i have literally spent hours on the internet in general and on youtube sweating on this problem. i even "spoke" many times to chat gpt, ana all to no avail! but then i found your very precise and excellent tutored video and after 5 minutes i was able to reach my linux laptop... many many thanks!
This video provides clear and concise information. However, a challenge I am encountering an issue to accessing SAMBA from Windows clients (tried from few Windows 10 machines). Despite enabling SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support on Windows, the issue persists. Every attempt to access results in the error message 'Windows cannot access \SAMBA SERVER.' I would appreciate any insights or guidance on resolving this matter. Thank you.
Thank you for your video. The "cp" command (copy command) throws a "cp: stat error" in my Ubuntu 22.04 Server. It happens when I try to copy a file from my "samba sharefolder" (owned by my "sambauser" user) to a different folder named "mymusic" which is owned by a different user named "myselfuser". What new rule can I add to my Samba SMB.conf file which will prevent Samba from blocking any file copying from my "samba sharefolder" to "mymusic" folder performed by "myselfuser"? Or can this be fixed by group reassignments?
@@albertweterings828 these video creators just work for views , if someone has Issues they never respond I think I found solution when bro you edit config file under wor group add this force user = ur created user :) hope this helps you brother
thanks!! It worked perfectly. Now how can I make the shared folder accesible for "everyone" as in not demanding and user-pass to acces (but only if they're connected on the same red)
I installed Samba Server and had used it to stream Video files from the shared_folder with no problem. However, after installing NextCloud, I'm not able to access the shared_folder anymore. Is there any way around this?
I tried all steps from starting till end, but cannot make it work. For me on windows it says "Windows cannot access \\". I am using a test server from DigitalOcean. I installed Nginx on the server and easily I can access via IP. But the samba access is not working. Can anyone help?
same here. Followed all the steps, almost desperately trying to set up a share all weekend, but no cigar. "no permission to acces." Note: my share dir (music) on a plugable USB HDD, something to do with that? But I can see the share, but no access permission...
2:06 Could you explain this bit for me. So after adding the commands, the owner and group are moved from root to the Samba user? And what exactly are the 'owner' and 'group'? I've been stuck on setting up a server but when I found your video and applied the commands I was able to get things going. I'm just confused why this component, which is crucial for the file sharing to work, is needed and what exactly does it do. Im sorry for the dumb questions, I'm a complete novice at this.
I am also learning just like you, but what I understand is that is 'needed' so when you try and look at the shared_folder on windows that you can use the login credentials of sambauser to go into the shared_folder. Or else you would have to use your root login (?)
Great tutorial, very simple but directly to the point, thank you. I have 2 questions: 1. If all members are in a group "the_group", so the directory ownership is root:the_group? 2. When login via windows, the password is Ubuntu passwd or Samba smbpasswd?
Cool video but it is not working for me. :( I've made every single steps as in the video but i cannot login as sambauser into this folder from my Win10 PC. I'm using Ubuntu 22.10 on my 64bit RaspberryPI4 machine. Anybody can help me? Maybe the author? :DD
a bit too fast and loose about the system environments. Says nothing about whether the Ubuntu side is running in a virtual machine or a different machine. Also the magic ip address in file explorer needs to be explained
hello! i want to know how to do this setup in a wireless environment since my project deals with wireless connectivity. could you help me out? thanks! edit: i'm a college student doing my thesis btw 😅
Thats why people do not use linux. Iam pretty sure nobody has an explanation why is it so complicated to install this shit. It should create users, ask simple wuestions and install itself. But no no, the guys who develope it think it works great. It is like if you want to buy a car but all you get is the parts and some instructions.
news flash: before guis this is how every computer was... actually worse then this. Linux is brain dead easy to learn and understand. There is so many ways to bake a pie, trillions of ways to setup samba. Its not overcomplicated, there is auto installers out there aswell.
Worked perfectly 😊 thank you so much for all the content you upload!
That's great to hear :-) Thanks for the feedback!
I'm glad that I have found this channel. No extra talk, precise step-by-step explanation. You earned a sub today.
Thank you for the sub and your kind words Arnab! I'm happy to create a clear and concise content. 👍
Thanks incredible walkthrough so simple! Only one that's worked, my sanity saved.

Awesome video dude, all of the other tutorials I watched either didn't work or used some roundabout method, yours was precise and easy!

"inherit permissions". Thank you for watching Roberto

Thank you very much. Plz setup Domain Controller and Active Directory on the server
I connect to the drive but then it just tells me it can't find that name when opening in windows 11
When I access SMB from file explorer he asks me about Credentials!
Why anonymous login not working? Is there a special/specific/different procedure?
Anonymous login isn't supported on Windows

It should work the same way for a wireless network. It only has to do with your IP, if you use either cable or Wi-Fi.
