I love the fact that I can hear everything around me all while listening to my music or podcast while at my work. It’s amazing because you don’t have to waste battery life using transparency mode or anything like that
So first off, I'm not an fitness guy, but I bought a pair of Shokz Openmove(their most basic model, also their only model with USB-C charging) about 18 month ago as a solution to listening to audiobooks and music in bed. I always had a problem with finding a comfortable position to sleep when wearing over-ear headphones, and had issues with in-ear headphones getting jammed in my ear if i was traveling and sleeping on a harder pillow. they're fantastic, comfortable, and being open ear means i can still hear alarms and other noises around me.
For me, the Shokz have been a godsend as any in ear bud causes a mild allergic reaction. So, the Shokz has become my daily driver. I save the over the ear and in ear ones for airplanes where I need noise cancellation or where carrying the case for the Shokz is an inconvenience. I always carry the case because I want to keep the charger and headset together. Also, the Shokz are fantastic for cycling, particularly if I have to answer a phone call or if I just want to get past a tough stretch with some music or a podcast. I can do so without stopping.
Ive used the shokz aeropex daily for 2 years now without issues in a loud workshop environment. Paired with in-ear earprotectors that blocks most of the sounds the sound quality is decent. The proprietary charging cable with the magnet connection has never failed me so far, altough I always keep it plugged in in the same spot.
I use it daily for around 2 years as well, walking in them around the house, while taking care of garden, when I go for bike trip, sometimes during work (in relatively silent place) or going shopping, basically I have it on for like 4-10h a day (though with breakes, rarely I wear it for 6h straight or on bike trips for even 8-10h but not constantly on), nothing strange so far, except forgetting that I have them on though I know people that had headache after 1-2 hours of wearing them, probably depends on shape or sensitivity of your head, it does put pressure around areas on head that rather don't like to be pressed its rather not for trains, or similarly loud places, you can hear something more or less well but you have to close your ears to reduce outside noise but that removes some of its advantages and yeah, if you are without any form of larger storage (backpack or something) you have to keep it on head cause even if small with its shape its hard to call it compact... its compact but when on head
My wife and I have used our Shokz paired to our phones so we can talk to each other while riding eBikes and I use mine daily. One interesting "feature" is if you have earbuds you can use them on one device and the headset on another to listen to two sources. For example I used one to listen to a podcast while waiting on hold for a call (long hold time).
Bone conduction headphones aren't for everyone but they do fix a number of problems I've had with headphones and earbuds. (I've had the Shokz Open Run for about a few months) Biggest improvement is these fitting with no issue or hassle, that and they don't fall out period. Also being able to hear your environment when outside is a massive plus. These would have been perfect during my bike riding days. However they do have drawbacks like you said; mostly with the charging. The Shokz ones do use a proprietary cable that only works with their products. That and personally, the audio quality isn't as good as regular headphones. With podcasts they're great, but when music quality is important they won't work. But as you said I have these and a pair of JBLs Endurance Race for my earbuds that work great together. The Shokz when I need something convenient to wear and still hear my surroundings, while the JBLs are for my workout sessions and listening to music relaxing. To each their own but bone conducting headphones are a great tech for active people that have weird ears like me and want something that just works.
Great video, I'm was skeptical with Bone conducting earphones but now I guess the only issue I'll be having with it is the charger and overall the cons is not that bad, I do feel disconnected when I use earbuds which is an issue when I'm near the road. Very helpful I would definitely buy one
I own a pair of Shokz Open Run Pro and love them. Great sound and super comfortable to the point it’s easy to forget I have them on. I don’t even mind the proprietary charger as I find the magnet connector faster to put on and remove than the usb-c connector. The one con I noticed was that as a glasses wearer, it fights with the arms of my glasses for real estate above my ears which makes the fit of my glasses less secure. I’ve had my glasses fall right off my face when I was bending down to pick something up because the Shokz had prevented them from hooking onto the back of my ear. Not a deal breaker for me but definitely something I need to be careful of if I’m wearing them out and about for extended periods of time.
Ah thank you for your comment. The past reviews I've watched haven't spoken about glasses at all and even I forgot about considering them despite having glasses myself. They're probably going to be a problem for me. I'll have to try them out in store first
I used shokz run pro more than 3 months now. It is comfortable for long time wearing (day of outing). Never afraid it will drop at shocky condition like cycling, skiing. I bought it main used for driving. Now I could feel it is so good for sports. Recently creative Logitech also release similar product, which combines swimming and talking mode for 2/3 price of Run pro. I am template to buy one more too. The only cons is that it is hard to bought a spare charging cable > one leave at car and other leave at home!

In fact, I am delighted with this very lightweight audio headset, incredibly comfortable, with sound quality that is sufficient, and moreover, it performs much better than far more sophisticated products for making phone calls. It even works well for WhatsApp calls, which is not always the case with other headsets. I am much more critical regarding the non-standard charger, which is truly bothersome. In fact, unlike most other headsets, if we forget the charging cable, we cannot replace it with a standard USB cable that we can find everywhere... we have to store the headset and wait until we return to charge it.
@@yeejay6396 Yes, you can buy the cable from Shocks. I had to buy 2 more when I lost my original charger. Now I keep one in my bathroom, and one in my car.
I really do like the Shokz. Most of the time I forget their in. Older models used Micro B to charge, which was a pain in the butt with the flap and it isn't as waterproof. The latter models use their proprietary connector. Super easy to connect and very waterproof. The Aeropex model even has two charge cords in the box. I'll wear earplugs with them, if I'm in a noisy environment and don't have to be as aware. Regular earbuds are aren't as convenient to me. Two earbuds, are super easy to loose and a case. Also, one side or the other is going to fail and loose volume. Bottom-line bone conduction headphones are the most convenient for long duration outdoor sports and activities.

