Best Oils For Deep Frying | Critical Health Advice is a video that shows you which oils that you should and should not use when deep frying.
The best oils for cooking healthy are not any oil you stumble across at the grocery store. Rather these are very specific oils that have a particular biochemical makeup. This topic becomes even more important when you think about the best cooking oil for deep frying.
The first thing that is important when considering cooking oils is to choose oils that are not hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated. This is important because these types of oils cause omega 6 dominance in the body and inflammation which essentially leads to health concerns like arthritis. Conventional cooking oils are almost all bad fats that need to be avoided at all times.
The best oil for deep frying is avocado oil. It has an incredible heat tolerance and smoke point that beats out all the rest. A close second, and even a personal favorite of mine, is coconut oil because it also has a high heat tolerance. More importantly its affordable. Lets face it, when you start deep frying you will need a lot of oil and buying a big jug of avocado oil is not cheap.
The best oils for deep frying is an important choice to make when it comes to your overall health. Its almost impossible to have good health while consuming unhealthy fats on a daily basis. So be sure to not make that mistake.
The best cooking oils for frying will allow you to make delicious food, but also allow you to do it in a way that supports good health. The best part is that its even acceptable while following the ketogenic diet. When I first discovered this, it was a huge moment for me as I love sweet potato fries and I thought I was doomed to never eat them again. Now my family loves using the best oils for deep frying to make delicious foods. Healthy fats for keto are all included in these delicious fats as they are all keto approved.
I hope you enjoyed this video on the best deep frying oil for better health. The best oils for deep frying will improve your health and lifestyle and should never be overlooked.

This is something I’ve always wanted to know!
I love it to cook eggs
Thanks now I know, i use Avocado oils lot, and coconut oil to fry anything. Use olive oil for my salads. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing Dr. Nick; this is great and vital information!! Just one question! Can the oils, apart from butter be reused?
What's your thoughts on deep frying with tallow and duck fat? Personally I use Avocado oil.
How lovely of you to make this video. I’ve been waiting for this!
Lard is the one you left off I'd be curious about care to weigh in?
I have seen people marketing grape seed oil as high smoke point oil but I stick with avocado, coconut oil and ghee.
lots of people in the know, say seed oils are very unhealthy?
Great information. I will change my bad habits. Liked. Subscribed. Thank you.
Great explanation thank you doc. 👍👍👍
What do you think about palm oil?
Amazing informative video... Thanks for pointing out the smoke point of butter.. I'll definitely keep that in mind.. Love your videos.
What about animal fats? Dripping and lard etc?
Bacon grease is good
@@kailanxo Thank You for the bacon 🥓 grease advice.
Thanks Nick, buying some coconut oil today
Thank you Doc for another informative video on different oils . Can’t thank you enough. To be frank I just knew good fat like butter isn’t good anymore once it goes thru a high heating point . 👍
yes, i love to cook chicken garlic parmesan on a butter and i realize it's not healthy, so better just to use some oils in moderation or much better to switch to avocado oil and olive oil 😊
Thxxxxxxxx....
Great information! Thank you.
Hi Dr. Nick......if using avocado oil to fry how many times can you reuse the oil before going bad?
Thanks for your great videos👍😀
Exactly wanna know abt it too. How many times can we reuse ghee?
I would just be more clear about refined vs unrefined coconut oil. Refined Coconut oil Smoke Point is 450 F. However, Unrefined Virgin coconut oil smoke point is 350F. So for fried chicken (for example) which you want to cook at 350 F refined coconut oil is what you want to buy.
Thanks for clarifying. Exactly what I was looking for.
What about Lard or Tallow?? As a Carni I would think this would be the best option.
What about lard?
Lard has a smoke point of 374 F, so it's just about as shitty as butter.
lard has nearly one-fourth the saturated fat and more than twice the monounsaturated fat as butter
@@offpsoriasis4398 coconut oil also has large amount of saturated fats about 83/99 saturated to all fat content ratio. It is even more than lard 39/100 (per 100g) but it is far better option for frying
@@makeomengreatagain True, coconut oil is a saturated fat but as soon as it touches your skin its melts, so not hard to digest at all like animal fats. And coconut oil has what mother's milk has -lauric acid. It is a great remedy for psoriasis internally and externally.
This is amazing! All the information I was looking for with actual correct dietary information. Thank you!
Palm oil is most stable and only oil suitable for deep fried. Let's be open. Palm oil is the oil with highest content of vitamin E, antioxidant, carotene etc. Palm oil also best oil for environment, because most efficient, less land area with more volume of oil, no other oil come even close.
But does it change the flavor? People aren't gonna like that and palm oil is probably expensive to fill a countertop deep fryer
I am a bit surprised to hear of being allowed sweet potato chips - on the Keto diet? Did I misunderstand? Very useful info on the oils I really liked that.
