Sliver Surfer , thank to the first family. I think Marvel is going to give them more substance in the MCU.
It was shorty after the release of Rise of the Silver Surfer I found this comic run and it made the Fantastic 4 my favorite Marvel comic characters and the trade I own is one of my most prized possessions. Pardon the pun, because everyone has probably made it, but fantastic video.
I had a single issue of this run a while back and heard great things about it from other ppl. Mike's art was really unique, it's a shame that he passed away so young.
Excellent video yet again. I feel like people always bring up the Hickam run of FF (understandably) but this video has definitely convinced me to go back and read this run as well!

@@mayotango1317I doubt it tbh. Galactus is confirmed & it’s a Phase 6 film with them being integral to Doomsday & Secret Wars. Not saying it’s impossible because the MCU has been 50% duds at the very least post-Endgame, but the F4 is one of those projects they realize they CANNOT afford to mess up. The practical makeup of The Thing looks sick & it’ll hopefully be even sweeter with the CGI mixed in. They’ll be putting in a ton of effort on First Steps, but whether that effort results in something good remains to be seen. As a superhero fan, I’m honestly praying they break the cycle of shitty FF films with one of the greatest MCU films to date (like The Winter Soldier). These characters are that important that I’m hoping they drop an exceptional franchise to make Marvel’s 1st family even bigger household names, & the Avengers film concluding The Multiverse Saga need to be even bigger masterpieces.
I feel like Unthinkable works as a reminder. Despite all the pretenses of honor and nobility, underneath the armor is a petty man that seeks to destroy Reed over an event that was his own fault. That Doom is a man who will ruin lives and kill for his goals, with the people around him merry being sacrificial lambs to either destroy his enemies and achieve his goals. Reed has a family. Fantastic Four #60 is the first comic I ever bought as a kid due to it only being 9 cents. Even though Waid's FF isn't my favorite run on the title, it does have A LOT of sentimental value for me.
The Family Dynamic of the Fantastic Four strikes a profound chord with me, each member feeling like a stark mirror of myself at varying moments in recent or ancient memory. Sometimes you're Ben on a good day, or Ben on a bad day, sometimes you're flying like Johnny or being the badass bedrock of Sue, sometimes you're the smartest gal in the room like Valeria or a buzz with ideas like Franklin. And sometimes you're locked in a room with your own mind like Reed. And its nice that something like that exists.
Love to see more FF videos. Hickman‘s is definitely worth a look. I’d say the big 4 runs for these characters are Lee/Kirby John Byrne This one And Hickman
I been waiting for this video by you, its perfect thanks for doing a video on the run that got me into the FF as a young teen and made me fall in love with the characters and my god the stories and characterizations (except maybe Sue) in Waid's run are perfect. This is my favourite FF run, its got everything a new reader would need to understand why Marvel's first family is so indescribably awesome. Please do more runs of FF, its my favourite comic in Marvel.
I remember reading the run for the first time and absolutely loving it. It's definitely on my top favorite comic books of all time. Great video and hope to see you covering more FF videos in the near future
Amazing video about an amazing run. The thing really is the best comic character ever. Love that guy, so much personality and pathos. There's so many fun FF runs over the years, I started with the Fraction FF and Fantastic Four books but Waid and Weiringo and Hickman's are legendary as well
When I was about 12, I read Marvel Giant Sized Treasury Edition: Fantastic Four. When I read the "The Coming Of Galactus", I got the feeling that as powerful as they are, they might not save Earth. Skip to 1995. I watched the episode, "Galactus", from the 1967 Hanna-Barbera series on Cartoon Network. I got the same feeling I did reading the story! I knew they started the Marvel Universe, but I never picked up the title. I went to my local comic book store, and picked up a few issues. I've been a fan ever since!