Thanks for making this video dude. I think the lady at 4:23 is talking about eustachian tube dysfunction (I have it ) in-ear/over-ear headphones make it worse because they stop your ears from being able to breathe and you can feel a fullness/pressure or fluid sensation in your ear.
The shokz open move and some older generations use type C but the newer ones have not. The IP rating and battery life is similar to older models so not sure why they are going away from it? Makes me feel like it’s for more “accessory sales” 🤷♂️
My first bone conducting headphones(Aftershokz Titanium) used micro-usb and had a flap over the charge port, which was a poa. Also, the IPC water rating wasn't as high as the Aeropex, Openrun Pros, which have a higher rating of IP68. With the old Titanium headphones the charge port, micro-usb, was a very common connector at the time, but the problem was getting getting water or sweat in the port. If your were lucky, you would get the message to dry the port out (a few hours) and if you weren't lucky you would have to sent your headphones in for warranty otherwise garbage bin. Last, I have the Delphin swim mp3 player, which charge through a 1.5mm audio jack and anytime you plug in the charger it pops up with a message to wait 8 hours after swimming before you charge them. In the end, I wish industry could agree on a standard, but I'm not to hopeful. Heck, it took 15 years and the EU to coerce Apple to put usb-c on their phones finally.
I have used Shokz for about 4 years now. I can't put buds in my ear or use headphones over my ear for any length of time. I can be on teams meetings with Shokz for several hours with no issue. The sound quality is good enough for me.
What many videos fail to address is the sound quality of bone conduction headphones compared to average earbuds. While bone conduction headphones offer the versatility and comfort over traditional earbuds, this is really the only advantage. The sound is more equivalent to or worse than playing audio from your phone speaker and holding it near your ear. Don’t expect sound quality to come close to in-ear earbuds or you will be disappointed. If you’re not running with these, something like the Bose Soundwear that hangs around your neck is far superior. The Shoks may be fine for podcasts or audiobooks but for $150 they aren’t worth the poor sound quality unless your use case calls for their niche advantages.
Are you aware that phone speakers are not per se worse in sound quality than earbuds? Earbuds mostly sound good because you were them so close to your ear.
Oddly, my Shocks were bought after I discovered bone conduction gave me the full audio spectrum as well as my hearing aids. Leaving my ears open was a huge bonus.
Your honestly wrong I've used the bose version and there really just as good as most in ear earbuds. And this comes from someone that has tried and own many earbuds and headphones from Sony bose etc nothing low end and a good bone conduction one can really hold up to thos
As a long haul truck driver the Shokz bone conductive series was a game changer for years. My cats didn't have to listen to my music or audiobooks and I got decent DOT-compliant stereo sound. Unfortunately after years of use, the very necessary contact pressure started causing nerve pain. Just moved to OpenFit and was not disappointed
I like Shokz bone conduction earphones. I don’t have to worry about losing left or right buds. I can easily move it down to my neck to remove it temporarily. I lost too many ear buds so I settled with this.
Thanks for this review. I am currently using Beats fit Pro. Overall they are great (sound, ANC…). For sport activities indoor : great. Outdoor like running (trail) as soon as I am sweating they tend to get out of my ears, and not easy to adjust while running (press Stop, or next song…). That is why I am considering the Shokz OpenRun Pro. I will use them for outdoor sport activities, and the Beats for commuting.
Thanks for sharing! I also have the Beats fit pro. Have you tried buying 3rd party memory foam tips? that helped with mine. I stopped using them because the wingtip broke on my left ear. I had them for 13 months and was pretty let down apple wouldn't do anything. I would say go with Shokz I just used them again today because it was raining this monday. went and did 5 miles with rain and these work great for that.
If you’re reading this and you’re about to purchase some Shokz openrun or any of their lineup, they will randomly glitch one day. Don’t make me say I told you so, but from my experience, I’ve gone through 3 warranty replacements already, purchased the new openrun pro and it’s all the same. It’s sad bc i do love them for the functionality for running/cycling. When you come back to this comment, “I told you so.”
The shoks open move use usb-c charger. Thats the reason i got them. I use them for cycling. They may not have all the features of other options from the brand but the charger was the main factor for me. Thanks for the video
Like 1.7k, like yeah it flipped to 1.7 with my like. I use the Shokz Pro at work where I have to use ear plugs, over the ear headphones causes ear irritation. So for use at work Shokz is a game changer! I love em!!!!
Earbuds cause inner cartilage pain after a while so I prefer over ear headphones. But the JBL pair I own also cause outer cartilage pain after a few hours. These were my go to for work, but I got some Shokz and prefer those now, especially if I’m in the office. I like to hear my surroundings and not get surprised when someone walks up behind me. Sound is fine, not a problem for me.
I tried a pair of Shokz OpenRun Pro for a couple of days but was so disappointed I sent them back. Might be some weird quirk with my anatomy and the bone-conducting technology but the sound quality was absolutely dreadful, and music was unlistenable. All midrange with no bass or high end, and no stereo separation - sounded like a phone speaker playing from inside a pillow. Replaced them with a pair of Beats Fit Pro which seem amazing so far.
The non-in-ear feature of bone conduction headphone is characterized by both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are healthier, safer and more hygienic. The disadvantage is that the ambient noise will affect the sound quality. I think it is more suitable for quiet environments or listening to background music.I also have a Shokz and a Wissonly Hi Runner myself, and Shokz works very well until after a heavy rain, its working state is very unstable, so I chose Wissonly with better waterproof performance.
@@DoloresRoss-ck6sz Its waterproof performance is very high, reaching the IPX8 level. The official promotion is that it can be used 15 meters underwater , but I have not tried use it while diving. But swimming is no problem. It should be noted that dont use it during sauna as it may affect its waterproofing.
I got mine (Shokz) about a year ago. I went thru expensive wireless headphones, cheap knock-offs with wire and everything in between. I never liked the feel of most in ear head pieces. I would get swamp ear, and they would have bad habit of falling out. I sweat a lot, and when i tried to run or jog in them they would fall out. I did not like the feel of some of the models that have the arms or handles around the ear. The big full size ear muffs are way to warm for my taste. With the Shokz i don't worry about them falling off, the magnetic charging cable works without any problems (this wasn't really an issue except for some of the Chinese knock-offs), and i can still hear people, dogs and bicycles when the approach me from behind.
i have 2 - neither terribly expensive - and both use USB-C. agree with you on situations, though. your example of airplane or, in my case, supermarket, they are terrible for. too much noise let through. on the other hand, if i'm say driving or hiking and do want ambient sound? terrific.

