You are a lifesaver! I have spent hours and hours trying to fix my samba share after the recent windows update broke it. Thank you!

This is absolutely brilliant and so well explained. I've been searching for days on how to share Folders on my Linux Mint Computer. Unlike Ubuntu, Linux Mint doesn't have a GUI for Network Share. Not sure why that is but. You clearly explained how using Samba from the terminal makes it easy to implement and modify. Thank you so very much.

This is incredibly well done. I can't tell you how many videos I've watched and they were either moving so quickly or lacked the fact that Windows 10 just doesn't seem to easily access a samba shared folder on Ubuntu. While the folders would show up in Windows they didn't offer permissions to access them.
But I was using the GUI function in Ubuntu and it just did not work for me. So since I have limited knowledge of Linux I'm going to just going to delete everything and reinstall Ubuntu yet again because I'm sure I messed it up just trying things I didn't know. But I'm so grateful for you sharing your knowledge. I do finally understand the command lines that you very meticulously demonstrated here.
If everything work I'll post my findings. And gratefully thankful.
Thank you so very much. 👍😊

4:13 It's worth pointing out that an SMB user can only be added if it's an existing UNIX user. use "sudo adduser " to add the UNIX user and then then it can be added to the list of SMB users using "sudo smbpasswrd -a "

    Don't you have to have a "/" before "home/username/folder"?
    like this "/home/username/folder"

Yes - very good. Only caveat is in Windows I have to move files out of PF, edit them and copy them back. And it's not possible to create anything inside a folder created in PF. However the shown solution is good enough for me so thanks for the video.

good stuff here, i got stuck creating the samba user and password because it sounded like i could use any name I wanted fro the samba profile with the Sudo smbpasswd -a [username]. I kept using different names from my Linux acct name and it kept failing.
So for example: bob@prime-hp:~$ sudo smbpasswd -a fred failed but--- bob@prime-hp:~$ sudo smbpasswd -a bob is what worked
I thought I had tried using the bob@prime-hp:~$ sudo smbpasswd -a bob name and it had failed but after some research and help I finally figured out that i was correct and had to use the same samba user name as my Linux acct which was a , well duh moment , i must have fat fingered it and just assumed there was something bigger wrong, which it wasn't, anyway, once they matched everything else fell into place, Thank you!

Excellent video! I'm having problems with a folder that is in a sata HDD and already exists (/media/useName/share). That folder was previously created on a Windows 10. I follow the steps here and it shows in the network, but I can't access it from Windows 11. From my android phone I have no problem acessing it. Weird.
Edit: I was able to enter the folder from a Win 10, from the "This PC -> Add a Network Location->..." way. I tried this on the aforementioned Win 11 with no success. Sad.
Edit2: solved! with this youtube video: xN6K8hSxcG8