Excellent video! FF is my first Marvel book that I fell in love with Through the 1960’s cartoon! Kirby/Lee run is the bedrock foundation of this series! Waid/Wierigo kick it up a notch and Unthinkable is exactly how you blaze into issue 500! Kirby cameo and Torch as Galactus herald ? I could go on and on! Side note: at Baltimore this past October I met Mike’s brother ,Matt (nice guy) and picked up some original artwork from the run! FF is a tough book to make interesting stories about! Mark,Mike,Karl and Paul created some great comics/wonderful situations! I would love to see you review the Simonson run or McDuffie run just to name 2! Thanks again!
The Unthinkable arc is my favorite Dr. Doom story, closely followed by Triumph & Torment. To me the noble Doom is not real but how he sees himself. Because Doom is a tyrant and most tyrants are delusional monsters.
Agreed, although I would also add Books of Doom, which in my opinion is the best version of Doom's origin and how he goes from a poor kid to become the ruler of Latveria.
@@alexandrefrauches132 Just finished Books Of Doom not so long ago, read it through a couple of times. While he strikes me as being factually honest (mostly) throughout, the odd gaps and curious omissions keep picking at me. I have grown up loving the FF, plz plz plz do more, I am a big fan of ur studies and would love to hear more of your takes on this Fantastic { ;) } team
I think in retrospective Sue already have her trauma and growth already done before: Is her being able to be a mother for her kids and helping Reed and Johnny grow in their new stages of life. She and Ben were the support that the other half of the team needed.
You may disagree with me, Matt, but I enjoyed the FF during Heroes Reborn. I liked Jim Lee's art. I had just gotten into the book around 1995, and that book had a modern take on classic stories. It's only my opinion, remember.
This Run was pretty much the first FF run i read so i have a bit of bias for this run but moving on if i have to say my favorite story arc in this run it have to be the Unthinkable arc (#67-70,500) being it give Doom back the vibe as more as a Ominous villain and give him a spine also this arc was very important being it set up the four powers switching and to lead to the Authoritative Action/Hereafter storylines(#501-512) them invading and taking over Latveria and also Spoliers The Thing Death And them going to Heaven to find Jack Kirby who is God btw not kidding this actually happens yet it pretty weird and out there but i can unterstand btw i thought Doom's Unthinkable design influence the design in F4 World's Greatest Heroes being it more Gothic though F4:WGH is more close to the Classic Design. The Artwork to me is the best The FF have ever looked, the Late Mike Wieringo who return to work with Waid after Working with him on The Flash During the 90s.He is probably my favorite F4 artist ever. Also in my opinion the lighthearted cartoony art helps the contrast between the more darker stories that happen and also give it is own style distinct from the other F4 Runs btw i know some people don't like how DOOM is portrayed being he is not noble but to honset Doom not the most honorable person and his noblilty is medieval at best not saying he can't be at all but only doing if it helps his schemes and plans and he does respect people like Doctor Strange but only if they worship him or are equal and matched.
Great video. Please cover the Hickman run on the F4 and the Future Foundation, the omnibuses are getting reprinted and it would be nice to have a great analysis of that run.
19:35 yes man pleaaase do a video for Jonathan Hickman’s FF run that’d be such a great video and it’s my personal favorite after Mark Waid and Mike Wieringos run
Thanks for uploading another FF video. They are the first Marvel Superheroes but are severely underrated (the lacklustre films did not help). I am not fond of what Waid did with Doom. I know he is a villain but even for him, sending a child to hell was a step too far. If you are going to make more FF videos, I love to hear your opinion on the John Bryne run.
I remember a while ago reading about the first trade volume of this run of the FF. And 2020 was a great opportunity to not only revisit but also finish the run. So I got Vol 2-4 on Hoopla and….WOW. I think it was the issue where Ben was talking to Franklin about being brave that cemented this as top tier Fantastic Four comics. I haven’t read everything (a good chunk of the Lee/Kirby era, 3/4 of the Hickman run and currently the Dan Slott stuff through trades) but this might be my favorite iteration of Fantastic Four. It just captures all the heart and humor while never shying away from the darker storylines. Plus…probably one of the very few comics to actually get me to care about Reed instead of making him…well whatever Mark Millar did to him in Civil War. Truly one of the highlights of Waid as a comic writer (which there so many top tiers comics he’s written) and of course the amazing art done by Mike Wieringo (RIP). Great video. Hope for more Fantastic Four videos. Would love to see a video on the Hickman run especially after the Secret Wars video.