I have no right ear channel and my mid ear is disfunctional so these headphones make me hear stereo and can be used when I do not use over ears. Cannot understand why rear part is not adjustable to fit close to the head. Do this add more flex strength to fit a bit stronger or produce different stiffness and add better drivers and I pay the price. So which of them all sound best?
I was recently on the fence about buying bone conducting earfones and bit the bullet and got some shokz openrun and found the sound to be incredible when you use earplugs at the same time. It's weird but it actually sounds better and louder IMO, like it's being transmitted directly to your brain. I was going to return them when i saw the unique charger but decided to spend another $20 on 2 extra cables and 2 adapters for usb-c connector.
Shokz are perfect while biking because you can hear the noises around you. You are not excluded from the enviroment which is great because you hear cars etc. The quality of music is worse than in-ear headphones but if you need to hear the surrounding this really doesn't matter.
Hi, I have a Trekz Titanium by AfterShokz and it has a common USB Micro-B port. Sadly discontinued in 2020 but I still use them since they are great. I always do voice calls with them which is a total win inside the house.
I disagree with the convenience comment about how earbuds sliding into pockets are better. Shokz stay in your ears 16/24. I wear glasses so maybe I'm used to having something rest in my ears, but I always completely forget they even exist resting on my ears. It's maximum convenience or when it take it off just rest on my neck as a cool "necklace" accessory. With those small earbuds, you always have the fear of dropping and losing one, then you're stuck with half a pair and gotta go buy another set, it's absolutely trash, I lost over 4 pairs of earbuds before finding the perfect design in Shokz.
The Trekz Titanium had a micro USB port if I'm not mistaken... it's two or three generations older than the OpenRun, back when Shokz was still called AfterShokz. I guess they changed to a proprietary connection because of the water resistance issue - you need a gasket to keep water away from the charging port, which is the first thing to fail. I also kinda hate proprietary ports, perhaps they could have adopted something more universal, but I can kinda see why they would want to spin their own thing. Magnetic style cables afaik are mostly for smartwatches and whatnot, and I dunno if they'd be the right fit for it even if they look similar. But the Titanium is also heavier, bulkier, teenier and volume doesn't go as high. You get that tickling effect at a way lower volume level too, which is annoying. It's also the first time I see another brand for bone conduction that is actually bone conduction... most of the off brands that claim to be bone conduction just throw a tiny regular driver there instead to blast to your ears, so it's not actually bone conduction. The tech is highly proprietary and Shokz have been refining it for almost a decade now, so it is one of those cases that off brands won't be able to get quite there. I haven't been running much anymore, but I use it on lots of situations... in fact, any situation I need to use headphones. Earbuds, regular cup headphones, and a bunch of other types I tried before getting the bone conduction thing they all had major problems for me... sweat was definitely among them, but just overall discomfort, causing pimples, blocking ear channel, falling out, you name it. I tried the ones with flaps, with those clips that go around the ear, the moldable stuff, several different shapes of buds... none of them could beat my sweaty ears. xD Before them though, I used the Sony NWZ line... lots of people don't like the neckband, I kinda depended on it to stop headphones from falling. Lots of commenters gave this tip already, but if you wanna block ambient sound away, ear protectors will do the job. Of course it won't get as loud as earbuds, but it's surprising how much you can hear if you isolate ambient noise... The only thing I miss from the NWZ line is how it can act as both Bluetooth headphones and a standalone mp3 player... it was kinda wonky in implementation, but after I got it working it was kinda nice to be independent from a smartphone or secondary device. :P
I agree the charger is disappointing, almost did get them because of that however try this for plane, train, and automobile rides or wherever you don't want to hear outside noise, pop in a pair of ear plugs and you're set.
In Europe manufacturers are expected to give a minimum of 2 years warranty. Apple tried to stick to the one year American warranty but didn’t succeed 😂

Great video, thanks for sharing. I agree with everything you’ve said, and have a pair of Shokz (old version though). They are my go-to for running, but they don’t work as well as earbuds for everyday use. My daughter has the latest Shokz and they have a USB-C charger so hopefully that will be brought in across their range.

Absolutely love my Shoks OpenRuns. I road and mountain bike. In toad the wind noise can het annoying, but I can hear everything around me. Mtn biking theyre great.
Thanks for the review, I've been interested in these for a while but always end up backing out and buying something more traditional instead. Why would you not use these if it doesn't rain at the marathon? I don't feel like the cons addressed why another choice was more appropriate.
For me personally since its my first full marathon I didn't know what to expect. I love both of these bone conducting headphones when it comes to my long runs. (running in LA, lots of cars) and when its raining (because of the durability). In a Marathon I don't have to worry about traffic but I ended up using my bone conducting headphones because it did rain lol.
if you are still looking for headphones with a type C charging cable, openmove, which is another model shokz has made, the headphones are not as high quality as the two high-end openrun and openrun pro, but are still okay, you just have to be careful that it's only IP55 water resistant, just so you knew, remember, it's just a suggestion 🙂

@@Aesthetic_Al I can understand you, I have shokz openrun, And I have also been afraid if something will happen to the charging cable, but so far there has been nothing, and if you lose it anyway, I know you can find extra charging cables on the internet, I only know that you can find them for the shokz models, I am really glad that you have come up with some solutions
Shokz open move uses USBC and has been very resilient to water and sweat. I have used them in both the shower and pool. Probably not the best idea but they have held up and they are reasonably cheaper at about $80
I have been using bone conduction mainly Shokz since their former name AfterShokz. Titanium, Air, aeropex, Open Run, and currently Open Move is USB C. since its Open Move cheaper than the rest. i have been using it recklessly even showering. and yeah they works
I love the shokz. I got the mini version , they still sit a little low for me, near my Tragus. I like it because it’s not in my ear, I don’t feel sweat going towards my earbuds The best reason to have them is awareness of traffic and any sexual predators , and irresponsible dog owners. Yes the music won’t be amazing but I’m not using if for superior quality music, it’s to get me through my run when I’m lacking motivation I try not to use music at all running. A lot of organised runs down allow music usage either so it’s a good idea to get accustomed to no music . I would use them low volume on public transport for listening to audio books ,podcasts . I generally Don’t listen to music with headphones in anyway, it’s only for running purposes
I work in a restaurant, would these be good to use? In the sense it gets loud in the kitchen when closing due to dish and stuff. Would I be able to hear these, while no one else hears them even when the volume is higher then 50%? I have good earbuds (don’t want them being ruined by slipping out of ear while working) and have a pair of Powerbeats pro which I like because they sound good and stay on your ear. But they are nearing the end of their life cycle so I’m unsure if I want to buy another pair or spend the money on these instead
Shokz are simply great for cycling. Sound and wind noise is going to be bad no matter what you use on a cycle - so no down sides - only upside with bone conduction. For the same reason I use another Shokz headphones when swimming.

