    We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.
    ► freethoughtblog...
    TH-cam comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of TH-cam comment sections, in our experience.
    We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
    The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
    The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
    We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

      I discovered that scientists and atheists are liars early in life. I was in physics class in high school, and our physics teacher was explaining Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity to us. He explained that Einstein had proven that a moving clock would be slower than a clock that is not moving. For the moving clock I imagined a clock in a flying airplane and for the clock that was not moving, a clock on the ground. It was obvious to me that if the pilot of the airplane had a slower clock than an observer on the ground to time the flight of the airplane, he would get a faster speed for the airplane than the observer on the ground. Then I read Einstein's book on the subject and was surprised to learn that he was using equations that show that the pilot of the airplane and the observer on the ground would get the same speed for the airplane.
      x'=(x-vt)/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)
      y'=y
      z'=z
      t'=(t-vx/c^2)/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)
      inverse equations
      x = (x' + vt')/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)
      y = y'
      z = z'
      t = (t' + vx'/c^2)/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)
      v is the speed of the airplane and is the same speed as seen from either frame of reference. But we common people live in something called reality. It is just a fact that if the pilot of the airplane has a slower clock than the observer on the ground, he will get a faster speed for the airplane. What Einstein's equations show is a mathematical description of a miracle. If atheists
      want to have a miracle, I certainly have no objection, but most of their objections to religion are based on the supposition that miracles are impossible. What I find interesting about this problem is that in more than 50 years of trying to discuss this with atheists and scientists, I have yet to encounter one who will even respond to this difficulty, other than a few scientists who respond with profanity and insults that someone would question Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. So let's have a little experiment. Watch how many atheists respond to this post.

      @rbwinn3 First of all, you made a claim that is purely from anecdotal evidence when you start off by making the claim that atheists and scientists start off as liars in early life. What is the evidence for that claim, and how is it a valid point at all, even if it was true?

    • @brandongoss6971

      @rbwinn3 If you have yet to have a discussion with an atheist or a scientist about this subject, how do you know that they start off with the presupposition that a miracle is absolutely impossible? Could it be possible that the atheist community at large realizes that there needs to be verifiable non anecdotal evidence, in order to hold a belief?What verifiable, non anecdotal evidence do you have for the existence of the supernatural?

      @Steve Hayes then almost no one is getting into any sort of heaven in modern days, even modern soldiers don't meet the bill.
      the reason pascal's wager is stupid is because every holy book has criteria for how you actually behave and treat others, alongside the fact that genuine "faith" in such a being will show in your actions
      and the general statement that those lying to god are in more trouble than a kid burning his parent's house to the ground for kicks
      as stupid and chaining as religion and Christianity are though, pascal's wager at it's core isn't entirely wrong
      someone truly following christ should have nothing to fear regardless of if a god..or what god exists
      those emulating christ are genuinely good people by any measure of the word, and to not grant them access shows that you're not worth being worshiped or followed by anyone

      Religion has money. And, like pitching a product or brand, they can power revenue generation...wirh the money they've already got.
      Atheism is, generally, younger, smaller, with smaller groups with shallow to nonexistent budgets.
      So religion can afford to advertise. And, generally, atheism can't.
      Also, while there may be quibbles between secularists, there's not the competition for market share as there is, in Canada and the US, between Christian sects.

As a parent, I lay down rules for the kids but eventually, they will learn the principles behind the rule. One of my favorite personal stories, was a man I was visiting quite often, mainly because he was a scientist / biologist and never believed in God. We talked often about Science, and often about religion. He told me he was never afraid to die, and by science, everything has a lifespan in which it returns to the earth from which it came, and thus is the process of the circle of life. Understandable, he had devoted 50 years of his life to his research, and although I would talk about Jesus and God randomly with him, he always shrugged away from the topic. I came back to the hospital a month later to investigate another patient, when I was told by a nurse that the Scientist wanted to speak with me.
    I went into his room, and when he saw me, his eyes flared up in desperation. He went on to tell me that two weeks ago, he had a stroke, and was dying. When he was dying he had a vision, in which he could see his own mother and father smiling at him, and behind them, and older man with a warm smile. He told me he recongnized the old man, to which I responded..... Uncle ?, Grandfather ?. He just looked at me, shook his head, and reponded with, Jesus, that he had a picture when he was just a boy in his room of Jesus, and it looked exactly similar to that picture
    I couldn't believe it. Since this man was not religious in any sense, and devoted his life to science, but for the first time he told me he was actually afraid of dying, and confront an entity which he spent his life trying to de-bunk. And it was the first time he asked me, still very hesitant, about the Bible, and the exact teachings of Jesus.