There are different kinds of avocado oils, one being no good for cooking, while the other has been processed with similar techniques as typical vegetable oils, so not sure if that's a good option. Also, there seems to be some disagreement on the smoke point of coconut oil, unless that too has different forms.
Hi, can I use extra virgin olive oil when having a sautéed vegetables? If I have to fry fish or meat, Is pure ghee better than extra virgin olive oil? Thank you
Really informative content on oils! 👌 Speaking of which, have you tried Honey Lavender Magic as a home remedy for burns? It's been a game-changer for me!
Please advise, can i deep fry with groundnut oil or sunflower oil? Thanks
I really wanna try deep frying with avocado oil but it's 20x the price of the polyunsaturated oils.
What about Lard?
Lard is fat from pigs, tallow is fat from cows, there's also duck fat and suet which is fat from sheep and from cattle that comes from the fat around lions and the kidney area. I use lard for frying because it's cheaper and better for healthy frying as my grandmother and her mother and so on did.
Start to oxidase after 170° celsius (not so good)
@Fativore Lifestyle Yes, you are correct on the partially hydrogenated part! No one should use that. However, "lard" and "tallow" have their own meaning. You cannot: "...render your own lard with grass fed beef tallow." Lard is from pigs and tallow is from ruminants such as cattle, sheep, etc. You can't turn one into the other.
only refined coconut oil has that heat point.
In an effort to stretch my avocado oil, could I use half avocado & half coconut oil? Maybe it would come in at a smoke point of 475°?
Thank you for information
Thank you
Thanks
How about sunflower oil?
i like to know how many time you can re use the Oil , thanks
Belgian fries -- and these are the best in the world -- are made with beef tallow. And Belgians are pretty slim and pretty healthy.
This is exactly what I need to know! Thank you!
this what im looking for what kind of healthy oil i need
Is rice bran oil a good oil, for frying and you in general?
Peanut butter oil?
Did blood work before and after, using virgin coconut oil for frying my vegetables. My cholesterol went to the roof. FYI
LDL or Total Cholesterol?
What about beef tallow?
Thanks concise and informative. Question is lard and ghee the same?
Lard is Animal fat , Ghee is made from Butter
How about refined palm oil?
The avacado and coconut oil mentioned in your presentation, are they extra virgin oil or refined ? What would be the difference in smoke point between EV and refined ?
I find that extra virgin coconut oil also imparts a very strong coconut flavour to the food being cooked in it, more so than EVOO. That's why I sometimes used the refined coconut oil.
EV is a lower smoke point than refined
Thanks for the interesting info. What about the idea (which I hear elsewhere on TH-cam) that vegetable oils - though subject to oxidization - are healthier because they have a lower saturated fat content than most of the oils and fats you recommend?
I've heard conflicting things about peanut oil and deep frying. Any advice?
Thumbs-up and thank you. One question, would coconut oil leave an after-taste in something like french fries? You mentioned olive oil effecting the flavor of the food but did not say anything about olive oil.
I fry my shoestring frozen fries with coconut oil and yes it leaves a coconut taste on the fries. I use a Georgia Foreman Evolve Grill and it only requires a teaspoon of oil per grill pan of fries :))
It would be nice if you could have also added the temperature in degrees celcious.
Is refined olive oil good for you?
V helpful, thank you. Would be great if you had Celsius as well as Fahrenheit temps on the board 😉
here ya go!
avocado oil- 260°C
coconut oil- 232.2°C
ghee- 251.67°C
olive oil (extra virgin)- 215.6°C
olive oil (refined)- 242.22°C
butter- 176.7°C
I m not sure about those unsatulated fat can use in deep frying. Such as olive oil. Avocado oil.
It needs hydronated before suitable for high heat cooking. Except satulated fatty acid type oil coconut oil.
Avocado oil has a fairly high smoke point. You can also use hog lard which also has a lot of healthy unsaturated fats along with it's saturated fats but has no trans fats as long as it isn't added in which would be used to increase it's shelf life. Lard is very heat stable.
Sunflower oil smoke point 232 degrees celcius. Fahrenheit is confusing and unnecessary imho
Thank you.
What about tallow and lard?
Thank you so much Doc for your valuable information we really have misinformation about these oils.
please which kind of cocnut oil is good for frying?
another question please, is pomace olive oil good for deep fryi g?
Thank you so much doctor, but can you please a send another question that I have, can I reuse the avocado oil if I used for example to fry some sweet plantains???? Please hope you can answer my question. Thank you
Great video! I wish you would've mentioned one final category... What about the people like me who "combine" these oils to gain not only a healthy option but control taste?
Example: I like to mix Coconut oil and Extra virgin Olive Oil with a touch of Ghee. For some reason, this just makes the best "taste" on most fried foods. I usually never raise my deep fryer above 485 degrees, and I strain my oil well to ensure it isn't compromised later. I also reserve flavoring for "after" sautéing, or if I deep fry with a batter, I only reuse the oil 3 times, and I follow the well known trick of adding starch to my oil and then boiling it to make sure I filter out all impurities.