That was a big mistake for the Trekz Air, changing the charging type. Earlier versions use micro-usb and I buy them on eBay and they are my daily driver. When not on my temples, they sit on my neck and I don't have to put them down (and lose them). I wear them all day, every day. The nice thing is that you can hear an oncoming threat because your ears are open.
Thanks for your opinion, I agree with it too, it's a year since you posted this video but would you know of a brand that are fully waterproof and us a USB-C charging cable. So at least it can be charged anywhere my cellphone can get power. Either way thank you for the video and your time.
I love my Shokz. Mine uses a standard usb-c charger so i really have no complaints. I use mine mostly while i work, i work in a machine shop so there is a lot of ambient noise.
June 2014: Bought a $20 pair, just to see if it even worked. Came with type-C charger. Sound is great. My only issue is these are no good for phonecalls. People can not hear me well. Maybe a better pair?
Much appreciated! Running with a cap is perfectly fine from my experience, with sunglasses it will feel like over the ear hooks. Some might not like it will depend on the individual.

I use JBL ear buds but haven't been in the rain much with them. I only wear one when walking my dogs or out in life. If I have both in, I also have them on situational are. It makes a difference having that situational awareness. No way will I down out the world, mashed me wonder why others will

For using indoor sport like gym, will the music in the gym distract the music from the bone conducting headphones? Like both music will crash on each other since you can hear sounds from your surrounding
I've tried some of these, and while I do like the technology I simply haven't found a set where the band is long enough from my head (not while swimming, anyhow). My head is big, but not huge (24" / 61cm circumference) and apparently there's no pair of bone-conducting headphones on the market that's large enough.
I have loved my shokz aeropex and where them for work, exercising, and just listening to music/movies, taking phones, or gaming. I am not a fan of the newer models because I don't believe the sound quality is as good and they are not as loud. I am curious what the new openswim pro models sound like. The charger system is a non-issue if you consider the fact every device seems to have a different system, but they all tend to connect through a usb on one end. My only issue is the durability. If you are rough with them they will break and start to rattle, however shokz has been great replacing them if they are still under warranty.
I know they're not comparable to traditional headphones. But how do they sound? Do they sound similar to let's say a smartphone speaker in terms of sound quality?
I have an iPhone 14 Pro. They sound better, and most bone conduction headphones with have the vibration in them to give it a better experience. I Pinned a comment with a newer video if you want to check how they sound it might help. You can't go wrong with Shokz or Phillips. Great sound
i want to buy these for my father. he owns a shop and he needs to talk to the employee and listen outside noise too, so I just have one question can he wear these everyday, like is there any headache issues, or other problem
The thing with BC tech is that there isn’t really a good cheap alternative. Ya gotta shell out at least $80-100 but they’re worth every penny. They’re on my head for 12 hours a day
I have been using my Aftershocks bone conducting headphones for years as my daily drivers at work. And in comparison to earbuds and even some over the ear ones I prefer the sound of the bone conducting ones. The only problems I have with the bone conducting ones is that 1. if the ambient noise gets too loud it cancels out the headphones unless 2. I turn it up louder to the point that they feel like they are vibrating my entire head. This is an easy fix with a pair of earplugs *kinda* because the sound quality suffers for it and defeats the purpose of having the open ear design. At the sound level I usually keep it which is slightly lower than 50% I think, I get 10+ hours of continuous play. I have had no problem with the pocket issue because I never take them off. As far as the proprietary charging cable it is a slight hassle that they don't have something more universal but they mag link they use holds so well that I wish *it* was the standard for charging cables. If wearing glasses or sunglasses they can be an issue as well since they are both competing for space on your ear at the same time. For me though this is little to no issue because I only wear sunglasses in the car and it's usually not for long enough for it to be an issue.
I will gladly trade a little music quality for being able to hear the environment around me and also not get pimples inside my ears. I will also second the guy who forgets his are on his head, great for extended wear honestly. At least thats my experience with my Shokz.
I wish I would've got these day 1 that I started running! I am currently making a video on the New Shokz OpenFit. They are like if Shokz OpenRun Pro blended with the Powerbeats.
@@Aesthetic_Al Ive seen those, I heard they retain music quality better than the Open Run, but I'm a little skeptical about being able to hear the outside world as well as you can with the OpenRuns. The shokz are nice for more than running, I use them while hiking or just in public settings in general. It's nice hearing all the birds and things and not interrupting other people with music.
I mainly use them for activities such as mountain biking or riding a bike outside where I can still hear stuff going on around me. But use my beats pro for other stuff or hearing stuff is not as necessary.
I havent tried the latest Powerbeats but I have the new "Beats Studio Buds +" that came out this week. Video on that coming in a few days. Really putting it to the test before I make a rushed video.
It's especially good in windy/noisy conditions. The clarity of bone conduction is just unsurpassed. Be aware that louder volumes with bone conduction will generally render your situational awareness as impaired as if you were wearing traditional earbuds. It's all about the signal to noise ratio
Bought a pair of cheep Chinese bone conductor earphones from Amazon just to try out. My skepticism was born out. The earphones were not true bone conducting. The head band did not press hard enough to work as advertised. Instead they were only speakers that located in front on the ear canal. The volume was adequate and I could hear environmental sounds. The feel was a little foreign to me but they'd probably work for someone that isn't as finicky. I'm not ready to switch from headphones and buds.
I cycle and I have used 3 different flagship bone conduction headphones from Shockz - starting back in 2017 when they were still Aftershokz. A fact you will have to live with - with all bone conduction headphones regardless of the price - is that the audio quality will be S**T with all bone conduction earphones: that's a trade off you have to make for bone conduction. What you gain is probably the best option for situational awareness. Unlike open ears with conventional drivers, the sound coming from the bone conduction is better separated from the audio coming from your headphones and definitely better than even the best passthrough modes on true wireless in-ear headphones. The only reason you would/should get these are if you want to hear what's happening around you. Otherwise there are always better options.

I love the fact that I can hear everything around me all while listening to my music or podcast while at my work. It’s amazing because you don’t have to waste battery life using transparency mode or anything like that
So first off, I'm not an fitness guy, but I bought a pair of Shokz Openmove(their most basic model, also their only model with USB-C charging) about 18 month ago as a solution to listening to audiobooks and music in bed.
I always had a problem with finding a comfortable position to sleep when wearing over-ear headphones, and had issues with in-ear headphones getting jammed in my ear if i was traveling and sleeping on a harder pillow.
they're fantastic, comfortable, and being open ear means i can still hear alarms and other noises around me.
Doesn't the wire wrapped around your skull disturb your sleep comfot?