Please read this!!!This FF film is meant for failure. The actors they need to make it a success are as follow-Reed Richards by John Strazynski, Sue Storm by Charlize Theron, Jonny Storm by Glen Powell and Ben Grimm by Andrew Dice Clay. The Silver Surfer played by Keanu Reeves and Galactus played by...wait for it...Mel Gibson.(the man some people like to hate)...and directed by James Cameron!!(although highly unlikely)!!...or a director as successful! As for supporting characters- Mike Colter as T'Challa, the Black Panther, Mark Strong as Dr. Doom and Dwayne Jonson as Namor, the Sub-Mariner, Prince of Atlantis. And you can have the She Hulk (but playing it straight...without the breaking the third wall concept..and working side by side with Ben Grimm as her mentor))
Some of the panels from Mark Waid’s run of Fantastic Four were used for the Fantastic Four 2005 films (including the 2007 Extended Cut to the 2005 Fantastic Four film).
This run is something I would just give to a person to read as the first comic book run. Mike Wieringo’s art just screams comic book and I know it doesn’t make sense but it just does and I love it.

I think in retrospective Sue already have her trauma and growth already done before: Is her being able to be a mother for her kids and helping Reed and Johnny grow in their new stages of life. She and Ben were the support that the other half of the team needed.
Johnny was flanderized to oblivion. Waid's Johnny was not the real Johnny lol.
This was a great run on FF4
Thanks for the video
this video really reminds me of that fantastic four retrospective documentary
You may disagree with me, Matt, but I enjoyed the FF during Heroes Reborn. I liked Jim Lee's art. I had just gotten into the book around 1995, and that book had a modern take on classic stories. It's only my opinion, remember.
Matt, I love your sign-off ❤️
This Run was pretty much the first FF run i read so i have a bit of bias for this run but moving on if i have to say my favorite story arc in this run it have to be the Unthinkable arc (#67-70,500) being it give Doom back the vibe as more as a Ominous villain and give him a spine also this arc was very important being it set up the four powers switching and to lead to the Authoritative Action/Hereafter storylines(#501-512) them invading and taking over Latveria and also Spoliers
The Thing Death And them going to Heaven to find Jack Kirby who is God btw not kidding this actually happens yet it pretty weird and out there but i can unterstand btw i thought Doom's Unthinkable design influence the design in F4 World's Greatest Heroes being it more Gothic though F4:WGH is more close to the Classic Design.
Just finished unthinkable, it's amazing
Also Mark Made Mr fantastic my favorite Marvel super hero
Love the fantastic 4! Great video
I really love what they did with Doom in this❤
Great video.
Nice work!
Video about my favourite superhero team, that also is really good.
Man I love the FF. Not sure if you’ve covered his run yet or not but you should make a video on Hickman’s FF!
I hope you can do a video about The Four Species Movies. Love to see it since I'm a huge fan.
Let's hope Jon Watts can make justice to the F4...
I'd love to cover Hickman sometime! For Every Kind of Geek is about to release a video on it so make sure to check it out when it's live
@@MattDraper support Doug’s work? Of course!!!
i feel like mark millar redeem reed, at least for me, in his ff run.
I love these videos 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Doooope.
Also bleugh remembering Scott Lobdell.
If you wish to get into more modern FF, Books of Doom, this run, Mark Miller's and Jonathan Hickman's runs works really well back to back.
This was the first comic that really made me give a shit about the FF and I miss Wieringo's work every day.
Some of the panels from Mark Waid’s run of Fantastic Four were used for the Fantastic Four 2005 films (including the 2007 Extended Cut to the 2005 Fantastic Four film).
For the opening logos.
You should do the Waid flash run. It's about time that it got an omnibus. It's a fantastic run and really embodies Wally west and the flash .