      No, you don't get to weasel your god into things, that's a priori rationalization. You can interpret it that way, but you'd be wrong, because God and gods aren't demonstrable or necessary to have working understanding of the universe
      We don't work correctly if you're looking at humans as anything "designed". Even if I point out several unassailable examples of our flawed nature, like even the basic fact of senescence, our cells having a limit to how much they can divide and then they basically stop, which leads to the aging process., you can just shift the goalposts and insert sin as the explanation for why we are flawed in that supposed "design", but you'd still have to admit we are no longer designed by an entity that seems to care about our well being, because it hasn't intervened, but is just waiting for whatever appointed time it has in mind to fix everyone.
      But sin is as useful an explanation as god in terms of things that have an explanation we can demonstrate and is the best model given our knowledge
      Deathbed confessions are usually people afraid of death in the first place finally just resorting to a supernatural explanation out of ignorance and fallacious logic that this incredulous thing must be true because it posits something so incredulous in the first place

      Dear @@MendicantBias1 ,
      Thank you very much for your thoughtful response.
      No this is not the problem of 'infinite regression'.
      1.) Yes, I asked a question, which is in line with the Socratic Method. Socratic debate is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking. The Socratic Method is a method of hypothesis elimination, so that better hypotheses are found by steadily identifying and eliminating those that lead to contradictions or have logical inconsistencies. The basic form is a series of questions formulated as tests of logic. [Thanks to Wikipedia]
      Thus keeping in line with the method of Socratic dialog, I am requesting you to use your powers of reasoning and critical thinking to answer the aforementioned questions. If your response is “I don’t know”, that is Okay. Thus I have put forth my theory or hypothesis of reincarnation, or “transmigration of the soul”, and in order for you to reject it, then you must point out any logical inconsistencies and contradictions of my argument. If you listen to “The Atheist Experience”, this is what the hosts are so expert in doing.
      2.) Because you are an atheist, you are predisposed to reject any theory or hypothesis that does not comply with physical-ism or materialism. And I believe that physical-ism or materialism is your religion.
      3.) By relying only on physical-ism or materialism alone, you are completely ignoring different levels of reality and/or existence. For example, as you are reading this, you are hearing these words in your head. However on the physical level, sound is simply the compression and rarefication of air molecules. (Of course sound can also be produced in other mediums, such as water or metal.) As you are reading this, on the physical level, no sound is being produced. There are no sound waves impacting your eardrums. All that is happening is that you are looking at pixels on a computer screen, and you are hearing the “sound” of your mind. The sound of your mind that you are hearing is not physical, nor is it being produced by any physical apparatus. (Neuroscientists have not resolved this issue.) There are many other examples of real-life experiences which do not comply with physical-ism or materialism.
      4.) Reincarnation, transmigration of the soul, in conjunction with, cause and effect (karma) is a plausible and logical theory which answers many questions, and in order to refute this theory, you must point out its contradictions and logical inconsistencies.
      5.) I am confused with your statement regarding “something that cannot be proven false”. That sounds like a double negative, doesn’t that make it true?

    The true Spirit of peace and love for all humans, is not an evil God, but is the Father of all reality. The very Spirit and Truth of all existence and life. Where only evil people call him an evil God.

    Since when is a Christian not responsible????? I say a Christian is even more responsible than an Atheist because an Atheist is more likely to contract and spread the AIDS virus than a Christian would and the Atheist calls this "Freedom". These people talk out of the sides of their mouths and expect me to believe their B.S.????? LOLOL

      There are all manner of humans that have had aids, and many have been christian.
      As a matter of fact, because catholic rules say condoms are sinful, the church has encouraged the spread of aids, among other diseases.
      Religion is poisonous. ☠️

      the bible describes how to treat your slaves. The bible says that god asked abraham to kill his kid to prove his love for him, the flood of Noah supposedly killed every man, woman, and child except one family, and god made human sacrifice a requirement to forgive everyone's sins instead of just, you know... forgiving the sins without all the sacrifice parts. Vicarious redemption is gross, your god is a jealous bully, and I am morally superior to your god because I think owning people is wrong.

      @@razorback7874 The Bible describes the Law of slavery in that day. God didn't allow Isaac to be sacrificed. God wiped out the wickedness that infected his world. Are you referring to Jesus's sacrifice on the cross? Humankind were a lost cause at that point and this is how He wanted to redeem them. Vicarious Redemption is the only way humankind would deserve Heaven, therefore you may as well be destroyed or burn in Hell. He never wanted this for us. Where is He a jealous bully? God never condoned slavery; people took it upon themselves to enslave others.