For me, the Shokz have been a godsend as any in ear bud causes a mild allergic reaction. So, the Shokz has become my daily driver. I save the over the ear and in ear ones for airplanes where I need noise cancellation or where carrying the case for the Shokz is an inconvenience. I always carry the case because I want to keep the charger and headset together. Also, the Shokz are fantastic for cycling, particularly if I have to answer a phone call or if I just want to get past a tough stretch with some music or a podcast. I can do so without stopping.
Ive used the shokz aeropex daily for 2 years now without issues in a loud workshop environment. Paired with in-ear earprotectors that blocks most of the sounds the sound quality is decent. The proprietary charging cable with the magnet connection has never failed me so far, altough I always keep it plugged in in the same spot.
I use it daily for around 2 years as well, walking in them around the house, while taking care of garden, when I go for bike trip, sometimes during work (in relatively silent place) or going shopping, basically I have it on for like 4-10h a day (though with breakes, rarely I wear it for 6h straight or on bike trips for even 8-10h but not constantly on), nothing strange so far, except forgetting that I have them on
though I know people that had headache after 1-2 hours of wearing them, probably depends on shape or sensitivity of your head, it does put pressure around areas on head that rather don't like to be pressed
its rather not for trains, or similarly loud places, you can hear something more or less well but you have to close your ears to reduce outside noise but that removes some of its advantages and yeah, if you are without any form of larger storage (backpack or something) you have to keep it on head cause even if small with its shape its hard to call it compact... its compact but when on head

My wife and I have used our Shokz paired to our phones so we can talk to each other while riding eBikes and I use mine daily. One interesting "feature" is if you have earbuds you can use them on one device and the headset on another to listen to two sources. For example I used one to listen to a podcast while waiting on hold for a call (long hold time).

Bone conduction headphones aren't for everyone but they do fix a number of problems I've had with headphones and earbuds. (I've had the Shokz Open Run for about a few months) Biggest improvement is these fitting with no issue or hassle, that and they don't fall out period. Also being able to hear your environment when outside is a massive plus. These would have been perfect during my bike riding days.
However they do have drawbacks like you said; mostly with the charging. The Shokz ones do use a proprietary cable that only works with their products. That and personally, the audio quality isn't as good as regular headphones. With podcasts they're great, but when music quality is important they won't work.
But as you said I have these and a pair of JBLs Endurance Race for my earbuds that work great together. The Shokz when I need something convenient to wear and still hear my surroundings, while the JBLs are for my workout sessions and listening to music relaxing.
To each their own but bone conducting headphones are a great tech for active people that have weird ears like me and want something that just works.
Another pro is that these bone conducting headphones don't obstruct your ear canal.
Great video, I'm was skeptical with Bone conducting earphones but now I guess the only issue I'll be having with it is the charger and overall the cons is not that bad, I do feel disconnected when I use earbuds which is an issue when I'm near the road. Very helpful I would definitely buy one
I own a pair of Shokz Open Run Pro and love them. Great sound and super comfortable to the point it’s easy to forget I have them on. I don’t even mind the proprietary charger as I find the magnet connector faster to put on and remove than the usb-c connector. The one con I noticed was that as a glasses wearer, it fights with the arms of my glasses for real estate above my ears which makes the fit of my glasses less secure. I’ve had my glasses fall right off my face when I was bending down to pick something up because the Shokz had prevented them from hooking onto the back of my ear. Not a deal breaker for me but definitely something I need to be careful of if I’m wearing them out and about for extended periods of time.

Ah thank you for your comment. The past reviews I've watched haven't spoken about glasses at all and even I forgot about considering them despite having glasses myself. They're probably going to be a problem for me. I'll have to try them out in store first
I used shokz run pro more than 3 months now. It is comfortable for long time wearing (day of outing).
Never afraid it will drop at shocky condition like cycling, skiing.
I bought it main used for driving.
Now I could feel it is so good for sports.
Recently creative Logitech also release similar product, which combines swimming and talking mode for 2/3 price of Run pro. I am template to buy one more too.
The only cons is that it is hard to bought a spare charging cable > one leave at car and other leave at home!

In fact, I am delighted with this very lightweight audio headset, incredibly comfortable, with sound quality that is sufficient, and moreover, it performs much better than far more sophisticated products for making phone calls. It even works well for WhatsApp calls, which is not always the case with other headsets.
I am much more critical regarding the non-standard charger, which is truly bothersome. In fact, unlike most other headsets, if we forget the charging cable, we cannot replace it with a standard USB cable that we can find everywhere... we have to store the headset and wait until we return to charge it.
Do the company have the cable to buy outright from their websites/store fronts?
@@yeejay6396 Yes, you can buy the cable from Shocks. I had to buy 2 more when I lost my original charger. Now I keep one in my bathroom, and one in my car.
I really do like the Shokz. Most of the time I forget their in. Older models used Micro B to charge, which was a pain in the butt with the flap and it isn't as waterproof. The latter models use their proprietary connector. Super easy to connect and very waterproof. The Aeropex model even has two charge cords in the box. I'll wear earplugs with them, if I'm in a noisy environment and don't have to be as aware.
Regular earbuds are aren't as convenient to me. Two earbuds, are super easy to loose and a case. Also, one side or the other is going to fail and loose volume.
Bottom-line bone conduction headphones are the most convenient for long duration outdoor sports and activities.

