I can honestly say that this film wasn't really what I thought it would be. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Just that it could have been done better. In the film we don't really learn much of the main characters, other than they're villains simply because they feel like they have to be. Now that's an interesting story, but only Wolf and Snake explain why they choose to be the bad guys (and it's very limited), while we don't get any story from the other three. The other characters don't really have a lot of development either. Plus, it was also very cartoonish (and quite childish at times), and I really have to add...the story was quite predictable. Another thing is how there are some animals with human features, yet there are other animals that resemble actual animals - it just doesn't make any sense. And finally, everything happened too quickly - it was also like the movie was trying to get the story over with; so the movie definitely needed to be longer. What I think would of helped was if we had more backstory to each of the main characters (and not just the gang). Maybe some flashbacks at their childhoods, and growing up, and what eventually lead them to turn to a life of crime...and of course form as a group. As well as including more story to the others: what made Marmalade choose to act good but secretly be bad; why Luggins is so obsessed with The Bad Guys; and more on Diane and her life as a criminal before deciding to turn over a new leaf. Another missed opportunity...was Wolf and Diane. I mean, the chemistry between them is so obvious, but nothing is done about it. Hardly any flirting, and no kiss scene. Maybe if Diane gave Wolf a few winks or kiss blowing during her time as The Crimson Paw, or the gang teasing Wolf about his obvious crush on the vixens. I just wish there was a lot more done between these two. Come on, it was directed by a Frenchman - where's the romance?!
Yay! Can't wait to see it. I'm never putting myself through a category 1 kid's movie ever again. Never mind it costing $65+ for my family of 5 to go and watch it. So glad this is one for the adults too. The books are fun as well. Thanks for ur review!
@@BrandoCritic you made some important points about the contradictions. like Now its an animation so a few things can be accepted. the same thing cannot probably escape our notice in a live action. But the important thing is those liberties are used well. They are used to further the story. So it works But yes its an animated world where anything goes its easier to use the ideas.
Just watched this today Brandon! And I loved it! Thank you so much for sending this movie to me and adding it to my collection! I can't wait to show this to my two nephews on our next family movie night! 😃
You can tell when a reviewer is younger because the concept of humans , animals, and humanoid animals are so brain freezing to them when cartoons from the 80s and before were just like that and nobody ever thought there needed to be a scientific explanation of why. It just was. When cartoons were cartoons.
About the guinea pig... Spoilers If you've read the books from which this movie is adapted from, Marmalade (the walking talking guinea pig) is actually revealed to be an alien at one point.
@@BrandoCritic actually, I don't know 😂 in the books, they were all walking talking animals along side pet animals. I'm curious why they decided to add in humans for the movie adaptation. I admit that at first I was bothered about it, but it grew on me.
I hope Bad Guys does well at the box office and not fall into the underrated movie category. I haven't laughed that much in an animated film since Megamind. As for the anthromorphic characters interacting with normal humans and animals, it doesn't bother me at all. I actually saw the anthromorphs as humans. If anything, their animal characteristics help define who they are. For instance, the tarantula is the computer genius and it helps that she has 8 legs so she can type 4x faster than anyone. (Or maybe just 6; the other two legs are for standing.) Also, the audience can easily distinguish the anthromorphs from the regular animals by the clothes. The kitten doesn't wear clothes so it's a pet and not expected to speak. I agree that the last third part of the movie drags on a bit, but it's not redundant and important for the resolution of two main issues.
7:36 Well, I actually don't think the humans understand them as well. In the first six minutes of the movie, where we meet Misty/Chief Luggins and are in her office, we can see pictures of all the bad guys on the wall. On one of the pictures, however, there is a photo of a realistic piranha with drawn on legs, implying that there are real piranhas in this world. I think the chief is secretly trying to understand them and how they can communicate and walk. But hey! That's *just a theory!! A FILM THEORY*
Great Review Man, I really liked this movie and was so surprised with how good the character of Diane Foxington was. She's honestly one of the best DreamWorks characters ever created. The movie also felt a bit like Over the Hedge and Madagascar in terms of the characters, character designs, dialogue and humor but it was like an old school DreamWorks movie and it was a ton of fun. I'm actually seeing it again tonight. I really enjoyed it.
I remember watching Over The Hedge... but it didn't stick with me. Must have been one of those many "watch in the back of the mini van" type of movies haha
@@BrandoCritic Over the Hedge is better than people give it credit for. It's an absurdist masterpiece, like The Bad Guys. People weren't ready for it when it came out and it faded into obscurity. I hope that doesn't happen with this movie.
I have one word to say for this movie. Superb. When a movie truly impresses you. The Bad Guys uses an original premise to tell a familiar story of friendship and goodness along with the humor and fun you should have in a animation movie. I give it a 8.5. Original characters, well placed humor, and a story that not only amuses you but also surprises and entertains you with its sharpness plot twists and emotions. A must watch. 65 dollars for 5 is worth the money for this movie. The story is good, the animation and voice cast are absolutely perfect. Not overdoing or exaggerating anything but bringing genuineness to the narrative. The best movie of 2022 for me. This proves that while Disney maybe the Godfather of animation DreamWorks is The Big Lebowski. Shrek, Kung Fun Panda and now this. They come up with something unique, original and entertaining.
I didn’t watch this while it was in theaters because it didn’t look like my cup of time but you may have me sold. I might pick it up when it comes to Physical Media. Do you know if it’s streaming anywhere?
Love the review man it was great got me excited to see this movie an all the stuff that happens in it also what you said about friends changing is true I went through it myself as well an can vouch for it completely but all in all I believe this movie is going to deliver a good message

I don’t think I’ve seen such a good quality video that lacks likes. That’s disappointing, you deserve more, especially with all the effort you put in!