So is mixing oils okay?
I'm dietitian, but I would guess that it would be OK. I'd probably try to stay close to oils with the same smoke point range, but I say go for it. Better than mixing the crappy oils.
You didn’t mention
Fractionated Coconut Oil
Why don’t I hear anything about grape seed oil anymore? It used to be touted as a very healthy oil.
What about palm oil from Indonesia and Malaysia?
Do you have a video on palm oil?
What about animal fat?
Thanks for the useful video! Does coconut oil make things taste like coconuts? Gonna subscribe as this was a very informational video so thanks again!
Thank you and welcome to the channel! We are happy to have you! And not really, the flavor is pretty neutral
What are the smoke points for animal fats?
Some of them 350 or so
I tried coconut oil once but, man, it smelled terrible!
i love its smell yummmmm :3
Dr. Nick Zyrowski
Thanks for the reply. I will try another brand.
@@dhanish3702 I LOVE The coconut smell, soooo good
Yes,and it foams like crazy! I had to clean the stove and mop the floor! Use it only for stir fry not deep fry.
Is it ok to reuse coconut oil in a deep fryer
Palm oil also good
So why exactly did you not mention peanut oil
Thank you. There are times that I want to deep fry something like cheese sticks or chicken, but I don't do it very often. Do I have to change the oil a lot? How long does the oil last and is it ok to refrigerate it or freeze it so it last longer?
What about Canola Oil?
Sir I've seen a couple of your videos..and you explain topics with quality information..and clear points ..I've seen videos on acv and keto..but sir I'm skinny and looking for how to gain weight..can you make a video on how to gain weight in a healthy manner.. 😊
If those oils were arranged in descending order of smoke point, then surely Ghee should be second down the list?
Thank you Dr
Thank you 😊
Grapeseed oil is good for frying
Mustard oil?
How many times can you deep fry with the same coconut oil?
Smoke point isn't a good indicator of oxidation, only flash point.
Please tell me can I reuse Avocado oil after using it one time to deep fry chicken?
Also can I blend Avocado and olive oil for deep frying?
What is grape seed oils good for?
What is the difference between pan frying and deep fat frying? I use coconut oil for what I consider pan frying, about half an inch of it and I do not get it to the smoke point.
Doc u have another video sayin coconut oil is a poison? where do u stand on this today?
what about "whirl"? butter flavored oil, will this be good for a comercial fryer?
Thank you another informative video
How good is vegetable oil for frying potatoes?
Don’t use Olive oil for cooking as you will kill all the Polyphenals which are its good stuff for your body. Olive oil should only be served at normal temperatures on salads etc.
How long should deep fat fryer oil keep in the fryer when not being used. Like a restaurant shuts down for 2 week vacation?
Is Organic sunflower oil not a good option for deep frying?
hello can i ask a question ? is Rapeseed oil as bad as the other vegetable oils?
Hey i am asian ( pakistani) and usually our food involve lotsss of cooking sooo please tell me cooking in olive oil ( refined) is safe ...?? Right...?? ( i mean to say that my sister cook for almost like hour ) so its safe or nottt.... plz answer meeee....
Great video, Can we reuse the deep fried oil
Yes up to 3 times and after sieveing the deep fry bits. But be aware if they were cooked in wheat, shellfish, etc. Infuses so cross contamination if someone has a allergic to any of that.
Bobby flav says expeller pressed is best but I couldn't find it in stores. Can you fry with it?
He said you shouldn't cook with evoo though
I luv that blue shirt on you😍
Opinion on deepfrying in lard? or for that mater tallow?
Glad to hear they're still good. Lard's my go-to fat for frying. Not seeing it in the video got me a little worried... XD
I see alot of people have asked this and haven't gotten a response. How many times can you reuse Avocado oil on breaded fried chicken? Same question for foods like french fries with no breading?
You have to look at the color of the oil. And avocado oil to fill a fryer gotta be more expensive than peanut oil
What about canola oil?
Canola oil is highly inflammatory
can you reuse these oils for deep frying like you would with the typical deep frying oils such as using a filter to strain out any deep fried bits left in the oils? Also are any of these particular better or less harsh on a gallbladder.
I’ve always used olive oil and it works great!
For sauteing yes
You want fries and deep fried wings for a treat?? NO
@@KingJT80you're dead wrong
@@joshmatthewson7154 incorrect.
Olive oil has way too low of a smoke point to deep fry.
You need a high smoke point oil with a neutral taste to deep fry. Canola vegetable peanut avocado corn will all work with avocado being the healthiest but also really expensive.
and olive oil changes the flavor of the food you're cooking on top of that.
@@KingJT80 You're thinking of extra Virgin Olive oil with the smoke point.. Olive oil is totally fine
@@joshmatthewson7154 the majority of olive oils bought are extra virgin. Hardly anyone uses that one for deep frying.