Thanks for making this video dude. I think the lady at 4:23 is talking about eustachian tube dysfunction (I have it ) in-ear/over-ear headphones make it worse because they stop your ears from being able to breathe and you can feel a fullness/pressure or fluid sensation in your ear.
I'm using a pair of Shokz as we speak and they use a Type C charger cord.
The shokz open move and some older generations use type C but the newer ones have not. The IP rating and battery life is similar to older models so not sure why they are going away from it? Makes me feel like it’s for more “accessory sales” 🤷♂️

My first bone conducting headphones(Aftershokz Titanium) used micro-usb and had a flap over the charge port, which was a poa. Also, the IPC water rating wasn't as high as the Aeropex, Openrun Pros, which have a higher rating of IP68. With the old Titanium headphones the charge port, micro-usb, was a very common connector at the time, but the problem was getting getting water or sweat in the port. If your were lucky, you would get the message to dry the port out (a few hours) and if you weren't lucky you would have to sent your headphones in for warranty otherwise garbage bin. Last, I have the Delphin swim mp3 player, which charge through a 1.5mm audio jack and anytime you plug in the charger it pops up with a message to wait 8 hours after swimming before you charge them. In the end, I wish industry could agree on a standard, but I'm not to hopeful. Heck, it took 15 years and the EU to coerce Apple to put usb-c on their phones finally.
The new OpenRun Pro 2 switched back to USB-C. Thank God for that! 😂
I have used Shokz for about 4 years now. I can't put buds in my ear or use headphones over my ear for any length of time. I can be on teams meetings with Shokz for several hours with no issue. The sound quality is good enough for me.
What many videos fail to address is the sound quality of bone conduction headphones compared to average earbuds. While bone conduction headphones offer the versatility and comfort over traditional earbuds, this is really the only advantage. The sound is more equivalent to or worse than playing audio from your phone speaker and holding it near your ear. Don’t expect sound quality to come close to in-ear earbuds or you will be disappointed. If you’re not running with these, something like the Bose Soundwear that hangs around your neck is far superior. The Shoks may be fine for podcasts or audiobooks but for $150 they aren’t worth the poor sound quality unless your use case calls for their niche advantages.
Are you aware that phone speakers are not per se worse in sound quality than earbuds? Earbuds mostly sound good because you were them so close to your ear.

Oddly, my Shocks were bought after I discovered bone conduction gave me the full audio spectrum as well as my hearing aids. Leaving my ears open was a huge bonus.
Your honestly wrong I've used the bose version and there really just as good as most in ear earbuds. And this comes from someone that has tried and own many earbuds and headphones from Sony bose etc nothing low end and a good bone conduction one can really hold up to thos
I wear Shokz for one reason: I also wear hearing aids. They're good for that alone in my case.

As a long haul truck driver the Shokz bone conductive series was a game changer for years. My cats didn't have to listen to my music or audiobooks and I got decent DOT-compliant stereo sound. Unfortunately after years of use, the very necessary contact pressure started causing nerve pain. Just moved to OpenFit and was not disappointed
I like Shokz bone conduction earphones. I don’t have to worry about losing left or right buds. I can easily move it down to my neck to remove it temporarily. I lost too many ear buds so I settled with this.
Thanks for this review. I am currently using Beats fit Pro. Overall they are great (sound, ANC…). For sport activities indoor : great. Outdoor like running (trail) as soon as I am sweating they tend to get out of my ears, and not easy to adjust while running (press Stop, or next song…). That is why I am considering the Shokz OpenRun Pro. I will use them for outdoor sport activities, and the Beats for commuting.
Thanks for sharing! I also have the Beats fit pro. Have you tried buying 3rd party memory foam tips? that helped with mine. I stopped using them because the wingtip broke on my left ear. I had them for 13 months and was pretty let down apple wouldn't do anything. I would say go with Shokz I just used them again today because it was raining this monday. went and did 5 miles with rain and these work great for that.
If you’re reading this and you’re about to purchase some Shokz openrun or any of their lineup, they will randomly glitch one day. Don’t make me say I told you so, but from my experience, I’ve gone through 3 warranty replacements already, purchased the new openrun pro and it’s all the same. The shoks open move use usb-c charger. Thats the reason i got them. I use them for cycling. They may not have all the features of other options from the brand but the charger was the main factor for me. Thanks for the video

Like 1.7k, like yeah it flipped to 1.7 with my like. I use the Shokz Pro at work where I have to use ear plugs, over the ear headphones causes ear irritation. So for use at work Shokz is a game changer! I love em!!!!

Earbuds cause inner cartilage pain after a while so I prefer over ear headphones. But the JBL pair I own also cause outer cartilage pain after a few hours. These were my go to for work, but I got some Shokz and prefer those now, especially if I’m in the office. I like to hear my surroundings and not get surprised when someone walks up behind me. Sound is fine, not a problem for me.

I tried a pair of Shokz OpenRun Pro for a couple of days but was so disappointed I sent them back. Might be some weird quirk with my anatomy and the bone-conducting technology but the sound quality was absolutely dreadful, and music was unlistenable. All midrange with no bass or high end, and no stereo separation - sounded like a phone speaker playing from inside a pillow. Replaced them with a pair of Beats Fit Pro which seem amazing so far.
Tried a lot of BC headsets and yep, thinking the same while also thinking about $200+ I returned mine, reinvested and found better :)
The non-in-ear feature of bone conduction headphone is characterized by both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are healthier, safer and more hygienic. The disadvantage is that the ambient noise will affect the sound quality. I think it is more suitable for quiet environments or listening to background music.I also have a Shokz and a Wissonly Hi Runner myself, and Shokz works very well until after a heavy rain, its working state is very unstable, so I chose Wissonly with better waterproof performance.

But swimming is no problem. It should be noted that dont use it during sauna as it may affect its waterproofing.
I got mine (Shokz) about a year ago. I went thru expensive wireless headphones, cheap knock-offs with wire and everything in between. I never liked the feel of most in ear head pieces. I would get swamp ear, and they would have bad habit of falling out. I sweat a lot, and when i tried to run or jog in them they would fall out. I did not like the feel of some of the models that have the arms or handles around the ear. The big full size ear muffs are way to warm for my taste.
With the Shokz i don't worry about them falling off, the magnetic charging cable works without any problems (this wasn't really an issue except for some of the Chinese knock-offs), and i can still hear people, dogs and bicycles when the approach me from behind.
i have 2 - neither terribly expensive - and both use USB-C.
agree with you on situations, though. your example of airplane or, in my case, supermarket, they are terrible for. too much noise let through. on the other hand, if i'm say driving or hiking and do want ambient sound? terrific.

I have no right ear channel and my mid ear is disfunctional so these headphones make me hear stereo and can be used when I do not use over ears. Cannot understand why rear part is not adjustable to fit close to the head. Do this add more flex strength to fit a bit stronger or produce different stiffness and add better drivers and I pay the price. So which of them all sound best?

I was recently on the fence about buying bone conducting earfones and bit the bullet and got some shokz openrun and found the sound to be incredible when you use earplugs at the same time. It's weird but it actually sounds better and louder IMO, like it's being transmitted directly to your brain. I was going to return them when i saw the unique charger but decided to spend another $20 on 2 extra cables and 2 adapters for usb-c connector.

Shokz are perfect while biking because you can hear the noises around you. You are not excluded from the enviroment which is great because you hear cars etc. The quality of music is worse than in-ear headphones but if you need to hear the surrounding this really doesn't matter.
Hi, I have a Trekz Titanium by AfterShokz and it has a common USB Micro-B port. Sadly discontinued in 2020 but I still use them since they are great. I always do voice calls with them which is a total win inside the house.
I disagree with the convenience comment about how earbuds sliding into pockets are better. Shokz stay in your ears 16/24. I wear glasses so maybe I'm used to having something rest in my ears, but I always completely forget they even exist resting on my ears. It's maximum convenience or when it take it off just rest on my neck as a cool "necklace" accessory. With those small earbuds, you always have the fear of dropping and losing one, then you're stuck with half a pair and gotta go buy another set, it's absolutely trash, I lost over 4 pairs of earbuds before finding the perfect design in Shokz.
The Trekz Titanium had a micro USB port if I'm not mistaken... it's two or three generations older than the OpenRun, back when Shokz was still called AfterShokz. I guess they changed to a proprietary connection because of the water resistance issue - you need a gasket to keep water away from the charging port, which is the first thing to fail. I also kinda hate proprietary ports, perhaps they could have adopted something more universal, but I can kinda see why they would want to spin their own thing. Magnetic style cables afaik are mostly for smartwatches and whatnot, and I dunno if they'd be the right fit for it even if they look similar.
But the Titanium is also heavier, bulkier, teenier and volume doesn't go as high. You get that tickling effect at a way lower volume level too, which is annoying.
It's also the first time I see another brand for bone conduction that is actually bone conduction... most of the off brands that claim to be bone conduction just throw a tiny regular driver there instead to blast to your ears, so it's not actually bone conduction. The tech is highly proprietary and Shokz have been refining it for almost a decade now, so it is one of those cases that off brands won't be able to get quite there.
I haven't been running much anymore, but I use it on lots of situations... in fact, any situation I need to use headphones. Earbuds, regular cup headphones, and a bunch of other types I tried before getting the bone conduction thing they all had major problems for me... sweat was definitely among them, but just overall discomfort, causing pimples, blocking ear channel, falling out, you name it. I tried the ones with flaps, with those clips that go around the ear, the moldable stuff, several different shapes of buds... none of them could beat my sweaty ears. xD
Before them though, I used the Sony NWZ line... lots of people don't like the neckband, I kinda depended on it to stop headphones from falling.
Lots of commenters gave this tip already, but if you wanna block ambient sound away, ear protectors will do the job. Of course it won't get as loud as earbuds, but it's surprising how much you can hear if you isolate ambient noise...
The only thing I miss from the NWZ line is how it can act as both Bluetooth headphones and a standalone mp3 player... it was kinda wonky in implementation, but after I got it working it was kinda nice to be independent from a smartphone or secondary device. :P
I agree the charger is disappointing, almost did get them because of that however try this for plane, train, and automobile rides or wherever you don't want to hear outside noise, pop in a pair of ear plugs and you're set.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I agree with everything you’ve said, and have a pair of Shokz (old version though). They are my go-to for running, but they don’t work as well as earbuds for everyday use. My daughter has the latest Shokz and they have a USB-C charger so hopefully that will be brought in across their range.

I've been using a set of Skullcandy Indy Evo's. No disappointment so far, even whilst jogging in the rain.

Thanks for the review, I've been interested in these for a while but always end up backing out and buying something more traditional instead. Why would you not use these if it doesn't rain at the marathon? I don't feel like the cons addressed why another choice was more appropriate.
For me personally since its my first full marathon I didn't know what to expect. I love both of these bone conducting headphones when it comes to my long runs. (running in LA, lots of cars) and when its raining (because of the durability). In a Marathon I don't have to worry about traffic but I ended up using my bone conducting headphones because it did rain lol.
The Shokz work great with rain or no rain or if you're a heavy sweater like me.
if you are still looking for headphones with a type C charging cable, openmove, which is another model shokz has made, the headphones are not as high quality as the two high-end openrun and openrun pro, but are still okay, you just have to be careful that it's only IP55 water resistant, just so you knew, remember, it's just a suggestion 🙂

@@Aesthetic_Al I can understand you, I have shokz openrun, And I have also been afraid if something will happen to the charging cable, but so far there has been nothing, and if you lose it anyway, I know you can find extra charging cables on the internet, I only know that you can find them for the shokz models, I am really glad that you have come up with some solutions
Shokz open move uses USBC and has been very resilient to water and sweat. I have used them in both the shower and pool. Probably not the best idea but they have held up and they are reasonably cheaper at about $80
I have been using bone conduction mainly Shokz since their former name AfterShokz. Titanium, Air, aeropex, Open Run, and currently Open Move is USB C. since its Open Move cheaper than the rest. i have been using it recklessly even showering. and yeah they works
I love the shokz. I got the mini version , they still sit a little low for me, near my Tragus.
I like it because it’s not in my ear, I don’t feel sweat going towards my earbuds
The best reason to have them is awareness of traffic and any sexual predators , and irresponsible dog owners.
Yes the music won’t be amazing but I’m not using if for superior quality music, it’s to get me through my run when I’m lacking motivation
I try not to use music at all running. A lot of organised runs down allow music usage either so it’s a good idea to get accustomed to no music .

I work in a restaurant, would these be good to use? In the sense it gets loud in the kitchen when closing due to dish and stuff. Would I be able to hear these, while no one else hears them even when the volume is higher then 50%? I have good earbuds (don’t want them being ruined by slipping out of ear while working) and have a pair of Powerbeats pro which I like because they sound good and stay on your ear. But they are nearing the end of their life cycle so I’m unsure if I want to buy another pair or spend the money on these instead
Shokz are simply great for cycling. Sound and wind noise is going to be bad no matter what you use on a cycle - so no down sides - only upside with bone conduction. For the same reason I use another Shokz headphones when swimming.
I have yet to buy them, but I was told that they work great while using safety ear muffs.
I could see that. I moved into a new house they just finished building and all the construction crew here was using them... if you do decide to get them lemme know if they work out
That was a big mistake for the Trekz Air, changing the charging type. Earlier versions use micro-usb and I buy them on eBay and they are my daily driver. When not on my temples, they sit on my neck and I don't have to put them down (and lose them). I wear them all day, every day. The nice thing is that you can hear an oncoming threat because your ears are open.
I'd love for you to check out the BAVIN BH35 sports earphones. It's a cheap generic brand that has a USB-C charging interface
Thanks for your opinion, I agree with it too, it's a year since you posted this video but would you know of a brand that are fully waterproof and us a USB-C charging cable. So at least it can be charged anywhere my cellphone can get power. Either way thank you for the video and your time.
I love my Shokz. Mine uses a standard usb-c charger so i really have no complaints. I use mine mostly while i work, i work in a machine shop so there is a lot of ambient noise.
Good stuff. You maybe have the OpenMove. Ive been using now the Shokz Openfit and pretty happy with them. They also are now using the USB-C 🙌
June 2014: Bought a $20 pair, just to see if it even worked. Came with type-C charger.
Sound is great. My only issue is these are no good for phonecalls. People can not hear me well. Maybe a better pair?

Much appreciated! Running with a cap is perfectly fine from my experience, with sunglasses it will feel like over the ear hooks. Some might not like it will depend on the individual.

I use JBL ear buds but haven't been in the rain much with them. I only wear one when walking my dogs or out in life. If I have both in, I also have them on situational are. It makes a difference having that situational awareness. No way will I down out the world, mashed me wonder why others will

For using indoor sport like gym, will the music in the gym distract the music from the bone conducting headphones? Like both music will crash on each other since you can hear sounds from your surrounding
I've tried some of these, and while I do like the technology I simply haven't found a set where the band is long enough from my head (not while swimming, anyhow). My head is big, but not huge (24" / 61cm circumference) and apparently there's no pair of bone-conducting headphones on the market that's large enough.
Saw one comment from a glasses wearer about conflict with the band on the shokz and the temple pieces on the glasses.
Any more comments about this?
Dude, these Sanags that I got on Temu for $20 are actually pretty decent, and they do charge by USB-C.
I have loved my shokz aeropex and where them for work, exercising, and just listening to music/movies, taking phones, or gaming. I am not a fan of the newer models because I don't believe the sound quality is as good and they are not as loud. I am curious what the new openswim pro models sound like. The charger system is a non-issue if you consider the fact every device seems to have a different system, but they all tend to connect through a usb on one end. My only issue is the durability. If you are rough with them they will break and start to rattle, however shokz has been great replacing them if they are still under warranty.
Phillips bone conducting headphones use USB-C for charging. They have great build quality and sound quality equal to Skokz.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro. They sound better, and most bone conduction headphones with have the vibration in them to give it a better experience. I Pinned a comment with a newer video if you want to check how they sound it might help. You can't go wrong with Shokz or Phillips. Great sound

i want to buy these for my father. he owns a shop and he needs to talk to the employee and listen outside noise too, so I just have one question can he wear these everyday, like is there any headache issues, or other problem
The thing with BC tech is that there isn’t really a good cheap alternative. Ya gotta shell out at least $80-100 but they’re worth every penny. They’re on my head for 12 hours a day
Mine are not type-c charging, but they have sound a whole lot better than any Shokz. Never did hear your opinion about the Phillips sound...
I have been using my Aftershocks bone conducting headphones for years as my daily drivers at work. And in comparison to earbuds and even some over the ear ones I prefer the sound of the bone conducting ones. The only problems I have with the bone conducting ones is that 1. if the ambient noise gets too loud it cancels out the headphones unless 2. I turn it up louder to the point that they feel like they are vibrating my entire head. This is an easy fix with a pair of earplugs *kinda* because the sound quality suffers for it and defeats the purpose of having the open ear design. At the sound level I usually keep it which is slightly lower than 50% I think, I get 10+ hours of continuous play. I have had no problem with the pocket issue because I never take them off. As far as the proprietary charging cable it is a slight hassle that they don't have something more universal but they mag link they use holds so well that I wish *it* was the standard for charging cables. If wearing glasses or sunglasses they can be an issue as well since they are both competing for space on your ear at the same time. For me though this is little to no issue because I only wear sunglasses in the car and it's usually not for long enough for it to be an issue.
I will gladly trade a little music quality for being able to hear the environment around me and also not get pimples inside my ears. I will also second the guy who forgets his are on his head, great for extended wear honestly.

I wish I would've got these day 1 that I started running! I am currently making a video on the New Shokz OpenFit. They are like if Shokz OpenRun Pro blended with the Powerbeats.
@@Aesthetic_Al Ive seen those, I heard they retain music quality better than the Open Run, but I'm a little skeptical about being able to hear the outside world as well as you can with the OpenRuns. The shokz are nice for more than running, I use them while hiking or just in public settings in general. It's nice hearing all the birds and things and not interrupting other people with music.
I mainly use them for activities such as mountain biking or riding a bike outside where I can still hear stuff going on around me. But use my beats pro for other stuff or hearing stuff is not as necessary.
I hear through them loud and clear. But air conducting sound heard through the eardrums will alway be louder. But now i gotta check

I havent tried the latest Powerbeats but I have the new "Beats Studio Buds +" that came out this week. Video on that coming in a few days. Really putting it to the test before I make a rushed video.

how well does it work when it is very windy? When biking, in windy conditions or downhills, I generally can't hear audiobooks etc
It's especially good in windy/noisy conditions. The clarity of bone conduction is just unsurpassed. Be aware that louder volumes with bone conduction will generally render your situational awareness as impaired as if you were wearing traditional earbuds. It's all about the signal to noise ratio
Do they also work as hearing aid? I mean for is it effective for single sided deafness to use for catching environment sound, not only music?
Bought a pair of cheep Chinese bone conductor earphones from Amazon just to try out. My skepticism was born out. The earphones were not true bone conducting. The head band did not press hard enough to work as advertised. Instead they were only speakers that located in front on the ear canal. The volume was adequate and I could hear environmental sounds. The feel was a little foreign to me but they'd probably work for someone that isn't as finicky. I'm not ready to switch from headphones and buds.

I cycle and I have used 3 different flagship bone conduction headphones from Shockz - starting back in 2017 when they were still Aftershokz.
A fact you will have to live with - with all bone conduction headphones regardless of the price - is that the audio quality will be S**T with all bone conduction earphones: that's a trade off you have to make for bone conduction.
What you gain is probably the best option for situational awareness. Unlike open ears with conventional drivers, the sound coming from the bone conduction is better separated from the audio coming from your headphones and definitely better than even the best passthrough modes on true wireless in-ear headphones.
The only reason you would/should get these are if you want to hear what's happening around you. Otherwise there are always better options.
